From the beginning he is a liar and the father of ALL lies. The father of apc the devil is a liar and when he lied that's his nature. Lying had become the Foundation in which apc is build up on. Very sorry for nigeria opposition. |
Facebook Share Twitter Share His brief grasp of government between 1984 and 1985 was relatively unimpressive. He did not salvage Nigeria as promised. His government’s trade policy hinged on counter trade was largely crude. Even the issue of discipline where he is today largely celebrated was punctured with the exposure of the contradictory action of his number two who breached the regime’s order barring under-aged from going for hajj. But General Muhammadu Buhari still remains a political phenomenon, albeit a largely underachieving one. In his Supreme Military Council, SMC, he was circumscribed by largely ambitious military politicians. It was as such not surprising that his hard stance on issues turned into good currency for his rivals to make mincemeat of him and achieve their own life long political ambitions. Gen. Buhari Indeed, Buhari, as military head of state, ruled as if there was no tomorrow. Now, at the twilight of his public life, The General, as he is largely celebrated by fans across the north, is obviously desperate to salvage a nation he claims is in the throes of maladministration. After three consecutive defeats in the hands of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Buhari had suggested that he would leave the scene after the 2011 presidential elections. Before the suggestion could take root, the general quickly reversed himself putting himself again in reckoning in the nation’s political chess game. That reversal has been followed with such snide remarks as to whether he must be president? Indeed, not a few are worried by the seemingly naïve political gesticulations of Buhari. That is despite the several accounts of those who have dealt with him anddescribe him as a good man and a religious moderate. However, such unbiased comments have largely been overshadowed by the political faux pas of the general and the machinations of the Obasanjo-Atiku Campaign Organisation ahead of the 2003 election. The Obasanjo campaign almost successfully recast Buhari as a religious extremist unworthy of leading a multi-religious and multi-cultural nation as Nigeria. Different types of mud were indeed slung on him with the active collaboration of some sections of the media before that election. However, of all the mud on him, only the garb of religious extremism really stuck. Attempts to soil his image using his stewardship of the Petroleum (Special) Task Fund, PTF were largely unsuccessful and almost bounced back at the instigators in a way that some prayer warriors would say ‘back to sender.’ Untimely death When the Obasanjo administration reportedly threatened to probe the activities of the PTF under Buhari, it, by some accounts precipitated the untimely death of Buhari’s Man Friday, who he had reportedly delegated most of the task of the PTF. But beside that casualty, the probe report, which indicted the successor administration at the PTF appointed by President Obasanjo largely exonerated Buhari. For a man like Buhari, who has held some of the most politically exposed jobs in the country, including military governor of the defunct Northeast State, minister of petroleum and chairman of PTF, it is remarkable that Buhari has not been once indicted for any act of corruption. Those who have known him say that he has indeed been faithful almost to the kobo. It is this rare attribute of integrity that has largely won Buhari acclaim from Nigeria’s long suffering masses and the disdain of the political elite, who would panic at the thought of enrobing him with political power. Across the North and South, the disdain for Buhari from the political elite is almost unanimous. Some in that class pretended only for a brief period to believe in Buhari but once they got political power in his name, they immediately deserted the general. Today, General Buhari at the twilight of his long period of political exposure is faced with the crucial choice of abiding with the dogma of his ways which have not helped, or bending to achieve the revolution the masses desire. Recently, he has been flocking with those he once condemned, those that betrayed him in his former party and even partnering with the preacher who was famously quoted as saying that “That tall man” is not the answer to our needs. Buhari is indeed turning into a politician, but he fearfully could make a mess of it! |
22 REASONS WHY BUHARI CAN NEVER RULE NIGERIA Originally By: Kekere ekun and Co. In my books, Buhari is a pretentious anti-corruption fighter. The trajectory of a man's journey in public life matters. For the follwoing reasons I can not vote for Buhari 1. He is an oligarch who does not believe in equality before the law. The way he jailed Lateef Jakande, Jim Nwobodo, Ambrose Ali, Pa Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Ayo Ojewumi on cases that had no foundation and allowed Awwal Ibrahim, the then Niger State governor, who was arrested in Heathrow Airport in London with 14 million pounds sterling and several millions of Niara and dollars to be under house arrest is my evidence. He also allowed Shehu Kangiwa, Sokoto State Governor who conducted and supervised the famous Bakolori Massacre of poor peasant farmers whose land were appropriated without compesation to remain under house arrest. 1(a) Ayo Ojewumi became blind as a result of his imprisonment over false charges and died shortly after. 1 (b) Prof. Ambrose Alli also became blind as a result of this false imprisonment. When he died, he had only one undeveloped plot of land to his name. 1© Pa Adekule Ajasin was never the same after his eventual release and remained sickly for the rest of his life. Whe he died, he never had any property anywhere in the world except the one he had built from his sweat as long term teacher and school principal in Owo township. 2. He put in place a retroactive law that killed three men, innocent men in my book, by public execution. He left untouched an alleged well known drug baron in Ibrahim Babangida who later overthrew his government. 