Bees are winged insects closely related to wasps and ants, known for their roles in pollination and, in the case of the best-known bee species, the western honey bee, for producing honey. Bees are a monophyletic lineage within the superfamily Apoidea.

They are currently considered a clade, called Anthophila.

There are over 20,000 known species of bees in seven recognized biological families, Some species including honey bees, bumblebees, and stingless bees live socially in colonies while most species including mason bees, carpenter bees, leafcutter bees, and sweat bees are solitary.

HUSBAND OF 13YEARS WHO FAILED TO SETUP A BUSINESS FOR HIS WIFE AS PROMISED, THREATENS TO DESTROY HER BUSINESS IF SHE DOES NOT PAY HIM BACK 5MILLION NAIRA LOAN

Hello, My husband is a proper businessman. He imports and exports ranges of goods. He is doing well for himself. Before getting married to him about 13years ago while I was a corps member, he promised to set up a business for me as his wife as I had told him of my dream of not just being a housewife which he did not do even though he provides for our two children and I. I pleaded with him to no avail.

So two years ago, I approached him for a loan of 5million naira to set up a supermarket. He borrowed me but warned that after a year, I am to pay him back within 1year with an interest rate of 1%per month. He insisted that I sign some papers as he cannot just dash me free money all because I am his wife. I jokingly signed as I thought he was just trying to make sure I take the business serious. I used my brother and mother as guarantors.

Since the beginning of this year, he has been threatening to arrest me and my guarantors if I do not pay back his money. I try to laugh it off but he keeps making serious threats. Few days ago, he promised to make the house unbearable for me, sell my supermarket or destroy it if I don’t pay him back in full by the end of the first week of March. Am I supposed to pay my own husband back? With interest? Could he be serious? Could it all be a prank? Can he possibly go that far? Where do I see that amount from in this economy? What do I do? How do I handle this? Please advise me?

Russia is a great country most of these USA sanctions are not working. They have oil and gas and produces 90% of the products they used domestically and even export abroad. They are super world power and don't depend on any country to defend them in case of any aggression from the West and NATO. I think USA is playing politics here always using sanctions to percefy the West.

How I wish US and Europe can extend this same sanctions to Israel

The US has announced more than 500 new sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine and the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

These include measures against Russia's main card payment system, financial and military institutions, and officials involved in Navalny's imprisonment.

The EU has also announced new sanctions on access to military technology.

The measures mark a week since Navalny suddenly died in an Arctic Circle jail.

US President Joe Biden, who met Navalny's widow and daughter in San Francisco on Thursday, has said there can be "no doubt" the Russian president was to blame for his death

The newly-announced US measures also include nearly 100 firms and individuals which will also face export restrictions.

Others target the state-owned operator of Mir, Russia's main payment system, which has become more prominent since Visa and Mastercard suspended their services there.

Companies involved in powering Russia's war effort, developing the country's future energy production and its co-operation with Iran over drones will also be hit.

More than two dozen entities outside of Russia - including people in China, the UAE, Vietnam and Liechtenstein - have also been sanctioned, accused of being connected to businesses that send materials to Russia's military.

The sanctions are unlikely to have an impact on Russia's economy. It is already the most sanctioned country in the world, and there are very few key entities or sectors that are not already subject to US and European restrictions.

Russian banks and military-industrial enterprises have adapted, and developed workarounds to evade existing sanctions
Ukrainian officials have published details of US and European microchips and other technology they have found in captured Russian drones. Many of these parts are imported to Russia from third countries such as China.

In a statement, President Biden said they new sanctions would "ensure" Russian President Vladimir Putin "pays an even steeper price for his aggression abroad and repression at home".

This latest package brings the number of entities sanctioned to over 4,000, and comes on the eve of the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

"Two years ago, he tried to wipe Ukraine off the map. If Putin does not pay the price for his death and destruction, he will keep going," Mr Biden said in the statement.

John Kirby, the spokesperson for the National Security Council, told reporters on Friday that the administration had plans for further action against Russia, but needed to work with international partners and gain greater legal authority from Congress to implement it.

The EU also announced its 13th raft of sanctions on Friday, targeting nearly 200 companies and people accused of helping Russia procure weapons, or of involvement in kidnapping Ukrainian children - something Moscow denies.

They included 10 Russian companies and individuals involved in the shipping of North Korean armaments to Russia, including North Korea's defence minister.

"We remain united in our determination to dent Russia's war machine and help Ukraine win its legitimate fight for self-defence," said EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell.

The EU has now listed more than 2,000 individuals since the war started.

In response, Russia's foreign ministry said it had significantly expanded a list of EU officials and politicians banned from entering Russia.

"The European Union is continuing its fruitless attempts to put pressure on Russia through unilateral restrictive measures," it said in a statement.

The Russian president himself was sanctioned by the US, EU and UK days after the start of Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. His assets were frozen and companies were banned from providing them with goods.

