ABAKALIKI-EBONYI state police command said it had arrested a middle aged Fulani man identified as Musa of Amasari in Afikpo North Local Government Area for allegedly killing one Chibueze Nkwagu, 23, of Ishiokpa village in Sharon, Izzi LGA of the state over issues relating to stolen money. Vanguard learnt that the deceased was stabbed on the stomach with a dagger by the suspect when he allegedly attempted to steal money belonging to the Fulani man in the community Speaking with newsmen yesterday, the Ebonyi state Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Sylvester Igbo stated that the death of Chibueze Nkwagu provoked youths in the area who went berserk and started destroying huts and properties belonging to the Fulani herdsmen in the area. Igbo who disclosed that the peace meeting by the Command and elders of Sharon community in Izzi Local government area had led to the return to peace in the area stressed that there was no need for the youths to have engaged in such act since the suspect had been arrested and would soon be charged to court According to him: “At about 10:30 hours, a report was received from one Nnamdi Nkwagu of Ishiokpa village in Sharon that one Fulani man by name Musa of Amasari in Afikpo North Local government area of the state killed his brother, Chibueze Nkwagu aged 23 years. “The information we received stated that as the deceased attempted to steal money from the suspect, the suspect used a dagger he had on him and inflicted injuries on the stomach of the deceased who later fell down and died instantly. “Immediately the Fulani man was arrested and taken to the police station while police is going on with the investigation but while the corpse of the deceased was taken to St Vincent Hospital, Ndubia for an autopsy to be conducted, we received a report that the youths from Sharon went to the bush where the Fulani people had their huts and started destroying and setting it ablaze” The police spokesman revealed that a manhunt had commenced to arrest the youths who engaged in the wanton destruction of properties belonging to the Fulani people in the area. He advised aggrieved individuals in society to avoid engaging in self help but rather report incidences of crimes to the appropriate quarters as measures would be taken to quell the situation. He added: “When the information got to the police, a team of policemen were dispatched to the troubled zone and the youths on seeing the police, took to their heels. The police is making frantic effort to ensure that these youths that engaged in the burning of the houses of the Fulani people are arrested and I know that since a manhunt has been intensified that very soon arrest will be made for them to tell us why they engaged themselves in self help; despite the fact that the suspect that allegedly committed the crime has been arrested and is in police custody. “So, that is the situation and I believe that after the necessary preliminary investigation has been concluded, the suspect will be charged to court to face the offence he has committed. Meanwhile, a senior police officer led a team of police officers to the area where they had talk with the elders of the area. The purpose was to calm the aggrieved youths in the community and advised them that there was no need for their action since the man that committed the offence has been arrested. “They should not resort self help since police in handling the matter and that they should stop destroying the properties of the Fulani settlers in the area and I think that has gone a long way to bringing peace in the community”. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/03/fulani-herdsman-stabs-youth-over-stolen-money/ |
Burning just a single koran is enough to set off a thermonuclear reaction in the muslim world, yet adherent of this same piss-full religion keep burning bibles and other religious text in the dozens with impunity.[/ When El Rufai 'blaspheme' against Christians few months ago, nobody was killed, no mosque was burnt. |
LAHORE, Pakistan (AFP) – Christians demonstrated in cities around Pakistan on Sunday to protest after a Muslim mob torched more than 100 Christian homes following allegations of blasphemy. More than 3,000 Muslims rampaged through Joseph Colony, a Christian area of the eastern city of Lahore, on Saturday after allegations that a Christian had made derogatory remarks about the Prophet Mohammed three days earlier. Around 150 people have been arrested, police said, and though no-one was killed the incident highlights the religious tensions affecting Pakistan as it prepares for a general election expected in May, following a spate of deadly attacks on the minority Shiite Muslim community. Police and locals said a drunken row between two friends was the trigger for the allegations of blasphemy, a hugely sensitive issue in Pakistan, where 97 percent of the population are Muslim and even unproven claims can spark public violence. In Lahore on Sunday Christians protesting over the attack and demanding greater protection clashed with police, who used batons and tear gas to disperse them after they blocked a busy road, senior police officer Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani said. There were also minor clashes between police and protesters in Karachi and further demonstrations in Islamabad, the central city of Multan and the southwestern city of Quetta. The Punjab government initially promised 200,000 rupees ($2,000) compensation to each family affected by the violence, but chief minister Shahbaz Sharif raised this to 500,000 rupees after visiting the scene on Sunday. “The chief minister declared that the repair work of all the houses would be completed in 72 hours,” a senior Punjab government official said. The senior police official for the area of the attack, Multan Khan, said the trouble began with a row between Sawan Masih, a Christian sanitary worker, and his Muslim friend Shahid Imran. “They used to sit together and drink together almost every evening. They