3. He jailed Ndukar Irabor and Tunde Thompson of the Guardian on stories that were factually true under Decree 4. He had told the Nigerian journalists then that it did not matter whether the story reported was true or not, if his regime did not like it, the writer would go to jail. 4. He supervised the smuggling of 53 suitcases filled with cash througth the MMA against the protests of General Tunde Idiagbon and ironically, Abubakar Atiku, the then Director General of the Customs who later became the Vice President and a compromised politician himself. This smuggling of the suit cases were supervised by his ADC, Col. Mustapha Jokolo. 5. He jailed Fela Anikulapo -Kuti on trumped up charges under emergency law which prompted the sentencing judge to confess that he was ordered to do so and apologised to the late musician. It was Buhari's administration that said it has "decided to deal with this Fela problem once and for all." 6. He convinced all the northern political leaders against allowing the National Identity Card program because according to him, this would unravel the myth of Northern population majority 7. He is an Islamic fundamentalist, the Bin Laden of Nigeria, who told his northern followers never to vote for anyone who was not a muslim. 8. He is a coup plotter. 9. He has never been able to account to Nigerians what he did with the 20 billion Naira of the Petroleum Trust Fund of which he was the chairman under Sani Abacha. 9(a) He has not been able to point to any project that he prosecuted outside the Northern Nigeria with the so-caled trust fund. 10. He was in full support of all the atrocities of Sani Abacha against the Nigerian people. There is no single record of his criticism of Sani Abacha during those dark days when Nigeria was on precipice. It shows that he is a patriot of convenience and as such unfit to lead the country. 11. Buhari, as part of his tribalistic practices placed President Shagari under house arrest inside a palatia mansion in Ikoyi while he locked up Shagari's Vice, Alex Ekwueme in Kirikiri Prison. Shagari is Hausa/Fulani like him while Alex Ekwueme is an Igboman. 12. Ikemba Emeka Ojukwu, another Igboman who returned from 13years exile just a little over a year then was as well locked up in Kiri Kiri Prison by meanhearted Buhari.Up till today we are not told what was Emeka's offence. 13. Busari Adelakun died of ulcer because Buhari refused him to be taken out of prison for immediate medical attention. The then Governor of Ogun State,Bisi Onabanjo suffered similar fate which we were told led to his untimely death. 14. Buhari ransacked the house of our late sage, Obafemi Awolowo and confisticated his International passport. Which civilized democratic society would elect the likes of Buhari as President, the same individual who overthrew an elected President? Never! 15. Plus Buhari having Sam Mbakwe in jail, went for one of Mbakwe's wives. He established himself again for what he was/is letting Mbakwe receive in jailhouse news of the death of another of Mbakwe's two wives. One (I can't remember his name now; Odenigbo?) also died in jail. 16. Buhari's henchman and sponsor, CPC governorship candidate for Kano State, is Mohammed Abacha, the same person that had/ran a personal killing squad, co ordinated the killing of Kudirat Abiola & attempted to kill Ibru; and also stashed money in underground tanks, all less than 13 years ago, Nigerians have very short selective memory. Shame! 17. Buhari discriminated against persons from other ethnic groups/faiths; and that as PTF Chairman, he employed an overwhelming number of Fulani/Hausa/Moslem people at the detriment of other groups and concentrated PTF projects in the North. If in doubt read El Rufai's testimony where he wrote about Katsina boys who used the money they made at PTF to bankroll Yar'Adua's election in 1999. 18. Buhari is unforgiven. When he "took over" by coup in 1983, even remembered an article written a very very long time ago by Bisi Onabanjo ('The Mallams are coming') and a later one in which Onabanjo wrote that people should watch out for that "gangly officer from the north" after Buhari gave a no holds barred speech at some Army function where he was reported to be very openly pro Fulani and pro Islam to the exclusive of all else and also talked about termination of democratic rule. For that, Onabanjo got one of the harshest jail terms and treatments. 19. Buhari intolerance is worse than Obasanjo's. When he was adopted as the ANPP's candidate on the night of the party's Primaries without prior warning to the other candidates and a few of them protested, Buhari got up and made a speech that those people must be disciplined. I subsequently saw him on BBC's "hard talk" and he frightened me and the interviewer with his archaic and fundamentalist intolerant views. His understanding and articulation is very much in doubt. 20. The evil genius, IBB and his crew similarly ran rings around Buhari. On the 10th anniversary of Abacha's demise, Buhari said that Abacha stole nothing from Nigeria! Despite millions of Dollars recovered from banks around the world and the Abacha family signing a formal agreement to return over $1 billion dollars, Buhari still said that Abacha's stealing remains an unproved allegation!!!! Why? Because Abacha set Buhari up like an emperor and let him use oil money from the Niger Delta to develop the North without supervision or questions. 21. Buhari snubbed the same Nigerians he now wants their votes by refusing to appear before Justice Oputa Truth and Reconciliation Panel. Despite the fact that Buhari knew how inportant reconciliation is to the stability of democracy. Buhari has never apologised at anytime. 