Phones / Youtube To Upgrade Offline Video Quality"favour Smartphone With FHD by felasey1(m): 9:08am On Feb 12, 2019
Watching videos has never been this luxurious compared to other ‘generations’ of internet. Today you have the privilege of downloading videos for offline viewing, you enjoy your favorite content even if you are away from Wi-Fi or your connectivity is giving you a dancing signals or you just don’t have the data bundles.

You can download a video in various quality sizes, ranging from 144p to 720p being the highest. 720p is good enough for most people but in some cases where you are used to streaming in 1080p and you have a 1080p screen, that 720p video is not sharp enough.

Now, our fate is about to change. Android police says that YouTube wants to tighten that belt a little bit, while preparing to up the quality on the offline YouTube videos.

Thanks to them tearing down the YouTube Android app (v 14.06), they have found a new string that shows that they are going to add a new option to download videos in 1080p resolution.

You can probably expect YouTube to put a limit on such an option. If your phone doesn’t have a full HD screen or better, you might not get the option. This makes sense since watching videos of a higher resolution than the screen is pointless if you don’t have enough pixels. It could also be limited to those phones that can easily play 1080p videos and in this age, most phones can.

This is a good deal, especially for those people with infinix smartphones that come with screen resolutions greater than 1080p

Phones / 5 Tips To Secure You Smart Devices & IOT Devices by felasey1(m): 8:43am On Jan 18, 2019
When you are busy living, you can do something that can be a little easier and more convenient for you. So, with the latest Internet Things (IOT) devices sitting outside your home can be a seductive possibility.

Let’s look at how to keep your network of IoT devices safe.
Heating your home, controlling the lights, turning on the oven and starting up your washing machine can all be done remotely from your phone or computer when you aren’t there.

This is known as the Internet of Things and it is growing rapidly, spurred on by a culture that demands digital connectivity and smart devices that can be applied to all areas of life.

Whilst this level of connectivity is great, there are some major drawbacks that you need to be aware of. Without proper management and security, your smart home full of connected IoT devices can become a living nightmare if it is targeted by hackers.

5 Ways to Secure Your Family of IoT Devices
If you haven’t done any of these things yet or haven’t at least checked your devices over to ensure they meet the following points, then you should do so right away if you use a lot of smart devices.

1. Start With Your Router
Your router is the ‘front door’ to your smart home. Just like your physical front door, your router’s front door should be secured with solid locks. You never know who’s going to come knocking.

A secure smart home, therefore, starts with your router. It is the hub that connects all your devices to the IoT and enables them to operate. Most people use the router that their ISP provided them with, however, it’s always best to invest in a router that is better and offers a higher degree of security as standard.

There is nothing wrong with using the router your ISP provided, but it’s not going to be massively secure.

2. Create a Secondary or ‘Guest’ Network
You can create multiple networks on your Wi-Fi router. This is mostly used to create kids’ networks with parental controls or guest networks for visitors. You may want to create an additional network that is solely for connecting your IoT devices to. By doing this, you prevent potential hackers from accessing sensitive data, shared files and other bits and pieces from your other devices if they breach your network.

All your Wi-Fi router’s networks should be secured with a strong encryption method and robust password. For routers, the standard and most secure encryption method is called WPA2. This should always be used, even for guest networks.

For passwords, avoid things that are common and easy to guess. A strong password is composed of letters, numbers, and symbols, and each network should have a unique one. You can use a password manager to help you remember them all. Never use your router’s default username and password.

Creating a secondary and tertiary network is easy , and most routers let you do this through a user-friendly GUI.

3. Check Your IoT Device Settings and Keep Them Updated
Your IoT device probably comes with default security settings and you may want to consider changing them. Not all manufacturers have your best interests in mind and the default settings may work to benefit them more than you.

Using an IoT device with a default password? Change it!
Additionally, check that you don’t have features enabled that you don’t need. For example, remote and microphone access might not be required, however, network access will be. This depends on the device and its purpose.

