Great move Amechi ! People who should go to farm or learn a useful trade (sewing, carpentry , bricklaying etc) that are useful to their community are selling Next thing let them build labour intensive factories , farms and massive road maintenance projects and send all the layabouts to work for a living. Where will they find the money ? Look for the fat cats who are not paying tax and make them cough out. Grab all those people building crazy houses in Island / VI /Lekki and cruising carelessly around in N12m SUVs and hit them with massive tax ![]() |

I think it is good to travel anyway; see the world and learn some new things even if the hard way. @poster Boycott is the wrong thing to do if you intend to do maximum harm. I play a neat manipulating trick on my obstinate friends (especially girls) and when I want them to do something I hint that they should do the opposite and wallahi they begin to do exactly what I actually want them to do. Don't ask for a boycott PROMOTE UK TRAVEL with all your energy and people (especially Nairalanders) will be suspiciously wondering what is in it for you . I want to know if Nigerian expatriates living abroad are required to pay tax locally (in Nigeria) too. I know at least that UK and US citizens living abroad do pay some sort of tax in their country . Thanks for letting me know Please note that this is not a debate but need for information . If you don't know please pass on and refrain from making illiterate comments. |

Reese1:OK that was a bit of exaggeration just to demonstrate that not everybody feels the way that you do about your country , not even foreigners. What I meant was there are droves who would wish to be in your shoes (without the hassle of having to renounce country) It is a tough thing to renounce your country; in fact I think it is just plain dumb. It doesn't change you one bit for the better ; only makes you feel lost and confused. Peace. |
Eziachi:The quality of the response often speaks volumes of the poster ![]() |
A Yoruba proverb says " when a child has never seen another farm he boasts that his father's farm is the largest in the world " . That is how most of us tend to explain out our situations. If anyone HATES this country they have their reason to which may not tally with my own experience . I don't know who your parents were, I don't know where you live , I don't know the kind of people you meet on a daily basis, I don't know what you do for a living and how much you get paid for it . I don't know the sort of food you like to eat and if you are getting enough of it. I don't have enough information about your life to even make a relative comparison to mine and you have no information about anyone else's life to make absolute assessments about them. So I said if life in Nigeria is hell for you and you want to shake the dust of the country off you feet forever do it quick because time is going and life is short. But if you decide to turn it into drama , you look foolish to other who do have no means of knowing what you are passing through because they have their own lives to attend to. On the other hand I have an American friend who lives near me in Naija and would never consider returning home because never in her life has she ever been made to feel so loved as a human being as in her present location (Naija). I have group correspondence with several other African Americans (and others around the world) who think life has short changed them by making them to be born outside a country that is so much a cultural gold mine. So if you hate Nigeria , and you feel so important to yourself because you do, f**k off then , and it's not like you'd be missed anyway because even when you are there all you do is complain and you do not help anybody or your community (most do not even pay tax) .I personally thank God that Nigeria have expelled so many of the complainers. The rest of us will soon be able to get on without the moaners going zig-zag all over place. Please renounce your citizenship and go away quietly . |
Looks more like a pyramid scam and you could go to jail in some countries for this. Let's assume computer costs : N80000 You + five others pay N20000 each = N120,000 and you then get you compu bringing in five more (unpaid) recruits Recruit 1 - five others pay N20000 each = N100,000 and gets compu and brings in five more (unpaid) recruits Recruit 2 - blah blah blah Recruit 3 - blah blah blah Recruit 4 - blah blah blah Recruit 5- blah blah blah So the chain continues indefinitely and i am sure your N20000 is not refundable either. You bring in 5 more MUGUS OR ELSE your money don pafuka. Nice one. I should have thought of it myself and become as rich as Ponzi. |
As a matter of fact I know several Americans who will be willing to BUY your Nigerian citizenship if it was available for sale. You don't want to be Nigerian anymore ? Bye bye . You don't need to make drama of your personal life decision. ![]() |
why selling ? engine problem ? any defects ? how old ? If still available at end of January email me mail@tee-publishing.co.uk |
Some days i wake up in Lagos and think this place is not fit for human beings . Some days I wake up in London and scream this is a slave ship how did I get myself enlisted here. Some days I wake up in Los Angeles and scream what the f**k !!. I am planning to emigrate to Vietnam next. |
As far as we know Ribadu was really not so clean either. A bit cleaner than the current madam ,but a saint he certainly wasn't . His friends enjoyed him well well and reciprocated ![]() |