22. Buhari executed Lawal Ojuolape (30), Bernard Ogedengbe (29) and Bartholomew Owoh (26). To put it quite plainly, one of those three – Ogedengbe - was executed for a crime that did not carry a capital forfeit at the time it was committed. and At the time Ogedengbe committed the crime it did not carry that punishment. If we must live as civilised citizens we must go by the rules. Article 11.2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reads: "No one shall be held guilty of any penal offence on account of any act or omission WHICH DID NOT CONSTITUTE A PENAL OFFENCE, under national or international law at the time when it was committed. NOR SHALL A HEAVIER PUNISHMENT BE IMPOSED THAN THE ONE THAT WAS APPLICABLE AT THE TIME THE PENAL OFFENCE WAS COMMITTED. Killing people with retroactive laws is not the civilised thing to do - and for as long as we will have people who refuse to see the truth only because their heroes are inching to rule when they have not purged themselves we will continue to wallow in misery. If Nigerians reward dangerous, insensitive, dishonest, mean, cruel, partial, egoistic, religious, fundamendalist, conscienceless human being like MOHAMMADU BUHARI with the presidency of Nigeria with his kind of track record, then why do we still wonder why Nigeria has not and will not make it? I can not in good conscience support Buhari's candidacy on the above grounds. I wish we have intelligent people who know what democracy means. I wish we have civilized minds. However, I am 100 percent sure that Buhari will never again rule Nigeria. For the good of Nigeria, vote any other candidate, but SAY NO TO BUHARI! |
Nigerians, always expecting others to come solve their problems. Sometimes you imagine what some are made of. Focus on the message and not the messenger. When does it became a crime to say what somebody did with proof? If it is then Tinibu should do what he think is right for him rather than raining insult on the innocent young man. In all this what are we encouraging. |
Wonderful people with beautiful comments but it should have been better if we start it from our locals where the government is closer to us I think nigeria would have been a better place.so it from your word councelor rather than raining insult on the president. |
ILORIN-Former Head of State and presidential aspirant under the banner of All Progressives Congress(APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has explained that, his intention to take another slot at the nation’s presidency come 2015 despite his old age was effectively tackle the problem of insecurity and also prudently manage the nation’s resources to the best advantage of the poor and the rich. He therefore called on the people of the country to join hands with the APC so as to bring new change into the economic and political development of the country come 2015. Gen. Buhari disclosed this in Ilorin in an interview with journalists yesterday shortly after he held indoor consultations on his 2015 presidential ambition with the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed at Government House, Ilorin. According to him,”it is disheartening that the nation’s economy is not being properly managed, I have the track record with Nigerians.I will manage the economy and prudently manage our resources to the best advantage of the poor and the rich” Continuing,he said ” I am sure you know what happened and what has been happening. I believe what Nigerians needs now is to be secured and efficiently managed”. On his desire to take the nation’s presidency slot again, Gen. Buhari said, “I contested three times, I lost three times and I ended up in Supreme Court three times”,stressing that,”We thank God the constitution did not limit how many times you can contest once you are eighteen and above.” “I have done it before in a different system and from 1999 till now, I am sure you know what happened and what has been happening. I believe what Nigerians needs now is to be secured and efficiently managed. “This is the APC stand and I will like to use the opportunity through my party, through the system to secure and efficiently manage Nigeria. “Of course, it is not being managed. It is up to the party and it is up to the people”. On the consensus arrangement being planned by the leadership of APC during the forthcoming presidential primary, Gen. Buhari said, “We want a fair playing ground for everybody, let Nigerians be given the impression and let them believe that they do matter”. “All these efforts to salvage them is for them and the country but if there is consensus agreement, it is well and good. It would safe time and resources but if people insist in making sure that all those that wanted to lead should present themselves and let the people decide,m it is all well and good. The system allows it”. On the withdrawal of former governor of Kwara state and senator representing Kwara central senatorial district at the national assembly, Senator Bukola Saraki from APC presidential primary, Gen. Buhari said, “I read it in the newspapers, I didn’t beg him to leave it for me but it is his own decision”. ‘He(Saraki) has been a governor. He knows the politics of the country, his father works extremely hard and virtually established a dynasty voluntarily supported by people of this state. This what the peoples general can so offer and let's hear what Atiku had to say. Former Vice President and contender of the Presidential ticket of the All People’s Congress, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, disclosed yesterday that he would break what he described as “mafias” in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and the power sector, if voted as in the next presidential polls. Addressing journalists in Abuja on his economic agenda, he stated that the mafias in the petroleum industry and the power sector had continued to hold Nigerians to ransom and must be cleared for a genuine progress to be made on the socio-economic development fronts. ATIKU According to the former number-two man, even after the privatization of the successor companies of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, the mafia in that sector has continued to make it impossible for Nigerians to have power supply. His words, “I remember when we were in office, I told my boss, the president. I said, sir, ‘there are two mafias in this country. One: in that time NEPA, (Power holding company of Nigeria, PHCN). The second one is NNPC. Unless you break those mafias, you will never get those sectors working. “ Unfortunately, up till now, we have not been able to break