Frankly, I think the "True Face of Lagos" guys are just a bunch of disgruntled party apparatchiks who have lost their usual feeding troughs in the Fashola administration.

The true meat of the matter is the WAY and MANNER the Lagos-Epe expressway expansion concession was granted, to whom it was granted and what Lagos State Government paid - over N22.5 billion - for the privilege of giving away a major arterial road for 30 years!!!
.
The true meat of the matter is how Bola Ahmed Tinubu came to be the owner of:

1. 4 Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi.

2. The Lagos State Government Guest House in Abuja

The true meat of the matter is how Trojan Estates Ltd came into ownership of the 250 hectare Royal Gardens Estate, Ajah.

How Ocean and Oil Petroleum (Oando) was able to buy Agip with Lagos State Government funds

How that deal impacted upon who eventually became the Oba of Lagos.

How Oando was able to corner one half of the Gas distribution network concession for metropolitan Lagos (to be fair to them, they are actually performing, as opposed to Atiku's Gasland, which cornered the other half, comprising Lekki, Epe, Lagos Island, Victoria Island and Ikoyi)

These, amongst others are the real questions that the Government of Lagos State, and not necessarily the person of Babatunde Raji Fashola, need to address, and immediately too.

For Fashola, I understand his position, but a true man dies but once. Cowards die several times before their actual death. To use the fear of Tinubu as an excuse to turn a blind eye is to open yourself to allegations, possibly provable on the probability of guilt by association, of collusion in the BLEEDING of Lagos State by the self same Bola Ahmed Tinubu!

Enough is enough with this romance with mediocrity.
What do you mean by current performing High commissioner?
How did you measure his performance and come up with the bolded parts of your posts.
Guy enough is enough with all these backward tendencies of ours.

Instead of scrapping section 147(3) of the constitution, the hideous looters at the NASS are busy removing the limitation on convicted criminals contesting elections.

Mbulela, I have time for guys like you, because you generally tend to reason out your arguments properly and tend not to fly in the face of facts, and here are some for you:

While it is true that we have had filial relations with Ghana over the last few decades, it is also true that it has usually being a relationship hinged on need. Natives of each country have migrated en-masse to the other looking for greener pastures, Nigerians to Ghana in the 60s and Ghanaians to Nigeria in the 80s. These migratory patterns have resulted in tit-for-tat expulsions, the most recent being the Shagari expulsions of the 80's, which produced the infamous moniker for a luggage item - "Ghana must go".

Today, in large part due to the positive, if unconventional engagement efforts of Musiliu Obanikoro, we now enjoy a symbiotic relationship, where Ghana plays host to thousand of Nigerian businesses and hundreds of thousands of Nigerian tourists. We are a grudgingly respected player in their economy, and our boys employ thousands of Ghanaians in their various businesses, the least of which are not Glomobile and GTB.

Whether Obanikoro fits our contemporary definition of a refined career ambassador or not, he has achieved results for us in a country where we were regarded with the kind of suspicion reserved for 419ers and ne'er do wells. The Ghanaian public perception of Nigerians has changed considerably, from a nation of fraudsters to a nation of investors. Koro engaged ACTIVELY with the Ghanaian government in a way no previous High Commissioner to Ghana has done, and it is to his credit that Nigerian/Ghanaian relations are at an all time high.

Musiliu Obanikoro deserves a shot at a ministerial position on the basis of his achievements in diplomacy, a field in which he was basically thrown in at the deep end, with no prior training or experience.

Mbulela, I need you to look at this matter dispassionately, and you'll see that the Musiliu Obanikoro that fought for the rights of Nigerian businessmen in Ghana will probably fight as passionately for the rights of his countrymen in their own country.

So u are here claiming HID was never Awoist? Jesus wept!!!

Dont get it twisted, the Yorubas were always deemed guilty of tribal politics despite the strong culture of socialism

For someone who claims to be Awoist, your arguments appear very well-oiled by a deep reserve of profound ignorance.

