kevoh:Oh my god, that's true! I have actually been thinking to have that done when my parents are about to die. Like take some of their hair and turn it into two diamonds to wear. |
vaxx:No, it's cool! Don't get me wrong. But I'd rather just be barried normally as I don't see myself donating anything of mine to science. |
I am completely against cremation--I don't know why, it just seems destructive in my eyes. Yes the body is dead and can't be used except for donation and things, but I wouldn't want that. I'd rather just be barried normally. |
macof:Hahahahaha! Oh!!! Ok, I see now! Well!! LOL I guess it's a metaphor then. Interesting.! |
Hi all, So I sometimes come across the name Luwabi here on NL when I'm reading cultural or religious threads. According to the people who write about him he was a famous Yoruba person who... umm..... was wise and had an impact on Yoruba civilization somehow? I really have no idea as their descriptions of him seem vague. So I want to know what you guys who are knowledgeable about this know about him. Thanks! |
OtemAtum is right. Every single culture in the world has a good and bad side, whether you'd like to acknowledge it or not. Take away the bad and keep the good, and be proud of the good. |
Dalamama:LOL! Agreed! Though I have no quarrels with African peoples choosing the religion they want, the state of religions in African countries currently is insane. |
It's not madness... it's just unfortunate. They do not know history, at least not as you do. The indoctrination begins in the schools, the so-called knowledge production centers. But what kind of knowledge are they producing? The Bible/Quran is a core component of the Nigerian educational system... You learn from a young age that God is Jewish if you're born in a Christian home; the Muslims worship Allah, a lesser God. Yahweh is the Almighty. All other gods bow to him. African/indigenous religions are barely touched; when they are discussed, we are taught our ancestors were savages, brutal, needed help, and the white man brought it through Jesus. Nollywood reinforces these thought patterns. The Trans-Atlantic Slave trade and colonization and the legacies they left behind are rarely discussed. Heck, we didn't even learn about Biafra.. Most of the pictures we have of the war are gotten from secondhand and, and mostly ill-informed sources. Our past begins in Genesis, the future in Revelations. I do have some suspicions that the miseducation is deliberate. With the citizen's feet in Africa, and the minds in Jerusalem, it doesn't take much to control political thought. Religion is how the Nigerian government ensures the people never hold them accountable, afterall God is in control. All that happens, happens because He wills. This generation of Apostles, Prophets and Reverends will leave behind a generation of 'Yes Sirs' and 'Amen'. There is a lot of re-education to be done.
Love your post Happy Pagan. Couldn't have agreed better! Though I'm not African I'm a history buff and also pretty anti-colonial. |
Wow... this thread is golden! hahahahaahahaahahaha Hair is hair. That's it, nothing more. Sure, maybe some kids are born with dreads, which I don't find evil. The Yoruba have this belief that they are sacred, which is great. I can't really answer for the OP as I've never experienced people with natural dreads that they've had from birth. |
AnonyNymous:I couldn't have said it better AnonyNymous. You are right on! These folks can be extremely nasty and it just makes me boil. Another thing that really really upsets me about the Christians on here is what exactly they believe in. And I'm not talking about their tenets of their religion... I'm talking about all of this other BS--illuminati, demons, dream interpretations, spirit wives--what the actual hell ![]() ? And I also must say, as I usually do, please let's not argue or insult here! If we are going to debate let it be civil for once sef. Ase! |
Luckyabuchi:Nothing. |
Hmmm, this thread is interesting sha. Though I'm not completely for the whole animal sacrifice thing, I really don't see what's wrong in this man having freedom to worship/honor whatever god he wants to. I can accept and tollerate what he's doing since generally, as Pagan9Ja said, the animal is usually consumed, not just left out there to rot. |
People get banned for a variety of reasons although all bans are temporary My various bans have been either due to antispambot going bananas or my ridiculing a religion.