those mafias. So, one you must do is to be prepared to dismantle the mafia in PHCN which up till now has decided not to allow us to have sufficient power and also the mafia in NNPC”. Alh. Atiku said that his government would ensure an inclusive growth in the economic development with a view to allowing ordinary Nigerians benefit from the growth recorded by the nation’s economy in the past years. “The benefits of the economic growth does not trickle down because the government is structured in such a way that wealth remains in the hands of a few”, he said. The aspirant said, “government is serious business and people who don’t know how to run business should not have a business running government”. He promised to grant tax waivers to sectors that create jobs and that in the long run, the economy would benefit more from a government policy that provides incentives for large corporate organizations to expand and employ millions of Nigerians would have jobs and then pat tax to government. His words, “what is the problem if I call Aliko Dangote and say, Aliko, I am going to give you tax waiver but can you give me a million jobs? What’s is wrong with it? Out of those million jobs, of course, they will pay tax. So, why do you say that I don’t have the will? I want to challenge anybody to give me the opportunity and see whether I have the will or not”. Review the federation account and restructure government finances to boost infrastructure development Security On security, Alh. Atiku said he would replace the Security Adviser with a National Security Council and aggressively combat the scourge of Terrorism and Insurgency by increased resources and better co-ordination between the security agencies. He said that he would also improve Civil-military relations and pave the way for the establishment of State Police. According to him, an APC government under him would promote increased devolution of powers to State and Local governments. N/Delta In the Niger Delta, the aspirant outlined several initiatives which he said would be launched to address the security and economic decline and foster socio-economic reintegration of the region. They included: Niger-Delta Continuous Development Agenda; A Niger-Delta Social Awareness program; and A Niger-Delta Reform Agenda. He added that a North-East Comprehensive Economic and Infrastructure reintegration programme would be launched with a North-East Security Master Plan and;North-East Social Reintegration initiative. Agriculture The APC chieftain identified Land Use Act and major hindrance to small scale-farmers’ access to land and would therefore be addressed. He also pledged to offer broad based support structures to farmers and small Agribusinesses ‘ help farmers manage risk and market their output. The politician promised to establish an Agricultural Fund and reinvigorate the Agric Bank of Nigeria to be able to support agricultural production and Bank of Industry for high level value addition. He said there would be reintroduction of previous viable and sustainable agricultural programmes with emphasis of rural infrastructural development, such as National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), FEAP and elements of the DFRI. |

soroptimist:So the assemblage of Timipre Sylva,Tinibu Atiku and the likes that gives you joy abi ? Naija don finish ooooo contact me I 'll unveil who Sylva is briefly to you. |
Thank you didn't say,apc led fed. government will create 20m jobs across Nigeria but states through funding though you fail to mention how the fed. government will fund the states apart from the monthly allocation that had made most states become indolent. APC is saying that, it led federal has nothing to do with job creation but it can only assist the states in job creation through funding. Now whom do we blame for lack of jobs in Nigeria. Most ridiculously by saying adopted from Lagos state Ekiti and Osun state , If i may ask, if really that's true, what were the level of unemployment in those states as at then and what is been so far 0btained via these so called blueprints? Is it really reducing? then why these states had the highest number of job seekers as clearly shown by the immigration tragedy? (Sowi to recall this sad event) If this is real,'the road map' of APC in creating jobs in Nigeria for the teaming youths then its a show of shame for another amature set of clowns that wants take the nation to another stand still. Any individual, people, group, nation etc that tailored its economy on consumption rather than production is doomed to fail. As APC is using Lagos state as yard stick, what's really lagos state, what is Lagos and the other state producing, manufacturing and exporting? Its really a display of another vision less and direction less set of clowns. Think on what to PRODUCE,you 'll create all the jobs you wants to create. What to all the refineries/factories,think on what to do with energy. |
courage54:I think your contributions sound funny because how can you say a country of over 160m may not have the likes of Buhari in the next 50yrs? then there are no beings in the country call Nigeria. I believe you heard when Nigeria honoured a cab driver on how he brought 18m left in his car? Let me emphatically tell you, Buhari is as corrupt as any politician in Nigeria. What happen to the 2.5b usd traced to his account as widely reported, yea he was investigated and came clean remember, Atiku, Obasanjo, Saraki,Sylva even Tinubu too was investigated and came clean. See, you a thousand time better than him. Buhari is not the kind of leader nigeria want,we need articulated leader who will tailor nigeria into production and not on fanaticism. |
Good you said you wants to rescue Nigeria but as a former head of state, as an individual and as former PTF boss what did you do with all this? Gani was never a former head of state nor a former PTF that but Nigerian youth felt his positive impact(in education) as well as many other nigerians contributing their quota but YOU Buhari what have you contributed to your own state and nigeria at that you wants to rescue NIGERIA? Rescue yourself and not NIGERIA. For your "integrity" I will personally write to GEJ when he finally become to make you EFCC boss shekina. |