My Good Dr. Kitaun, could you please just address the issues I set out earlier, which I reproduce faithfully below, in case you didn't see that post:

felele:

Er, actually, my good Dr. Kitaun, no. You couldn't be further from the truth on that one.

Besides the fact that I DO NOT do government contracts, I actually suspected this deal from day one, when they said it would cost N50 billion. It's not a completely new road, fer chrissakes, even if it were, it would still not cost N1 billion per kilometre!

The clincher for me was the sudden need of the Lagos State government of the day to part with 1500 hectares of prime Lekki land as their own contribution to the deal. If they are contributing about HALF the cost of building the road, why not kuku finance the whole thing with taxpayers' funds, which they alleged was about N8 billion gross per month (Tinubu's boast on IGR, not mine), and not disenfranchise the indigenous landowners in the name of "Public Private Partnership", their buzzword of the time?

I am just pissed that Ikorodu road was built by some individuals with their funds and contributions from others, yet they did not ask for a penny in return, yet so called Governors are annexing public property in the name of development. Tinubu must think we all have sawdust for brains.

Fashola NEEDS TO CANCEL THIS DEAL AND RETURN THE ROAD TO PUBLIC OWNERSHIP, while at the same time revoke the 1500 hectares allocated to ARM and return same to the indigenous people who own the land!!!!

Shouldn't the post go to the most qualified person? I have a problem with post in government to be reserved for particular groups. It doesn't matter if the man is Yoruba, Bini, Ijaw, Hausa, Idoma etc, the post should go to the most qualified person. This system needs to be completely overhauled.

Until it is, we must play by the extant rules. Unless of course, you are willing to give a Lagosian the ministerial slot for your state, based on him being resident there for 15 years. We must demonstrate our ability to live by the rules, or else, chaos will prevail.

If Aganga is allowed to take the Lagos State ministerial slot, PDP can kiss Lagos State goodbye for ever. There is a chance they could win in 2011, on the back of the strength of feeling against Tinubu, and his increasingly compromised successor, Fashola.

mikeansy:

What section of the constitution are they quoting?

The Constitution says cabinet must reflect Federal Character, not sure it says how candidates should be appointed from each state.

This people talking about Aganga's indigeneship have not whether there is no evidence that Aganga was not born in Lagos or Whether there is no link whatsoever between Aganga and Lagos.

If there definition of Indigeneship is based on where Aganga's parents are from, then they simply misread their constitution based on perceptions rather than what the constitution actually says.

@mikeansy: Given the level of your discourse on these pages, I have to conclude that someone stole your handle to spew this rubbish above, considering that my original post actually reproduces and refers clearly to the relevant section of the constitution - s147(3).

Moreover, I challenge you to show me where the constitution actually defines indigeneship. In the absence of such definition, REASONABLE PEOPLE would not argue with a language or geneological test for indigeneship. So, for instance, where the clear custodians of the tradition of an area are able to identify a person as an indigene, by reason of geneology, no one would argue with that. So, a letter from the Baale, Oba or Oloye of the particular locale being claimed should suffice, buttressed, where doubt remains, by the ability of the individual to speak the local dialect intelligibly to native ears, for further evidence of indigeneship.

To the best of my knowledge, no court in the land has yet defined indigeneship, and this may well be the first test case for this long needed definition.

Read it. It's there in black and white.

Aganga is no Lagosian. Give him the Edo State slot and appoint Musiliu Obanikoro into the Lagos State slot, or Jonathan and PDP will lose real support in Lagos.

AC/Tinubu will be voted out in 2011, no matter what happens. Mark my words. PDP can either benefit from that or lose out. The choice is theirs. In the meantime could discerning Nairalanders please read section 147(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and tell me what they think it means in this context. Bear in mind as you do so, that Aganga is of ethnic Edo stock, and is therefore not an indigene of Lagos State:

Most REAL Lagosians like the idea of having someone of Aganga's impeccable stature (one out of 1500 "Managing Directors" at Goldman Sachs) on Jonathan's cabinet. However, we would be happier if he could go from his home state of Edo.