were drunk on Wednesday when they had some arguments,” Khan told reporters on Saturday. It was during the argument that Masih allegedly made the blasphemous remarks, Khan said, prompting Imran to report the matter to police. Officers arrested the Christian on Friday, but this did not stop a mob assembling to attack Joseph Colony on Saturday morning. Local resident Altaf Masih, also a sanitary worker, said “while they were drunk they had an argument over discussion on religious issues”. Spokeswoman for Punjab police Nabila Ghazanfar said four senior officers including Khan had been removed from their posts for “negligence” and “failure to control” the mob. Rights campaigners say Pakistan’s strict blasphemy laws, which can carry the death penalty, are often used to settle personal disputes and should be reformed. The legislation came under international scrutiny last year after 14-year-old Christian girl Rimsha Masih was held for three weeks in a high security prison for allegedly burning pages from the Koran. The case against her was eventually thrown out. The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on the attack for Monday and summoned the chief of police in Punjab and the provincial prosecutor to appear. Tahir Ashrafi, president of Pakistani Ulema (religious scholars) Council, condemned the attack saying Islam did not permit such violence. On Saturday Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf ordered an inquiry into the attacks. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/03/pakistani-christians-protest-after-muslim-mob-attack/ |
Christian communities across Pakistan have launched angry protests after a Muslim mob set fire to a Christian neighbourhood in Lahore. Police used tear-gas and baton charges to disperse the protesters today, following yesterday’s assault in the Badami Bagh area of Lahore. Several police were reportedly hurt. The arson attacks took place amid allegations that a Christian man had committed blasphemy. The government has ordered in inquiry. Today’s demonstrations took place as families in Badami Bagh returned to their homes to find at least 150 of them destroyed, despite assurances from police that they would be protected. Smaller demonstrations also took place in Karachi, Islamabad and Multan. “Everything’s been destroyed, look,” said Kala Jee Allah Ditta, a municipal worker and father-of-four, gesturing to the charred remains of his three-roomed home in the small Joseph colony where the arson attacks took place. The boundary wall of his home was destroyed, and the inside was blackened by the flames that had raged during Saturday’s attack. A pungent smell hung in the air, apparently from chemicals used as an accelerant. Around Mr Allah Ditta, an angry crowd gathered, gesturing to similar damage wrought on other homes in the area. The community said police, anticipating trouble had asked them to evacuate their homes on Friday night. “The station house officer of the local area told us to leave,” said Chand Masih, another resident. The attackers arrived the next day, going from door to door in the now empty colony, setting light to homes. In each of the narrow and dusty streets, families sat in the open, surveying the damage around them and consoling each other. One man stood among the crowd to declaim his grief. “Just because of one person’s wrongdoing, they have punished the entire community. Just look at what they’ve done! Why is the government not protecting us?” The tragedy’s roots is said to lie in a quarrel between two friends, Mohammed Imran, a local Muslim barber, and Sahwan Masih, a 28-year-old Christian municipal cleaner, who lived across the road. They were close, by all accounts. “They would sit together, drink together,” said Mr Chand Masih. Earlier in the week, on an afternoon when they were sitting outside Mr Imran’s barber shop, a fight broke out between them. It is not clear what was said, but residents claim sharp words were exchanged about each other’s faiths. By Friday, Mr Imran and another friend, Urf “Chico” Shafiq, told the local Muslims. The colony rests next to Lahore’s steel mills, and the quarrel coincided with local elections for the steel worker’s union. According to residents, the leading candidates decided to make the alleged blasphemy a campaign issue. A crowd - estimated to be more than 3,000 strong - first gathered on Friday. They gathered after Friday prayers, apparently urged on by the local religious leader. The police were there, although in just scores. The next day, the attackers returned to torch the colony. Community leaders have accused the authorities of doing nothing and insist they must be protected. Julius Salik, an activist and former minister, who visited the site of Saturday’s attack, said: “It feels very bad there. There is no protection. The government does not care about the minorities. The government has failed.” Sohail Johnson, of the city’s Sharing Life ministry, who also visited the scene, said although the authorities had vowed to investigate and the Chief Justice of Pakistan had taken up the case, there was little expectation that the perpetrators would be punished. “We feel insecure and we feel we will not get justice. They have burned two churches and dozens of holy bibles,” he said. “We are sad. We are in grief.” According to the Associated Press, a spokesman for the provincial government, Pervaiz Rasheed, promised that the authorities would help people rebuild their homes and said those suspected of involvement in the attacks on the Christian community “would be tried in anti-terrorist courts”. Up to 150 people have been detained. Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf have both ordered an investigation into the violence. source: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/neighbours-row-ends-in-a-holy-war-against-christians-of-pakistan-8528231.html |