Austin4lif:The spokesman for the Northern Elders Forum, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, said the North would prove to all those who have betrayed “the cause for their selfish ends” that the region “is now more than ever before, united in the desire to have one of its own as President come 2015. |
I think If any one says football is dead in nigeria because we lost to sudan or didn't qualify then that person must be silly. Ok, we didn't qualify in 2011 but we ahead to win the 2013 edition so how do you atest that. Poland beat the almighty Germany that won the most prestigious trophy in the world with the same class of players. Nigeria will bounce back stronger. |
Is pathetic when people narrowed Nigeria problems to only corruption. For instance a young man killed his dad,who is a SAN,do we still say that too is as a result of corruption? Corruption is not the only issue but is one the many problems of Nigeria. |
Caseless:One thing is sure that Buhari will never be president in this country but if that happen by accident he will never be the man you think to be the reputation most of you are chanting at,when does he build it? is it at this present age? |
Last WEDNESDAY was the 54th Founder’s Day of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the nation’s first indigenious university established a week after the country’s independence IT was thus fitting that the big green coloured anniversary cake prepared by the university was decorated to also capture Nigeria’s 54th independence anniversary that was marked a week earlier. However, Founder’s Day events in campuses are also opportunities by universities to sound off statesmen on contemporary issues. For UNN, the 54th Founder’s Day was an opportunity to hear from one of its most popular alumni, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the deputy president of the Senate and concurrently, speaker of the ECOWAS parliament. For Senator Ekweremadu who graduated from the University’s law programme more than twenty five years ago and subsequently taught constitutional law in the school, it was a sort of homecoming. Not much apparently would have changed in the eyes of the senator especially given the seeming failure of the university town to develop despite hosting the country’s first university for more than 54 years. The venue of the lecture was the Princess Alexandra Hall, and dignitaries from far and near were around. Among them were the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, Brig-Gen. Benjamin Alanotu who as commander of the army brigade in Maiduguri apprehended the, Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf, the managing director of AIT News Mr. Imoni Amarere and a surplus of leading lights of the academia led by the UNN vice-chancellor and chief host, Prof. Chukwuma Ozumba. The event had commenced shortly after noon with the academic procession led by the vice-chancellor. Though he was in the procession, Ekweremadu was difficult to point out, reason being that he was clad in the academic robe of the university. Sonorous renditions He was also more difficult to identify because of the unusual attire of an Adams Oshiomhole like khaki suit he wore. He was to later explain that he donned the attire of a comrade essentially because of the revolutionary ideas he had prepared to propound in the lecture. Following prayers, a welcome address by the vice-chancellor and ceremonies interspersed with sonorous renditions by the university choir, Ekweremadu was called on to deliver his address. His lecture was titled “Key Governance Issues in Nigeria: My Perspectives.” He surely had many perspectives, given his political antecedents. From local government chairman, to chief of staff to the Governor of Enugu State and subsequently, secretary to the state government, senator, and for the past seven years, deputy president of the Senate, Senator Ekweremadu offered revolutionary proposals to ameliorate the malaise in governance in the country. It was to some, an act of class suicide as he proffered radical steps to the structure and synergy in the Nigerian federation. Arguably, the most revolutionary proposal in the about 90 minute lecture was his call for the abrogation of the 36 state structure and the replacement of such with a six geo-political zones federating units. “My take is that we should return to the regional arrangement with the six geopolitical zones as the federating units. This will help us to shrink the size and number of government and increase the volume of resources available to the regions. It will also help the federating units to benefit from the economy of scale, doing mega development projects as we had in the First Republic.” The senator also used the opportunity to reiterate his call for the establishment of multi-level policing saying that recent developments had vindicated him. It was also noted that several stakeholders, notably, northern governors who had in the past opposed him on the issue have recanted on the issue. Corporate entities He said: “My take is that we cannot continue to live in denial. The cost and embarrassment are clear like daylight. And whether we accept it or not, many of our states, communities, and corporate entities are already practicing multilevel policing by using vigilantes, the Sharia police or Hisbah, neighborhood watch, and other assorted arrangements aimed at beefing up security around. My worry, though, is that they are largely illegal, poorly regulated, prone to abuse, and indeed often abused.” “Decentralised or multilevel policing is the order of the day because it enables sub-national entities such as the states, local governments, and communities as well as organisations such as universities to have their own police under strict regulation and supervision. It allows for competition in the provision of security as a way of attracting investment and quality residents. These levels of government and corporate entities package and prioritise the security of lives and property to suit their local challenges and resources. The system is so effective