Why should Lagos have to suffer because Edo State wants to have more than the alloted number of ministerial appointees?

Would it be fair if a Lagosian who just happened to have been born and brought up in Benin by his Yoruba parents were appointed as an Edo state nominee, thereby making it impossible for at least one real indigene of Edo State to take up a space in the nations affairs commensurate with his skill and experience

At any rate, the Constitution, no less, stipulates that ministers must be indigenes of all states of the Federation. I don't really think I like the idea of having someone from Edo state representing my state, and by extension, my interests at the national level.

All this balderash about Lagos State being a no man's land is just that, pure bunkum. I am an indigenous Lagosian and I DEEPLY resent settlers who try to claim my state as their own, and in so doing, deprive myself and my brethren of opportunities which rightly belong to us. We certainly cannot go to their states to claim the same. Why should we be the ones making the sacrifices?

We are quite well educated and high achievers in Lagos, and we really resent slightly less competent outsiders being brought in to take our birthright.

The powers that be should just move this guy to Edo State's slot, where he rightfully belongs, and appoint Musiliu Obanikoro, the current performing Nigerian High Commissioner in Ghana to the Lagos State slot. Nobody can argue that Koro has not given a splendid account of himself in that position.

Enough is Enough!!!

Dr. Kitaun, funny enough, I don't believe Fashola is benefitting from any of these deals. I believe him to be more circumspect than that. He will probably want to rely on the goodwill of guys like Olowo-what's-his-face for future directorships or what-not. That is not illegal, and he will not have soiled his hands in any way.

However, he will have a tough time with guys who have no inside information, and who have the power to REALLY grill him, if he does not begin to reverse the "spoils" which Tinubu seems to have cornered. No sector is sacred to Tinubu. Even health care is just another feeding point to him.

Fashola needs to urgently review the concession of Lekki-Epe expressway, and if possible, end the arrangement as soon as possible. The longer it drags on, the harder it becomes for him to convince anyone of his own personal innocence in the matter. Moreover, a large proportion of the employers of labour in Lagos inhabit that part of town, and they are not happy campers right now. The disaffection is growing with the sprouting up of the toll booths, and if allowed to grow, it may consume Fashola.

I am appealing to him, in the name of the preservation of his good family name, and his own future liberty, to do the right thing with ALL of Tinubu's "spoils" of office immediately.

He needs to repudiate whatever contract gave Hi-Tech the prominence they have on that road immediately. The revocation of the 1500 hectares in Ibeju-Lekki also needs to happen asap, or else, he will give fuel to the fire being stoked by the detractors (not undeservingly) of the AC and its leaders as represented by Tinubu and his boys.

Fashola needs to let the Lagosian in him speak and act. His conscience must guide him, rather than political expediency or a misguided sense of loyalty to a man whose main means of political engagement is the elimination of ANY opposing views!!

I mean, the guy is a lawyer, a SAN for that matter, and I'm sure he understands the implications for him, if a future government decides to take a more forensic look at the deal. No. I believe it is Tinubu and Tinubu alone, in his misguided attempt to install himself as a mini-god in Lagos and the whole of the south-west.

I think he has bought into all the lies about how Awolowo allegedly enriched himself corruptly.

This is NOT how Awo did it. The Leventis retainer was just one of Awolowo's cash cows in his rather lucrative law practice, which kept going, even throughout his involvement in politics. Can Tinubu point to anything other than politics that he's doing as a professional "treasurer"??

At least, Fashola, like Awolowo, can point to a flourishing legal career prior to being appointed Tinubu's chief of Staff. I have no doubt that he'll return to it, even more profitably, once he finishes his tenure as a governor.