Avoid putting off software updates as these are often patches for security vulnerabilities. Many IoT devices will prompt you when an update is available, but it’s good due diligence to check manufacturer websites often.

4. Enable Two-Factor Authentication
If any of your devices offer two-factor authentication , use it. Two-factor authentication is an additional security layer on top of a device’s password that requires secondary authentication—a one-time code sent via email or SMS—before access is granted.

When used properly, two-factor authentication can stop the bad guys gaining access to your accounts and taking control of your IoT devices.

5. Disable UPnP Features
IoT devices tend to have Universal Plug in and Play(UPnP) features, enabling different devices to find and connect to one another. Whilst this is convenient and eliminates the need to configure each device individually, the protocols rely on local networks to connect to each other and these are vulnerable to third-party attackers.

When an attack occurs, UPnP lets multiple devices be accessed at the same time. It’s far safer to just disable it and configure your devices manually.

Nobody’s Going to Manage Security for You
Staying one step ahead of attackers and securing your network of IoT devices comes with the territory; it is the price you pay for convenience and benefiting from what IoT devices have to offer. Securing your devices isn’t difficult and it is something you absolutely must be doing if you want a comprehensive smart home network.

That's all for today. Thanks for reading

EMMAUGOH:
U guys should stop this argument abeg...there is a reason why all internal memory are usually incomplete both in laptop's once an operating system installed. Part of the internal storage are used as the Rom or considered as the Rom where the OS and other user or third-party apps are installed. For Our android its known as the Emmc and its not same as the ram. That's why you can remove an hadrive from a particular laptop, slot it into another laptop (even different make) and still get every configuration and files intact in the new laptop. Same thing on a phone, if I pull out an Emmc from a particular phone and install into another phone with same configuration.. the highest error i can get its encryption unsuccessful and that's the ram showing such which means I should format my new emmmc or internal memory to work with the ram.

Till today you can run an Android device through a memory card and it will run perfectly.

The ram is just a use and dump memory, or what ever they call it, an operating memory. It doesnt save or retain files. Once you close an app it cut ties with ram and remain in the Rom waiting for another execution.

Then the internal memory can be can be compared to memory card..you can format them in an format they would still access files.. what they store actually are non operating files..since android 6.0 all core files are stored in the Rom which is carved out from the entire internal memory or emmc. So even when u click format in your phone internal memory, it can only format your non operating files and never your Installed apps.

Whats confusing the guy is just partition understanding..

You apps are store in a partition inside your Emmc, internalstorage,Rom or whatever you call it and never in your ram. Only certain core apps execution are permanently opened in the ram,and that's why even without opening any apps our ram is always depleted.

My one cent

Phones / How To Send Whatsapp Message To A Person Not On Your Phone Contact List by felasey1(m): 1:58pm On Jan 15, 2019
You can obviously use several third party apps but none of them would be as secure as WhatsApp. Third party apps can install malaware and put your phones security at risk.

There is no dearth of messaging apps but the way WhatsApp has captured India's imagination is unprecedented. WhatsApp is about ease of sending and receiving messages and that alone makes the Facebook owned platform the most popular app across the globe, especially in India.

Sending a simple text message or an image or a video is as easy as adding the contact number to the phone's contact, writing the text or attaching the file and hitting send! But, it is not always that you want to save a contact. For example, the number of a person who isn't close to you or someone who you won't message often! Saving their numbers would give them access to your WhatsApp profile, display picture etc! So, what's the way out?

You can obviously use several third party apps but none of them would be as secure as WhatsApp. Third party apps can install malware and put your phones security at risk. Therefore, it is advisable to stay away from such apps. Actually, WhatsApp already has a feature which allows you to send a message to a person without saving his/her contact information. Just follow the below mentioned steps to chat with anyone, without saving their contact information or using any shady third party application. The method is secure and it won't compromise your phone or data.

Open any browser on your smartphone

Type or copy this link in the address bar: https:///send?phone=number
Enter the phone number of the person you want to message in the place of 'number' in the link
Do not forget to add the country code before the number
Press 'Enter'
WhatsApp window will open and asking for confirmation. Just press 'send'.