in the United States of America, USA, that the police pays you a compensation if they fail to answer a distress call by being physically present at the scene of distress in eight minutes and something untoward happens thereafter. That way, crimes are averted, and when they occur, because they inevitably do, response is timely and solid, while punishment is quick and certain.” Perhaps in line with his revolutionary zeal, Ekweremadu sought to bring the welfare and issue of the common man to fore as he lamented that the “dominant public sentiment is that leaders show insufficient commitment to the citizens’ welfare and gravely under appreciate the need to use powers to achieve public good and national interest”. “The welfare of citizens should not depend on the goodwill of those in power, but should be the center piece of government policies and programme; hence I consider it obscene and irreligious when those in governance insist that the people role out the drums to celebrate and glorify them for providing them with what they in government were elected to do in the first place”, he added. He insisted that “only an aggressive pursuit of citizens’ welfare can mute the uneasy feelings and agitations percolating in the society about leaders’ insensitivity to citizens’ welfare”. Senator Ekweremadu added: “Those in politics have the binary moral choice to make: to use power for evil or to use it for good; this is an era of immense challenges and the nation needs leaders who use their powers for the good of the nation. The logical and serious way to recapture public trust is by providing honest and effective leadership. Good leadership will assuage citizens discouraged and alienated by what they view as insensitive, corrupt, and ineffective leadership at various levels of government” Before concluding he offered a ray of hope for Nigeria, saying: “There is legitimate optimism about the future of Nigeria, as problems that bothered us seem to be dissipating; hence nothing should alter our mindset, vitiate our commitment, enfeeble our resolve or distract our purpose. We must work together for to make Nigeria a better, more secure, and more prosperous nation”, he urged. Another act of class suicide that many in the senator’s Peoples Democratic Party, PDP would be quick to disown was the proposal for the introduction of proportional representation in the election to parliament. Through that process, smaller political parties would be represented in the legislature based on the total number of votes scored in the election. Following his presentation, the discussants Prof. Sam Egwu, Brig. Gen. Alanotu, Prof. Ben Elo Amucheazi and Mr. Amarere took turns to offer their insights into the issues raised by the senator. They without exception agreed with the deputy Senate president on the proposals he pushed. Brig. Gen. Alanotu was to add the need for the nation to have a data base to capture all persons living in the country saying it was essential in the light of contemporary security needs. Mr. Amarere even while applauding the submissions, however, questioned the capacity of the electoral body to superintend over an election based on proportional representation as he pointed at regular questions pointed at the electoral register. It was the 54th Founder’s Day for the University, but for Ekweremadu and many who were there, the ideas proposed last Wednesday could well be the platform for the foundation of a truly more viable Nigeria. |
This may seems to be a joke to some people but the truth of the story is,without Ideye Emenike can and will not excel in Nigerian football. though most of us are always victims of short memory but, if one can recall, our opening match in agaInst Burkina Faso were coach Keshi featured Musa, moses and Emenike, I think we remembered the play and the result as well but we went ahead to win the most coveted African trophy. So till That anomaly is corrected, people will be wondering what has become of the striker. |

ON Friday, 23rd August, 1985, the military government of Major-General Mohammadu Buhari decided to place me under arrest. My crime was that I wrote, among others, an article entitled: “Counter-trading Nigeria’s Future” in the National Concord, exposing the government’s scam of diverting public funds into private coffers through barter-trade with Brazil. A man by the name of Benson Norman was sent from the State Security Services (SSS) to my office to get me. Not finding me, he left a note that I must present myself unfailingly at the SSS office at 15 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi Lagos the next Monday morning. However, on Sunday, 25th August, 1985, Lateef Aminu came first thing in the morning to my house to inform me that the government of Buhari/Idiagbon had been overthrown. For this reason, I am fond of telling people that God brought about a change of government in Nigeria just because of me. Coup-plotter Under the Buhari/Idiagbon regime, once you ended up at 15 Awolowo Road, you may never be heard of again. Decree Number 2 of 1984 empowered Tunde Idiagbon to arrest and detain anybody indefinitely without trial and without legal reprieve. After Buhari was overthrown, Mohammadu Gambo opened the prison doors of 15 Awolowo Road on public television, revealing people in various stages of UnCloth and malnutrition that had been kept in the dungeons without trial by Buhari’s hound-dogs. As self-imposed Head of State, Buhari had no regard for human rights. Immediately he seized power, he announced that he would “tamper with” the press. Soon, the infamous Decree Number 4 was promulgated which made even the publication of the truth a punishable offence. Under this cover, Buhari jailed innocent journalists, including Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabo. He abolished civil liberties, promulgated retroactive decrees enabling him to kill Nigerians through jungle justice, proscribed civil society organizations and professional groups and exercised “absolute” power. This same Buhari would now have us believe that he has gone through some metamorphosis and has become a democrat. I am sure you will forgive me if people like me don’t