How do I equalize the battery?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 7:39pm On May 23, 2025
When last did you equalize the batteries?

skywalker95:
I need assistance with my tubular battery. I just topped up with distilled water for the first time and I notice the battery is now dying faster than usual. I ensured the battery was fully charged before topping the water to prevent overfilling it and I have noticed no spilling since I filled it. For the past three days, the voltage drops to 24.5 once the sun goes down and it was not like this before.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 8:38pm On May 22, 2025
I connected it to the earth/ground port of my inverter and the DB.

fuckboys:
I'm taking your advice chief, I just bought a 4ft earth rod and charcoal with salt to earth my system.

I wanna do it myself cos I feel it's a simple something that doesn't need an electrician.

Should I link it directly to the earthing of the inverter? Cos the inverter has an earthing port.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 8:23pm On May 22, 2025
That's a bad idea... Get a good stabilizer instead.

Darey00:
Haa wàhálà o.

Our grid too dey very low so the protector (abinna breaker) cuts off power before it gets in the Inverter if it goes below the threshold (170v by default).

But as per say we rarely do 170v (we mostly get 150-162v on the average), I set the threshold to 150v.

Now I'm thinking that's not a good idea. 🥹
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 6:01pm On May 19, 2025
For me it's not a yastic not to buy it if it has a good performance track records.

My Deye battery does not have display and it's not equipped with smart BMS and I've not for once had any reason to even check it and the battery performance has been super great since purchase.

HeavenlyBang:
Yeah, that makes it a no-go for me unfortunately.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 1:53pm On May 17, 2025
If you're living in a rented apartment with a central earthing, disconnect it and install yours it will stop.

I had same experience and after I did that (joint 2 4ft earth rods together and drove it to the ground and linked it to my connection) it stopped.

Jonescosmos advised me then to run an independent earthing for my setup and it's been working great since then.

I later found out that an electrician looped my neighbors neutral to the earth terminal in the DB.

fuckboys:
i totally understand you chief but out nepa light here is terrible and always fluctuating, I don't want it damaging my inverter so I won't bypass the central stabilizer.

What i plan doing is putting a breaker between the battery and inverter, so I'll just switch of the breaker whenever I wanna touch or access the battery since the shock is only on the battery.

I currently use the Jinko 625w and it's 13+A

favouredbymercy:
The other option is better than this. Almost all jinko panels up to 605w have a current rating around 13amps. From 610w up has around 15amps (you can check out their specs sheets to confirm). Future expansion would most likely be series connection. So if you get the 620w panel now, know you would stick to the 610w + going forward.

I'm using the thermocool 259L (if I remember correctly) and it has been great so far.

I'll recommend it.

KudozInteriors:
Good evening everyone.
Thank you all for the great information being shared here. It means a lot.

Please I need help. I believe most of us here either use inverter freezers or have an idea of it. I want to get either thermocool 219L or Scanfrost 230L inverter freezers but I don’t know which will serve me better. Any user experience from here will be highly appreciated.

Thank you so much🙏🏼

You can monitor your Deye inverter online using the Deye app or solarman app but just like most if not all inverters, it has a 5mins delay meaning you get performance Data every 5 mins.

But the solar assistant you get a real time update.

kristien4:
For example, u mean after buying a Deye inverter, youll still have to spend over 200dollars to enable you monitor online? Same thing growatt does for free with a followcome dongle??
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 10:40pm On May 06, 2025
You can ground the metallic body of the charge controller and the inverter.

favouredbymercy:
Ok sir. Please can the powmr controller be earthed? Because there is no port for earth. Or which part of the setup would be connected to earth since i am to use a psw sachet inverter. Or doing just normal house earthing is sufficient?

Thanks so much for your response sir.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 9:17pm On May 06, 2025
You can use a circuit breaker and fuse, but you need to install an earthing.

You can buy a long earth rod and drive it to the ground and run a connection from it to your setup

Avoid the cut out fuse

favouredbymercy:
Good day all
Please is using breaker for solar input enough to protect this controller? I intend to use the normal cut out fuse after breaker, to manually remove when its about to rain. Will this idea work? Panels are in series, so maximum current input cant be higher than 15amps.
Please what is the simplest way to protect the controller from damage and how have you guys using it here been able to protect it for long from damage. Thanks for your reply

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 10:54am On Apr 16, 2025
1. The charge controller max input voltage will determine if the panels can be connected in series or parallel.

2. The 720w is the maximum power the charge controller can output for a 12v system, so if you connect a load of 500w to the inverter, the remaining 200w+ will be used by the battery for charging.

cutefy:
Good day gurus...

If I have two 590W panels, 12v 3000W transformerless inverter, a 12v 100AH LiFePo4 battery and a 60A 12v/24v Felicity Charge controller.

