Farmerakinloye6: I will keep saying it both online and offline, know your strength (monitoring, logistics and financial aspect) and cultivate what you know you will be able to handle! One of my colleague plant twenty thousand stand, now he can't handle the harvest, bagging plus transportation to Lagos, Look at his cucumber below, out of 31 bags He brought to market on Saturday, remain 18 bags which is now ripe. He is planning to bring another 50-70 bags again . His target is 500k every five days In akure. Bottom line! know your personal and market strength before you plant
Nezzjnr: Contains paraquat ooo... I even waited for a week
paraquat, I don't know about it effect, I know atrazine is soil based but glyphosate works on direct contact with plant because glyphosate is strongly binded by soil particles and don't work directly on the soil.
Nezzjnr: Manual Weeding is the best abeg or use of mulching film.
I sprayed weedstorm on the beds a week before planting.
Only 60% of the Jorad i planted survived .
what is the active ingredient of d herbicide cos I know atrazine is soil based and can kill seeds in soil , if it is glyphosate any small weed sef , u spray the n thenext day u can plant. A ridge that was prepared for me was growing weeds I sprayed the area planted the next day they still germinated.
OfficialSam: Fellow farmers, i salute you all. This is my cucumber farm. It's 4 weeks old. I'm a first time farmer. Hope I'm doing well?
nice 1 , u must have soak up all the info from d 1st page till the last page, na so I start o I read like mad kan try m for qtr plot. M still learning new things too @ Farmerakinloye6 wt do u think. The new bosses na Farmerakinloye6 n oga okoroemeka. We dey learn 4rm them.
Farmerakinloye6: I think it High time i she'd some( strategy) light on how to make profit from farming cucumber, mass production don't equates huge profit, true fact! Ayam coming.... do you have interest drop comment..
emmaachile2: He may not have the answer as I think he has not planted it before. That number is too small in yield for Mydaz except you don't know what you are doing.
I still even have an old Mydaz cucumber and Colombia watermelon plant more than 12/16 weeks old with about 7 upcoming cucumber fruits on it and still even flowering in my compound.
I may document my next plants including Diva F1 tomato and Maradona f1 papaya from east west, Mydaz RZ F1 and Colombia RZ f1. We will be patiently waiting sir.
emmaachile2: 5g per plant is applying into the soil usually in two weeks interval. If you fertigate, you cannot apply more than 15g per every 20 litres water except you want to burn your crops. 10g per 20 litres water is usually recommended. The difference between fertigation and side dressing is that fertigation is very fast for plant uptake compared to side dressing but it cannot be applied in lump sum as the other guy advised.
ok sir, so if I am correct this maxi npk can be used for both fertigation and side dressing. I am looking at making use of venturi fertilizer injector.
ideepaul: He didn't fertigate, that's why I said not more than 5g per plant, fertigating is a different ballgame entirely, you don't apply in lump-sum, just in little quantities but more frequently!
Cocoboms: It's actually very possible. Have grown 4 stands of Mydas f1 in my garden before. One thing I noticed is that it has very good continuity in production. Only thing is that you'll need to feed mydas plant very well and use a very very tall stake, if you want to get good results. First flush of fruit could be up to 6 at once, 2nd flush can comfortably produce 4 fruits with good agronomic practices. I have experienced that. But mind you, it was only 4 stands in my home garden. Replicating such commercially is always a challenge. Another thing I love about Mydas f1 is that it's 100% parthenocarpic. Read that up if you don't know what it means.
I understand about parthenocarpic right from my school days, seedless only female seeds, develop fruit without pollination. You can spray all the imidacloprid, dimethoate systemic pesticide of this world without worrying about bees toxicity. But as an environmental agronomist I use only fast degrading Contact or botanical during flowering.