A new WhatsApp chat window would open for that unsaved contact. Chat on!

Don't say battery university to look right. After 100% the connection or charge that's going to your phone is cut. There is only a voltage and not current passing (no watts). No matter how long you charge or keep your phone plugged in after reaching 100% it won't affect the battery's lifetime as smartphones are designed to stop the charge at 100% and it doesn't hurt the battery at all. There will not be an deterioration. Please do your research before posting threads... Cheers mate. xD

Phones / 8 Great Reasons To Use Night Mode by felasey1(m): 10:05am On Jan 11, 2019
1 Sleep Better
Want something that wakes you up better than caffeine? Just use your phone, tablet, or computer. Yes, the blue light emitted from those devices could be just as effective as drinking a cup of coffee. The short wavelength of blue light that comes from your devices signals your brain to wake up. Of course, that doesn’t always help during those midday slumps.

However, by enabling night mode on your devices, you take away the blue light. This allows your brain to to go back to your natural circadian rhythms and help you fall asleep faster and deeper. Of course, avoiding using your devices before bed works too, but most of us are guilty of checking emails, Facebook, and other apps before bed.

While some blue light is good and even necessary, overexposure is never good.

2 Reduce Dry Eye
If you’re using your devices for hours every day, night mode could save you from having to reach for eye drops throughout the day. The brighter light actually causes your eyes to dry out. By having a dimmer, red-toned light, it’s less harsh on your eyes. Think of blue light filters (or night modes) as the same as wearing sunglasses when going out in the sun.

In addition to enabling this feature, make yourself look away from your devices every few minutes for at least 10-15 seconds to give your eyes a break.

3 Reduce Eye Strain
Do your eyes feel gritty and even hurt sometimes? Too much blue light actually affects your eyes beyond just drying them out. Imagine looking at the sun behind clouds. Look too long and your eyes and head hurt. Eye strain is common with 65% of Americans reporting symptoms.

The same thing happens with your devices. Stare at your phone while scrolling through Facebook long enough and your eyes are going to feel strained. While blinking helps, filtering out the blue light helps even more. Reduce your eye strain and you’ll also reduce the headaches that come along with it.

4 Prevent Retinal Damage
Do you live on your phone, tablet, or computer? If so, you could be at risk for more than just eye strain. In fact, extremely heavy device users may be at risk for macular degeneration, which can cause blurry vision or even blindness. It’s an irreversible disease.

Blue light can be toxic to photoreceptor cells and once they’re damaged, they don’t repair themselves or grow back.

It’s important to note that this is still being studied and currently, studies show this only occurs with extreme use. For the average user, blue light from your devices won’t blind you, but it may make your eyes uncomfortable.

5 Reduce Risk of Depression, Diabetes, and Cardiovascular Issues
If you’re using your devices at night, all the blue light could affect far more than just your sleep. In fact, if you’re not sleeping enough, you could be at a much higher risk for depression, diabetes, and cardiovascular issues. Obesity is also a potential problem.

According to WebMD, 90% of people with insomnia (which can occur with regular late night blue light exposure) also have another major health condition. Once again, blue light isn’t all bad, and in moderate amounts can be good for your health. However, by using smartphones and tablets all the time, you get a much higher dose of blue light than your body needs.

6 Improve Battery Life
Night mode doesn’t just help with your health. It’s also great for improving battery life on your devices. While there isn’t a set percentage you’ll save, night mode and blue light filters automatically dim the screen at least a little to reduce the strain on your eyes from screen brightness and blue light.

As a result, you get to use your devices longer between charges. Just remember, even with night mode on, you should still take regular breaks to prevent problems due to sitting too long or staring at a screen without blinking too long.

7 Keep Your Device Cooler
Much like with improving battery life, night mode can potentially keep your device cooler. A bright screen heats up your device faster. If you’re using it for longer periods, enabling night mode helps reduce the brightness to optimal levels.