1. Can I connect the two 590w panel in series to the 60A 12/24V mppt charge controller in order to charge a 12v lifepo4 battery.

2. Since my panels are oversized, It is Felicity 60A charge controller. I intend connecting a total load of about 500W during the period of sunset (from 7am to 4pm daily) between the CC and 12 v 3000w transformerless inverter.

So Is it possible that while the charge controller delivers about 720w to the battery, the remaining power from the panel will be supplied to the load of about 500W.

You can connect 2 different battery company together but ensure the charge/discharge parameters are within the recommended settings of the 2 batteries.

omotoda:
Guys, are cworth inverters low frequency inverters? If not what other brands of inverters are low frequency ?

Any side effect in combining different lifepo4 battery of same voltage in parallel. Say combining Cworth 25.6v100ah in parallel with say SMS 25.6v 100ah?

This is a good way to start, as funds comes in you can increase as the need be without restrictions or having the need to sell off some of your setup.

That is a poor diagnosis from your "engineer" cause without identifying the root cause of the low backup time even if you upgrade to 100v system you'll still experience same issue.

I'll advise you to get a proper diagnosis of the issues with your system before discarding the batteries, but if you decide to go with what your "engineer" told you then you have to inform the prospective buyer that the batteries are unbalanced and out of sync and probability of improper charging to avoid return match.

emyfine08:
Thanks for reminding me. their two things my engineer told me that will be the case 1, maybe the battery is not charging well 2 the load management so he advise me to upgrade to 48v because of our load on it, for the reason I can not open it to reconfigure it we decided to sell it off. Am not explain all this things to convince anybody but I the situations now

You're issue is your charger controller.

1. It is either not charging your battery well as a result of wrong settings or panel connection or,

2. The charge controller is bad.

If you can afford it get a good charge controller (you can go for powmr if your on a budget or the likes of Felicity, snre, Xtra Power etc) and set the charging profile according to your battery specs.

Ensure the charge controller has equalization features for lead acid (flooded) battery, and set it to run the equalization process once a month or so depending on your usage (you can read up lead acid battery equalization on Google for better understanding).

CaptainZubi:
As said earlier, I disconnected the charge controller earlier this morning around 7am and I'm still blazing my solar with all household equipments on as I type. Before now, when the charge controller was still connected ,

1. The inverter starts beeping and goes off if cloud manages to cover sunlight for as little as 3 minutes. I have to start reducing load instantly so it won't go off. I.e I instantly swith off my TV , fan, PlayStation etc.

2. I no fit even use am for night. Under 2 minutes it has gone off without load even on it. The charge controller will be indicating that the battery is low..

All these while I always thought it was my battery that was bad but seems its not. There is simply something wrong somewhere.

Picture of the charger controller attaches.

This is not actually note true.

There are car batteries that are made of LFP cells.

You can check Amazon and some of the other online stores to confirm.

CuteMaro:
Lifepo4 batteries are not recommended for this purpose due to extreme temperatures and fire risk. I hope it's worth it.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 1:06pm On Apr 05, 2025
Same here my car uses a 75ah battery but with a higher crankimg amps which led to the batteries I've bought for prematurely.

I've watched videos of people that achieved using lithium on their cars.

1 used a generic 300A BSM with a n 800A peak power, while the other person used 2 Daly BMS in parallel to achieve his.

However, I discovered that to actually achieve this you have to use the power LFP cells and not the normal ESS cells as the power cells have up to 5C discharge rate.

HeavenlyBang:
Same here.

I've used 75aH batteries rated at 600A crank to start my car, so I'm guessing I need somewhere around that.

My research shows Lifepo4 can handle that instantaneous current discharge, but like you said the bottleneck will be the BMS. You can run it directly without a BMS, but then you risk overcharging considering how alternators work.

Ideally, we'd need a 50-75aH battery, a BMS that can handle 600A without tripping, and potentially fan for cooling so the battery doesn't overheat in the engine bay (or place the battery in the trunk and wire it from there).

I measured my battery voltage with my alternator running this evening and it was at 14.2-14.4v. Lifepo4 can handle that.

The big issue is the BMS.

I've also seen people suggest using supercapacitors to handle the high instantaneous current needed when cranking the engine, then the capacitors get refilled by the battery. That would eliminate the need for a high C BMS, I believe.

Interesting project imo.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 8:23pm On Apr 04, 2025
I've been doing some research on it but my I'm still looking for a BSM that can handle 750amps as my car takes up to 700 amps to start.

HeavenlyBang:
Yet another car battery is dying on me. That's the fourth one in less than five years. angry
I hate lead-acid, man.

How feasible is lifepo4 for car use?

Cc: Valto

Possible to build a pack with fans for cooling and a BMS with parameters to prevent the alternator from being overworked?
