sheubaba2013:
IKERE GORGE DAM, A BLESSING TO OUR GENERATION.

Ikere is a town located in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State Nigeria.
It is about 28km North East Iseyin. The town is a home to the popular Ikere Gorge Dam. It is located on the Ogun river with a reservoir capacity of about 690 million m3.

I have visited the Ikere Gorge Dam on more than three occasions, the last time I visited the Dam was 12th of August, 2019 which is the second day of Eid Al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice).
The trip was led by the Hon. President of Iseyin Youth Development Group (IYDG) in person of Hon. Babajide Oniyo, Hon. Shina Peller, my humble self Sakariyau Tijani Sheu (Sheubaba) and the entire members of IYDG.
The theme of this year program was "Convergence season 3/ Developmental Tour". We paid a visit to the Ado Awaye Iyake suspended lake and later proceeded to Ikere George Dam both in Iseyin LGA.
Iseyin Youth Development Group (IYDG) aim is the way forward for the development of Iseyin, Oke Ogun and the entire Nigeria at large, therefore Ikere George Dam must not be abandoned. Charity begins at home.

A Dam is a barrier that stops or restrict the flow of water or underground stream. -Wikipedia
Some Dams are constructed to change the direction of river water flow into channel, canal, pipeline etc.

George is a narrow valley between hills or mountains typically with steep rocky walls and a stream running through it.
The term is obtained from the French word "Gorge" which means throat or neck. A George is often smaller than Canyon, although both can be used to describe deep, narrow valleys with a stream or river running along their base.

Ikere Gorge Dam has been abandoned for so long. It is the second largest Dam in Nigeria, but it has been a long forgotten dream.
The Ikere Gorge Dam was first established by the Military regim of Ex President Olusegun Obasanjo and it was set up in 1983 by the then administration of Alhaji Shehu Shagari.
Ikere Gorge Dam was initially planned to generate 6 Megawatts of Electricity.

Furthermore, Dam can also supply water for Iseyin, Iganna, Okeho, Lagos etc.
Among the the plans was also for Irrigation purpose of about 12,000 hectares of land. According to findings, some equipments has been purchased as at then by the Government, they has been kept at the site for the Hydro Power component of the Dam and has not yet been installed.
According to experts the project will take up to 3 to 4 months to be completed.

Ikere Gorge Dam can be developed for aquaculture, I even bought some fishes on our way back from the site visitation. It can create over 1,500 jobs for the youths, production capacity of over one million tonnes of fish annually if fully utilized.

There is no mobile network in the area, we are unable to make or receive calls throughout the visitation.

The 35km access road that lead to the Dam is appalling, the road need to be fixed for easy access.

Conclusively, we the Iseyin Youth Development Group (IYDG) on my humble behalf are calling on the Federal Government of Nigeria to put the Ikere Gorge Dam in good shape for the purpose of Hydro power generation, Irrigation, aquaculture etc.
At the other hand the government should also harness the tourism potential of the Ado-Awaye Iyake suspended lake which is the second suspended lake in the world after the Colorado suspended lake in the USA.
"I am convinced that Nigeria would have been a more highly developed country without the oil. I wished we had never smelled the fumes of petroleum" -Prof Wole Soyinka.
God bless Iseyin, God bless Nigeria.

Ikere Gorge Dam! The second largest Dam in Nigeria.
Ikere Gorge Dam! The time is now.
Ikere Gorge Dam! No more further delay
Ikere Gorge Dam! The untapped blessing
Ikere Gorge Dam! A blessing to our generation
Ikere Gorge Dam! A gift from God Almighty

Sports / Re: Seedorf Sacked By Cameroon After AFCON Exit (photos) by fbabs(m): 6:33pm On Jul 17, 2019
ogbonti:

The most successful Coach in Nigerian history, Clemence Westerhoff was hired in August 1989, and his very first game for Nigeria hapened like 6 days later, it was a World Cup qualifier game against the Indomptable Lions of Cameroun at Stade Omnisport in Yaounde. That was an emotional match for Nigeria as SAM OKWARAJI died in the previous game against the Palanca Negras of ANGOLA in Lagos 2 weeks prior. We lost the game via a header by Francois Omam Biyick. Nigeria needed just a DRAW in Cameroun to appear at ITALIA'90 WORLD CUP - so everyone was angry at the NFA, and naturally most Nigerians who thought Westerhoff is a magician - wanted Westerhoff fired and the NFA dissolved, bla bla bla.. but the then Chief of General Staff, Vice Admiral Augustus Aikhomu made a statement that "while he is government, WESTERHOFF is going no where" WESTERHOFF was not fired.