You have hit the nail on the head and spoken the truth, but this shall not be F6's portion by the grace of God F6 say Amen
Somebody previously called me a pessimist in another thread , and all these reminds me of the first business that I started when I was 25. The business plan was so well prepared, the cash flow projection so infallible; so I decided to do my uncle an accountant a favour by showing it to him. Your plan sucks, he told me; what if just two of your customers don't pay up on time ? Your business will crash. So I stormed out of my stupid uncle's office muttering all sort of insults (old fool, never do well, stupid pessimist , Jurassic jerk etc etc) . Less than nine months later I was an ex-managing director and without income. Which also reminds me of the next business I started at 28. Blah blah blah. Less than 2 years later I was again an ex-managing director and ex-fiance . Projected incomes are quite funny things to depend on really . They follow Murphy's law : whatever can go wrong will usually go wrong at the worst possible time. . Take care dude. |
It is interesting to see that one word which keeps coming up in many of the posts is "focus" . Apparently most Nigerians who had no focus at home and were drifting from one disappointment to another eventually escape abroad (wherever) and suddenly find focus and things begin to be better for them. The reason is not difficult to see. the system abroad forces you to find focus. In fact if you don't get focus quickly YOU WILL PERISH. The same Nigerians back at home require everything to be done for them by government - education, food , job, marriage, sex , etc; and even if they get headache OBJ, Yaradua and all the politicians stealing all the money are to blame. My driver refuses to pay tax because "they will steal the money" , yet complains about the bad roads. In fact many "Christians" will joyfully pay their tithe but will not pay their tax. Go and pay your tax first or you are as much a thief as the others , and then you can be justified and be able to complain that your tax has been stolen. Interestingly we see that when Nigerians who have gone abroad to find focus return home , their attitude to life and work is extremely different and they tend to see opportunities where others around them see failure . Sense has been knocked into them abroad and they have come to the realisation that life owes you NOTHING and whatever you will achieve it must be by having FOCUS. Now you can stop wondering why most progressive Nigerian companies prefer to employ employees who trained abroad. it is not about the education, it is about the killer instinct that they have acquired through getting FOCUS. I recommend that government should compulsorily send every Nigerian abroad to find FOCUS , so that they can come back home and be useful to the country instead of complaining everyday about how the country is not as good as Yankee and Jand or even common Ghana mehn (emphasis not mine). |
9jaganja:And how old are you now if I may ask ; and when was the last time you visited London ? given that this thread is about current affairs and not history ![]() |
dust => dusk => typo => no difference ke (abi Musa?) ![]() I initially thought u were based in the states. Now i know better. You live on hearsay and you'd rather argue with someone that tells you that you can be a successful professional in the states. It may be hard for you to believe but a lot of Nigerian Professionals are doing good out here.Sir, I have spent more years of my life outside Naija than I have spent in the country; but that is beside the point of this thread. I think I am quickly acquiring a reputation for belligerence on this web site and I must really bow out this time A-hole What was the baby's first word in that film "Meet The Parents ?" Bye ![]() PS : All new posters please note the topic "Nigerians Abroad: What Advise [sic] Will You Give Anyone Relocating Abroad?" and not "Abroad is better than yeye Nigeria . Discuss" Otherwise you are doing breakdance to Apala music . |
Work from dust till dawn, commute from dust till dawn. . Makes no difference to me.Dawn to dusk is a lot different from Dusk to dawn by the way (except you are Major Dimka) Apparently you don't know the meaning of "dusk" ![]() Medics make well above 140,000 dollars by the way. The average starting salary for them is about 110,000 dollars, i think.I think you have also been reading too many newspaper ads/comic pages. I have a good many relations living in US and in medical profession by the way. For your information, the starting salary for "newbies" at my company was 71,000 dollars prior to the employment freeze due to the recession. I leave it to you to figure out the profession. If you are not willing to share information then what the f**k are you doing participating in this thread other than to say that YOU are well-paid? Anyway I will not engage you in a tit-for-tat , your gra-gra too much for me ![]() |
Which emotions. Work from Dusk till Dawn? Which kin job be that. Certainly not a regular white/blue collar job. My statement does not necessarily imply that you won't find people in bad situations. It's just to correct the notion that everyone abroad is wasting their time. In my field, there are a lot of Nigerians doing well earning way over 140,000 dollars per annum so i'm just commenting based on what i've seen.
