Business / Re: Entire Computer Village Shut Down Over Tax by felele(m): 11:34pm On Dec 03, 2008
When people run out of ideas, like dlox01 clearly has, they resort to personal abuse and irrational behaviour. Witness his riposte to my earlier post:

I find that it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth, when I see a government headed by Fashola doing this. But then again, why am I angry? Fashola WAS Tinubu's Chief-of-Staff for quite a few years, and would have been privy to the wanton looting of public coffers and the state's resources that was perpetrated by Tinubu. Heck, how do we know he didn't partake of it sef?

ur right how DO we know he DID??do u have your facts??don't start running ur mouth on weak foundation, how do i know u are not one of the people that looted with tinubu??

All this clamour for people to pay their tax is a bit rich, coming from the Chief-of-Staff of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, self-styled Governor Emeritus of Lagos, who is still taking his 10% cut from every naira people pay into the coffers of Lagos state, whether as tax, C of O fees, Stamp duties, planning fees, market levies, development levies, LASTMA fines and so on. And he is apparently doing this through Alpha Beta Consulting, which is owned by Tinubu through proxies.

U really need to attend Tax seminars and brush up on your fundamentals of tax, because what you have coated is out of context,Tinubu cannot get 10% of everybodies naira.i don't have time to lecture u now but please stop showing off your stupidity with your alpha beta consulting.

Another reason why I might not be inclined to support this action is because the public works going on now are heavily loaded in favour of, yes, you guessed it, Bola Ahmed Tinubu again!! This is because the Chaghoury's are his partners in a number of construction firms, including Hi Tech, which "won" the contract for the expansion of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, and several other contracts around the state. Also include ITB in that list, as well as Palmyra, all Chaghoury companies in which Tinubu has a huge stake, and of course, not to forget the sale of Lagos State's stake in the Eko Hotel group to the same Chaghoury's, supervised by, yes, you guessed it, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

u are a retard, Lagos is way too big for a singular person to own everything.you take alook around u,theres more to be done dan just lekki express way and eko hotel, the worlds richest man did not do lekki express way o,think very well, the person that impacted on his people the most dint build a road,u have to pick yourself up and think of something to do because i can sence a pour of helplessness in ur statement

So, while some actions of Fashola are commendable, including but not limited to, the beautification of Lagos roads, rather than their rehabilitation, I will not follow anyone blindly to canonise a governor because he is at least pretending to do his job. [b]I'm more interested in resultsmention what he has endulged in and u have not seen results. I painfully witnessed the idolisation of Tinubu over a period of 8 years of unbridled corruption, executive laziness and lawlessness (the emasculation of the local government tier of government in Tinubu's time, cleverly disguised as a creation of more local governments, comes to mind, with agencies like LAWMA, LASAA and ideas like the Land Use Charge, which basically take away constitutionally guaranteed sources of income for the Local Governments - a direct VIOLATION OF THE CONSTITUTION) of his government, please what constitution?which one said it was wrong for the government to create agencies?quote, while also observing the ignorance of our people, who hailed that drug-addled charlatan at every turn, jeun soke baba!!

The result after 8 years, compared to Jakande's 4 years in a more austere time for Nigeria (Lekki-Epe Expressway was constructed by Jakande in that time), is there for all to see:

Area Boys rule - like MTN, they are everywhere you go, at the market, collecting money from poor, hard-working Alaaru's, on the roads, dressed up as LASTMA or Man-o-war, or not dressed up at all, just collecting money from motorists and motor-cyclists alike, and Marwa had gotten rid of them!!

Bad roads, everywhere. Never mind the re-construction of Obafemi Awolowo Road, IkoyiMIND it o because na money them use build am no be free, which took ages, and only takes care of the richest in societyhave u steped or driven on that road??if yes, that would mean u are either Rich or that road isnt sevicing the rich alone!! the reconstruction of Gerard through to Bourdillon (where Tinubu lives) and Lagos Island roads, which are not really as useful anymore, since Tinubu's area boys chased all really big business away from there, save for a paltry few.

Everywhere else is bad, with a capital B.thatz for you

And Fashola is closing markets, as if it's not bad enough already, closing with a reasonPAY UR TAXES. He really should be careful, because when you create unemployment, the unemployed must eat somehow. Crime went up in Lekki peninsula when the sand-mining on Ado Road was stopped. I predict a massive rise in crime in Ikeja, due to the closure of Computer village, which will be nothing compared to the number of criminals that will be created from the closure of Alaba International Market.