believe him. Buhari is not, has never been, and will never be, a democrat. Only in Nigeria would a man with his track record, who came to power through a military coup that illegally overthrew a democratic government, now be acclaimed as a democrat. It is on record that Buhari’s military regime is the only one in Nigeria’s history that failed to promulgate a programme for return to civilian rule. Facts and fiction So what exactly qualifies Buhari as a democrat today? Precious little! There is nothing democratic about forming and joining political parties just in order to be the presidential candidate. Little wonder then that Buhari’s parties have a short shelf-life. Buhari would like to be Nigeria’s head of state once again. He can no longer achieve this through the barrel of a gun. The only route now open to him is through the democratic process. That is the reason he now conveniently fashions himself as a democrat. It is merely a means to an end; no more, no less. Buhari’s reputation as an anti-corruption crusader is also a myth. As head of state, he did not make any dent in Nigerian corruption. All we got was a cosmetic “war against indiscipline.” The counter-trade scam happened under his watch. Rather than deal with it, he sent his hound-dogs after nonentities like me who dared to expose it. That scam was no different, in scope and scale, from the petroleum subsidy and other corruption scandals that have since plagued Nigeria. The Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) that Buhari headed under Abacha was also a citadel of corruption. While Buhari himself might not have enriched himself, his cronies and those who worked under him did so handsomely. |
donphilopus:I think you still got it wrong, the Ekiti and Osun states you mentioned, how many of Gej opponents were killed? More importantly pdp lost out in Osun state, get facts before you post. |
Behind President Jonathan – Sen Sekibo By Amadi Gilbert Sen George Thompson Sekibo (CON), Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District in the National Assembly has said he and the Ogu/Bolo community and the entire senatorial district will remain supportive to Mr President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and ensure his success in the forthcoming election. Addressing the public last weekend at Ogu/Bolo during a special reception/thanksgiving in honour of his conferment with the National Award of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) by President Goodluck Jonathan GCFR, Sen Sekibo thanked Mr President for the honour done him and his entire people, adding that without his people electing him to serve them, he wouldn't have been given such opportunity. In the same vein, Princess Asime George Thompson Sekibo (JP), wife of the Senator said that she was the happiest person because her husband had served the community and the entire senatorial district well, even to an extent that, Mr. President recognized him and bestowed him with such national honour. Princess Asime Sekibo advised youths in the community and Nigeria at large to embrace peace, and should not be used by politicians to perpetrate acts that are inimical because the country wants peace, even as “mama peace”, Dame Patience Jonathan continues to preach everyday adding that, without peace, there would not be harmony, progress and unity. She therefore, called on the women to remain focused and avoid being deceived by what a man has achieved but look beyond how to achieve things with men by struggling, hoping that, if at the end success is achieved she would become a virtuous woman and the husband would continue to be proud of them. Speaking further, Rt. Hon. Evans Bapakaye Bipi, Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, joined other dignitaries to honour Sen Sekibo in recognition of his numerous sacrificial services he has rendered to Nigerians in the past eleven years. Hon. Bipi described Senator Sekibo as an epitome of a trustworthy and purposeful leader, who has touched the lives of the common men and women, widows, orphans and youths, adding that, his benevolence was further affirmed by this National Award, which he said was worthy of celebration. In same vein, Pastor Chris Ndubuisi Elijah also joined well meaning Nigerians to celebrate a man he said has served his people by changing their lives positively, adding that, as a friend, he sees Sen. Sekibo as a courageous servant. According to the Minister of God, it is God that gives power and sustains leadership in all ramifications, and when one is given the opportunity to serve, he should make sure such person identifies with his people first before considering personal purse. He therefore, called on politicians to remain hopeful on God and emulate Sen Sekibo, who has done well, right from his home and the nation, which he described as a right step in the right direction, adding that, politicians should avoid satanic powers because such powers do not work out well. Dignitaries from all walks of life within and outside Rivers State witnessed the wonderful event. |
By Eze Basil Chinwendu Oluo D'Oracle The past few days have been bad days for me, because of so much cold I got exposed to, but it got worse when my radio airwaves was hijacked by a very embarrassing situation; FG announces intention to reconstruct 14 secondary schools in Rivers State, Rivers State Government asks FG to stay off secondary schools under Rivers State and focus on the two Federal Government Colleges in the state. The above is a perfect dramatisation of the level of 'jam-body' pedestrian politics being played today. Issues that are sorted on the roundtable and over the phone have now become the unchallenged residents of headline news and cover pages of print media. While the Rivers State Government may be right in their suspicion of politics behind the FG decision, we should be reminded that if we had done what we should have done, FG would not have come with the 'politics' of secondary schools reconstruction- if our secondary schools were alive, FG would not be talking of resurrection. WHAT IS THE STATE OF OUR SECONDARY SCHOOLS? There are over 250 secondary schools run by the Rivers