I want to believe that you don't need glasses sir and probably not dyslexic either. My post said " work/commute from dawn till dusk" For every Nigerian in US who earns 140grand a year (most often medicals working crazy hours), there are at least 20,000 others who don't. And again this post or thread is not about YOU so stop doing gra-gra . If you want to help anyone reading this thread post FACTS of where and how Nigerians hoping to emigrate can earn $140k Thank you |
Hmm, i see what the problem is. My guy, a lot of people in America a whole lot more than that. I guess having a gateman, a driver and maids means luxury to you right? Well y get a gateman if you don't need one. In the states, you don't need one unless you live in Hollywood. If you need a maid to clean your house, you can get maids/mexicans to do these jobs as well but most people don't because IT'S NOT NECESSARY Why would you need a driver if driving is not hectic or stressful. How many hours does your sister work? I'm guessing not less than 10hrs (without overtime pay). Do bankers in the states work over 8hrs without overtime pay. Let's be realistic here. A banker working in the US is better of than one working in naija juh. Do you know how many bankers in naija loose their jobs because of inability to meet some stupid "target" Fine, the financial industry in the US is in the gutters but that doesn't warrant biased comparisons. For the people who keep saying crap about cleaners and the likes in the states, to hell with you. That is why a lot won't succeed. Don't you have people working as cleaners in Naija. If you clean streets in the states and get paid for it, whats the big deal. The only people who have issues are those that don't have degrees/degrees from naija who come into yankee and expect to better off than regular americans of the same status. If you want a better life, get a degree in the states or at least get your green card. The sky's the limit. I am yet to find a nigerian US college grad that is not doing okay. If you don't have a job, go home.
LOL Chairman this no be for fight now ![]() The topic is "What Advise Will You Give Anyone Relocating Abroad?" . People are only presenting "FACTS" as they stand and not comparing location . No need for useless display of EMOTIONS . Many of us have also lived/schooled abroad before . When you work/commute from dawn till dusk where do you find the time to go looking for "nigerian US college grad that is not doing okay" . Everybody mind their own business abroad as we know and people ALWAYS carefully conceal their true situation.Because you are yet to find one doesn't mean THEY DON'T EXIST. Nevertheless stay cool ; I have not posted to challenge anyone's life decision. Just presenting the NEWS as I read it. I did not create BBC by the way and I don't work for BBC. |

All these rosy testimonies are actually getting nowhere . You need the grace of God to get ahead ANYWHERE you are - Lagos, London, Los Angeles , Kutuwenji etc etc. I know the construction industry in UK well and I know (native white) carpenters and multi-skilled who are today on benefit - (yes, when the going was good my plumber was riding a better car than me I confess). I also know Naija doctors in UK who are today jobless , and for your info if you go in on HSMP, Tier1 or whatever it is they call it now you are unlikely to get a job on NHS - your visa is only good for a few years, and they don't employ temporary doctors anymore. Hundreds of highly educated Indians (doctors, IT etc) holding HSMP are also stuck in UK jobless today and fighting deportation. The fact that a foreigner from a visa country can get a job as a carpenter means that you already have your stay status which doesn't come to you in a couple of weeks after you get there. If you are going there looking for administrative work see my post above - jobs are being massively lost everyday and temporary labor other than cleaning work are hard to come by anymore, and I am sorry they will not pay your bills (in London at least) My uncle an engineer has not done a single day's work in 2 years and has been on benefit not because he doesn't like to work. his wife a nurse gets temp work to do averagely one week in a month. Lucky for them they have been there for almost two decades and have property to fall back on. Are you thinking of going there to do business ? In present economic climate I will say you need your head examined. We are doing nobody a favour by glossing the problem over and telling people to jump in and