Honestly, I must confess that I found it surprising to see that some fellow NL still sees 'brilliancy' in the person of SLS. People says he is cleaning up some 'mess'. A 'mess' that was created out of excessive risk, an excessive risk that he cannot manage - That exactly what he termed 'mess' I would not want to compare his administration with that of Prof Soludo era, but I had expected a CBN Governor that will grow the economy from where Soludo left it. I listened with heartfelt pity how some of Importers/ manufacturers lament how almost impossible it is to access loan facilities from bank these days. No bank want to take any risk again, yes! U must be covered @ list 130% b4 lending out. Non performing loans (NPL) becomes a monster appearing as if it was never expected, forgetting the fact that in the business of lending, some will pay and some won't ! (the hard truth). I know that some NLs Will argue that the level of these NPLs were high, yes, and it calls for reductions. Reductions by persuasion, negotiations, restructuring, rate change, financial advise, and above all boosting the economy, and not by publishing debtors name on pages of newspapers. Maybe Nigerian name should be appearing on the journal of IMF periodically to enable us pay. SLS has been asked on several occasion to submit his blueprint, he is yet to. Maybe that's what give him the chance on his stance on ATM machines. On Islamic banking, non interest banking have been existing before nw, the questns should be why SLS decided to narrow it to Islamic banking? Why the sudden brouhaha on Islamic banking as if it his inventions? In fact SLS is a mistake that has happened to Nigeria and the earlier this mistake is corrected the better for us all. |

Nigeria striker Osaze Odemwingie may receive two match ban for Twitter rant The Super Eagles star might miss crucial Argentina and Ethiopia games after walking out on the squad in March By Lolade Adewuyi May 12, 2011 12:13:00 PM In-form West Bromich Albion striker Osaze Odemwingie may be frozen out of Nigeria’s next two matches against Argentina and Ethiopia in June for his walk out on the squad in March. Coach Samson Siasia also suffered a personal attack when Odemwingie stated that the gaffer had “issues” on his Twitter page. Odemwingie, who was named the English Premier League's player of the month for April, has since apologized publicly for the comment, but the coach may use the incident to maintain his hold on the team by dropping the player for the next couple of matches. A report in Complete Sports claimed that officials of the Nigeria Football Federation are trying to impress on the coach to rescind the decision, thereby causing a late release of the squads to face Argentina and Ethiopia next month. “We want to wade into the issue before it tears the team apart,” the paper quoted an unnamed NFF official. “Siasia’s assistants believe [Odemwingie] has publicly tendered an unreserved apology after admitting his mistakes and should thus be pardoned, but the chief will have none of that.” Nigeria has had a history of player rebellions that have caused cracks in national squads. Being a former international, Siasia is aware of the intricacies of dealing with star players and is expected to handle this issue within his team with maturity. “[The other] coaches feel Siasia should not be too rigid over the issue although we will not insist he invites the player if he truly feels giving him a two-match ban will serve as a deterrent to others,” the official said. http://www.goal.com/en/news/1656/nigeria/2011/05/12/2482968/nigeria-striker-osaze-odemwingie-may-receive-two-match-ban |

This is indeed power of incumbency manifesting from another dimension. If you are not in accord with your governor, you are shown the way out. Will this be the endtime for this party? will this be what Nigerians have been yearning for? only time shall tell I cant wait to see Thursday package. |

At what age should a child ceases to be a child? According to http://www.avert.org/age-of-consent.htm, the age of consent in Nigeria is 13 yrs. The women that are protesting should first protest against such constitution. Morally such acts may depict a height of gross child molestation, considering the child level of maturity. However, Nigeria’s acceptable age of consent might be saying otherwise. Priorities should be giving to fundamental issues otherwise awkwardness will linger. |
He is now realising that this government has not giving any tangible thing to the nation. I hope it will not be too late. I can only wish him , goodluck |
In addition , "Under the Monoline banking, the apex bank stated that three categories of banks will be considered. They are Regional bank, National and International bank. The regional bank will operate in a "minimum of five and a maximum of 10 contiguous states" in addition to having the word "Regional" in its name. The minimum capital for this category of bank will be N15 billion. The national with branch network restricted to Nigerian will have a minimum capital of N25billion and international bank with offshore branches with minimum capital of N100 billion.'' I dont know where this man (Sanusi) is going to, 'Regional Bank' in this era? |