State Government. Of these, only the Ambassador Ine Kurubo Model secondary School built by the current government and the County Grammar School Ikwerre Etche remodeled by the Omehia led government can be called SCHOOLS in the proper sense. All others are more like the typical Nigerian mechanic garages. It is the same story from the city centre and to the rural areas. In 2011, I did a tour of our secondary schools and came back with stories of fallen walls, roofless blocks, empty classrooms, and worse of all 'forested schools' (schools overtaken by bushes and this includes both the famous and not too famous schools. IT WILL NOT BE TOTALLY WRONG TO SAY THAT SECONDARY SCHOOLS BUILDINGS IN RIVERS STATE IS DEAD. The most populous secondary school in Rivers State is the Girls Secondary School, Oromineke, fondly called Oromineke girls. As I write, its roof continues to fall off and the state government has not cared. In the same 2011, I called the attention of the State to the decadence in our secondary schools and made particular mention of Oromineke Girls, but nothing was done. Note, it was even students of that school that built that massive storey building in that premises. Students contributed to build that structure and not even that act of sacrifice has been able to remind the state government of its duties. See attached photo for evidence of the state of this school. There is no man up to 40 years of age who grew up in Rivers State who doesn't know or who hasn't heard of Etche Girls Secondary School, Obibi. This is one of the most popular and famous Girls school in Rivers State. It was so popular that Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe as a head of government visited it. That school like CGS Ikwerre-Etche has contributed women of stature to this society. Etche Girls was also seen as the wife of CGS Ikwerre-Etche, but today, the husband and wife are miles apart in terms of infrastructure and quality of learning. There is no building, not even one, in the whole premises of Etche Girls Secondary School that is fit for human habitation. I made a case for this school which served as a centre of unity for River women but no response came. Today, the school has become a haven for criminals and criminal activities; rape, occult initiation, robbery, kidnapping, just name it. I kept praying and hoping that the tears I cried whenever I remembered this school would melt the heart of the Rivers State Government, but as I write, my tears haven't found its way anywhere near the heart of the Government. See pictorial evidence of the state of the school attached. Government Secondary School, Okehi is completely gone, too. How about Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokwuta? In 2014, this school still has wooden classrooms (batcha classrooms). This is another very big girls school in the city of Port Harcourt. There is a stench of a decay in this premises. The school is as porous as anything and its land is continuously being encroached upon. Its structures like the rest of the other 250 plus schools is gone. It is now known more for the sporting activities organised by locals there, than it is for academics. Move to the Old Port Harcourt Town axis, Baptist High School, Comprehensive Secondary School, Enitonia High School, and the rest, the story is the same- ALARMING DECAY! This is not to mention the many who have never qualified for the appellation of a Secondar School- those ones with 'I' structures built by communities as a means of self help. I mean the Community Secondary Schools, they too have all decayed, without government attention, the communities got tired and the schools are crying for help. A few years ago, I got to know that the proposed model secondary schools of which only seven were started and only one functional, each is costing the State a whooping N4.5 billion and another N800million per annum to maintain. I shook my head in disbelief. We had gotten our policies and priorities wrong from the onset. Expending N4.5 billion naira on one school with a capacity of just a thousand students, and with a further burden of N800 million per annum, where the same amount can renovate more than 70% of the existing 250 plus schools has until today defied economic reason, to me. That was pure VOODPONOMICS; a combination of voodoo and political economics. I did a write up on this some years ago and called on the state government to revisit its secondary school policy as the current one was and is still doing more harm than good. But they didn't listen. I am shouting it again in this write up and maybe the Government will hear my voice this time. DON'T KEEP SPENDING N4.5 BILLION ON A SCHOOL THAT WILL ACCOMODATE JUST 1,000 STUDENTS WHEN THE SAME AMOUNT CAN TURN AROUND ALMOST ALL OF OUR 250 PLUS EXISTING SECONDARY SCHOOLS. We as Rivers people and our Government should hide our faces in shame; for our actions and inactions, that from Abuja, a city 479.01 KM away from us, the smelly state of our secondary schools have been noticed. Our State Government has been accusing the Federal Government of neglect, now we are rejecting Federal projects? Rivers people must stop the State Government from rejecting the FG intervention, if we are renovating ourselves, which is what we shoul do, we have to liaise and rechannel what the FG is proposing. The energy the Rivers State Government is dissipating, saying no to the FG intervention, she should immediately rechannel into the renovation of our schools immediately. The Ministry of Information of Rivers State must save us further embarrassment by stopping this radio rejection of FG projects in a state that is still within the Federation. It should instead, join forces with the Education Ministry in the next EXCO and, or InterGovernmental meeting, to make a case for the immediate start of renovation works on our secondary schools. The Council should, if they are renovating, write the FG, suggesting other areas where they would prefer the intervention to be redirected to. We should either begin renovation works, or shut up, hide our face in shame and gratefully accept the intervention of the Federal Government of Nigeria. |
