bushdoc9919: No,don't give up on trains. Trains are a good idea....cheap mass transport....and need little maintenance in the long run (compared to roads). Actually, they want it to die so that they can be proven right on why GEJ is clueless. They never reasoned that the money gotten from it could be used for maintenance and then building more should we take rail transportation serious. |

How about using the money gotten from months of when the train starts working to maintain and build new ones? So you wish for this to stop in order to prove that the man at the helms of affairs is 'clueless'? |

Instead of we proffering solutions here, we have used this thread for campaign again. What is wrong with us?
All our leaders from the era of oil boom till date need to be shot for not diversifying the economy when there was excess money. Just like in the last thread I created, no nation can develop if its science and engineering have not advanced. But we as a people are yet to acknowledge this fact.

VillageBoi: @ Feraz
Capturing bolts of lightning is pretty simple if you follow the 'right' procedure. Can I assume you were using a DSLR? Don't go into video mode, rather switch back to stills mode.
Here are the basic tricks -
Observe the storm you want to shoot... position yourself so it is not coming towards you or away from you but rather across from left to right or right to left - just like something panning across your camera.
Use a TRIPOD, you will never get this handheld. It pretty impossible that you will ever get the FIRST flash... observe lightning and you will notice that almost every big flash is followed very quickly by a number of smaller flashes.
Your distance from the storm is also very important. For safety you want to be probably 10-20km away from the storm... you are using metal items outside (preferably under some building cover just in case of a downpour of rain... or indoors from an open window that doesn't show in the frame. When you see a flash - count how long it takes before you hear the THUNDER. 30 seconds and above is a good distance.
Ok you are ready to shoot... you want a wide-angle lens - the stock 18-55 or 18-135 or whatever is a good lens for this. Set you focus to infinity or focus on something in the area where the lightning bolts are happening then switch your lens to manual so it doesn't keep hunting for focus. It will also be best if you have a shutter release cable of a remote control - this prevents camera shake from touching the camera. Use an aperture of around 5.6 for starters and a low iso of 100. Set your camera to BULB mode... not manual, not aperture priority and not shutter priority! When you see the first flash press the button until a few more flashes have fired across the frame. You can have your shutter open anywhere from 30secs to 2 mins at a time. Then check the back of your lcd. If it's too dark then try a wider aperture or higher iso or longer exposure time and also do the opposite if they are too bright. Trial and error until you get it right. This are the rules for taking these shots at night.
If the storm is during the daytime then use these different rules - Put your camera in SHUTTER PRIORITY mode. Select a shutter speed of 1/15 to 1/4 of a second. A low iso of 100 or 200 and then take some test shots to see the image is properly exposed. Have a polarising filter or ND filter that will reduce the exposure and help slow down the shutter speed. Then use the same rules as - when you see the first flash then you press the button. Got to be honest day time ligning capture is harder than night time and can be a bit of hit and miss.
Hopefully this helps you figure things out. Oh and its the opposite of high-speed photography - this is very slow speed photography. Omoi shiro i!!! Thanks but it seems you and Prof are both assuming I'm talking about using a high ended camera. Don't have money for those now. Still using my pureview Lumia phone. |

Can't you people allow them carve a niche for themselves? Claiming the future of Nigeria I'd with youths yet, you stick with someone who is above 70 years. This says so much about your belief in youths having the power to change the nation. Nairalanders, can you see the thinking pattern of certain people? They claim they need fresh candidates, now, they have been presented with many and they are yapping about how there are only two candidates - their preferred candidates and the others. See how hypocritical they have become. From the list, I can only assume three viable persons and they are - the lady, Chekas and Martin Onovo (until I hear their full manifestos). |

LRNZH: You have hit the nail in the head.
PDP has had the opportunity of 16 years to transform Nigeria. Their best is not close to enough.
Let us give a different party and ideology a chance in 2015. Of only tribalism will take a back seat. If politicians notice that their time in power is limited and dependent on performance, you will see a change in Nigeria.
Ghana did it in 2008 and brought in the then challenger Atta Mills. He was one of the best Presidents Ghana has ever had. It was his death in office in 2012 that truncated his administration.
Right now, Nigeria's issues is a weeping matter. Have you looked past PDP and APC and instead focus on the other candidates cos even if you did not mention any political party here to bring change, I can deduce you're making reference to APC? |

fabrigas18: kindly consider there population okk.. It's not about population. Even if we consider population, China is much more populated than Nigeria. That being said, if we work with the assumption that China could generate that amount of electricity with the original amount in the OP, then we need to ask our past leaders from '99 till date what they have done with our money. Let's start with OBJ who spent about $16B to generate darkness for us and pegging that of China at 6000MW, then we'll be looking at about 28000MW of electricity; factor in Yar'Adua and GEJ and we'll be looking at about 40000 - 50000MW which of more than enough to draw more investors. Now, include that of our leaders promising us constant power and you're looking at power generation a little above 70000MW. What about our universities? Dividing that missing $10B with 90 federal institutions will give about $111m which is about N16B ($1 - N160). This amount is somewhat enough to equip our engineering, medical and science laboratories. Even ok to start up some research centers in this country and shift our dependence on oil to something else. How about the military? We really should demand for what happened to our money. Pardon any error in my calculation. Also note that I'm working with assumptions here. If this amount of money is missing, what then is the function of NASS? Aren't they supposed to call the president to order on this? |

Someone who could not see the disaster waiting to happen in his church but attributed it to witches and wizards and could lie that it was a controlled demolition with people inside IMO should not be taken serious.
MODIFIED
If our various leaders were not seen going to these various institutions to pray and seek God's face and Nigerians did not dedicate everyday of the week praying for hours instead of thinking rationally, I don't think many pastors here in Nigeria will have say in certain issues or influence our thought pattern. |

This guy uses psychology on his victims. He first states that all runs must be laid aside before the exams (Yes, he gives that opportunity, Lol), then taunts those who fail to drop theirs. He separates carry-over's to one section that way life is difficult if you didn't prepare, and makes those who carry out suspicious movements during his exams stand for over half the duration of the test. Trust me, his exams are a direct replica of his classes.
In fact this dude should have his own list. 10 characteristics of Prof. Aisien, Lol.
The only lecturer that gives yellow cards and red cards and keeps the rule like its a football match. Fair enough his courses are cheap.

CFCfan: The interior looks ok. I hope it's not the train that takes over 20 hours to get to Kano from Lagos.
For those arguing for HSR, HSR can only be used on high-yield routes which can guarantee a corresponding ROI. HSR is very expensive to set up, and cannot be reasonably deployed in all nooks and crannies of the country. Please, explain it to them. They think it's just about setting it up and using at once. Correct me if I'm wrong but I do not think our budget can handle those kinda trains. |
