Brymo and Asa!!!
Sorry, but I don't agree. Brymo is a jerk who calls himself the "best in the music industry", Asa doesn't need that guy to work with her. Yeah they've got a similar sound and their voices would go nice, but I want their personalities to be compatible too.

I've always thought she'd do a great collabo with Ronnie Davis, reggae singer... till I found out he died..... her and Ziggie Marley would probably do very well! Or her and Adeh Gbolahan.

vaxx:
Your question has two answer yes and no... let me start with NO , using myself as an example, There is no way you can separate me from my upbringing, culture, environment, parentage, neighborhood, peers, the compound in which I grow up, and from the things I grow up cherishing. it will take you till eternity to do so. if you study Yoruba society very well, you will realized the truthfulness of this statement. In our society Christianity and traditional religion has missed up... visit all these indigenous Yoruba churches, you will perceived an aroma of Yoruba tradition religion in them.. people still follow their traditions and culture. . Christianity has come to stay in our society ,no doubt, but crushing our culture is nearly impossible... ile-ife as an example will not replace the royal practices with church practices.... osun oshogbo festival is actively promoting our existing culture,it has even been recognize at the UNESCO and so many more......

yes,to some extent, The advent of fundamentalist christian is so dangerous to our society, particularly the ones who says they are seeing visions to bring down our local shrines and call everything we do satanic.... despite being accommodating to them, the still see us as devil incarnate, this fundamentalist are gradually having strong influence on some of our youth, who actually have not taken their time to study their own culture but blindly subscribe to this teachings.... but i think their influence can be put into check.....
Well said Vaxx! I honestly think this is what I meant to put in my earlier post, yes I used the word "destroy" but I think that I meant something more like "hinder" or "take over". Something more like that.

BTW I'm sensing some arguing on here, let's not fight and make this thread like all of the others on here with bickering and unnecessary fights please.

Christianity EtcSomeone Please Explain Iyami! by FeelDeMusic(op): 3:57pm On Feb 27, 2018
Hi all,

For those of you who are practitioners of the traditional Yoruba Ifa faith, I'd really like for some of you to explain the concept of "Iyami" or "Aje". I'm very confused on this subject, at first I thought Iyami were witches, then I found out they weren't witches per se, but just very powerful women. Then I thought Aje were witches, but it turns out again that Aje are also Iyami, or something along those lines.... it's just so confusing! Someone please explain because I need clarification, ose!
EducationRe: Nigerian Parents Pay For Their Kids To Learn British Accent by FeelDeMusic: 3:23pm On Feb 27, 2018
Hmmmm.... I'm honestly not too sure what to say about this... the reason I find this topic so interesting however is that it, to me, does show a bit of what you could call inferiority complex. What I believe the actions of these parents show is the lack of pride in their own culture, their own accent, their own purely Nigerian heritage. I agree with many on here that if you want to speak proper English, well, just know how to speak proper English! That doesn't mean changing your accent to fit what your perception of formal or proper may be. It just means that you simply have to master grammar and all that, no matter your accent.
Christianity EtcRe: Do You Think Christianity Had Crushed Our Native Cultures? by FeelDeMusic: 9:59pm On Feb 24, 2018
Also, so-called "witch" killings are prevalent thanks to Christianity, the killing of innocint women and little children, just because a pastor says that a woman or a child is a "witch", the reasons being numorous, from the poverty of the family of this child or that belongs to the woman, to the family getting sick, the list goes on and on and on. And because of these reasons which can very, very easily be explained by logic and conclusive thinking, the pastor, or even a member of the family, must kill them, or "take the demons out of them", both of which are incredibly barbaric, inhumane, careless and heartless!!!
Yes, you can argue that Africans have had a similar mentality all throughout because more traditional religious practices had the concept of witches and of killing those who were thought to be witches. But guess what? Almost all religions, from wherever, that believed in the concept of evil sorcerers threatening or being able to threaten their lives, were unfortunately guilty of this practice. We didn't know any better back then, we thought everything was attributed to magic or any other such thing. And, now that it's the 21st century, we best move on with our lives and come to accept the fact that witches are still not real and will not come to harm people, and that killing them in the name of whatever religion is unquestionably felonious, pointless, inhumane, and frightening!

DejiSantos:
The way we treat homosexuals in Nigeria is part of Christian/Muslim culture.

Whether you agree with it or not.

Putting someone in jail for what they do in the privacy of their bedroom with another consenting adult is crazy.
I absolutely agree with you DejiSantos. Since I'm an American the acceptance of gay and lesbian people here is a lot laxer and much more friendlier. I never did and never do judge someone based on their racial, sexual, or ethnic orientation. Everyone is beautiful no matter who they are!

well some of the so callled cultural practices Christianity crushed is worth crushing. also culture is not static it is dynamic. for us to advance as a society we need to adapt to the ever changing world.
That's true. However as I mentioned there are both good and bad things about all cultures wherever you look, not just in Africa. So people can take out the bad parts of those cultures and keep the good aspects.

Obi1kenobi:
I wouldn't quite say Christianity destroyed our culture. There were no Isaac Newtons or Shakespeares or Beethovens among my ancestors when the colonialists came here. grin

Nevertheless, I believe these Abrahamic religions have been harmful to our national psyche. I don't care to comment on Islam as I have no life experience as a Muslim, but Christianity - especially new age Pentecostal Christianity - has swept through the modern generation espousing a perverted, insidious, pernicious influence devoid of humanistic values. Modern Pentecostal Christianity is not like what those CMS Anglican missionaries or Catholics brought to us. There is a fanaticism about Pentecostalism that cannot allow "culture" to thrive. Wole Soyinka would never have been a great author if he were falling under the "anointing" of a pastor. Neither would Achebe. Nobody that attends Lord's Chosen will ever be an accomplished visual artist or novelist or poet or composer.
I agree!
Christianity EtcRe: Do You Think Christianity Had Crushed Our Native Cultures? by FeelDeMusic: 9:19pm On Feb 20, 2018
I believe that Christianity has played a roll in destroying native African cultures and religions. And, as Kevoh said, there are good and bad aspects in all cultures, not just those of Nigeria or anywhere else in Africa, and, unfortunately that seems as if that's what it's going to be for quite a while.
I myself am a culture nerd and adore studying different societies and cultures from different parts of the world and from different time periods.

Ok, well whether she lost it at twenty-eight or twenty I don't care, it's her life and her body and she should be allowed to make her own choices about matters like these. Virginity doesn't define a woman you know.