However, in order to finish his tenure honorably, he needs to attack the issue of corruption and corrupt deals that were entered into by the previous administration, in order to be able to extricate himself from any charges of corruption himself. He cannot allow the fear of Tinubu lead him through the gates of an undeserved incarceration, He is an omoluabi,

Just how much more sinister does this deal need to be?? The contractor, Hi-tech Construction, is a MAJOR member of the consortium that was leased the road by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the former Governor, in his last administration.

The same contractor has Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its Chairman and major shareholder!!!! Not sinister The man basically "dashed" himself an entire corridor of Lagos, and you see nothing sinister?

The "consortium" was also dashed land in excess of 1500 hectares in the Ibeju-Lekki area, going right up to the sea, and you still see nothing sinister If I were to value the land, we would say at about N1,000,000 per plot, 1500 hectares would come to about N22.5 billion.

They get to keep all the money from the tolls, and the Land, and the state gets nothing more, and you see nothing sinister

World bank funds are also involved, and yet the state has to part with well over N22.5 billion in assets, and you still see nothing sinister?

The quality of the road is VERY HIGHLY questionable, considering the amount of pure filling sand that they use as the sub-base for the road. This means the road is highly unlikely to last beyond the 30 years they've got the concession for.

The fact that Tinubu awarded the concession to a company in which he has more than a passing interest should be enough reason for the cancellation of the concession.

ANOTHER ANGLE: IF LAGOS STATE HAD KEPT THE N3 BILLION/MONTH IT WAS PAYING ALPHA-BETA CONSORTIUM (ANOTHER TINUBU FIRM) FOR THE 31 MONTHS FROM MAY 2007 TO DECEMBER 2009, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH IN THE KITTY TO EXPAND THE ROAD, EVEN AT THE OUTRAGEOUS COST OF N50 BILLION LCC ARE CHARGING, THE STATE WOULD HAVE HAD ABOUT N93 BILLION SAVED!!!!!

Fashola needs to cancel that contract, NOW!!!

I hear Tinubu's company are in for a hard time when it comes to the collection of those "tolls". Residents and indigenes of the area, from Eti-Osa to Ibeju-Lekki have sworn to make his life a living hell in the months and years to come.

Imagine, 1 billion per kilometre!!!!

Just what does Tinubu take Lagosians for?

Who the hell does he think he is?

And why on earth has Fashola not repudiated this obviously fatally flawed contract, on the basis of undue influence alone?

Is Fashola benefitting from the "concession"? I doubt it, but his in-action on the matter begs the question, doesn't it

I believe special attention ought to be paid by the EFCC, the Federal Government and the World Bank to the Lagos-Epe Expressway Expansion project, which is being done with World Bank counterpart funds and appears to have been awarded to himself by the previous Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

There is something about this project that stinks to high heavens. A public officer should not award a project/concession to a company in which he is later discovered to have a controlling interest.

Also, the issue of Lagos State's "contribution" to that project through the awarding of 1500 hectares of land to the concessionaire in the Ibeju-Lekki axis needs to be re-examined.

I am proposing that some citizens initiate a court case to invalidate the contract, based on undue influence and the glaring incompetence of the main contractor, Tinubu's company, Hi-Tech construction, which has led to non-performance on their part, once they have completed the road, which they are actually building with taxpayers funds, anyway.

They have said they want to start collecting tolls on the road in May, by which time, they will not have completed the road. WE SHALL SEE!!

I will not be supporting the Souper Eagles at the world cup, and I hope more Nigerians will join me in this patriotic protest to demonstrate the fact that we are fed up with the enemies of OUR progress in our midst.

We want our coaches to progress to the level where European National Sides and clubsides will come seeking THEIR expertise to coach them to success, just as we have Nigerian professionals in the oil industry, as far away as Qatar, USA and Alaska, using their expertise to show that something good can, afterall, come from Nigeria.

The football administrators we have are the worst kind of Nigerians we have right now. Those who will suppress talent just to fatten their own pocket. Stephen Keshi rebelled against these people when he went to Ivory Coast to further his professional career as a player, and blazed the trail again as a coach, when he qualified Togo for the world cup, only to be disrespected by that small country, because they knew that he would get no support from his home FA, since THEY (NFA) had done the same thing to another Nigerian coach before (Amodu, 2002 world cup qualification).