ideepaul: Maxi potassium nitrate by jubaili should be a lil cheaper than that, but thingz are changing though! Just don't apply more than 5g per stand, watch out for the taste, size, and yield, and report to the house on this later. Btw, I hope the cucumber planting without manure will NEVER cross your mind again!
pls I will like to get your clarification on this 5g per stand, do you calculate your plant population and dissolve in water times the 5gram each and fertigate, or u just measure on a spoon n apply near plant for water to Dissolve it into the soil thanks.
emmaachile2: I don't think I have Mydaz cucumber seeds anymore but I will check. If available, I will alert you here. You should a variety in mind. I have programs schedule for Mydaz RZ F1 and there is a crop guide from east west for cucumbers too.
The schedule for each variety is different but similar. Mydaz F1 produces average of 20 fruits per plant and can't be compared to other varieties with less than 10 fruits averagely. The fertlization /spray program will definitely be different.
Good day sir, this mydas hw do you compare the average fruit size to murano 2f1 or cu99 . I want to try the mydaz variety .
aquadude15: I have being cultivating both lands. 5k per bag. I planted greengo. I wet with hose. spacing between both plant is 1feet. I use only manure
, Good day please I asked this question recently can you assist me. The average number of greengo cucs inside a bag.
aquadude15: I have being cultivating both lands. 5k per bag. I planted greengo. I wet with hose. spacing between both plant is 1feet. I use only manure
I Greet you sir, pls like the average amount of greengo cucs in your 1 bag is how many.
okoroemeka: this is exactly the sort of wrong planting techniques we are planning to eliminate, the seed company recommends 60cm spacing for a reason,we battle downy mildrew, different insects, poor pollination, poor ventilation, poor yield, fast crop death, small fruits, etc,I have a feeling that spacing has a lot in connection with those problems
Bozz okoro I greet u sir, right from the first page of your thread to this present one, I observed you plant the seeds on one part of the drip line. But i have been planting both sides. Don't know is that much sir.
okoroemeka: nothing can be done to save affected crops, only pray for mild cool weather,if sun blast too much the damaged roots cannot supply enough water to support the crop, that's why they wilt and die.
okoroemeka: leave that affected area for at least 6 months to break the life cycle of those worms, before you plant again, till properly, prepare your planting holes and apply at least 2-3 grams of wormforce to each hole before applying manure
Thanks bozz....But any quick remedy to prevent further damage.
okoroemeka: I have received feedbacks from many farmers around Nigeria and from these information I found out that planting cucumbers at 30cm spacing does not improve yield,I got very interesting feedbacks from 3 farmers that used 60cm spacing, one farmer is in Edo ,the other kwara and osun state, they managed to harvest 65-70 bags of cucumbers from 50 grams of seed I sent to them each, now this is were it gets interesting,we planted same 50grams but used 30cm spacing on the drip but just managed to get 30-40 bags,we are planning to prove beyond any doubt the effects of spacing on cucumber yield,we are preparing a site to receive 50 grams of seed at 60cm spacing,we will plant on Monday next week, production Target is 60 bags,we will update as usual with pictures, etc
my boss I observed u were busy due to other projects but thank God u r chanced now, pls I have started harvesting fruits but I observed about 5 to 6 stands of my matued plant just wiit no downy mildew or powdery mildew symptoms cause I use mancozeb, but I decided to remove the affected plant to observe, I saw small worms in the root region. I Googled I saw root worms. But my problem is that I applied furadan prior to planting. For soil insects or fake furadan is in the market. Currently I am treating affected area with chlophoryfos drenching the area affected. Any way forward to prevent such cases in future. As I still observed 2 stands today again.
okoroemeka massive...post=101565199: many people are suffering due to lack of knowledge,I am happy to see that the small ideas we have are impacting positively on people's life's,I am still following the foot steps of the Pathfinder, Jasper 7,he is the one that started the ball rolling,it is left for us to keep the ball rolling,I am sorry for the erratic and lack of interesting posts ,we are neck deep in 3 projects,(1)500 plots for super Gene oil palm+ cassava(not a funny project)on virgin land,(2)25 plots habanero pepper,(3)10 plot habanero pepper, most times I will be walking and sleeping,