Men can increase fertility by icing their scrotum, the Nigerian lecturer said. Cooling the male scrotum with ice could improve male fertility, a lecturer in the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, University of Lagos, UNILAG, Idowu Taiwo, said on Wednesday. The University don and fertility expert said in Lagos that male fertility has in recent times nose-dived considerably, increasing the rate of male infertility to as much as 40 per cent. Mr. Taiwo made the submission in reaction to a recent invention of men’s pants called “snowballs”, which has a mechanism for cooling the scrotum. The lecturer said the process that produces spermatozoa in men is called spermatogenesis, pointing out that if a man’s sperm count is low, because of the inefficiency of the process arising from heat, reduction in temperature would enhance it. Heat, he said, destroys sperm cells and also affects production of sperm cells, adding that a look at the male anatomy would show that the scrotal sack is outside the body. “When the baby is in the belly, his testes are in the abdomen. But when the baby is born, the testes descend to that sack. God made it so, to keep the temperature of the scrotum low,” he said, adding that the natural design of the scrotum, which keeps it in a special sack outside the body, was made so by God, to keep it cool. He said the natural the logic of the design of the scrotum was that if there is anything that can reduce temperature, it would help sperm production, adding that if your sperm count is low, it is likely to cause fertility problem. The university teacher said that putting ice on the scrotum could help boost sperm production and increase men’s chances of becoming fathers, pointing out that people who seat on hot objects during working hours would have fertility issues, hence the need for them to change job if they want to be reproductive. “Once temperature is reduced for the scrotum, sperm production will likely be higher. That is the mechanism. There is no drug involved and no magic,’’ he said. source: http://premiumtimesng.com/news/123435-icing-scrotum-could-improve-male-fertility-says-unilag-fertility-expert.html |
He was accused of arranging for a police wiretap concerning a political rival to be leaked and published in a newspaper run by his brother. Mr Berlusconi is likely to appeal and will remain free in the meantime. He is presently appealing against a tax-fraud conviction and also faces a verdict in a sex trial later in March. The tax fraud conviction stems from a trial last October that saw him sentenced to a year in jail. The sex trial concerns allegations that he paid for sex with an underage prostitute. The BBC's Alan Johnston in Rome says there is no real prospect of Mr Berlusconi going to jail over the wiretap case, but the conviction is another very serious blow to his reputation. It comes weeks after his right-wing coalition did better than expected in a general election, and is expected to form a major bloc in the next parliament. Transcript Prosecutors brought the wiretap case after a transcript of a phone conversation intercepted by the authorities was published in the newspaper Il Giornale, owned by Mr Berlusconi's brother Paolo. The conversation took place between the head of insurer Unipol and Piero Fassino, who was the leader of the biggest centre-left party and Mr Berlusconi's biggest political rival at the time. Unipol was trying to take over BNL bank in 2005. Magistrates had ordered the wiretap as part of an investigation into inappropriate interference in the takeover. The publication of the transcript in a national newspaper broke secrecy rules, and Mr Berlusconi was accused of obtaining the transcript from the wiretap company used by magistrates. In numerous trials over the years, Mr Berlusconi has been accused of charges including accounting fraud, perjury, bribery, corruption, having unlawful sex with a minor, and fraud over the sale of film rights. Mr Berlusconi says he is the target of a vendetta by politically biased prosecutors. He has denied all the accusations against him and has either been acquitted or let off under statutes of limitations. source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21698802

Tragedy struck in Ede, Osun State today, when a pregnant woman, Lateefat Odediran was allegedly beaten to death by another lady, Tawakalitu Musibau over a minor domestic issue. The death of the pregnant woman caused tension in the community as residents mourned the deceased and her 8-month-old unborn child in agonized voices amid wailing and lamentation. It was gathered that the deceased had a dispute with Tawakalitu and this led to an argument which later degenerated into a fight that led to the death of the pregnant woman. Lateefat was said to have died owing to severe injuries she sustained during the fight and the matter was reported to the police. The police have arrested Tawakalitu and investigation has commenced on the matter. Lateefat gave up the ghost at a private hospital 40 minutes after which she was rushed down to private Hospital for medical treatment. Mr. Shekau said he gave no mandate for ceasefire or dialogue. The leader of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnal, lil Daawati wal Jihad, otherwise known as Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, has denied that the extremist sect was in dialogue with the government of Borno state, and had agreed to a ceasefire. Mr. Shekau spoke in a new video message sent to journalists in Maiduguri, barely a week after a self-acclaimed leader of the group, Abu Abdulazeez, said he had Mr. Shekau’s backing to announce a ceasefire. The video also came days after the group released a video showing a French family of seven abducted in Cameroun. Mr. Abdulazeez had warned that the group would go after those continuing with violence under Boko Haram’s banner. In the new video, Mr. Shekau, denied knowing Mr. Abdulazeez or giving him his mandate, and rejected the claims of a ceasefire- one of several times the group has denounced such announcements. “This is a special message to the people regarding the rumours going