ABC News had also quoted Dr. Michael Jensen, director of endocrine research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as saying that if one is to have fat, "you're definitely better off if you've got some fat in the lower body."

"If you look at people who have primarily the pear shape, they're healthy in all the ways that this fat behaves. It's not just less heart attacks or less diabetes, it's all these ways we think about fat as an important organ for our health," he added.

Dr. Robert Kushner, a professor medicine specializing in obesity at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, added there is much evidence that shows "fat depots are not the same in the body."

Kushner added fat stored in the stomach is harmful because "it is more metabolically active," but fat in the lower regions may be more stable.

Fat in the lower regions also release fewer cytokines, which have been implicated in the insulin resistance that can lead to diabetes.

However, ABC News also quoted experts as saying it remains unclear if fat in the thighs and butt are better than simply being thin.

"You can't direct or drive the fat in one part of your body versus another. For the average person on the street, it's determined by genetics," Kushner said. — TJD, GMA News

The study was published in International Journal of Obesity University of Oxford in 2010, but is being picked up again on various online news sites.

Asking for police reports is a problem some people face when they need medical help, they arrive at the hospital after getting attacked by armed robbers.They are in great pain and have blood rushing all over their body but instead of the doctor to commence treatment, he asks them to get a police report before he will commence treatment and no matter how much they beg the doctor,he insists that they get a police report because he does not want to be arrested for treating criminals.

This type of thing does not make sense, the victim could be in dire condition and in need of immediate medical help for him/her to remain alive so doctors refusing to help such victims when they can is a very inhuman and heartless thing to do.
Infact a number of people have died from being refused medical help due to absence of police report.

Is it actually the law for robbery victims that are in need of medical help, no matter how urgent, to get a police report first? I hate to think that such a law exists and that the doctors are right to turn back people who are on the brink of death for a trivial reason like police report. What does the law actually say about such situations?

In support of continued strike of the University teachers, ASUU chapter of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, MOUAU, Abia state yesterday held a peaceful rally to enlighten the public on the ASUU/FGN 2009 Agreement and MOU of January 24th 2012.

However, scores of policemen stormed the University campus, venue of the rally and stopped the lecturers from carrying the rally outside the campus.

They barricaded the main gate of the University with a number of their vans and prevented anybody from moving into and out of the University.

Reacting to the action of the police, ASUU Co-ordinator for Calabar Zone, Dr. Charles Ononuju described it as “unfortunate”.

“Unfortunately and sad the security agents prevented the lecturers from expressing their views to the public. Thousands of police men and women with their vehicles and guns barricaded the University gate. It is very ridiculous that in a democratic dispensation lecturers were denied their freedom for peaceful rally.

“The union is asking the government to implement the agreement it entered freely with the union in 2009. It must be stated again that our struggle has nothing to do with politics or religion as has been canvassed by government agents.

“When the agreement was signed there was no politics and also when the MOU of 2012 was signed, there was no politics but now the union is asking for implementation, politics has come in but those who are saying that our struggle has been politicized, are enemies of this country.

“Threat, blackmail and intimidation will not and cannot resolve this problem. We call on the country to jettison this idea and resolve the issues. The union cannot be blackmailed to suspend the action until the ASUU/FGN 2009 agreement and MOU of January 24th 2012, which is the road map to revitalize the public University system, is implemented”, Ononuju said.

CNN) - A mother of 14 in Colombia tried to make ends meet, police say, by pushing her daughters into "hell" and selling their virginity for a couple hundred dollars.

Margarita de Jesus Zapata Moreno, 45, was arrested this week together with a 51-year-old contractor who police believe impregnated one of the young daughters.

She broke down in tears when she stood in front of the cameras after being arrested in Bogota, the Colombian capital. The Bogota Metropolitan Police say Zapata sold the virginity of 12 daughters to much older men seeking to have sex with young virgins.

Authorities also say the suspect would begin selling her daughters to men as soon as the girls turned 12 years old. She charged anywhere between 300,000 and 400,000 Colombian Pesos ($160 to $212) for a virgin.

But Zapata strongly denies the accusation. Colombian authorities often show high-profile suspects to the media shortly after arresting them. When Zapata was standing in front of the cameras Wednesday, one of the reporters shouted a question to her: "Did you prostitute your daughters?" She answered: "No, my darling."

Colombian police say they learned of this alleged case of abuse because one of the alleged victims stepped forward. Authorities say one of the suspect's daughters forced into prostitution gave birth to a baby boy when she was 14. She had refused her mother's orders to have an abortion.

Colonel Carlos Melendez, a Bogota Metropolitan Police spokesman, told CNN affiliate Caracol TV the young girl described to investigators the "hell" in which she lived when she was still a prepubescent girl, about being forced to have sex with much older men in her home and about a life of abuse and neglect.

"She was a minor and she still had the courage to report the abuse and also to refuse to have an abortion. That's when this investigation started, from the threats of her own mother," Melendez said.

The investigation took more than a year to complete because the only witness willing to testify, the 14-year-old girl, now 16, disappeared, apparently because she feared her mother would kill her for going to the police.
After she reappeared, she also told authorities about a man who had sex with her and got her pregnant.


Police arrested a 51-year-old man who investigators say fathered the son of the girl who was 14 years old when the baby was born. The suspect declined to comment at Wednesday's police presentation.

Police are asking the rest of the daughters to provide more information about this case. "Those who are watching or listening to us, we would like to ask them to come to the police so that they give us information about transpired in this case," Melendez said.

Police investigators say Zapata also forced her older daughters to drink alcohol and do drugs. Some ended up working as prostitutes and are missing, police said.

Police say those two arrests are only the beginning. Investigators say they will also build cases against the men who were having sex with these minors.

According to authorities, only two of Margarita de Jesus Zapata Moreno's 14 children were not forced into prostitution. They were the two youngest -- an 11-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl -- and they have been placed in the custody of a Colombian government child protection agency.

Authorities asked Rihanna to leave the site of a mosque in Abu Dhabi after she posted photographs of herself posing in areas of the mosque that are off-limit to visitors on Saturday. The Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center issued a statement on Sunday saying that while it’s open to visitors of all faiths and allows pictures, the superstar’s photos were inappropriate, violated the “sanctity” of the mosque and disrespected the religious nature of the location, reports Gulf News.

The photos, which depicted the singer posing in front of the mosque in an all-black hooded outfit, were posted to her Instagram account. Rihanna commented on the picture of her looking at a group of women wearing head scarves and full body garments, “B*tch stole my look.” Another picture shows her lounging in the sun with the comment “#NoTanLines.” Others show her posing with bright red lipstick in front of restricted areas of the mosque, as shown below.

Sorry girl, I know how painful mouth ulcers can be and they keep you from enjoying your favourite meals. I think your body is sensitive to something you're taking and that's what causes the blisters.
