Mercedes-Benz has announced it is leaving the Russian market over the Russia-Ukraine war.

German carmaker Mercedes-Benz is expected to sell its Russian assets to a local investor, the Russian Industry and Trade Ministry said Wednesday, October 26, becoming the latest automaker to exit since Moscow sent troops to Ukraine.

"Mercedes-Benz intends to sell its shares in Russian subsidiaries to a local investor," Avtodom, the ministry said in a Telegram statement.

"The new owner of the Russian divisions of Mercedes-Benz, Avtodom, will be able to attract other companies as partners for joint productions," the ministry added.

Mercedes-Benz confirmed its intention to sell in a separate statement.

"The fulfillment of obligations to customers in Russia... as well as the preservation of jobs for employees of the Russian divisions of the company" were the priority in concluding the deal with Avtodom, general director of Mercedes-Benz-RUS Natalya Koroleva said.

"The completion of the transaction is subject to the approval of all relevant authorities," Mercedes-Benz said in the statement.

Many Western companies left Russia for ethical or logistical reasons since Moscow launched what it calls a "special military operation" in Ukraine on Feb. 24.

No financial details of the transaction were provided by either side on Wednesday.

Western sanctions imposed on Russia since the beginning of the Ukraine offensive have heavily disrupted supply chains affecting mostly technology and car manufacturing sectors.

@fira09. I'm @fahdiga. Bro based on what you asked me in the other thread. I can't use my main moniker and that frontpage thread to answer your questions because of trolls since you know how toxic this place is. Reason why I have to use this moniker and abandoned thread. The thing is that I recently lost my job and haven't gotten another one yet. You know how Nigeria is right now so things haven't been easy for me since and I decided to lay low for some time now. Pls if there's anyway you can help your brother from another mother I'll highly appreciate it. It is hard for me to beg but you won't understand. Thanks for your understanding.

Russia has started sending men who refuse to pay child maintenance to the front lines in Ukraine.

Sochi, a city in Russia is responding to pressure from ex-wives and sweeping up men dodging maintenance payments, ordering them to the front, revealed leading Putin TV propagandist Margarita Simonyan.

Then the money to pay alimony is taken from their military earnings as mobilised soldiers, or family compensation if they are killed, and handed to the mothers of their children.

According to UK Mirror, angry Russian women are also taking matters into their own hands by providing enlistment officers details of their former partners who fail to pay alimony ordered in divorce settlements.

TV presenter Dana Borisova, a former Playboy model, and Russian army pin-up, is also demanding a call-up for her own ex-husband with whom she is in a legal dispute.

She and ex-Maksim Aksyonov, 42, are in a long-running legal dispute concerning support for their teenage daughter.

“I have a malicious non-payer of alimony living in my neighbour's house - the father of my daughter,” alleged Borisova, now 46.

“Unfortunately, he did not yet receive a [military] summons.

“I sincerely think that it would be great if he showed responsibility, if not in relation to his daughter, then at least in relation to his country.”

She is convinced that "such non-payers can only be taught by being sent to the frontline…

“If not this, then what else can fix them?”

At 22, Borisova was hailed as a “national institution”, a pinup for Russian soldiers, credited with raising morale among draftees in a Defence Ministry-backed TV show called Army Store.

Other abandoned women highlighted by investigative outlet Verstka are reporting defaulting dads to military enlistment offices.

One woman, Lilya Sergeyeva, said her non-paying former spouse had been sentenced to “corrective labour” for failing to pay maintenance - but this did not help her or their daughter, 17, who he had played no part in raising.

Sergeyeva wanted him to serve in the war.

“It will even be good if he gets killed,” she posted.

State compensation payouts for relatives of those killed runs to £180,000.

Ardent Putin propagandist Simonyan, 42, told on video how loyalist Sochi mayor Alexey Kopaygorodsky, 37, is chasing defaulting Dads and sending them to the front.

She explained: ”[The Mayor of Sochi told me that] we took a list of persistent non-payers of alimony from the bailiffs and sent them [to the front].

“People who do not repay their debt even to their children will now not only do that but also will pay child support from very decent military payments. And these people will repay their Motherland.”

“The most interesting thing is that we do not see a single complaint from Sochi.”

An Iranian man nicknamed the “dirtiest man in the world” for not taking a shower for decades has died at the age of 94, state media reported on Tuesday.

Amou Haji, who did not wash for more than half a century and was single, died on Sunday in the village of Dejgah in the southern province of Fars, IRNA news agency reported.

Haji had avoided showering over fears of “getting sick”, the agency quoted a local official as saying.