By the way, Forpeace, redsun and all the other Fashola bashers, could you explain to me what the Bola Tinubu Diagnostic Centre in the Lasuth Complex is all about? Why is a private facility allowed space in a hospital funded by taxpayers funds? Who does it belong to How about the Critical Care Unit in the same hospital? Who is receiving the huge amounts of money being charged for its use (N300,000 per patient at the last check)

How about 4 Oyinkan Abayomi (former Queens Drive) Drive, Ikoyi? This particular property was a Lagos State Government Guest House as of December 2001. It now belongs to a private citizen. Who is the person?

What exactly is Bola Tinubu's interest in Hi-Tech Construction Company, the obviously inept firm who seem to have cornered the construction contract for the expansion of Lekki-Epe Expressway?

On what basis were they awarded the ownership of that road for 35 years? Jakande built the original road within a space of 2 years without borrowing a kobo, and without issuing any bonds of any kind. Why is the expansion subject to a so-called PPP arrangement, if Lagos State was really making as much as N8 billion per month in IGR as Tinubu boasted severally during his administration??

These questions and more are begging for answers. Please answer them before anybody begins to even question Fashola's financial probity in this our beloved Lagos.

I will not be supporting the Souper Eagles at the world cup. This is absolute nonsense. I do not understand, for the life of me, why they could not have allowed Amodu to enjoy the fruit of his labour. May all the people involved in the disgraceful decision to take the job from Amodu rot in hell. Idiots. White skin worshippers, all of them.

Dunga took a Brazillian team to the world cup, playing pretty much in the same unattractive way our Super Eagles played throughout the qualifications and the Nations Cup, to much criticism by ALL Brazilians. But his employers stuck by him. Result? They played unattractively all the way to the world cup itself.

All Nigerians supporting this are the architects of our misfortunes as a nation. They always want to reap where they did not sow. In fact, this alone proves that the country needs to break up, and soon.

Chai!!! I feel so sorry for Amodu. He must feel so dejected to have this happen to him twice, Nigeria na real wa o!!!

Preach it.

Most people think Tinubu is dark. They have no idea just how malevolent this guy is. He will eventually turn on the speaker and the other members of the state house of assembly, if they do ever succeed in their nefarious plot against Fashola. If they fail, which they will, God willing, it will be even worse.

Until the yorubas break off from nigeria, lagos,in as much as it could be termed a mega slum, remains a bonafide city in nigeria and it belongs to nigerian, especially the players that makes the money roll, not for area boys and girls aka the otimkpus.

I personally can't live in a polluted and chaotic city like lagos, but i can have my activities there, whenever and wherever i want and can afford because it is a state in nigeria.

Lagos seized to exist as an evolving city when the oyinbos and the only thing that can bring it back to cause is strict accountabilities and responsibilities on the side of all, especially the leaders.

This bolded quote, more than anything else you have said, shows your ignorance nakedly for the whole world to see. Do you know that the first trunk A road in Nigeria is in Lagos? Do you know that it was built during colonial times No, not by your gods, the oyinbos, but by indigenes of Ikorodu and other Ijebus, after the white man told them point blank to their faces that he was not here to give them infrastructure. I happen to know this because I am a descendant of one of those brave indigenes of Lagos state that put ALL their money on the line to save their people from the hazard of drowning while travelling to Lagos by boat.

Walahi, you have just given more justification to the argument that some Easterners do not really belong in Lagos and do not really have the best interest of Lagos state and indigenes of Lagos State at heart.

Truly, if you do not like the obvious work that Governor Fashola is doing with YOUR taxes, please, take your filthy money to your state and go and donate it to your thieving governors who will then proceed to whip your ungratefull backside with a cat-o-nine-tails, aka, Koboko.