He overhauled the team by offloading reliables like Ndubuisi Okosieme, Austin Igbinabaro, Mike Odu, Mike Obiku, Defence Minister Yisa Sofoluwe, Sunday Eboigbe, Bright Omokaro, Henry Nwosu, Humphrey Edobor,Ademola Adeshina, Waidi Akanni, and a host of others. (Do not forget these were the players that won silver at AFCON MAROC 1988) He took a new team to Algiers 1990 AFCON, we suffered the biggest humiliation in African football history, I remember how Algerian Desert Warriors team of Rabah Madjer, Menad Djamel and the small 18 year old Raheem overran Nigeria 5-1 in the opening game...Amokachi was just 17 and he was running around like a headless chicken in that game.... but we know he will grow someday, I remember Friday Elaihor, Herbert Anijekwu, Isaac Semitoje, Ayo Ogunlana, Toyin Ayinla, Uche Okechukwu, Moses Kpakor, Late Thompson Oliha, Emma Okocha (the real Jay Jay Okocha), Wasiu Ipaye, Rasheed Yekini and a host of others. Only Yekini was from the 1988 squad, the rest were kinda new - We made it to the finals, but LOST to the same Algeria via a single goal by Cherif Oudjani -WESTERHOFF was not FIRED. In 1992 at AFCON SENEGAL, we lost semi finals to Ghana, and won 3rd place game against Cameroun, WESTERHOFF WAS NOT FIRED- then came 1994. more than half of those boys in 1990 and some new discoveries now became the most potent attack in AFRICA and indeed the world. we now scored at will, won almost any game we played, killed teams 4-1, 7-1, 6-0 across AFRICA.

WE QUALIFIED first time for the world cup, won AFCON in 1994, won AFRO-ASIAN CUP in 1995, Won Olympics gold - until ABACHA halted the team in 1996 because of his rift with Nelson Mandela

what is the reason for this lengthy analysis? I want to state that most FOOTBALL SUCCESS STORY DOES NOT COME OVERNIGHT - you have to build on failure to become a future champion. If SEEDORF can get a team like Benin Republic who will be patient with him for 4 years, using his influence and contacts over EUROPE to groom the team, MARK this page, the Benin Republic that I saw in this AFCON will beat this same Cameroun that sacked Seedorf, on their way to win the AFCON!!!!

ROHR should not be fired, let us learn from the WESTERHOFF story!!!!!

You are a living legend, NL kids should come and learn

Thanks for your contribution(s).

Hope you got the job?

let me quickly say this that from most girls point of view AMBITION = MONEY,so if you have not made enough money in life you are not ambitious enough lol. If you are telling her not to ever trust the love of a broke man, then I guess you are telling her it is only the rich that are entitled to love, meaning real love = enough money. Let me quickly point this out op you can never get 100% from any man, go get yourself a rich dude and you be fool to think you are the only one he is fuvking, and you cry foul when he denies you of the attention and affection u currently getting fpr free ,no rich dude is vacant, yes you heard me right NO rich dude is vacant except you are satisfied being a side chic cos he has money cos from your write up that's your definition of being ambitious... Is your lots that pushes guyz to cyber crime and likes just cos he wants to make you feel good about him.

Op thinks he is doing the guy a favour by dating him, I hate that with pasion, just hate when guyz worship women it irritates me, wealth is built and doesn't fall on you overnight and what do you know u r just 23 and you've not seen life dear, I pray you don't learn the hard way in the hands of your so called " ambitious " guyz , op seriously you don't love him you are only drawn to him cos of the attention & affection he showers on you..plz and plz let that guy go you don't deserve he's undying love..some girl somewhere will treat him right. This is why I have always told those so called nice guyz that babes don't like niceness they want hardness from guyz but they won't listen.

Op check it, from your write up, especially in the area of not calling him for almost a week and other stuff u wrote there I smell pride..I am not saying you shd get married now cos I think u definitely young cos to me from 26 years downwards are babies and can't reason real life reasoning tell you guy to get himself a more advanced mature woman ( master degree not withstanding).

@paxie be careful with life cos when the chips are down it will be a different ball game altogether, am talking from depth of knowledge, understanding and experience.