Not only will your eyes thank you, but your device doesn’t get as hot as fast. Of course, other things, such as apps or viruses, may cause your phone or tablet to heat up more than it should as well.

8 Boost Your Mood
Natural blue light during the day helps to regulate mood and circadian rhythms (important for proper sleep). When you’re using your devices in the evenings and before bed, you disrupt your natural rhythms and your body’s ability to correctly regulate mood, including ability to handle stress.Teens and young adults, those who have spent most of their lives using tech devices, are starting to show an increase in mood disorders and blue light is partially to blame. By enabling night mode on all your devices, you’re taking back some control over your body’s natural mood regulation.

Phones / The Correct Way To Charge Your Mobile Phone - We've Been Doing It Wrong by felasey1(m): 8:36am On Jan 10, 2019
We are all accustomed to plugging our phones in to charge them up next to our beds before we go to sleep.

It helps make sure you wake up with a device ready to go and one which will last throughout the day, or until lunch-time at least depending on how many apps you are using.

But, apparently, this isn't the right way to charge your phone and help its battery life prosper.

a company that offers devices that test smartphone and other batteries, runs a free educational website called battery university,
offers a host of tips for prolonging the life of your phone.

Don't let your phone run out before you plug it in

We're often told that you should fully deplete your battery before you charge it right back up again.

Again, this isn't ideal.

According to the experts, a "deep-discharge" where you run it down to a fraction of its power is actually bad for batteries and will wear them out quicker.

Charge your phone little and often

We're all used to plugging in our mobiles for the long, overnight charge.

But it turns out that juicing up frequently and in small doses might actually be the best option for your battery's health.
It doesn't matter if you only charge up 10% or 20% as, according to Battery University: "artial charges cause no harm."
Keep your phone's battery between 65% and 75%

It turns out there's an optimal point to maintain your phone's power - kind of like the optimal speed limit for burning gas and covering distance in a car.

According to the team at Battery University, the sweet spot is between 65% and 75% of your battery's full charge.
Best keep that power pack handy

Never fully charge your battery

This one might seem a bit counter-intuitive - but it appears that you should never charge your phone up to 100%.

That's because modern lithium-ion batteries do "not need to be fully charged, nor is it desirable to do so."
The website states: "In fact, it is better not to fully charge, because a high voltage stresses the battery".

You don't need to remove the charger when it's full

If you do decide to ignore the point above, the good news is that you don't have to remove the phone after you've hit 100%.

Battery University points out that the charger automatically turns off when it hits 100% so you're not doing any extra damage by leaving it connected to your device.

That being said, if you're not doing the battery any good by keeping it at 100%, it might be best to leave it alone overnight.

Phones / How Much Power Does The Fingerprint Scanner On A Smartphone Consume? by felasey1(m): 2:35pm On Jan 09, 2019
They eat 150mA peak current, and 120mA when reading. They are not always active, only when the phone is expecting an authentication.
They are never alone, but packaged with a capacitative touch sensor, so when the touch is triggered the fingerprint sensor starts reading.
Infinix smartphones vibrate when a successful fingerprint reading is achieved. This kind of feedback uses more current than the sensor itself!

Compared to other subsystems in a phone like Wi-Fi(300mA peak), screen(100–400mA continuous) and bluetooth low energy(15mA continuous), the fingerprint scanner is NOT an energy hungry sensor.

Phones / 6 Useful Android Settings You Might Have Overlooked by felasey1(m): 9:57am On Dec 17, 2018
If you’ve been an Android user for several years, you might think you know the Android settings menu inside out. After all, there’s no way you’d have accidentally overlooked a useful option, right?

Unfortunately, you probably have overlooked something. These days, the Android settings menu is a sprawling maze of menu and sub-menus. It’s hard to find the more obscure options.

But which of the settings you’ve overlooked are useful, and which can live on in peaceful obscurity? Let’s find out. (Depending on your device’s manufacturer, some of these settings might not be available.)

1. Screen Magnification

Do you ever come across a really small font or tiny picture while you’re browsing the web?

