So after the extra smooth POE experience, the temporary season of hunger games and eventual house swap, my lil one arrived early hours of this morning at wyckoff heights! Its a girl! ( thank God, didnt want any bruce/caitlyn jenner things after buying too much pink!) and it was through a VBAC too. God is indeed very faithful. I thank Him cos it has ended in praise!
Lol @ temporary season of hunger games...

hi people,
just realised i won't be able to carry more than 3K $ for my trip. People on this thread usually carry huge amounts (7-15K$)
do you think it's risky to have so little in cash and tell them that i have the rest on my cards (& don't like travelling with too much cash )
could they turn me back because of that ? undecided
I left with $1400(though I had paid my hospital fee)I had copies of my statement of accounts to prove i had the rest in my bank cards..a few people left with less than 7k...just be prayerful and be bold to defend ur self if the need arise...@shawbabe left with $40 cash

Wow, You are indeed blessed.

Sorry about your ordeal dear, even in your pregnant state,na wa o!
like Nefertitiram said in earlier post, stories like these make me keeping thanking God for my host and praying for her, she was my bestie in sec sch (now sister) I stayed with her for 4months in a one bedroom apartment, she left her bed for me all thru my stay and slept on the couch, she made me schedule all my docs appointments for 10/10:30am and drove me thru and fro b4 she left for work, whenever we went grocery shopping I insisted on paying half at least so as not to be living off her, though she refused sometimes, she cooked and stored food for me in her refrigerator, whenever she wasn't available, she got some1 to drive me shopping, though I did 90% of my shopping online( I did that in order not to stress her) she called me on her lunch break everyday she was at work just to be sure I was fine, we prayed together sometimes, when my hubby came she left her car for him for easy movement, I can go on and on,and to think she is still single and wasn't even jealous, when I was leaving, I was in tears cos she was just so good to me, I just kept praying for her, since I left in June, we talk almost everyday, staying with her made us closer, I just bless God for her,
You can say dat again, it's Gods favour

Modath thank you ooo. My situation is better imagined than experienced. I just woke up now to shouting, insults , lies and accusations. I had not even said my prayers. This is from my cousin and not even her mum. Apparently things i thought were squashed havent been. Yday my hubby was "priviledged" to hear her scolding me for ordering things here, he couldnt believe his hears. Its cos of my ordered items that im still here, but im begining to think i will forfeit them ( diapers and all). My new place wont be available till next week. Kai! What i didnt go through in naija. This is not to mention that ive been sleeping on the couch o. Anyway, they say hunger that has hope doesnt kill abi. Issorait, next week is here already.

Thanks to the likes of @Nerfertitiram aunty and a couple my friend told me of that housed her and vacated their one bedroom for her while they slept in the sitting room. People she was just meeting. We thank God for such people

For those who do not wanna open an account or hold cash...

Have u considered paying ur money into a Walmart card?
I wanted to use a walmart card during my stay in the us but I was advised that it's not safe cos of fraudulent activities, true or false I dint bother trying it

I opened a wells fargo checking account, it has a monthly charge of $10 but if u get to use ur card 10times in a month or u have a minimum of $300 per day, or a monthly balance of $1500, the charges won't apply.
I was advised to close the account when leaving to avoid the monthly charge and if I come to the states again, I can always open another one
I got a temporary ATM card on the same day, got my permanent card within 10 working days.

I would like to register my displeasure about this shipping coy.
Sometime in June 2015, we shipped some baby items(mostly baby gears) with this company with their air freight options, upon arrival of the goods we observed that a Gift card worth $150 was missing, (We were not informed that our goods will be taking out of their original boxes)we immediately notified their laurel office but nothing was done, I recently observed that some manuals and screw of the items we shipped where also not included in our package making tHe items totally useless. After spending $1200 for air freight fee, I dint expect this conduct from them., if you plan to use them goodluck, they totally unprofessional.

When I remember Nigerian embassy Washington Dc, I just keep laughing,I was there 2wks ago to get my baby's passport.
They accept scanned copy of concent letter, please go there with cash. you might need to buy a $30 money order if you haven't associated the passport fee(money order) with innovate1, that's besides the $30 processing fee.
I got my baby's passport the same day,
To expedite passport, you will write an application letter, stating why you want to expedite and then buy a $90 money order
One page photocopy cost $1
To print per page cost $10
For every money order you buy from them, you buy another $5 money order to process it.
Please note: preferred money order is the one from post office, they say it clears faster than the rest.

Congratulations and Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I must say you are one in a million! Many of us are ashamed to tell others our babies were delivered through C-Section. I am not sure if there is a cultural belief against C-section. I do know some of us are afraid other women will look down on us as lazy, weak, and unable to go through the pains of a normal birth. But the truth is normal delivery or not, it takes grace and strength from above to go through pregnancy and childbirth.

