Samson Folarin The Peoples Democratic Party has said the party has transferred its corrupt leaders to the ruling All Progressives Congress, saying it is now free of corruption. The party spoke during a political stakeholders’ forum organised by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Ikeja, Lagos. maximunimpact: Last Sunday the independent national electoral commission, INEC declared campaign open for candidates contesting in 2019 general election; as politicians device means of convincing electorates for votes, sometimes lies are been told which in turn generate a lot of false reports. The fact check team at Nigeriadefender.com will be monitoring the words of politicians to separate truth from lies.
Nigeria Defender recently spotted a false claim by the candidate of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar when he allegedly said he grew up as an orphan in a bid to relate well with the poor masses.
Did Atiku actually say he grew up as orphan?
Various sources reported that the former vice president said he grew up as an orphan selling firewood, according to Pulse.ng, Presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, highlighted his rags-to-riches story as he unveiled his plan to fix Nigeria if elected.
“I started out as an orphan selling firewood on the streets of Jada in Adamawa, but God, through the Nigerian state, invested in me and here I am today”, Atiku said in a 9-minute broadcast that was streamed live on Facebook.
“If Nigeria worked for me, I owe it as my duty to make sure that Nigeria also works for you,” he said. The report was also published by thecable.ng as well as other top media houses.
Did Atiku really grow up as orphan?
According to Wikipedia, “Atiku Abubakar was born on November 25, 1946 to a Fulani trader and farmer Garba Abubakar, and his second wife, Aisha Kande, in Jada village of Adamawa State. Atiku Abubakar became the only child of his parents when his only sister died at infancy. Atiku’s father and mother divorced before his father died in 1957 and his mother remarried. Eventually, his mother died in 1984 of heart attack”.
This was also mentioned in his 2013 book titled “MY LIFE”, page 30 of the book confirmed his mother died in 1984. Atiku is about 72yrs now, this means that he was already 38yrs old when his mother passed away.
Why does it matter?
Does it really matter if Atiku grew up as orphan? Ordinarily it doesn’t matter, but it matters now because he falsely claimed it to be so. Fake news begins with a single lie and if not nipped in the bud it metamorphoses into widespread misinformation and that is why our fact check team at Nigeriadefender.com is waging a war against fake news.
A lot of people on Nairaland were abandoned by their parents while young. They lacked home training and that is why they keep posting rubbish day and night. They were therefore even worse than orphans.
HajimeSaito: Has anyone else noticed that whenever there are any scandals involving the dullard's regime such as the recent invasion of Delta State by Fulani herdsmen, fake certificates, financial impropriety, they always try to find a way of diverting our attention to issues like the Shiites or IPOB?
(In) 2014 Katsina Secondary School presented the facsimile of PMB's WASC issued by University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, UCLES, with the military. . . It sparked controversy and Nigerians wrote UCLES to confirm if it conducted exams in northern Nigeria in 1961. . It did and further confirmed that 152 candidates wrote its exams in northern Nigeria in 1961. . . It declined to comment on PMB's result because of the legal bar placed by the UK Data Act. Meanwhile, WAEC, established in 1951, didn't conduct exams in northern Nigeria as the northern Nigerian regional government opted for exams conducted by UCLES. . . This arrangement continued after independence and ended shortly after the constitutional regional government was broken up. . Someone would argue that WAEC is the legacy successor of UCLES, please, don't buy that nonsense. . The legacy successor of UCLES is Cambridge Assessment and it was this body that issued public responses to the enquiries of Nigerians in 2014. . Recall at the time that WAEC denied ever conducting exams in the north at the time. . Except PMB sat for a different WASC, the attestation certificate issued to him doesn't fit the facts already in the public place. . . If still in doubt, just google, please Google - Abdul Mahmud
I frankly cannot comprehend not only why governments in power deem it right to so blatantly lie to Nigerians and yet more worrisome, why “educated” Nigerians who must know better, accept their blatant lies as gospel truth.
As one of its “achievements”, this APC government lays claims to resolving the issue of emoluments for former staff of the Nigeria Airways. This claim has been carried and re-echoed by sycophant drunken supporters who neither care to fact check nor speak truth to power.
Whilst they claim to be finally paying off the debt of this buried National mess called Nigeria Airways, recipients, at least those who have managed to collect, discovered that over 50% of monies owed were summarily deducted claiming part were fees due to the EFCC, FIRS, and other agencies of government who took part in the verification process.
Whilst over 70% are yet to be paid and probably will not be paid prior to the elections, it baffles me that those who have collected and were, in my view, illegally, shortchanged, did not see it as patriotic to refuse this show of shame as what it is, an act of National deception.
I challenge this government on behalf of not only the Nigeria Airways staff, all other pensioners and Public Service staff, to explain and support with law what business agencies like the EFCC have in receiving percentages of monies legitimately owed to fellow Nigerians.

sarrki: NEWSWike speaks on governors’ meeting with Buhari, Obi’s candidaturePublished on October 31, 2018 By Wale Odunsi
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that there is no iota of doubt that the APC-led Federal Government has failed Nigerians, necessitating the need for a new leadership in 2019.
Wike further stated that the visit of four South-South Governors to President Muhammadu Buhari had no political connotation, noting that the governors were in the Presidential Villa to discuss the development of the Niger Delta.
He spoke in an interview with Channels Television Roadmap 2019.
He noted: “Our meeting with the President had nothing to do with politics. It was strictly for the benefit of the South-South.
“There is no personal problem between the President and myself. He came to Port Harcourt to commission a project that would add value and I had to be there.
“But when it comes to politics, I say no, the party of the President has performed poorly. It has failed Nigerians. The APC is not doing well. But when it comes to governance, you give the President that respect. ”
Commenting on the zoning of the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate to the South-East and eventual nomination of Former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi, Governor Wike stated that contrary to political insinuations, he played no role in the emergence of Peter Obi.
Governor Wike stated: “I never nominated Peter Obi. But the mere fact that the Vice Presidential Candidate is coming from the South-East does not give the zone the sole right to nominate a person , since the entire country will benefit.
“When the South-East said they were not consulted before Peter Obi was nominated, where did we meet as a party to agree that the Vice Presidential Candidate must come from the South-East. But we said if the Presidential Candidate believes he has somebody to work with, we said so be it”.
He said the fact that the Vice Presidential Candidate should come from the South-East, does not foreclose the inputs of the other five geo-political zones

computergeek: This is funny AF. ShopRite and a handful of other shopping malls are the only sight-seeing centres in many Nigerian states. No zoos, no parks, no fvcking beaches. Shopping malls are for shopping and actually buying stuff, not for celebrating Ramadan and Christmas.
I bet my Python 3.6 Compiler that 90% of these people have no cash to buy anything.
Wrong. Abroad people actually visit shopping malls to relax and chat over a meal or drink
