Politics › Benue Lawmaker Dies During Exercise& Kogi Speaker’s Convoy Involve In Accident by ffo(op): 10:17am On Jan 04, 2013
…Lawmaker dies during keep-fit exercise
The convoy of Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Lawal Jimoh, was Monday involved in a ghastly motor accident that killed a police escort.

Last week, Governor Idris Wada had an auto crash which claimed the life of his aide, Idris Mohammed.

The Speaker was said to be travelling to his Okene home town when a heavy duty truck ran into his escort van at Osara, along Okene road.

While the Speaker’s vehicle, along with others, were not affected by the accident, a police corporal Lamidi Akeem, who was in the affected escort car died, yesterday, at the hospital.

The Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Austin Akubo, confirmed the report and said the Speaker’s vehicle was not affected.

Meanwhile, Benue State was, yesterday, thrown into mourning, following the death of a former member of the state House of Assembly, Msen Sarwuan, during a keep-fit exercise.

Sarwuan’s sudden death shocked the people of the state as many of them wept profusely on hearing the news of his demise.

Sarwuan slumped and died during early morning exercise in Makurdi, the state capital.

A member of the family, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to journalists, confirmed the death of the one-time caretaker Chairman of Buruku Local Government Area.
Education › Re: Osun Students To Study Ifa – Aregbesola by ffo(m): 4:22pm On Jan 03, 2013
youngies: The Osun State Government has announced a comprehensive plan for the state’s secondary school students to study Ifa as one of their subjects.

The state Governor, Ogbeni Raufu Aregbesola, said the schools’ computer tablet had application for Ifa studies.

Aregbesola made the relevation yesterday during the special prayers session to usher in the New Year, organized with clerics from all religions praying for the peace and growth of the state.

Clerics who offered special prayers for the state included the President General, League of Imams and Alfas in the South-West, Alhaji Mustapha Ajisafe; the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Evangelist Abraham Aladeseye; and frontline Ifa priest, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon, among others.

The special prayer affected official functions in the state secretariat and other government offices, as top civil servants across all parastatal agencies graced the occasion held in the premises of the Bola Ige House, state secretariat, Abere, Osogbo.

Bishop of Osogbo Diocese of the Methodist Church, Bishop John Bamigboye, advised the government to compensate those whose property were demolished as a result of the ongoing road dualization in the state.

Bamigboye enjoined the government to return Christian and Islamic Religious Studies to all primary and secondary schools in the state.

Governor Aregbesola, in his remarks at the ceremony, declared that 2013 would be a year of total freedom for the state, stressing that the year would be for the people of the state a year of total turn-around and liberty.

According to the governor, the government’s major desire for the state in 2013 is to ensure the fulfillment of the desires of the state’s founding fathers, stressing: “Osun State will be freed in 2013 from hunger, mystery, poverty and under-development.”

He said his government has paid over N600 million as compensation to owners of demolished structures, even as he assured that those who were yet to receive their compensation would get theirs soon.

Aregbesola also disclosed that his government had returned religious studies to all public primary and secondary schools in the state, adding that the free computer tablet tagged ‘opon Imon’, which the government would present to secondary school students had an application for Ifa studies.

He also prayed for peace and development of the state in 2013 and urged all the people to support his government and the country with prayers, saying: “Nigeria needs prayers for an end to come to the security problem confronting the northern part of the country.”

Aregbesola added that his desire for the year was to make the state the envy of other states in the country, saying he had come to the state to do the works of God.

redsquare: You are nothing but a babboon. So Oxford and Harvard are now in the same league as your KSU and some other glorified secondary schools you have in Nigeria? Just because they have the tag 'university'. If all degree-awarding institutions are the same, why are your countrymen leaving Nigeria in droves to acquire degrees from US,UK and recently Ghana? U be real mumu. Anuofia.
redsquare, some body just called u dis:

ayd91: i agree this schools aren't the same, not in facilities or opportunities but we should make the mistake of limiting the quality of graduates to the reputation of the Schools. Great men also come from "small" places.

redsquare: I dont see anything 'fun' in what you just posted. Maybe your definition of 'fun' is different from mine. Someone graduated from a school like KSU and received all these beating and treatment, what would then happen the day you will graduate from Oxford or Harvard? Maybe na shi.t water dem go take baff you. tongue
Oxfor, Harvard, Bowen, Covenant, KSU, etc. They all have some thing common "UNIVERSITY". Will Oxfor, Harvard give you more than Bachelor degree because its Oxford or Harvard?

I FINISHED FROM KSU IN 2008. I THINK ITS BETTER NOW, IN THOSE DAYS, I WAS BATH WITH DIRT FROM THE REFUSE BIN (MIXED WITH WATER), CHARCOAL, ASHES, PALM WINE, PALM OIL, WATER FROM SOAKED BEANS, AND SOME OTHER SMELLING WATER THAT I DONT EVEN KNOW THE SOURCE (MAY BE URINE- ONLY GOD KNOWS) AFTER BEING FLOGGED BY MY LODGE MATES (I STILL HAVE THE VIDEO UPTILL NOW. IT WAS FUN THEN.

In Nigeria, Christians go to church on the eve of the 31st of Dec, some Muslims (esp in South west) also gather (Nasfat, etc) for prayers, even pagans and atheist also gather some in stadiums, etc to witness and count down to 1st of Jan.

I have been wondering and thinking about this for a while. Fellow Nairalanders, i will like to know if watch night (New year eve)/cross over night (where people gather to pray till 1st of January) is only peculiar or practiced only in Nigeria and maybe other parts of Africa (like there was stampede in Ivory Coast yesterday night). Is this norm also practiced in the western world or in some other countries of the world.

thanks
Nairaland General › Re: Let's Pray For Our Leaders And Not Insult Them In 2013 by ffo(m): 5:08pm On Jan 01, 2013
ujoatu: Why do we insult and curse our leaders.

A favourite past time of ours is to insult our leaders calling them names like Retarding, zombie, useless etc. I personally do not think its good as our religions urges ur 2 pary 4 our leaders.I dnt believe that GEJ sits at aso rock doing nothing but sipping moet. In the area I live,we now have light for 18hrs out of 24hrs a day. That's an achievement.
What pains me most is that its our youths some of whom have never been course reps in their lives that trades these insults. If you ve ever been in any position of leadership, then u get 2 understand.

Let's start 2013 by praying 4 our leaders so it canbe well with us and 4 those who are bent on continuing this, take it from me, WHEN YOU GET OLD ENOUGH TO BE A LEADER 2, INSULTS AND CURSES WOULD BE THROWN AT YOU AS WELL.AMEN
OP, God bless you for starting this thread. I am of the opinion that our leaders should not be cursed or insulted but prayed for by us. We are on the same page, bro.