People close to him, including his daughters, are also under sanctions.

The International Criminal Court served Mr Putin with an arrest warrant last year, alleging he was responsible for war crimes and focusing on the deportation of children from Ukraine to Russia.

Mr Putin regularly praises the performance of the Russian economy in spite of international sanctions."We have growth, [the West has] decline," he said last month during a visit to the remote Russian region of Chukotka. "They depend on us more than we depend on them."

Its economy is around 1% larger than it was in February 2022. Moscow can still find plenty of buyers for oil, gas and minerals, especially in Asia. But Western officials say this is a marathon, not a sprint, and sanctions can take years to show results.

Why secret burial? the death of Alexei Navalny has made me to dislike Putin
Foreign AffairsAlexei Navalny’s Mother Given Hours To Agree To Secret Burial by Fineman2(op): 8:44pm On Feb 23, 2024
Russia authorities have so far refused to hand over the opposition leader’s body – as Western nations line up to sanction the Kremlin over his death

Russian authorities told Alexei Navalny’s mother that she had mere hours to decide whether to agree to a secret funeral for her son or allow him to be buried in an Arctic prison where he died, his spokesperson has claimed.

In a statement on Twitter/X, Kira Yarmysh said Navalny’s 69-year-old mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya, had refused the ultimatum, insisting that they did not have the legal right to offer it.

An investigator called Alexey’s mother and gave her an ultimatum. Either she agrees to a secret funeral without a public farewell within 3 hours, or Alexey will be buried in the colony,” Ms Yarmysh wrote.

“She refused to negotiate as they are not authorised to decide how and where her son should be buried. She is demanding compliance with the law, according to which investigators are obliged to hand over the body within two days of establishing the cause of death.

“According to the medical documents she signed, these two days expire tomorrow. She insists that the authorities allow the funeral and memorial service to take place in accordance with normal practice.”

Navalny, 47, Russia’s most well-known opposition leader, unexpectedly died last Friday in the Arctic “Polar Wolf” penal colony, with his wife Yulia accusing Vladimir Putin of killing her husband and then hiding the body to allow traces of the nerve agent novichok to disappear from his system.

Western leaders have lined up to accuse the Kremlin over the killing of Navalny. On Friday, the US and the European Union heaped new sanctions on Russia on the eve of the second anniversary of its invasion of Ukraine and in retaliation for Navalany’s death.

In specific response to Navalny’s death, the state department targeted three Russian officials the US says are connected to his death, including the deputy director of Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service, who was promoted by Mr Putin to the rank of colonel general on Monday, three days after Navalny died. The sanctions bar the officials from travelling to the US and block access to US-owned property. But they appear largely symbolic given that the officials are unlikely to travel to or have assets or family in the West. Earlier this week, Britain froze the assets of six chiefs of the “Polar Wolf” prison and banned them from the UK.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said to “expect more” action later related to Navalny's death, adding that “today this just a start”.

The US government also imposed roughly 600 new sanctions on Russia and its war machine in the largest single round of penalties since Russia’s invasion began. The EU, for its part, added sanctions on several foreign companies over allegations that they have exported dual-use goods to Russia that could be used in its war against Ukraine.

President Joe Biden said the sanctions come in response to Mr Putin’s “brutal war of conquest” and to Navalny’s death.

“We in the United States are going to continue to ensure that Putin pays a price for his aggression abroad and repression at home,” Mr Biden said.

Navalny’s mother and lawyers have been trying to retrieve his body since late last week – drawing support from prominent Russians – but have faced resistance from the authorities.

Navalny’s mother said on Thursday that investigators allowed her to see her son’s body in the morgue in the Arctic city of Salekhard. She said she repeated her demand to have Navalny’s body returned to her and accused authorities of “blackmailing” her into holding a secret burial with no mourners. “They want it to do it secretly without a mourning ceremony,” she said.

Ms Navalnaya also said she was made to sign a death certificate saying her son died of natural causes.

Authorities in Russia have detained hundreds of people as they seek to suppress any major outpouring of sympathy for Mr Putin’s fiercest foe before a presidential election he is certain to win next month.

Posting on social media, prominent Russians have appealed directly to Mr Putin to demand that he return Navalny’s body to his family.

“Just give Lyudmila her son,” Nobel prize-winning journalist Dmitry Muratov said, adding, “It’s awkward to talk about this in a country that still considers itself Christian.”

Nadya Tolokonnikova, who became widely known after spending nearly two years in prison for taking part in a 2012 protest with the band Pussy Riot inside Moscow’s Christ the Saviour Cathedral, also released a video.

“We were imprisoned for allegedly trampling on traditional values. But no one tramples on traditional Russian values more than you, Putin, your officials and your priests who pray for all the murder that you do, year after year, day after day,” Ms Tolokonnikova said.