I am Yoruba, Lagos indigene, and I appeal to Fashola to reconsider these closures AS A MATTER OF URGENCY, for Lagos was built on trade, and if people cannot trade anymore, due to draconian and militaristic actions of government, Lagos will DIE.there are states all over the world built on trade my friend, tokyo japan is one n they are structured n pay tax, computer village and alaba is not in anyway greater
People like u just want Free, FREE FOOD FREE EDUCATION FREE MONEY FREE LIFE FREE DEATH JUST FREE FREEEEEEEEEE, EVERYTHIGN IN LIFE COMES WITH A PRICE TAG!!!GO AND PAY UR TAX AND SHUT UP!!!

Replete with the kind of language and warped logic that we have now come to identify with Tinubu and his co-travellers, his reply FAILS woefully to address the issue. He instead wants to drag this important matter into the gutter. Sorry, Mr dlox01, I'm not going there.

Instead, my reply goes thus:

I can provide you with evidence that Alpha Beta Consulting IS skimming off of the levies and fees we've been paying to the Lagos State government since the advent of Tinubu, and until today. I can, if you want, also provide evidence linking Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the said Alpha Beta. If you would like that, I can provide it anonymously in this public forum, and everyone will be able to check the facts out for themselves, because I will lay bare where the facts can be obtained.

You accuse me of running my mouth. Have you considered that the reason Tinubu dribbled all the party faithful to install Fashola is because Fashola is privy to ALL his atrocities, and being so inured to them, will not be shocked at all. Heck, he helped perpetrate some of them. You can start with Royal Gardens Estate, Ajah. Find out who the owners of Trojan Estates Ltd are, and you will see a clear trail to you-know-who.

Should I also discuss herein the little matter of the ILLEGAL transfer of state property to himself through 3rd parties to himself by Tinubu? Check out number 4, Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi. Used to be a Lagos State Government Guest House. Guess what's happened to it

You call me a retard for stating that Tinubu has more than a passing interest in Hi-Tech construction company, ITB and other Chaghoury companies, but I see you have not actually disputed that fact. Telling, isn't it?

I also notice that your rants somehow failed to address the issue of clear violations of the Constitution, first by Bola Tinubu, and now by Babatunde Fashola, only focusing as usual, on the trademark of Bola Tinubu, personal insults.

Finally, I beleive that everyone should pay their tax. I have always paid my taxes, and still do, no matter what country I find myself in. Her Majesty's government can testify to that, I believe. However, I do not believe in keeping quiet when I'm obviously being CHEATED by the operators of government.

I want to believe that Nigerian, nay, Lagosians are not as stupid as you and your sponsors think. We may be timid, afraid for our lives, since we do not want to go the way of Funso Williams, but we are not stupid.

I'm glad that you mentioned in your rant that people want free death. Are we not at least entitled to die for free, even if every breath we draw must be paid for, in your warped world-view? Of course, not according to you and your sponsors, Tinubu and Fashola, hence the odious and incomprehensible "Coroner's Law" that was recently "enacted" by our rubber-stamp legislature, which makes it impossible for us to bury our dead without paying a massive penalty to the coffers of Lagos State and Tinubu.

May you and your ogas die unsung. May you all die horrible deaths and have no one to mourn over you. Oloshi. Ooo mo eni ti ooun ba fa ni Omo eko Gidi!! Ko ni ragba fun iwo ati awon oga e dede. Oun ti e so eko da ni o ma pa yin. Eyin apa omo won yi. Awon akotileta omo, afoju ni gbogbo yin.

Mercedes-Benz S430L (the "L" indicates this is the longer version, as in L for Limousine), metallic ice blue in color, leather interior, electric memory seats ALL ROUND, electric sunroof, ice-cold AC, auto-close doors and boot, remote boot opening, parking sensors front and rear, nice stereo, COMAND, satnav, rain-sensing wipers, electric rear sunscreen, electric sunroof, electric steering adjustment in-out, up-down.

A bit of History:

This was my personal car in the UK from 2002 until last year, always serviced with Mercedes main dealers. Had it garaged up until I sold the house since I finally moved to Naija in feb 07. My sister insisted I move it over to Naija, and I did.

Has not been driven in Naija since it arrived 2 weeks ago. Has been professionally converted to LHD from RHD. Drives like a dream.

