Tolabell:Must you be so concerned as to ask me why I'm replying? |
Must you ask this question? |
BLESSMME:Those are awesome songs, "Jailer" is my favorite too! |
Hey guys, I'm sorry that my questions posed here may not really be of interest, but honestly that's what I came to Nairaland to do--ask questions about Naija and its many cultures and people. I haven't posted many pictures or stories because I really didn't think I had to. I'm blind also, of course this doesn't make me any less a person (hahaha) but posting pics isn't really my thing in that regard! (LOL) Is there some way I can make my posts more lively? I'm from America in case any of you are wondering, and I'm an oyinbo too (hahaha)! |
This makes no sense on this thread.... |
Hey everyone, So, I'm writing this post because I genuinely want to ask this question, I swear I'm not trying to be conceded or egotistical when I do. If so, I'm so sorry! Anyway... I've noticed that I may post a topic here on NL and it may receive many, many views but no responses. For instance, a topic that I've posted here has received around two-hundred and eighty views and yet I'm the only one who has posted on it. Does anyone know why this is? Is it because of lack of interest? Just someone browsing the different sections? I'm confused! ![]() |
Hi all, I'm just wondering what your favorite Asa song is. I'm a huge fan of hers and I'd like to hear you guys' picks for songs that you most appreciate from her, and perhaps how you got into her and why you like her. |
So no one go reply dis tread abi? |
Sometimes people post strange things on Nairaland. |
If he were from Earth don't you think he'd tell y'all? |
Happen and people will learn from them. |
Don't you know Google isn't relyable? |

A lot of people try to do things right, but sometimes they make mistakes. |
Why do you want to know if I care to know? |
What you look like you're doing won't mean a thing if you're not doing what you're doing. |
No, are you one? |
Whack ain't nice, Whack ain't ok To say to someone who's havin' a bad day. |
Do I look like someone who smokes? |
Water sprinkled down atop the woman's head as she reeled her neck back, joy overtaking her as she became in tune with the river, with the rain, with the magic of her mother's creations. |
Ok.. so here's what I know... opailu/opa is the stick you use to beat the drum. Oson are the tention strings that you squeeze to regulate the pitch, eki is, I believe, the leather that goes around the rim of the drum heads. Awo is the skin.. maybe? |

Ok, next one! Yemi Alade is a twenty-one-year-old college student going to the Institute of Music for the Unbelievably Gifted and Powerful, along with her roommate Asa. Yemi is quirky, childlike, ditsy and very hyper, essentially the opposite of her roommate. She wears her long, curly black hair in a bun or any other such tight, cramped style, along with long, fake lashes, dark brown eyeshadow, black mascara, and red-painted lips. She has large, medium-brown eyes, light brown skin, and is around five-foot six. She generally wears tighter clothing that accentuates her curves, nothing too indecent but it can come close to that. Personality-wise, Yemi is bubbly and fun to be around, and loves to make friends with anyone. She is curious, adventurous, playful and cute. She loves to show compassion to anyone she meets or who she is friends with, and loves to make people laugh by acting in her own eccentric, Yemiish way. Despite all this, Yemi isn't all too good at her schoolwork and often misses or refuses to do assignments. Consequently, she relies on Asa to help her get them done, even though Asa also has her own work to do. Yemi is also not the smartest one of the bunch, and can repeatedly miss or interpret things wrong that she doesn't understand or comprehend. Surprisingly, this includes many adult-oriented references or colloquialisms. For example, when Tiwa asks her, "So, do you think you'll ever get it on with a guy this year?", she replies, "Get it on.... what? Get what on? Do you mean put his clothing on? Oh my god, no! That's disgusting! I'm not touching a guy's naked chest, iwwwww! What kind of person do you think I am, Tiwa? Stop it, stop it!" In spite of this, Yemi is very much loved amung her group of friends, and gets along with Asa very well. Yemi's favorite thing to do is go to parties along with Tiwa, however she does not ever want to do any sort of drug or drink, as she feels these kinds of things are "so so bad for you!" |
Hello all, For those of you who are profissiant or who know a lot about the Yoruba talking drum, also known as a gangan, would you mind telling me about the different parts of the drum and their proper Yoruba names? Note that I already know some stuff, but I don't know everything. Thanks! |
Naija has some awesome cultures! |