Oh, I see. Well I don't think those sorts of things would cause you to be banned... I mean not agreeing with a religion? Jese... that's just stupid. |
hopefulLandlord:Holy crap....you're CuteMadridista? Whoa!!! Well that's a first coming in contact with the same person under a different identity! But that's cool that you've got an alter ego! I like that hahaha! Thank you. I'm happy to be back. May I ask why you've been banned or is that more private info that you don't want to discuss? |
hopefulLandlord:Actually I'm a "she" LOL! Anyhow, yeah, at first I thought that I'd leave for good but then I realized that I just had to take a step back for a moment and rethink. It was foolish of me to have said all that I did and I really shouldn't have been so mean on here when I myself try to propagate peace as much as I'm able to on this forum. I'm sorry if I've upset you. Also do you think that Seun could maybe delete that thread for me? I now feel bad having it here. |
Favor99:I'm confused as to what you're saying. |
revontuli:Honestly, I hate the word "juju" being applied to this kind of stuff--to me, it's as if someone would call Wiccan practices "hocus pocus", it just sounds like a very childish term in my eyes. Funnily enough, the word "juju" actually comes from the French word "jou jou", meaning "plaything". When French colonists came to Western Africa and saw many peoples wearing these amulets and all, they seemed like toys to the French so thus "jou jou". I really can't put my opinions/answers to this question here as I don't live in Africa, I don't live in Nigeria and thus I really don't know much about this situation. However I am aware that these despicable bastards began practicing these rituals so prevalent now all thanks to Nollywood. You can argue that these things were in place before then but I honestly beg to differ. Also the idea that you can kill for wealth is nothing new.. it's just a perpetuated popular superstition that has been here for centuries. |
Hi all, Let's see if we can start this thread again.. though there has been fights I think we can try our best to make it civil again and just ask questions. |
Mobilia:Thank you so much Mobilia! I think I'm going to just try to forget everything that happened in the past and I'll just move on and come back! Yay!!! I just feel so so terrible now for expressing my feelings in the past, I'm sure people may have thought of me as aggressive! LOL but that's not me. I am not an aggressive person, and I'm not someone who tries to be so, I try to be kind, gentle, peaceful and loving.... in fact I often try to end arguments here! But now it's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's time to move on and not deell in the past mistakes! |
iHart:Haha, thank you! Not sure if I'll be on here very frequently but I just wanted to come here to clarify and appoligize, I saw my thread was getting attention so I wanted to chime in. |
Hello all, I'm back just to sort of check on things..... Mobilia, thank you so, so much for your encouraging and kind words, but Olu also has a point. Honestly after some reflection I feel very bad for spewing my words the way I did. I am not black American at all, I'm white! LOL But I love Africa, African cultures and peoples and languages and all, it's just so fascinating to me. Again, I'm just coming on here to reply to everyone who has contributed, saying: 1. I'm extremely sorry for all of the harshness that I conveyed here to you all in the first few posts, and I know that wasn't necessary at all. 2. I really appreciate your encouragement and I can't thank you enough for empathizing. You all are wonderful people...... I do honestly want to go back on here so badly, but at the same time I'm not sure if I'll go back to the same experiences... I've never been bullied on here at all and I've had a fine time with everyone TBH. Really my responses I believe were more in the moment. Anyhow, I'm glad this thread turned into what it did: instead of insults there is some meaningful conversations here. |
iHart:Hi.. I appreciate your encouragement, and yes I understand that Nigerian people do approach the Internet a little differently, I get that. And this has nothing to do with Nigeria as a country or the love for it I still possess. I just need to take some time off from this forum for a bit and regroup, rethink and examine things of my own. I'm sorry if I've sounded harsh on here, I'm just a little upset right now and I don't want to have to offend anyone. My decision is final though. I hate to leave but I must. I wish you the best too. |
In fact, I want to leave because of the attitudes so many people display here and the constant arguing over pointless things. It upsets me to no end. |
Look, I don't care what any of you believe. I felt as if I should let at least someone know. Yeah maybe it was stupid but guess what? I did it, it's done, and that's all I have to say. Would you like me to ask Seun to delete this thread? |
Hello, I'm letting those who want to know that I'm unfortunately leaving Nairaland for the time being. I will not be making any new posts and I have cleared my account of all followers and followed topics. I am not sure how long I'll be inactive, but for now I believe it's the best dicision for me. I'm sorry to go and I'll miss those who I have gotten to "know" on here. Cheers. |
eosigwe:Ok...... if you're speaking Pidgin unfortunately I can't really understand it. I'm sorry if I was harsh to you. |
eosigwe:Excuse me? Please clarify sir/ma'am. Are you proposing that Wizkid's nickname of "Starboy" makes him somehow evil and devilish because somehow he worships stars or the occult? Again, believe me, I've been through these theories countless times so..... |
MrxxxSmart:Agreed oh |
eosigwe:........ and this has to do with what? |
iHart:You're probably right. He needs a bigger team. |
Oh no no no no, not this bullshit again.... I don't know about y'all, but I believe that hard work comes from perseverance, talent, and passion, not magical powers. But I've unfortunately been hearing these kinds of things about almost anyone famous for a long time now.... I was into all of these conspiracies at one point myself and believed everything that everyone on this thread believes, trust me. However I soon got over it, and although I'm not at all trying to force anyone to believe what I do, I just think that all these sorts of things are constructed in people's heads as a result of envy or jealousy for the artist at hand. And please please please, as I always state no arguing unless it's a civil, calm debate! |
gypsey:LOL! Yes I am, at least I believe so myself! ![]() |
There's no such person
