You did not even post the pictures and in any case my questions were directed to Angiefan who beside his/her other quirks is not known for telling brazen lies ; please hold your peace

Now how many of the people who can do anything about the situation do you think reads Nairaland ?
How does what you are posting then affect them if they don't read Nairaland ?
How can merely recirculating pictures which are already "all over the internet"  have any use or effect other than stirring ridicule ?
And can you honestly with hand to your heart say that all these pictures are from Lagos ?
Politics › Re: Lagos: Opulence In The Midst Of Poverty (NYTimes) by felifeli: 6:43pm On Dec 11, 2008
@Angiefan
Hmmn the pictures are all over the internet , So what exactly are you hoping to achieve besides posting dirty pictures ? Does it just make you feel good to do it  , or superior perhaps ?
Politics › Re: Lagos: Opulence In The Midst Of Poverty (NYTimes) by felifeli: 6:09pm On Dec 11, 2008
This will surely make me feel very angry with myself Angiefan , but I must give this to you and accept that you are a very persistent person . Shame this persistence is not being put to constructive use.

I acknowledge the pictures are from Nigeria and will not again be drawn into another tit for tat with you . Yes they are horrid picures , but if you see them as the empty glass , some of us see them as a glass waiting to be filled .  Why don't you put your energy for the constructive use of these communities which you love so much as to dedicate so much time in  creating  photo albums for ? Then you will begin to earn respect as a human being . As the bible says , if you know what needs to be done and you refuse to do it, then you are the guiltiest sinner of all . No hard feeling . Over and out .

I don't use a noisy generator . I use an inverter  - no noise no fumes . I wish there could be power supply from PHCN  but what the heck  , we do get power outage sometimes in Florida too during a storm , and when you are in  a remote ranch  in the middle of nowhere in Texas you really have no choice than to generate your own power. We will get where we want one day , but not with the assistance of people who only see where things have gone wrong and have refused to play any part in the things that have gone right.  Is there any person in the world who do not have their own personal challenges ? They exist only in the graveyard. grin grin
Thank God I have challenges.

I don't mean to appear to be 'attacking' you, just trying to get to the 'root' as it were, of your posts.

I apologise if my posts were perceived as such. wink Our viewpoints are different, no issues with that. I wasn't trying to convince you otherwise, simply presenting my own side.
Is the 'white journalist' living in a filthy slum? Are his children dying because of lack of hospitals? If freedom to you means freedom to live in a slum and die of cholera, it doesn't mean the same to me. The focus should be on the content of the article and it's veracity or otherwise, not the nationality of the author.
OK fair enough you are entitled to your pity party grin grin
Apart from the hot air however , what exactly are YOU contributing towards solving the problem ?

This is simply incredible !!
Is there any place where a Nigerian journalist has written ANYTHING about any other country (say UK or USA) and the citizens take any notice of it , not to talk  of discussing it ? But  in Nigeria / Nairaland a no-name American journalist puts together a rather pointless article about how people live in Nigeria and we accept it as the voice of God and weep  and wail in distress as if the end of the world has come.  I didn't know Nigeria has as many spineless persons as i have met on Nairaland . Well, you can all get yourselves together throw a big pity party and wail and  bemoan your sad lot  some more for being born a Nigerian, you can even turn it into song and dance and cut a music CD from it and sell it to all your friends . I warn you though, I am not buying .

It is winter in UK and several other places, does the UK citizen wait for the government to provide a coat ? No you buy beg or borrow one else you will freeze to death. Do they wait for the government to heat their rooms at night ? The consequences of not doing this is that you will be dead by morning. That is the way things are all over the world. in the countries that we admire so much.Yet a lot of Nigerians blame government for their failures and woes. Even those who have never paid a kobo in tax all their life blame government for bad road and every other problem under the sun including the size of the meat that came with their ofada rice. I am not poor , I can proudly say this and it is because I took hold of the reins of my life by myself. Anyone who wants to make progress in their life must also do this instead of moaning and weeping . God has given everyone of us a choice between being rich and remaining poor and it is left for you to make that choice. Anyone who wants to make it a life mission to go about taking pictures of beggars and gutters, you have the permission of the rest of us. Thanks all, I have said my piece and I am out of here. smiley

Just the usual crap , western journalists write to amuse themselves and their dumb readers, and of course it will make quite interesting reading especially while sipping a can of Budweiser - "Oh those evil , corrupt Nigerians getting drunk on government money" .  He should try comparing Manhattan to Queens and write us a  story about that too.  cheesy cheesy cheesy By the way he did not tell us the name of the governor's son who refused him a drink from his bottle of Hennessy. grin grin
Anyone who cannot afford to live in Lagos, stop living in shanties and go home to demand equal facilities from your state governor , so that his son will not be drinking Hennesy from government fund. This should also decongest Lagos fo the rest of us .

Guys Get ready Naira is going to 175 or above. In the UK we are filling the pains of the pounds. Someone is giving our Queen a knock on the head and she is caving in, from N260 - to N175 the money market do not forgive when speculation starts.

This is Christmas time and there is always pressure on forex market around this time every year because a lot of people are traveling (?) . Traditionally more pound sterling used to be purchased but as the pound has fallen in value against the dollar it seems to make more sense to more people  to buy dollars , thus the heavy pressure on supply of dollars . Don't forget activities of speculators also who have been battered by the fall in value of pound sterling over past few months and are probably holding back on dollars to drive the price up. I predict that it will come back to "normal" in the new year.