I really hate to have to educate ignoramuses like you, but if you need further clarification of the fact that Lagos ONLY began to evolve after the exit of the colonialists, I will be glad to oblige. yeyenatu!!!

And don't let the door hit you on the way out. Afori omo!!!

@felele
you talk like someone on cheap drug. do you have to resort to name calling to prove your point. all you need to do is to make your point sensibly. Fashola is a model to me but that does not mean i have no mind of my own. All over Nigeria we people like you who follow people esp political leaders fanatically without thinking objectively.  I will advice you to read the book,''animal farm'' and see what happened to snowball in the end and his followers. PEACE

Looks like we've hit a raw nerve, doesn't it?

I will continue to call out all the enemies of progress in Nigeria in general and in my state in particular, because our failure to do that in the past is what has led us to where we are today, at the bottom of the international food chain, instead of right up there with the Japanese, the South Koreans, heck, even the bloody Chinese. And I urge you to join me, for the sake of our children and our chlidren's children.

And I suggest that you would do well to join me in ferociously attacking anyone or anything that might even suggest that they might attempt to even think about dragging us back another few years, when we are desperately trying to move forward.

It's bad enough that they do it anyway, covertly, through all their appointees and loyalists in both the state civil service and the political appointees (read "commissioners"wink. They've gotten away with it for so long that they now feel they can come out overtly to rub our faces in their shit. Sorry o, I ain't buying whatever they're selling. The breeze has exposed the rectum of the fowl. Let them forget the Alpha Beta N3 billion per month.

The advances in banking automation have made them an idiosyncracy. We cannot continue to give them N3 billion every month to use to install themselves by force as "leader" of the Yorubas. That's one height you can never ascend to by force. A leader has already emerged, whether you like it or not, and whether he proclaims it or not. I give Tinubu and his cohorts the assignment to go and find out who that leader is. At least, this one cannot be eliminated the way Funsho Williams and Dipo Dina were.

In the meantime, I suggest that these people should expend their energy on looking for ways to defend the indefensible concessioning of Lekki-Epe Expressway to a firm in which the former Governor has an interest bordering on ownership, as well as explain why the Alpha-Beta contract was entered into in the first place. What track record did they have other than their "special" relationship with the operators of government at that time that Justified them being put in sole charge of "generating" revenue for the state that already had the highest revenue profile in the country anyway When were they registered as a company in Nigeria? Are they even?

Let's also look more closely at the 1500 hectare allocation of land to ARM and associated companies in the Lakowe/Oke-Odo Elemoro/Iwerekun axis of Ibeju Lekki Local Government area. What were the circumstances of that allocation? Who owns ARM? Really.

Why was the Lekki-Epe expressway contract handed to a company which has no track record of success in Lagos state? A company already fingered in allegations of money laundering in Abia State Why?

Inquiring minds require answers to all these questions.

I find myself agreeing with Tpia's rant about the illiteracy of some of these people trying to get on Fashola's nuts. Mr chuxy, are you dyslexsic or something Read this name - Richard Akinola, and tell me if it also means Babatunde Raji Fashola in your language. Odenson, dundee united, alai ni ironu, ero galatia!!!

Are you so silly that you cannot read too The person who went to court is well known to VERY MANY Lagosians, and is not a nobody. The idiots making the unsubstantiated allegations however, are not known to anyone, just like their sponsor, who cannot seem to find any of his secondary school classmates in Lagos. Nobody remembers knowing him, growing up on Lagos Island, which he claims he grew up on. The man is a foreigner in Lagos, and is behaving exactly like that. He conducts himself like some kind of conqueror, sharing the spoils of war with his goons like Ashafa, Afikuyomi, Banire and others.

Wo, you people should stop this nonsense at once, or else, the flames you are stoking will end up consuming you. A word is enough for the wise.

We are going to court to demand that the Lekki-Epe Expressway Concessioning Agreement be cancelled with immediate effect, and some land allocated to the so-called "private-sector participants" in the deal be revoked. I refer specifically to the 1500 hectares of prime Lekki Land awarded to ARM in the Ibeju-Lekki Area, also known as the New Lagoon City.

