I don't think anyone has stopped Pat Utomi from contesting for presidency. I'm ready to vote for him. You can only wish he becomes president but wishes don't make people become president. Pat Utomi should join a political party, vie for presidency and campaign. It is left for people to decide. It is as simple as that.

Cost of materials is outrageous.

Imagine 20KVA FG Wilson generator that cost 3.2 million a year ago is now over 5 million naira.

Imagine 2HP Panasonic Ionizer AC that cost 130,000 a year ago now cost 280,000+

Imagine 16mm I bought 113,000 per ton a year ago is now over 300,000

Imagine a bag of cement I bought 2,050 Naira a year ago now sells for 2,500 - 2650 Naira now

Cost of wires/cables is 40% higher than it was a year ago.

The list is endless. The cost of building materials is through the roof. Many people have decided to abandon large projects going on.

There was an architect I met on instagram and I askedhim to give me a quote last year October and he told me he doesn't take over projects other people started. This is a UK/Nigeria base architect. To my surprise, I woke up few days ago and boom I saw his email asking me if the job was still available.

I asked him what happened again since he told me he wasn't going to do my work because other people started it. He said the recession is biting construction industry very hard. Those who are building now must be armed with Dasuki loot or have access to U.S Dollars.

Honorary Degree? That is not a qualification. He didn't do any academic work to earn that. Many illiterates have honorary degrees too. That still won't make them graduates. Even Nigerian Supreme Court dismissed one politician few years ago for claiming to have a degree when what he has was actually honorary degree.

Was Obj nominated to spite Ekweme in 1999? I followed that convention in Jos. Rimi, Nwobodo, Asiodu, Tonye Graham Douglas, Ekweme were there. Ekweme came distance second.

May be it is only me, but when I walk into people's homes, I do a quick visual assessment of the finishing in their house. I have been impressed by what I saw mostly in Abuja.

In fact, I feel like hitting my head on the wall sometimes when I see interior finishing of 50-60M Naira duplexes here. I see them here everyday and shake my head everyday. Mostly the exterior is between 4-6/10 and interior 1-3/10. I was generous with those scores.

I had to disengage some people from my site two weeks ago as rubbish was going on there. They were doing rubbish and wasting money and materials. They lack supervision. I couldn't let them continue because I have tiles and finishing materials worth 9 million+ I can't let them bastardize.

I've been building same house for four years and I keep changing Nairalander like oil change. Too many incompetents on this forum. They are only into making money and not delivering quality work. Sometimes I keep blaming myself why I dare build in Nigeria. These Nigerians can frustrate you. They like to argue certain things can't be done because "this is Nigeria and not America sir". They are not willing to do things differently. Look at everywhere with boring home designs. SMH.

Do what I did. I shipped all kinds of equipment for my hobby to Nigeria:
Makita rotary saw(with 12 kinds of blades), sawzall, drill bits, impact wrench, earth auger, plate compactor, electric 15g nail gun, spray kit, heat gun, pallet jacks 2.5T, orbit sanders, angle grinder, just to mention a few.

I like the way skilled Mexicans make construction neat and appealing. Buy the equipment and machines and guide Nigerian artisans if you want good end results else be ready for a heart break.
I am an A hole when it comes to details. If I am paying for it, it better be good.

Your last sentence describes me. I'm the don of detail. When I emphasize attention to details to all these Nigerians, they nod and say okay but they still go ahead and do sh1t. I like smooth, straight and well paved wall or wood but it is hard to get such with our artisans. Nigerian artisan just want to rush and deliver the job swiftly without attention to detail. If I should show some horrible burglaries just delivered to my site, you all won't believe it. It is like throwing money away.

No doubt PDP was disastrous party to Nigeria. PDP led federal government could have turned Nigeria to rival UAE or top 15 countires in the world with the amount of revenue generated between 1999 and 2015 but all PDP did was to loot and shared the money amongst the few. Many PDP faithful left with fat bank accounts. "Thousandnaires" became billionaires overnight in PDP.

Never in our lives should we ever have a party like hopeless PDP again. Amen.

Has APC faired better? The answer is no. APC founders did have good plan but that inept, old, cunny, out of touch, bigotted and uneducated Buhari, his nephew and cousins have hijacked APC and put it on the path of PDP old way.