If you’re using a browser on a desktop machine, it’s easy to zoom in and take a closer look. And, of course, Windows and macOS both offer a robust set of accessibility tools.

On mobile, it’s a different story. Some web pages allow you to use the pinch-to-zoom gesture, whereas others aren’t compatible with the feature. It all depends on how the site is coded.

Android offers a solution. Open the Settingsapp and navigate to Accessibility > System > Magnification Gesture and slide the toggle into the On position.

When enabled, triple-tap the screen to zoom in, and navigate by dragging two fingers around the display. You can adjust the level of zoom by pinching. Triple-tap again to return to the standard view.

Alternatively, triple-tap the screen and keep your finger pressed down on the third tap. It will temporarily zoom the screen until you release your finger.

2. Invert Screen Colors

The accessibility menu offers a couple of other useful features that we’ll look at. Firstly, let’s check out how to invert your screen’s colors.

For someone with a visual impairment, this has obvious advantages. But it’s also useful for everyone else.

Just think, how many times have you wished an app had a “dark” theme? And how many times have you given yourself sore eyes because you’ve used a bright screen in a dark room? Sure, there are third-party apps that can alter your screen’s color temperature, but this is an easy-to-use native alternative.

To invert your Android’s screen, open the Settings app and go to Accessibility > Display > Color Inversion. Slide the toggle into the On position to get started.

Using the feature has a couple of caveats. Firstly, your device may not perform as efficiently. Secondly, there’s no shortcut -– you’ll have to go into the Settings menu every time you want to enable or disable the inversion.

3. Add More Printing Services

Occasionally, it’s useful to be able to print a document from your smartphone. Perhaps you forgot an important letter or need to produce a copy of your ID.

Google Cloud Print has been part of the Android operating system for a long time. However, despite being a long-term feature, the service doesn’t feel solid. Print jobs often fail, and if you’re using an old printer, adding it into the app is a painstaking process.

Luckily, you can easily add more printers to your devices. Plugins are available from all the leading printer manufacturers, including HP, Brother, Canon, Xerox, and Epson. There are also a few cross-printer third-party apps to choose from.

To add a printer plugin, go to Settings > Printing > Add Service. A list of all the available plugins will appear. To add one to your phone, tap on the icon and click Install.

4. Make Passwords Visible

If you follow proper security etiquette, your password should be long, use a mix of numbers and letters, include uppercase and lowercase characters, and use some special characters.

On paper, that sounds great. In practice, it’s annoying –- especially on a mobile device. It takes a long time to enter it when you’re using an on-screen keyboard. Worse yet, you don’t even know if you made an error; your phone typically obscures your password using stars or dots.

If you find that you have to constantly re-enter passwords due to typos, this setting could be for you. Enabling it will mean your password will be visible on-screen in plain text.

To make all your passwords visible, go to Settings > Security > Passwords > Make passwords visible and slide the toggle into the On position.

Warning: This setting has obvious security implications. If you enable it, make sure nobody is looking over your shoulder when using your online banking or other sensitive services.

5. Set Your Billing Cycle

Although the general global trend is towards an unlimited data allowance on your cell phone contract, there are many carriers –- especially in the United States — that restrict your allowance.

If you go over your allowance, you’ll either be forced to pay out for an expensive add-on to keep you online, or you’ll receive a shock when your bill arrives.

If you set your billing cycle, you can monitor how much data you’re using over the 30-day period and adjust your usage accordingly.

To set up your bill date, go to Settings > Data Usage > Billing cycle > Billing cycle. In this menu, you can also choose whether you receive warnings when you get close to your limit, and even disable mobile data entirely if you go over it.

To see how much data you have used in a given period, tap on Mobile data usage. You’ll be able to see a neat graph that shows you which days your usage was unusually light or heavy.

6. Touch and Hold Delay

For the final setting, we head back to the Accessibility menu. Did you know it was possible to change how much time you need to hold your finger down for during a “long press”?

If you frequently find yourself needing access to the copy and paste context menu, setting the time to the shortest available option is a huge time saver.