So, you see, we have your balls in our hands, and at the right time, we will clap. I should like to see your reaction then. Meanwhile, please do not make the grevious mistake of assuming that you people have the monopoly of violence, intimidation and harrasment. You will be surprised at how far a people will go to preserve their liberty, when it becomes obvious that someone is trying to enslave them in their own land.

I tot dat wud have bin a gud opport to display his integrity and clear his name (like Boola Ige did wen he was minister of power). but taking refuge in court injunction leaves much to be desired. Infact it will send wrong signals to people. personally i had assumed at if he had thru dat baptism successfully he wud have etched his name wit gold in peoples heart.

Politics / Re: Obasanjo: The Principality And Power by felele(m): 3:45am On Feb 13, 2010
You don't ever give up, do you? Now, pray, tell me, how many telephone lines did NITEL have prior to Obasanjo's deregulation? How many lines did the whole of Nigeria have in total?

Now, we all witnessed how Econet Wireless and MTN rolled out their lines so that within one year, ONE YEAR, of operating in Nigeria, each had no less than 1m customers. What was it that NITEL and its operators were doing at the time? Do you remember at all I do.

Instead of cooperating with the new entrants into the market, NITEL and it's operators decided that they would make interconnectivity nigh on impossible. The result was that NITEL customers soon became members of a gradually shrinking virtual private network, that could only communicate with themselves and no one else. I maintain that in the end, NITEL workers and their ignorant bosses KILLED NITEL, not Obasanjo.

Obasanjo remains the best President Nigeria has ever had. Jonathan has a chance to top that. Will he take it? Time will tell.

Meantime, Marvix, stop telling blatant lies and present us with facts, not innuendo and insinuation. Thank you.
Politics / Re: Obasanjo: The Principality And Power by felele(m): 9:17pm On Feb 12, 2010
I find myself champing at the bit to do what I find really deplorable, but I'll let my better judgment guide me. The death of NITEL is exactly an example of why Obasanjo accelerated the process of deregulation of the communications sector, thus giving us one of the most bouyant telecoms markets in the world today.

Even when they were trying to sell the damn thing so Nigeria can recoup some money from her frankly, bad, investment in NITEL, the workers and chopulators managed to sabotage two successive sales and the result now is that NITEL is comatose.

Marvix, your eagerness to insult Obasanjo is so bad that you have now resorted to telling outright lies. In what way would Obasanjo have been responsible for the the demise of NITEL as a provider of last mile telecoms services (they're still selling international voice and data connections through Nigeria's investment in SAT 3, of which they are the beneficiary)?

Glo has single-handedly brought a submarine telecoms cable to Nigeria, which it took corrupt government officials a partnership with several other countries to achieve in SAT 3. Is Obasanjo also to blame for that? The market is so good, Main One, who have no last mile presence in Nigeria, also a private concern, also jumped into the fray. Yet NITEL managed to make a mess of this same market prior to Obasanjo's arrival on the scene. In my opinion, if a business is not making a profit, or delivering services to prospective and existing customers, it doesn't deserve to exist, so NITEL should just die already. No be dis same NITEL wey dey ask for N250,000 to connect a phone for my Dad, way back in 1995 Yeye dey smell. Since you love NITEL so much, why don't you jump in and save them from a well deserved extinction Shiioor!!

Obasanjo is THE BEST PRESIDENT WE HAVE EVER HAD IN NIGERIA. You can take that to the bank!

marvix:

@egift did Nigeria as a nation have any other choice but to be the fastest growing telecoms mkt d question has been and should be how did that impact on our local telecom provider? It failed so if Obj shld get credit for the success in d telecoms sector he shld also take the credit for destroyin NITEL esp wen u take his role in d privatisation saga. So wat Obj gave wit d right he took more with his left dats y I'll vote him our worst president