HOPE FOR THE BEST. Aiye le . When things eventually go bad it is the same people who advised you to jump in , who will go about telling anyone that would listen what an idiot you are not to use your common sense. I can only think that there is a growing army of sad and lonely Nigerians abroad looking for co-sufferers and that is why this sort of "have faith" advice is rife in this forum. As one of my pastors used to say a long time ago there is a thin line between faith, foolishness and presumption and you need not only prayers but wide open eyes to know which way to go. I am not thinking that this will discourage anybody though. See my post above . As Yorubas used to say "The dog that is destined to get lost in the forest will not heed its master's whistle" Aja ti yio sonu kii gbo fere ode. Best wishes in your travels and travails all. ![]() |
Joke I heard on Nairaland : You know this Fashola is a bushman , see him planting trees and vegetables all over the place . ![]() |
I will this time refrain from making harsh statements having met with several epiphanies along the way and as a result of previous contributions on this web site and elsewhere. The whole earth belongs to God and it is us human beings who have partitioned it into "countries" which these days have become as meaningless as forced marriages. If you are doing OK in Nigeria God bless you , if it is in UK that you meet good fortune glory be to God - and refrain from comparing and contrasting , because in life you will ALWAYS find someone better or worse than you no matter your position. If it is the desire of God that your destiny lies in in UK , get your ass out of Nigeria QUICK!! - and the way you will know this is that God will make your passage smooth and you will not have to apply for visa ten times. ![]() And if your destiny is not in UK or elsewhere and you are only struggling along there YOU ARE DEADMEAT , get your ass out of there QUICK !! - and you will know that your tenure has lapsed when you just toil and you are getting nowhere and eating the kind of humiliation that you will not consider in the place where you have come from - and if you sincerely ask, God will make your passage smooth. As Yoruba people say "half a word will suffice for a child that will not perish. After he has swallowed it and it gets inside his stomach, it will eventually become whole and meaningful" Abo oro la nso fun omoluwabi; ti o ba de inu re yio di odidi And even you bind a person who is destined to perish with the strongest chains to restrain him from going to his doom he will fight to the death to break free and go. By the way it is officially projected (by UK government) that more than 600,000 jobs will be additionally lost in UK in 2009 alone , and even this week Barclays alone has laid off hundreds of IT staff ( ![]() |
LOL at this thread tpia , angiefan I love you both ; pity online romance doesn't work ; neither does online marriage Peace nevertheless. You know Nigerians are still the most fascinating people in the world whether you like this or not. It is only in Nigeria - well, most of Nigeria- that 2 (or more) people can actually stand and insult one another for hours and eventually go their separate ways without anyone getting physically hurt . Why do people ever think of living outside Nigeria ? Hmnn. No photos angiefan, I warn you. ![]() |
And how do you feel about this because I noticed you're an advocate for Nigerians in Nigeria and against Nigerian diasporans.
LOL How long have you lived in UK ? As a matter of fact I lived in London since I was 13 and know most of the country pretty well . I could really travel through London blindfolded. No I am not against "diasporans (?)" , I just get fed up with people going on as if the UK (or their tenure in the country) is the best thing that ever happened to the world . I don't hate the UK either for your information ; it still remains to me a second home . I should be worried about my many relations there who are facing extreme hardship at the moment. Peace. |
It is officially projected that more than 600,000 jobs will be lost in UK in 2009 though , or average of 1600 jobs a day ![]() |
IBEXY:Are you trying to be funny mate ? The war is not over yet, we're on tea break . You know like "oh man, I'd live in Nigeria forever with this kind of weather" lol, and not "I will buy any Nigerian citizenship, I renounce my American citizenship so I can stay in this here Nigeria and never go back to that America again!, Nigeria is just too loving and wonderful!"
