EMW01:
It has all to do with price, the aw139 is cheaper than the mi-17(its main competitor in africa) whose cost has increased significantly over the past few years. Based on 2013 costs a new aw139 was approximately 12m USD while an new mi-17 was around 16-18m USD. The American and French medium helicopters are out of price range for most Africa countries.
But isn't the Mi-17 more reliable/Durable - Even the Presidents oficial chopper is an Mi-17

Unless they bought them purely for aesthetics for VIP transport I don't see how that price difference would outweigh the advantages of an Mi-17..... especially in compbat operation, I dont expect to see the aw139 doing this in Somalia , I would rather they had bought it for the Navy for sea patrol and search and rescue far away from the hot and dusty environments..

Whats with the obsession with Agusta, AW109,139 --- At this rate we should force them to bring an assembly plant to Africa

What we need ideally is a tribunal for EVERYONE with clear simple rules! In a week or two max, your application is approved or denied-shotties,pistols,rifles and auto weapons but nothing military grade,ie above .50 BMG. If misused even once heavy jail time and permanent blacklisting.
I think in the revised rules application for a licence is 2k and will be paid online through the E-citizen platform just like you would when applying of passport, or certificate of good conduct which is also required to get the licence, and also a Drs leter from a public hospital declaring that you are sane(ish).... If all goes week it shouldn't take more than 2 months...

I am however curious about how you go about once you have a licence and want to order your gun from outside the country...

A member of Kenya airforce QRF taking over a situation from regular KDF inside an FOB in Somalia.
Why do special forces units have different ways of handling/positioning their rifles compared to regular troops. Aren't they all supposed to shoot as quick as they can get to the trigger, and if the SF's way is better shouldn't that be the standard for everyone else? Or do they just like to look different/cool

Once again, the presient has been caught driving himself around town, one of these days it wont be a laughing matter

........ The president has lately formed a habit of abandoning his aides and security team for impromptu car tours. Last month at the Kisumu International Airport, he surprised his security team by getting into one of his official vehicles, a black Toyota V8 with a civilian number plate, and followed ODM leader Raila Odinga.

I noticed them too, At first I thought there patches on the shoulder looked like KDF insignia but there green landcruisers had 'Police' written on them...

Anyway, I noticed the cyalume illumination sticks on his vest, I gues they used them to mark areas they had already cleared

blur the faces of you have to, you don't even have to explain the where or when they were taken... I've seen some officers post selfies on some Facebook groups I don't think ppl get in trouble for that as long as it's not sensitive posts that jeopardize operations or embarrass the institution..