To make your selection, open the Settings app and navigate to Accessibility > System > Touch and hold delay. You can choose from Short, Medium, or Long.

Phones / Are The Mid-range Smartphones Getting Closer To Flagships? by felasey1(m): 3:25pm On Dec 06, 2018
What makes the mid-range smartphones be more desirable than the latest flagship devices these days?

I can say we all love the flagship phones, from the premium finishes and good looks to the high-end specs.

Apart from the extreme pricing that’s limits the number of people that can actually afford the phones, it seems that even people who can afford the flagship devices end up buying the mid-range devices especially in this recent years.

So what makes the mid-range devices so special that one would choose it over a premium flagship device for daily use?

I have a rough idea on why that would be the case..

Convenience.
As we’ve seen in the recent releases of mid-range phones, the one thing that they excel in better than the flagship phones is the battery life. For example the Infinix note 5 will give you up-to 3 days battery life compared to any flagship phone which can barely handle a full day of regular usage. Now I know I don't want to have to carry a power bank around with me whenever I'm out travelling or I when I know I wont be near any power source for a while, so the first thing I would want to have is a phone with good battery life.

Cheap
The price of the device is pretty much the most obvious factor, but I’m not only talking about the cost of buying the phone, but also the cost of repairing it. If you dropped the Pixel 2 for example and broke the screen, we all know how much it would cost to replace the screen. For most of the mid-range devices however, it's different case, first of all it might not even brake since most mid-range devices go for the plastic finish rather than glass which is more fragile, but they still manage to make it look and feel premium even with the plastic finish it would hard to notice the difference in my opinion.

Apart from that the overall performance of a mid-range smartphone would very much suffice for your daily usage, the camera has improved, and many mid-range phones have dual cameras too, packing at least 3gb or 4gb ram which isn’t so bad unless you’re a heavy user or plan to have the device for gaming but it isn’t that bad either.

The phones barely have any lag except for when playing heavy games but they still fare well, although the flagships would still be a better option for gaming or photography.

What do you think, would you go for a flagship or a mid-range smartphone? I Know I would choose both.

Phones / Hints On How To Win The Samsung Galaxy S8 by felasey1(m): 10:01am On Nov 27, 2018
Here are step by step tips on how to Win the Samsung Galaxy S8 Treasure Hunt- Black Friday Deal.

1: Be Time conscious: The treasure hunt is strictly first come first serve, to win this device, you need to be extremely fast at checking for it.
2: Don't use the search option: Using the search option is only a waste of time. The device would never be found via search, the name of the previously won Iphone XS Mas were 'Everywhere Stew' and 'i've been waiting for you' so there is no way you will be able to have an idea of what the name of the next one would be.
3. Image remains the same: For no reason would the image of the product be changed, just keep looking for the image.
4. Filter: Under probability will filter help you in locating this device, filter was used in locating it in 2017 Treasure hunt according to the article published and the first iPhone XS Max treasure hunt this year, so i advice you try with filter first, then later try without filter.
5. Watch the Live video: At exactly 12:00AM, Jumia will start a live video on their social media platform giving hints of how to locate these devices on their App.
6. Focus on the App: For no reason would Jumia upload any treasure hunt device on their website. It is only available on the Application.
7. Use the proper Link: The official link to the category will be published on the treasure hunt page which can be found on the home page slider jumia.com
8. Setup Fast order before you commence: Before you commence the search, first setup your address and payment details so as to order it as fast as you locate it.
9. Setup a standard account: Make sure you don't use nickname for your account name because after ordering the product, social media verification and physical appearance at the office will be required.
10. Check if device is still available or its gone: Immediately the device is ordered by anyone, Jumia will update the treasure hunt landing page for the product as 'gone' which simply means the device is ordered!

Wish you Goodluck!.

KingAzari:
I lost my respect for Infinix as a brand after Davido, their brand ambassador, was seen promoting iphone and Infinix could not say anything about it. They have inferiority complex and so are their products. Apple would have cancelled that dude's contract if it was to be the other way round. I threw away my Infinix SP after that incident.
