While all other States across Nigeria experience reduced economic activities and vehicular movements during the Christmas periods.
Congratulations to the Igbos. They are the real backbone of Nigeria's economy.

Simply because they are the ones that travel out of their region the most. So, December is the period they travel back.

Family / Re: We Are Expecting A Baby But My Wife Wants Me To Buy Christmas Rice For Her Mom by Femmyfamous4u(m): 7:06am On Dec 24, 2023
Valoromega:
My wife and I are expecting our first child, so currently I'm saving up money before the baby comes, we are also trying to get baby things of almost 400k.

But she wants me to buy Christmas rice for her mom. I've already decided that I'm not buying anything for anyone this December, including my own mom. But she wants me to buy for her mom which I refused becauze my baby is more important.
Mind you, she has elder ones who can't even get anything for their mom this December (she's the youngest). I just lied to her that I'm broke and I don't have any money. But I have close to 1.7 million which I want I to save for the baby and also get a car for when the baby comes.

I'm I making the right decision by ignoring everyone this December or should I take like 100k and just buy a bag of rice and share to the mom.

Personally I don't want to spend a dime on anyone because my child is the most important thing right now

I understand your point but sparing 100k+ for your parents this period won't hurt since it's a one -off.

Josephamstrong1:
I don’t really understand some schools this days. My baby girl cleared all her subjects with distinction, all As and she was given 3rd position. She has been sobbing uncontrollably since yesterday. cry Yes, she was promised Christmas gifts and present if she takes first position in class this term.
I think she deserves the 1st position. I want to go to the school on Monday and appeal for result recheck. It can’t be!
I am not taking this o! My baby deserves 1st position with this result. cry cry

You really need to calm down. You're like the proverbial child who said his father's farm is the largest because he has not seen others. Yes, your child is brilliant but others might be more brilliant. I'm talking as a teacher with years of experience. You should be more concerned about the grade(which is distinction) than the position. I once had a girl that had 95% overall but finished 5th because I had 1 who finished 98% and three finished 96%. All you need to do is to keep encouraging your child. Don't ever make it seem like she was cheated. She will be badly affected. That's my little advise.

Business / Re: Dangote Set To Flood African Market With Refined Petroleum Products by Femmyfamous4u(m): 12:33pm On Dec 09, 2023
JASONjnr:
This used to be a relieving kinda news until Ajuri told us that it wouldn't stop Dangote from selling petrol at expensive prices.

What's the need for having a refinery if it's refined goods will be more expensive than imported refined goods?

Why are we pumping billions to repair failed refineries when it's selling price wouldn't be any different from imported goods?

It would in the long run lead to appreciation of Naira against the dollar. The pressure on the dollar will be reduced or channelled towards importation of machinery for production.

Yes, if the person is a vice president and succeeds an incumbent or if strongly supported by an incumbent president. If Tinubu supports an igala man to succeed him. He would win.

FreeStuffsNG:
This is highly commendable. Well done to every patriotic hardworking Nigerian and lover of Nigeria who made this surplus possible.

Nigeria’s most imported products were ‘Motor Spirit Ordinary’ (N1.92 trillion or 22.71% of total imports), ‘Gas oil’ (N736.66 billion or 8.71%), and ‘Durum wheat (not in seeds) with a value of N331.76 billion or 3.92% of total import.

Petrol is still the big elephant in our room depleting our forex and raising our aggregate import bill.

As Dangote Refinery rolls out this December, import of petrol will significantly drop and the dry season farming output for wheat will complement the impact of reduction in petrol import to further shoot up our trade surplus.

Exactly. The government has made huge investment in the cultivation of wheat, dangote refinery to come on board and PH refinery to begin operation first quarter next year. As an Economist, I can see positive economic recovery in no distant time. Naira appreciation to come too.

I'm posting this as a response to the topic that made Nairaland front page yesterday; "See What Someone Bought With An Hour Minimum Wage In The UK £10", the link: https://www.nairaland.com/7929193/see-what-someone-bought-hour/8#127286855

UK & US ARE OVER-RATED NIGERIA IS STILL BETTER in terms of cost of living see a practical example why doing a price comparison: 1 pound to 1 naira today is N1,001 so are you saying with £10 x N1,001 = N10,001 you cannot buy everything in that basket and collect change in Nigeria today?

1 Sliced Bread = N800
2 Spaghetti = N1400
1 Gesha = N600
1 live chicken = N3,000
1 75cl soya Oil = N1,400
1 Midium size Butter = N600
2 Gino Tomato paste = N1,000

Total = N8,800 so your change is N1,200 that's if you exchange pound to naira at offical rate and buying at the most expensive stores or high brands. If you exchange at black market rate and buy at public market "days" you will collect as much as N6,000 after buying everything in that basket....that's about £6 left.

LET'S JUST THANK GOD FOR WHAT WE HAVE AND STOP LOOKING AT AND GLORIFYING ANOTHER MAN'S LAND MORE THAN OUR OWN....OUR OWN NA OUR OWN O grin

We all agree but the income is the main thing.

It even makes you relaxed knowing you have a fall back plan in an eventuality.

Imagine people selling their lands and homes to go change diapers in the West! It's absurd!

It depends. Someone sold his prized land and cars and replaced it with better ones within 6 months of relocating to Canada. You need to study what you're going to do there well before leaving. The guy went into oil rigging in Canada.

You are right. Ogun has plenty of industries but they are not owned by indigenous people but Chinese, Indians and Lebanese. Example is ota industrial estate, you see Chinese and Indian factories everywhere, even Chinese and Indians drive okada up and down the estate. Even in lagos, most thriving factories in ikeja, apapa is still owned by Indians and lebanese

You're right.
Politics / Re: Anambra: The Largest Indigenous Industrial Hub In Nigeria (picture) by Femmyfamous4u(m): 9:29am On Nov 27, 2023
[quote author=IamAtikulate post=127187384]

Ogun is not the most industrialized.

If it's, how come it is not reflected in the common masses. Again, Onitsha Main Market alone has more multi-millionaires than all those industries in Ogun.

How many millionaires can you find in Dangote, Lafarge, and all those foreign companies in Ogun.

Do you even understand what capital flight is?

If Dangote makes #1 billion in Ogun as profit, he will pay 350 million as taxes. Let assume another 350 million goes into personnel and recurrent cost, he will be left with 300 million which he will repatriate to Kano or outside Ogun.

Ogun will receive only a tiny of this tax. The only thing that goes into the Ogun economy is the workers' salary since most of them will spend the money in the state.

So, nothing substantial goes to Ogun from all the heavily industrial activities in the state.

Now, if Stanel Group makes 1 billion, they actually reported that.

If they 350 million as taxes and 300 million as recurrent expenses, 300 million will remain in Anambra.

So, Anambra gets more from ongoing industrial activities than Ogun.

No country develops by relying heavily on 70% FDI. No state develops by relying on 100% DDI.

SW claims to have the highest IGR, yet it's not reflected in their villages because the owners of the money took them away after each fiscal year. I will excuse your ignorance. Who told you it does not reflect in the lives of the people? Is it the chest-beating you all do all the drugs Anambra people are notorious for?