“Putin, have a conscience, give his mother the body of her son,” she added.

Navalny’s mother has filed a lawsuit at a court in Salekhard contesting officials’ refusal to release her son’s body. A closed-door hearing has been scheduled for 4 March.

The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has approved the construction of a 16-kilometre road to end a 46-year-old land dispute between the Nigerian Air Force Tactical Air Command Makurdi, and its host communities.

The move comes after a meeting he held with a delegation from the Air Force, as well as representatives of Ugondo and Mbaivur communities to discuss ways to resolve the lingering land dispute.

At the meeting on Wednesday in Makurdi, the state capital, Governor Alia said the road would link the borders of Makurdi and Gwer-West, up to the Gwer-West boundary with the Gboko Local Government Area, to make the communities more accessible.

According to him, resolving the dispute will attract more Federal Government presence, thereby bringing more development to the state.

The Governor thanked the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, for his efforts to ensure that the decades-long dispute was resolved, and reiterated his administration’s readiness to ensure that more developmental projects are brought into the state.

He added that the road would serve as a permanent boundary between the natives and the Air Force.

Earlier in his address, the leader of the delegation and the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Nigerian Air Force, Makurdi, AVM F. O. Edahosa, noted that efforts made in the past to resolve the land dispute had failed.

According to him; the Chief of Air Staff has also shown interest in the resolution of the case, considering how strategic Benue State is.

He appreciated the Governor for his tireless efforts and desire to ensure peace in the state, pointing to some of the meetings the governor had held with the heads of different security agencies since he assumed office.

Responding, the Mue Ter Ugondo, Chief Clement Kurugh, and Amir Ishor, the representative of the Ter Makurdi, all appreciated the governor and the Chief of Air Staff for wading into the land dispute, saying they trust the governor’s efforts to resolve the issue and bring a lasting solution.

Foreign AffairsIsrael To Establish Over 3,300 Settlement Units In Occupied West Bank by Fineman2(op): 12:05pm On Feb 23, 2024
If approved, project to be largest settlement decision since Oct. 7

The Israeli authorities intend to approve within the next two weeks the establishment of more than 3,300 settlement units in the occupied West Bank, according to official Israeli media.

“The relevant committee is expected to meet within two weeks to approve the establishment of 2,350 housing units in the Maaleh Adumim settlement, about 300 in the Kedar settlement, and 700 units in the Efrat settlement,” the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said on Friday.

The decision comes in response to the shooting attack on Thursday near the Maaleh Adumim settlement, which resulted in the death of an Israeli soldier and the wounding of at least eight others.

“A section of the road leading to Al-Za’im checkpoint east of East Jerusalem will be closed to Palestinian movement for a period of at least two weeks,” it added.

If the settlement project is approved, it will be the largest settlement decision since the Israeli war on Gaza on Oct. 7.

The current Israeli government, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is known for its great support for settlement in the Palestinian territories.

Estimates indicate about 700,000 Israeli settlers live in roughly 300 illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

All Jewish settlements in the occupied territories are considered illegal under international law.

Tensions have been running high across the West Bank since Israel launched a deadly military offensive against the Gaza Strip following an Oct. 7 Hamas attack.

More than 400 Palestinians have since been killed and 4,400 others injured by Israeli army fire in the occupied territory, according to the Health Ministry.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice over its deadly onslaught on the Gaza Strip, which has left more than 29,500 people dead.

In an interim ruling in January, the Hague-based court ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.

The Benue State Security Council has handed a 14-day ultimatum to herders violating the state’s anti-open grazing law to stop rearing their animals outside ranches.

The Benue State Security Council has handed a 14-day ultimatum to herders violating the state’s anti-open grazing law to stop rearing their animals outside ranches or have themselves to be blamed.

Our correspondent reports that the security council meeting which was chaired by Governor Hyacinth Alia resolved that herders must comply with the state’s Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Law (2017), insisting that the law is still in force.

Addressing journalists at the Government House in Makurdi on Tuesday night, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, said the council also constituted a seven-man committee to ensure the enforcement of the ultimatum given to the violators which began on Wednesday, February 21st, 2024.

The council further called on herders who recently flooded the state with their cattle grazing openly to immediately leave the state and return to where they came from, warning those who invited them to immediately desist from the act.

Meanwhile, the council urged people of the state to remain calm and be security conscious as the state government is making efforts to secure the lives and property of all citizens.

The security council, therefore, tasked security agencies, traditional rulers and the general public to report for prosecution any person in the habit of collaborating and inviting the armed herders into the state.

The council added that the hardship and looming food insecurity across the nation was being looked into and urged the people of Benue State to remain calm as efforts are being put in place by the government to address the challenge.

Benue State is one of the north central states in Nigeria that has been ravaged by herders/farmers crisis for over a decade now, with the promulgation and implementation of the anti-open grazing law exacerbating the crisis.
