Christianity EtcRe: How Will You Prefer To Be Buried? by FeelDeMusic: 8:04pm On Apr 25, 2018
kevoh:
I will prefer the type where my remains are cremated and then turned into a beautiful precious diamond which my family can keep. There are some companies offering such services at about $3000 I think.
Oh my god, that's true! I have actually been thinking to have that done when my parents are about to die. Like take some of their hair and turn it into two diamonds to wear.
Christianity EtcRe: How Will You Prefer To Be Buried? by FeelDeMusic: 5:32pm On Apr 25, 2018
vaxx:
i agree with you to some extent on cremation. but being buried in the old traditional way is a little bit greedy to me. what if you donate your organ and save a living ,the transplanted part of you still live while the remain is buried. is that not awesome
No, it's cool! Don't get me wrong. But I'd rather just be barried normally as I don't see myself donating anything of mine to science.
Christianity EtcRe: How Will You Prefer To Be Buried? by FeelDeMusic: 4:49pm On Apr 25, 2018
I am completely against cremation--I don't know why, it just seems destructive in my eyes. Yes the body is dead and can't be used except for donation and things, but I wouldn't want that. I'd rather just be barried normally.

CultureWho Is Luwabi? by FeelDeMusic(op): 10:35pm On Apr 23, 2018
Hi all,

So I sometimes come across the name Luwabi here on NL when I'm reading cultural or religious threads. According to the people who write about him he was a famous Yoruba person who... umm..... was wise and had an impact on Yoruba civilization somehow? I really have no idea as their descriptions of him seem vague. So I want to know what you guys who are knowledgeable about this know about him. Thanks!
Christianity EtcRe: Pastor Poju Oyemade: "How Culture Is Destroying Christianity In Africa" by FeelDeMusic: 8:08pm On Apr 23, 2018
OtemAtum is right. Every single culture in the world has a good and bad side, whether you'd like to acknowledge it or not. Take away the bad and keep the good, and be proud of the good.
Christianity EtcRe: Jesus Not The Only Ancestor Who Died For People To Be Saved – Seun Kuti by FeelDeMusic: 3:21pm On Apr 21, 2018
Dalamama:
I really can not understand why Africans believe and accept that a Jewish hippie that died over 2000 years ago died to save them. Save them from what exactly? Madness.
LOL! Agreed! Though I have no quarrels with African peoples choosing the religion they want, the state of religions in African countries currently is insane.
Christianity EtcRe: Jesus Not The Only Ancestor Who Died For People To Be Saved – Seun Kuti by FeelDeMusic: 3:16pm On Apr 21, 2018
[quote author=HappyPagan post=66888618]It's not madness... it's just unfortunate. They do not know history, at least not as you do.

The indoctrination begins in the schools, the so-called knowledge production centers. But what kind of knowledge are they producing?

The Bible/Quran is a core component of the Nigerian educational system... You learn from a young age that God is Jewish if you're born in a Christian home; the Muslims worship Allah, a lesser God. Yahweh is the Almighty. All other gods bow to him.

African/indigenous religions are barely touched; when they are discussed, we are taught our ancestors were savages, brutal, needed help, and the white man brought it through Jesus. Nollywood reinforces these thought patterns.

The Trans-Atlantic Slave trade and colonization and the legacies they left behind are rarely discussed. Heck, we didn't even learn about Biafra.. Most of the pictures we have of the war are gotten from secondhand and, and mostly ill-informed sources. Our past begins in Genesis, the future in Revelations.

I do have some suspicions that the miseducation is deliberate. With the citizen's feet in Africa, and the minds in Jerusalem, it doesn't take much to control political thought. Religion is how the Nigerian government ensures the people never hold them accountable, afterall God is in control. All that happens, happens because He wills.

This generation of Apostles, Prophets and Reverends will leave behind a generation of 'Yes Sirs' and 'Amen'. There is a lot of re-education to be done. [/quote
]Love your post Happy Pagan. Couldn't have agreed better! Though I'm not African I'm a history buff and also pretty anti-colonial.
Christianity EtcRe: ARE CERTAIN KIDS BORN WITH DREADLOCKS? by FeelDeMusic: 2:27pm On Apr 19, 2018
Wow... this thread is golden! hahahahaahahaahahaha

Hair is hair. That's it, nothing more. Sure, maybe some kids are born with dreads, which I don't find evil. The Yoruba have this belief that they are sacred, which is great.

I can't really answer for the OP as I've never experienced people with natural dreads that they've had from birth.
Christianity EtcRe: I've Never Seen A Breed Of Christians As Hateful As Those On Nairaland!! by FeelDeMusic: 3:34pm On Apr 18, 2018
AnonyNymous:
And Nairaland is a cross section of Nigeria, so its safe to assume that a sizeable portion of so called Christian Nigerians have so much hatred in their hearts.