For mothers who have experienced the more advanced prenatal care and childbirth in the US, please advocate for our mothers who are not as privileged. It is going to take me, you, YES us, to play our part the high-rate of maternal and infant death around us.
Ashamed ke! I strongly believe my experience was a testimony( but won't bore u guys with the details), whoever says am lazy, weak, bla bla bla, Na them get their mouth! No one knows how ones delivery will be except God,as long as mum and baby are alive, we have be every reason to be thankful! I remember that day with tears rolling down my eyes and keep shouting thank you lord!

To the glory of God had my baby boy on the 29th of April, delivery resulted in an emergency C section during induction process, the response time was second to non. Left Nigeria @32weeks with an uncomplicated pregnancy, got to us to find out I had some issues, but I thank God. I can't imagine if I had chosen to have my baby in naija, had a friend that lost her baby due to the neligence of the doctor in Nigeria 3wks ago, another lost her life during childbirth in lagos 3wks ago too but baby survived.
Besides the blue passport and the the future benefit for the child, one is sure of getting the best in terms of medical care.
Aspa budget please have a contingency plan, I ended up paying more,( I put 3k aside just in case I had to pay more)

I wish all the the expectant mums safe delivery.

[quote author=aolatunde00 post=31371488]I hope my experience helps someone.
I got my first Us visa is 2006.It was valid for two years but I used it just once spending just 7days.
In April 2008 hubby and I applied again and we were both given.By then I was pregnant though not visibly. The VO was really nice and the only thing close to pregnancy that he mentioned was when he asked if we had any plans to make use of any medical aids in the Us and we said no.
September 2008 I embarked on my journey to the U.S. and hubby was to join me some weeks later.Thinking I was doing myself a favor,I travelled with BA but made the massive mistake of having BWI as my point of entry.
The immigration lady had stamped me in only for me to pick up my luggage and then this border control guy called me aside.
See interrogation! He harassed me ehn!told me he was tired of liars coming into his country and spoiling it.made me lift and open my two heavy bags then he personally wheeled them away saying I was going back that same night to Lagos.he was breathing fire and brimstone.
Visibly upset and repeatedly cursing under his breath. He tried to call all the numbers he saw with me hoping something fishy would turn up but none did.

Sorry about your experience at BWI, Did you dclear your intention to the first officer that stamped you in?

i came in thru BWI 2wks ago, with my heart in mouth, as I had not heard any Poe story about the airport. When I was 18wks pregnant, I came in thru BWI, my reason for the trip then was vacation and I told the CBP and he stamped me in for 6months barely asking me questions so I decided to use there again. This time when I told the officer that the reason for my trip was for child birth, I was taken to another room for interview, showed the officer my docs appointment letter, my hospital receipt, my ticket itinerary, letter I sent to the embassy, statement of account cos I had just $1412. After viewing them, he told me he appreciates the fact I was honest about my intentions, and it is legal to come have my baby here, and they have no right to return you. but that a lot of people lie and that's where the problem lies, and further went on to say if I have got any friends coming to have their baby here, they should be honest about their intentions and they will be fine. And he stamped me in for 6 months.at 31wks I was not even visibly pregnant and I wore a loose top cos the CbP looked at me when I told him my purpose of visit, and was like how far gone are you?

Congrats to all the new mums, may God almighty bless and keep the little ones, Amen

Want to share my POE experience In my own little way of giving back to this wonderful thread and to the benefit of others who r yet to travel.

I left nigeria on Friday with BA, arrived London 4.20am London time, I had a stopover of almost 10hrs, wanted to enter London but changed my mind last minute, I am member of heathrows loyalty program, so I had 8 hrs free internet access(wifi), that kept me busy till I went to board my flight to Baltimore @ 14:00 London time. It was supposed to be an 8hr flight but spent 9 hrs due to the snowy weather, landed in Baltimore Washington International @ 6:40 eastern time by this time I was tired, the queue wasn't long, most of the people on the flights were Americans, they were cleared instantly, this made the non citizen queue move faster. It got to my turn and the conversation went thus.

CBP: hello, how r you doing?
Me: am good
CBP: what's your nationality?
Me: Nigerian
CBP: why r you here
Me: my maternity leave and to have my baby
CBP: can you say that again
Me: my maternity leave and to have my baby
CBP: why do you want to have your baby here
Me: for better health care
CBP: health care at home is bad right
Me: yes
CBP: how long do you intend to stay
Me 12wks
CBP: when are you due
Me: April

She scanned my finger print and my eye details and then asked me to come with her, I was taking to a room where I met about 5 people( 4 Indians and one ther white guy) later on a Nigerian man was brought in, after 20mins, a CBP officer came in, he kept typing on his computer for a while, he then calls on the elderly Indian couple, asked them some questions and they were released, he leaves the room again for another 10mins, attends to another 2 Indian guys and released them afterwards, Then we were 3 left, I just kept asking God for FAVOUR, the two guys were released and I became the only one left, by this time I had spent close to an hour, he then calls me