round that we have dialogued with government and have ceased fire,” Mr. Shekau. “‘We are stating it categorically that we are not in any dialogue or ceasefire agreement with anyone. We have never asked anybody in the name of Abdulazeez to represent me, Abubakar Shekau, as the leader of this movement in any meeting,” he said. Mr. Shekau accused the government of blaming the attacks carried out by the sect’s members on armed robbers. “Some of our works are being credited to armed robbers and the security agents are using that as an excuse to kill our members, who are carrying out a holy mission,” he added. “Let the world know that whoever kills any of our members in the name of being armed robbers, would definitely be avenged unless they repent.” I don’t know Abdulazeez Mr. Shekau said he knew no one called Abdulazeez, let alone, task the person to represent him at a dialogue with the government. He threatened to “deal” with the group led by Mr. Abdulazeez. “I do not know him. And if we ever get to meet Abdulazeez and his group, I swear by Allah that we are going to visit them with the judgment that Allah has prescribed for people like them in the holy book,” he said. The fugitive leader, who has issued no messages in months, said he had tried to pass the group’s position across repeatedly since the issue of dialogue resurfaced; but each time, the messages were deleted from the internet by those he suspects were government’s agents. “Some government agents keep blocking our messages on the internet,” he said, adding that those behind the fake dialogue do not want the world to know the truth. He also warned Nigerians, especially those in Yobe, Borno, Bauchi, Kano, Kaduna, Taraba and Adamawa that the sect will revenge over any of its members killed. “God knows that we do not kill unjustly except those that conspired against us or those that fight us directly. “We will continue our against them until we succeed in establishing an Islamic state in Nigeria,” he said. source: http://premiumtimesng.com/news/122844-boko-haram-leader-abubakar-shekau-denies-ceasefire-in-new-video.html |
Suljosh: thank u bros God bless you. This are things that supost be in front page nt the other way round. Brazil be @ alertI just created a thread for this in the religion section, and it has not been in the front page |
Most Islamic dominated countries like Indonesian, Middle east, North african countries, etc have laws that prohibit Christians and other religions from practising their religion openly; Muslims from converting to Christians, etc (in some Sharia states in Nigeria- its death penalty if you convert to Christian). But this is not so in Christians dominated countries, there is always freedom of religion. But i wonder what the reason why these Islamic countries have laws that prohibits other religions from practicing their beliefs. Nairalanders, please let share you views |
misterh: In the ideal Islamic setting, everyone is supposed to practise his religion without persecution. Going by happenings during the time of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), non-muslims were part of the society and they were treated with respect. In Islamic countries where non-muslims are persecuted, the blame shld be on their govt, and not the religion. My opinion tho'How many countries are doing this? take a look at Islamic dominated countries like UAE, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, etc, Christians are NEVER allowed to practiced their religions openly. |
Are Christians permitted to worship and practice their religion without being persecuted the way these people are allowed here in the middle east or other Islamic countries? can a christian practice his religion openly like this in Islamic countries. |

Two Nigerians are detained by the Ghanaian authorities for allegedly importing 200 kilogrammes of cocaine valued at USD 12 million. Chief Sunny Ekechukwu Benji Eke, 53 and Mr James Elekechukwu, 47 were arrested by officials of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) in Ghana, in connection with the importation of a 40-footer container carrying, 1,946 boxes of shampoo imported from Bolivia in South America. Chief Eke is an Igbo chief, hails from Bende local government of Abia state. Eke and his accomplice were arrested in Ghana by NACOB officials, who have been monitoring the consignment following intelligence report from international law enforcement agencies about the content of the container, suspected to be prohibited substances. Deputy Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board, Nil Lante Blankson said the success of the operation, reported as the biggest seizure ever in Ghana to the cooperation of international enforcement agencies. According to him, in December, 2012, the agency was hinted about the cargo, which was shipped in a 40-footer container number MRK 257478-45GI belonging to MAESRK shipping lines and consigned to De Consumables Lines Limited, docked at the Tema Harbour and officers of NACOB have been red alert, he added. Elekechukwu, a second-clothes dealer in Accra, was arrested when he showed up to clear the goods. He was reported to have repeatedly claimed innocence, insisting that he was oblivious of the contents. Besides, he denied ownership of the container, maintaining that it belonged to Eke. Eke, who was in Lagos at the time of seizure was cleverly lured by NACOB officials to Accra through the assistance of Elekechukwu and was eventually apprehended at Shoprite, after he had dodged several attempts to get him. An official of NACOB told Daily Trust that the accused persons have been remanded in custody, while the matter has been referred to an Accra High Court in order to prosecute them. An official of the Nigerian High Commission, who confirmed the incidence, affirmed that the mission had paid consular visits to the suspects. He said the High Commission will assist them in getting access to their family members and in hiring a counsel to defend them, as officially required.