I used to be extremely active on this section but I had to leave. I couldn't stand the name calling, the petty insults masked as 'arguments', the intellectual dishonesty, and so on. Of all the people I've encountered here, only ONE has behaved 'Christ-like' in a manner that I was truly able to enjoy discussing with him and understand his point of view, clearly. I'd like to mention his username but I wouldn't do so to protect his privacy as I don't think he's active here anymore either. To be honest, I was losing grip of logic and felt encouraged to meet him in a church someday (maybe I will grin )

Of course, the Christian Bible (especially the old testament) is so full of violence and savagery that you wouldn't expect much from its followers- but then they claim to magically have all of that washed away by Jesus, who is supposed to be their new role model. And Jesus was a complete pacifist- nearly to the point of stupidity through the eyes of a typical person. But the so called Christians on Nairaland think that by insulting people, sometimes even making unwarranted, crude remarks about their family members, including lies to win arguments or present their position, is supposed to 'win souls' for thus same Christ.

I have met Christian humanists on reddit, YouTube comments, and some other social sites. Atheists who believe in the moral code of Jesus as a person but just don't believe in God. Honestly, if you compare their attitude to these so called "Christians", you'd wonder why these ones get to have an 'eternal bliss' in heaven while those that did everything the Bible said to do (except believe in God, lol) are going to burn in hell for all eternity. These Christians on Nairaland make the whole God thing look less believable.

I've also noticed that most Christian topics seem to be centred on atheism. One of them claimed that that's because their Christian topics get invaded. But that's a big lie. If you notice the trend here, the harmless topics get ignored- but the ones where people can come and 'flex muscles' and prove their mastery of English insults always end up with the highest number of pages. I wonder if it makes their god, or Jesus happy. You know, to condemn others on the internet. LOL.

Why am I ranting? Well on the thread about Theresa May advocating for same sex marriage, I made a simple comment, asking someone for his own definition of natural- since homosexuality is observable in over 1500 other animal species (nature).

I was suddenly hounded by barrages of insults from Christians. I wonder if their god would be proud of them for doing so. If that would win them extra points on their heaven scoresheet.

What particularly made me mad is a long time Nairalander, who KNOWS I'm not an atheist- going to everyone who quoted me with insults and egging them on, while telling them I'm an atheist and a closeted gay guy. I was just baffled at how far these guys are willing to go. It almost seems as if their 'evangelism' on here has nothing to do with the book they claim to believe in but just to massage their ego. To prove that they are

-smart
-capable of winning arguments
-can use logic

But they all FAIL at these three, and horribly so. I'm pretty convinced that they aren't working to 'promote Christ' because they are polar opposites of the character in question.

For anyone who cares to know, I've always been of the strong belief that this physical (3 dimensional) world isn't all there is to existence, and I never ruled out the possibility of some form of a god/God, though I'm pretty convinced it isn't interested in our affairs- unless we ourselves are the gods we seek (pantheism) which makes more sense. Long story. I could talk about that in another thread.

Why else am I ranting? Being a good person gives you the highest statistical probability of a decent afterlife. (See below). Some people need religion to be good people and that's understandable. I just wanted to appeal to Christians on here to have a change of behaviour and see the quality of their discussions improve. Maybe you might even 'win a few souls' here and there. Enough of the hypocrisy.

Of course, insults are welcome.
I couldn't have said it better AnonyNymous. You are right on! These folks can be extremely nasty and it just makes me boil.

Another thing that really really upsets me about the Christians on here is what exactly they believe in. And I'm not talking about their tenets of their religion... I'm talking about all of this other BS--illuminati, demons, dream interpretations, spirit wives--what the actual hellhuhhuh?

And I also must say, as I usually do, please let's not argue or insult here! If we are going to debate let it be civil for once sef.

Ase!

Hmmm, this thread is interesting sha. Though I'm not completely for the whole animal sacrifice thing, I really don't see what's wrong in this man having freedom to worship/honor whatever god he wants to. I can accept and tollerate what he's doing since generally, as Pagan9Ja said, the animal is usually consumed, not just left out there to rot.

Holy crap....you're CuteMadridista? Whoa!!! Well that's a first coming in contact with the same person under a different identity! But that's cool that you've got an alter ego! I like that hahaha!

May I ask why you've been banned or is that more private info that you don't want to discuss?

Wow! Thought you left Nairaland, searched for your monicker and saw your last thread was you leaving Nairaland and I thought "He's gone"
Actually I'm a "she" LOL!

Anyhow, yeah, at first I thought that I'd leave for good but then I realized that I just had to take a step back for a moment and rethink. It was foolish of me to have said all that I did and I really shouldn't have been so mean on here when I myself try to propagate peace as much as I'm able to on this forum. I'm sorry if I've upset you.