CBP: how r you doing?
Me: am good
CBP: why are you here
Me: my maternity leave and to have my baby
CBP: how much cash do you have on you?
Me: $1412, I have paid my hospital bill
CBP: do you have a proof of payment
Me: yes, hands over the receipt to him, and told him I was yet to pay my doctors fee
CBP: do you have a doctors appointment?
Me: yes, I gave it to him
CBp how old is your pregnancy?
Me: 31weeks
CBP: how long do u intend to stay
Me: 12wks
CBP: how long where you here on your last trip
Me: 14days
He noticed I had a lot of papers with me, he asked me to give him everything and goes thru them( I had my hospital estimated bill, my doctors appointment letter, the email I sent to the embassy, the response I got from them, a printed copy of my return ticket, a printed copy of my statement of account.
He asked if I had a doctors letter from nigeria, I left that in my hand luggage, and it was checked in @ heathrow so I told him,
CBp: what does your husband do
Me: told him
CBP: what do you do?
Me: xyz
He then goes on to say, he cant tell me much cos he can see I know a lot already based on the email I sent to the embassy, and he appreciates the fact that I was truthful about my intentions. He told me its legal to come have your baby in America and they have no right to return you if that's the reason you here, but that a lot of people come and lie and that's where the problem lies. Lastly he said if I've got any friend coming for same purpose, I should tell them to say the truth and they will be fine.
He admits me in for 6months and wishes me a safe delivery.
I went to baggage claim and then to agriculture, I declared all the food items I had, just my indomie and beans was seized.

I wore compression socks, it helped a lot.

1) 16 weeks is too early for you to go and stay till delivery considering u be stamped in for a max period of 6months
2) even if you succeed in covering up ur pregnancy now, on your next trip or when you decided to renew ur visa, the truth will come out. It happened to my my friend, she concealed her pregnancy the first time she went, on her second trip, the immagration officer asked her why she lied on her first trip and why she dint declare at the embassy she was pregnant during her interview, she was detained @ Huston for 8 hrs
With the baby she had on her first trip.
3) another friend of mine did exactly wat you intend to do and ended up spending 7 and a half months, she was stamped in for 6months, her baby dint come in time,
In all it pays to be honest with your intentions.
To the lady that was returned from Chicago, thanks for sharing your story, sorry about ur ordeal, every disappointment is a blessing, the lord Is your strength.

You know you should apologise for misconstruing her post. No need to be defensive. You seem to always be in the attack mode. You should really take a chill pill. People here are not kids that should be schooled, albeit harshly.

And yes! She has EVERY right to be annoyed with the Dr! Her complaints are not unfounded. She asked for the total cost prior to her delivery and that test never came up. Why turn around and include the test much later and still not even tell her how much that will cost?

And yes! I (and many others) are after the blue pali. The good healthcare is a plus. No shame in that. No need to get all sentimental. If we wanted just good healthcare, we have options.

Again, until you walk in her shoes, refrain from being all judgemental.
My thoughts exactly!

Hi fehinebony, when's the new price gonna take effect cos m in Montgomery already but my first appointment with the Dr is first week in January and so ve nt been to the hospital. How did u get to know about the price review though? Urgent reply pls
My dear, the new price took effect since Dec 15th,was shocked when I spoke to the accountant yesterday.. If it's your first visit to the hospital, you ll have to pay the new price. They felt cos of the numerous calls, they were the best in town, so the price increase was an option for them, little do they know that they just lost more prospective patients. Since you are there already, you can visist them and hear what they have to say, the only alternative you have in Montgomery is Baptist east and south, which is $2700 per night and $2000 for baby's fee. Heard there is a cheaper hospital in Birmingham, it's about 2hrs away from Montgomery.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by fehinebony(f): 10:48pm On Dec 29, 2014
Jackson Hospital Montgomery alabama has reviewed their hospital fee, it used to be $2900 for a 48hrs stay(virginal birth), it's now $6000, reason for increase is cos they have been getting to many foreign calls for enquiry so they decided to review their price. So if you are heading to jackson cos of the previous price, you might want to reconsider.

Yea it's just 4hrs drive from Atlanta. So I'm thinking going there closer to delivery and retuning to atlanta after birth. But I need to make sure the hospital's standard is good and the cheap package they're offering is worth me carrying myself there.
Was @ Montgomery alabama 2wks ago, visited Jackson hospital, and took a tour round the mother and child section, the delivery room is very nice, heard the delivery suite is larger and finer than that of baptist east &south.the nursery is also nice as well, I dint get to visit baptist, cos I settled for Jackson as my inlaw had 2 of her kids there and she told she preferred jackson to any other hospital in Montgomery, she lives in Montgomery and she is a nurse, so I went with what she recommended.