First to give me N4m gets this lovely ride. I'll post pics later. Watch this space.

*Update* Ok. Here are the pics now. Actually, looking at these images, I'm actually considering changing my mind about selling this car. Lots of memories with this one.

Business / Re: Obtaining A Mortgage Loan In Nigeria by felele(m): 1:44am On Aug 16, 2008
Is there no mortagage loan i can repay in 20 years,

UBA offer a couple of mortgages that could well be the beginnings of a PROPER mortgage industry in Nigeria.

NRN (Non-resident Nigerian) mortgage, for Nigerians abroad. Interest is approximately 11%, all in, for 15 years and they'll give you up to 80% of the value of the property, right up to about N70m, or more, depending on your demonstrable ability to pay.

They also have a mortgage for home-based Nigerians. I believe the interest is 15% all in for 20 years and same LTV and upper limits as the NRN mortgage.

These are the closest to real mortgages available in Nigeria right now. However, that said, customer service at their branches is piss-poor at the moment. I'd recommend anyone looking for mortgages with UBA to go straight to their head office at Marina, or their New York and London offices.

IPNX iwireless wimax is bluddy good. I switched over to them from starcomms dial-up, and, even though it's not quite as fast as my 2MB BT broadband connection in London, it's the nearest to it I've ever used in Nigeria. They say it's 400kbps, and it actually feels like it. Check their website and call the contact number there, as well as fill in the online form. They will contact you.

I flew BA on the 21st of January 1990 to the UK to begin my 15 year stay there. I made up my mind during that flight that I would never fly them again. Regrettably, I had no choice but to fly them to Washington D.C. last year on a visit to my cousin in servern, MD.

But for that one blip, I have never flown them again. I am a REALLY frequent traveller, and must probably have logged over 1000 hours in the air over the las 18 years. That one trip from Lagos to London Gatwick left a nasty lasting impression on me, that made me wonder why Nigerians ever fly BA anyway. I'm glad everyone has now woken up to see what I saw in just one flight, 18 years ago.

I bid you all a hearty welcome to BABA (British Airways Boycott Association).

I'm building a few houses in the Lekki axis at the moment, and power is a MAJOR issue. I plan to use VAWTs, either roof mounted or free standing, to generate 20kw of power for each house. This adds about N6m to the cost of each house, which the owner can recover within about 5 years of not using NEPA or buying diesel. In essence, to escape regulation from the NERC and the HUNGRY Lagos state planning and Evironment ministries, I want each house to stand alone, power wise!

If anyone is interested in this project, pls PM me, and I'll give you the full details.

sorry seunballo. This land is now all gone at N4m per plot.

I'll let you into a little industry secret though. Amen Estate, Eleko Beach Road. Get anything you can from there. Land, house, whatever. This estate is going to give the highest returns ever in the shortest time ever in the history of Naija. They just released a few plots on Monday, and from what I'm hearing, it's a major stampede by all the usual suspects. Bankers, oil and telecoms boys. If you hurry, you just might get one. My advice? Get a few small plots - the ones they earmarked for terrace houses. Best returns yet.

The rates being demanded by the banks for Nigerians in Nigeria are unbelievably punitive. 15% to as much as 22% in some places. These are slavery rates in our opinion. This is why we do not recommend these "mortgages" for Nigerians. We however have an instalmental payment plan over a period of 1 year that is totally interest free!

We fully expect all Nigeria-based subscribers to take advantage of this plan.

Tinard, what is likely to be your space requirement? i.e. How many sq.m. of retail space are you looking for? Do you need ground and first floor arrangement or ground floor only?

Are you happy to be in a mall type of accomodation e.g. The Palms, or would you prefer a strip mall type? e.g. Morrisons, Thamesmead?

I think you mentioned earlier in this thread that you already have plans. I assume these are the architectural drawings of your retail space. Could I have a look at them, to see how they might fit into my plans for a Mall I plan to develop in Lekki, around the Lekki Export Processing Zone area?

There's a new seaport coming there, so importing your merchandise should be easy enough. Also, there's 3million new jobs to start there within the next couple of years.

The mall we're planning is to have multi-level car parking, to future-proof the place against future parking problems.

We're also offering a huge price incentive on the rent, which should help drive all the in-town retail traffic to you, as you'll realistically be able to offer sensationally low prices for your goods and still make a tidy profit.

Please contact me asap via feleleg@yahoo.co.uk, if you're still interested in doing this project.