Declare Yar’Adua unfit to continue, citizens ask court By Tobi Soniyi, Published: Thursday, 24 Dec 2009 President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua TWO Nigerian citizens, former minority leader in the House of Representatives, Farouk Aliyu and Sani Gabbas, have asked the Federal High Court, Abuja, to declare that President Umaru Yar’Adua’s absence on health ground constitutes permanent incapacity to perform the duties of President as envisaged by Section 146 of the 1999 Constitution. The citizens, whose suit follows a separate action filed last week at the Federal High Court, Abuja, by the President of the West African Bar Association, Mr. Femi Falana, joined the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mike Aondoakaa, and the Federal Executive Council as defendants. In the suit filed on Wednesday, the plaintiffs represented by Mr. Bamidele Aturu, asked the court to declare that Yar’Adua’s absence from the country and from his statutory duties and functions constituted permanent incapacity within the meaning and intendment of Section 146 of the constitution. They also asked the court to compel Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan to assume the duties of the office of President and sign the 209 supplementary budget into law. The plaintiffs asked the court to determine, among other things; * Whether having regard to the fact that the President who has not been on vacation and has been undergoing treatment at a hospital outside Nigeria in Saudi Arabia since November 23, 2009, the Federal Executive Council ought not to be compelled to pass and publicise a resolution as to whether or not the President is incapable of discharging the functions of his office; * Whether the absence of President Yar’Adua from Nigeria and from his constitutional and statutory duties for medical treatment since November 23, 2009 at a Saudi Arabia Hospital without being on holiday does not constitute permanent incapacity within the meaning and intendment and general meaning of section 146 of the 1999 Constitution; and * Whether having regard to the circumstances surrounding the absence of President Yar’adua from Nigeria and from his constitutional duties for medical treatment it is unlawful for the vice-president to refuse to exercise the functions of the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The plaintiffs also asked the court for a declaration that the non-consideration by FEC for the purpose of passing or rejecting as resolution the proposal as to whether or not the President suffers permanent incapacity as a result of his absence from his statutory duties is a flagrant violation of the constitution and an indefensible breach of their oath of allegiance and oath for the execution of the duties of his office as prescribed in the seventh schedule to the constitution by virtue of section 149 of the constitution. Futhermore, the plaintifss asked for a declaration that it is unconstitutional for the vice-president to refuse to exercise the functions of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria having regard to the circumstances surrounding the absence of President Yar’Adua from the country and his constitutional duties for medical treatment in Saudi Arabia; an order directing FEC to consider and if thought fit to pass a resolution declaring whether the absence of the President from the country and from his constitutional duties and functions outside the purview of the constitution constitutes permanent incapacity within the meaning and intendment of section 146 of the 1999 Constitution. No date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit. The matter has not been assigned as the court has proceeded on Christmas and New Year holidays ,http://punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200912243322118 |
The problem with Nigeria oil management is not that the leaders are not aware of what to do, rather it the choice of what to do that is treating that sector. Our leaders believe in short term measures that will favour them while they are still in the government. They believe in the cycle of 'produce sell and buy' even at international price at the detriment of its citizens. They will even present the picture of ''subsidizing'' the product thereby diverting from the bone of contention. Until we start refining all of our product and market same, the destiny of our God giving resources remain in the hand of strangers - no matter the level of local content policy we advocate |
@ Mbulele I am not a fan of style of leadership. I do not advocate for any form of government, whether it is communist, socialist, capitalist, or presidential system, what i advocate for is qualitative leadership. The type of leadership that puts smile on the faces of its citizenry. If Venezuela's style of leadership will put smile on our face, then let it be! |
@N101 You can verify the source from - http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5485512-146/story.csp This is just an external echoing of the fact that we are not managing our own resources, when we can! We have been made to buy the idea of Globalization in a negative approach. A country that fails to take care of itself will be 'taken care' of by others. You must satisfy yourself with what you have before you begin to search for what you don't have. In the law of comparative advantage, i wonder what Nigeria have in it entirety to offer to other nation. May God keep us save until a good Leader will arise |
Manage your oil wealth well, Venezuela urges Nigeria The Minister of Information and Communications, Dora Akunyili, yesterday got more than she bargained for when Enerique Fernando Arrundell, the Venezuelan Ambassador to Nigeria, used the opportunity of his visit to her office to tell Nigerians some hard lessons on how to manage, develop and utilize their God-given natural resources for the benefit and good of all. The envoy, who was responding to an appeal by Mrs. Akunyili to help woo some of his country’s investors to come in and establish refineries under the federal government’s planned deregulation of the downstream sector of the nation’s petroleum industry, advised Nigeria to rather look inwards and to take full control of the industry. Though, he acknowledged Venezuela as a prominent member of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) like Nigeria, he said his country will be willing to collaborate with the federal government to develop the industry. The hard truth Mr. Arrundell said, “In Venezuela, since 1999, we’ve never had a raise in fuel price. We only pay $1.02 to fill the tank. What I pay for with N12,000 here (Nigeria), in Venezuela I’ll pay N400. What is happening is simple. Our President (Hugo Chavez) decided one day to control the industry, because it belongs to the Venezuelans. If you don’t control the industry, your development will be in the hands of the foreigners. You have to have your own country. The oil is your country’s. Sorry I am telling you this. I am giving you the experience of Venezuela. We have 12 refineries in the United States, 18,000 gas stations in the West Coast. All we are doing is in the hands of the Venezuelans.” The envoy said, “Before 1999, we had three or four foreign companies working with us. That time they were taking 80 per cent, and giving us 20. Now, we have 90 per cent, and giving them 10. But now, we have 22 countries working with us in that condition. It is the Venezuelan condition. You know why? It is because 60 per cent of the income goes to social programmes. That’s why we have 22,000 medical doctors assisting the people in the community. The people don’t go to the hospital; doctors go to their houses. This is because the money is handled by the Venezuelans. How come Nigeria that has more technical manpower than Venezuela, with 150 million people, and very intellectual people all around, not been able to get it right? The question is: If you are not handling your resources, how are you going to handle the country? “So, it is important that Nigeria takes control of her resources. We have no illiterate people. We have over 17 new universities totally free. I graduated from the university without paying one cent, and take three meals every day, because we have the resources. We want the resources of the Nigerian people for the Nigerians. It is enough! It is enough, Minister!” |
Please guys, what is your stake on this? Ladies, your opinion will also be welcome. Thanks |
Guys, what are the modalities of accessing PTDF scholarship? Is it still available? |
firstly, when the guy was around, you did not anticipate that he will be leaving after his IT. You would have made all the necessary arrangement before he depart. Now you are handicap. You can buy the software from the guy - you know nothing is free. Let your management realised that it will cost them to purchase the software. Even in the net, it is not free |