Ironically my regular mallam who changes money for me (without asking to see my mother)asked me to buy more pounds about a month ago as it will soon go up and I thought why should I (of all people)  take investment advice from an illiterate currency trafficker. Serves me right ?

don't even mind him,how many nigerians are claiming councill houses compared to indians and pakistanis(who are different by the way)go to the whole of east london all the way to romford, illford the whole of sheffield, leeds, stoke on trent manchester and they are all indians and pakistanis apart from south east london and a small part of manchester and other cities in uk,where exactly are the majority of nigerians fraudulently getting councill houses?
this is why nigerians in uk will never ever ever be united,an asian friend of mine told me this a year ago in london and i argued with him ,but since then i have been seeing that he is totally right in that respect
Never mind I have just chosen not to reply many comments about life in UK so as not to similarly appear so shallow . I also studied in UK - I know London like the back of my hand and could find my way around East London and Ilford blindfolded grin grin And as I previously mentioned my aunt is as white as the queen , and so I understand that most of the white British are not Nigeria's enemy but it is the ones wey them just dash red pali and the thing still they intoxicate them like ogogoro that are the arseholes .

JJYOU:
stop excusing nigerian foolishness.

at least the british have the audacity and courage to prosecute these killers. in naija not even the killers of bola ige (attorney general) is ever found let alone prosecuted. sadly the number of people nigerians kill in a day by way of poisons, witchcraft, drink driving or just the normal senseless madness/anger will be more than the UK annual figures.

how many unsolved murders do you have in naija? do you have the records let alone prosecute? all the ritual murderers you have around naija you are not complaining about them you come here talking about drug users sleeping rough. are there no drug users in naija? do they all sleep in houses? what of the people sleeping under various bridges? nigeria is 2X the size of this country. more blessed with human resources don't you think they should better?

why sit down here enduring child killers, rapists and drug users hospitality away from your lovely homeland? people like you never cease to amaze me

truth be told if nigerians were not fraudulently claiming council flats they were not entitled to, the state would have more than enough to give its citizens
.

this evil must have escaped you in another thread here on NL. we wont talk of jos madness at least we should not go there today
I really don't know how this works , but if there are Nigerians fraudulently claiming council flats (as well as all the crimes that Nigerians are wholly and automatically blamed for) , and you have the facts in what way have you assisted UK to bring them to book ? If you have never done that (because it is not your business) does that not make you an accomplice by default ? Does that not shoot your blind moralising to shreds ?

sadly the number of people nigerians kill in a day by way of poisons, witchcraft, drink driving or just the normal senseless madness/anger will be more than the UK annual figures
(Of course every murder case in UK is successfully solved because TV tells us so grin grin) How many killers that you know have been arrested in Nigeria and allowed to go scot-free ? How many members of your family are killed every day by poison and witchcraft ? As for drink driving and killing in senseless anger surely you live in another UK or you are talking about another Nigeria which you left 20 years ago. It is graceful to excuse random display of stupidity , but when people (Diasporas) persistently comport themselves in a manner which suggests that it is a virtue to be stupid then it needs to be pointed out and condemned.

LOL@ this thread.

For the record FeliFool, those pics you posted are indeed ugly! Is that the best Nigeria has to offer? Who hires a room with a ugly concrete brigde for a view and then boasts about it? Why post pics of a shabby white man in a brown looking sea? Do those BRT buses have MOT and insurance? LOL too funny! Oh well this thread is entitled 'Ugly Nigeria' and so I suppose you did post in the right thread.

By the way I was in the Galleria not too long ago. Nothing to write home about believe me! The only commendable thing about it was that there was cinema in it. The first cinema in a long while in Nigeria that actually showed movies that weren't too old. Too bad that PHCN took the light mid-film though. . .LOL! grin grin grin grin grin
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
Na Chineke God go punish you ten times every day you monkey's arse
That is a concrete roof parapet not a concrete bridge - you bloody simpleton . but how would you know - they took you from a dark hovel somewhere where civilisation is constantly rejected and transported you in a bag of cassava to another village in rural England come dey yarn . You speak good english sha grin grin
That "shabby white man" is a UK company director and is bigger than your boss wherever you are , ass licker
Do the buses have MOT and insurance ? - It is plain that you are an ignorant crackhead who did not even know that the buses existed (or for that matter anything contrary to the morbid pictures which you gleefully post and which obviously gives you intense sexual pleasure ) , which accounts for all your idiotic Rip Van Winkle postings. Therefore you also really need to arrange a MOT too for your expired syphilis ravaged brain
Who dash you galleria , you went to a tombo bar and PHCN did not take the light , you passed out on heroin overdose and vomited all over the place , and I think they should have let you die motherf**ker grin grin grin

F**king bastard !!
I saw the picture of your dad and the rest of your family in the other thread. I commiserate with you believe me. Do try and send them money more often will you , but of course you are on benefits grin grin grin

Your paedophile friend did not get beaten up because of WHAT he is posting but because of WHERE he is posting. Thread hijacking is just like real life hijacking and is never polite , it is also a lot like terrorism and therefore demands "Maximum Force" when sane people need to deal with it.
Your friend is a hopeless sociopath as he has demonstrated without any doubt and there should no tears for him. If he carries on like this he is soon going to meet a very unfortunate and violent end wherever he presently lives.

I said he is a lunatic because it is only a lunatic that will insist on breakdancing where other people around are waltzing.