Also do you think that Seun could maybe delete that thread for me? I now feel bad having it here.

revontuli:
I'm curious about juju and native religions.
Do the juju priests summon spirits? Or travel to the astral themselves and negotiate with the spirits/gods there?
I know a bit about the pagan religion and witchcraft of Yoruba origin practiced in Latin America (Santeria) but next to nothing about the living African native religion and juju practices.
I see a lot of info about the money rituals involving gruesome murder, but that can't be the only kind of magic practice. The other example I saw was Oba of Benin lifting curses to help out the sex trafficking victims.
Are there witchcraft practices for good purpose like healing, helping marriage problems, not involving any blood?
Any distinct divination, fortune telling practices? Dream interpretations? What do they do for banishing the bad spirits/energies?
Honestly, I hate the word "juju" being applied to this kind of stuff--to me, it's as if someone would call Wiccan practices "hocus pocus", it just sounds like a very childish term in my eyes.

Funnily enough, the word "juju" actually comes from the French word "jou jou", meaning "plaything". When French colonists came to Western Africa and saw many peoples wearing these amulets and all, they seemed like toys to the French so thus "jou jou".

I really can't put my opinions/answers to this question here as I don't live in Africa, I don't live in Nigeria and thus I really don't know much about this situation. However I am aware that these despicable bastards began practicing these rituals so prevalent now all thanks to Nollywood. You can argue that these things were in place before then but I honestly beg to differ.

Also the idea that you can kill for wealth is nothing new.. it's just a perpetuated popular superstition that has been here for centuries.

FeelDeMusic,
Oh no problem at all...and you are welcome.
So you are white.....ok...I assumed you were black American.
SO excuse my part pertaining to Black Americans...but it still can apply to any "foreigner".
I get the impulsive nature that we all at times have struggled with...
Thanks for coming back....cause I tell you this: It's difficult leaving this "land" permanently...lol.
Be encouraged...and take care...
Thank you so much Mobilia! I think I'm going to just try to forget everything that happened in the past and I'll just move on and come back! Yay!!!

I just feel so so terrible now for expressing my feelings in the past, I'm sure people may have thought of me as aggressive! LOL but that's not me. I am not an aggressive person, and I'm not someone who tries to be so, I try to be kind, gentle, peaceful and loving.... in fact I often try to end arguments here!

But now it's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's time to move on and not deell in the past mistakes!

Hello all,

I'm back just to sort of check on things..... Mobilia, thank you so, so much for your encouraging and kind words, but Olu also has a point. Honestly after some reflection I feel very bad for spewing my words the way I did.

I am not black American at all, I'm white! LOL But I love Africa, African cultures and peoples and languages and all, it's just so fascinating to me.

Again, I'm just coming on here to reply to everyone who has contributed, saying:

1. I'm extremely sorry for all of the harshness that I conveyed here to you all in the first few posts, and I know that wasn't necessary at all.

2. I really appreciate your encouragement and I can't thank you enough for empathizing. You all are wonderful people......

I do honestly want to go back on here so badly, but at the same time I'm not sure if I'll go back to the same experiences... I've never been bullied on here at all and I've had a fine time with everyone TBH. Really my responses I believe were more in the moment.

Anyhow, I'm glad this thread turned into what it did: instead of insults there is some meaningful conversations here.

oh no, I started following you just to see how you will cope with how Nigerians approach social media. Can't you stay a little bit to learn our unique culture and approach to social media? It is completely different from what you will see else where. Anyway, I wish you all the best.
Hi.. I appreciate your encouragement, and yes I understand that Nigerian people do approach the Internet a little differently, I get that. And this has nothing to do with Nigeria as a country or the love for it I still possess. I just need to take some time off from this forum for a bit and regroup, rethink and examine things of my own. I'm sorry if I've sounded harsh on here, I'm just a little upset right now and I don't want to have to offend anyone.

My decision is final though. I hate to leave but I must. I wish you the best too.

I'm letting those who want to know that I'm unfortunately leaving Nairaland for the time being. I will not be making any new posts and I have cleared my account of all followers and followed topics. I am not sure how long I'll be inactive, but for now I believe it's the best dicision for me. I'm sorry to go and I'll miss those who I have gotten to "know" on here.

Cheers.

Oh no no no no, not this bullshit again.... I don't know about y'all, but I believe that hard work comes from perseverance, talent, and passion, not magical powers. But I've unfortunately been hearing these kinds of things about almost anyone famous for a long time now.... I was into all of these conspiracies at one point myself and believed everything that everyone on this thread believes, trust me. However I soon got over it, and although I'm not at all trying to force anyone to believe what I do, I just think that all these sorts of things are constructed in people's heads as a result of envy or jealousy for the artist at hand.