But “for the first time a few months ago, villagers had taken him to a bathroom to wash,” IRNA reported.

A short documentary film titled “The Strange Life of Amou Haji” was made about his life in 2013, according to Iranian media outlets.

Rishi Sunak on Tuesday, October 25, became the UK’s prime minister following a meeting with King Charles III.

The tradition sees the monarch invite the leader of the party with the highest number of MPs to form a government, which since the 2019 general election has been the Conservatives.

In a speech outside 10 Downing Street after the meeting, Sunak said: "Our country is facing a profound economic crisis. The aftermath of Covid still lingers, Putin’s war in Ukraine has destabilized energy markets and supply chains the world over."

He paid tribute to his predecessor Liz Truss, who he said was "not wrong" to want to improve U.K. growth.

He said, "some mistakes were made," not "borne of ill will or bad intentions" but "mistakes nonetheless" and he had been elected "in part to fix them."

He added: "I will place economic stability and confidence at the heart of the government’s agenda. This will mean difficult decisions to come. But you saw me during Covid doing everything I could to protect people and businesses with schemes like furlough. There are always limits, more so than ever, but I promise you this. I will bring that same compassion to the challenges we face today."

Sunak is now expected to begin appointing new cabinet figures in yet another reshuffle at the top of British politics.

He was elected party leader by fellow Conservative lawmakers on Monday, October 24, following the resignation of Truss on Thursday, October 20.

Sunak is the third prime minister the UK will have in one year.

Images of students wearing "anti-cheating hats" during college exams have gone viral on social media in the Philippines.

Engineering students from Albay, Bicol, in the Philippines are trending online after they were asked to wear headgear that would prevent them peeking at others' papers during their exams.

The students did a good job and came up with creative ways to don their 'anti-cheating' hats by making homemade contraptions out of cardboard, egg boxes and other recycled materials.

Mary Joy Mandane-Ortiz, a professor of mechanical engineering at Bicol University College of Engineering, said the idea had been "really effective".

Prof Mandane-Ortiz said her initial request had been for students to make a "simple" design out of paper.

Prof Mandane-Ortiz said her engineers-in-training took the idea and ran with it - in some cases innovating complex headgear in "just five minutes" with any junk they found lying around.

Others donned hats, helmets or Halloween masks to fulfil the brief.

According to the professor, all of the students finished their tests early and nobody was caught cheating this year.

Fira09,ghettokid1,Lamasta,Pells,yellowgarri2,fergie001 and other nairalanders do you know how these group draws are made

The draw for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is in and it has not been kind to the Matildas.

The Matildas have been drawn into Group B alongside Ireland, Canada and Nigeria, close to the worst-possible result from the draw and described by Heather Garriock as the “Group of Death”.

Canada is the reigning Olympic champions and recently beat the Matildas in back-to-back games last month down under despite an understrength squad. They are the highest-ranked opponent (seventh) Australia could have drawn from their pot.

The Republic of Ireland were the third-highest ranked team in their pot (24th), but beat the Matildas last year.

The final opponent, Nigeria, were the highest-ranked team in their pot (45th), are the most successful team in African history, having won the last three Africa Women’s Cup of Nations titles before losing it this year.

“Obviously the teams are tough,” Matildas and Arsenal star Steph Catley told Optus Sport.

“Ireland is tricky, we just watched them in a few playoff games and they played really well, defended really well. Canada just won the Olympics and Nigeria has some incredible players too and African teams are really tough to play at major tournaments.

“It’s a tough group but if you want to win, you’ve got to beat everyone. I think obviously Canada is really tough. We played them recently.

“We didn’t have a full squad but they have great players who play in some of the best leagues in the world. That’s one we’ll definitely look at early in terms of our preparation.”

Looking past the group stage, the Matildas have also copped a tough road to glory on home soil.

If the Matildas finish first in Group B, they will face the runner-up from Group D. If the Matildas finish second in Group B, they will face the winner from that group. But Group D includes two brutal possible opponents in England and Denmark.

Australia will host the showpiece tournament alongside New Zealand, where the official draw took place in Auckland with hundreds of famous faces including Kiwi Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

New Zealand will host the opening match of the tournament, against heavyweights Norway. The, on July 20 at Sydney Football Stadium, the Matildas will face Republic of Ireland in their first match.

In other notable matches, two-time reigning champions the USA have been drawn against the Netherlands in a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final.

Luxury fashion label, Balenciaga, has officially cut ties with Billionaire rapper and long time collaborator, Kanye West following his recent string of antisemitic and offensive remarks.

Balenciaga began distancing itself from West following his controversial appearance on the podcast Drink Champs released last week, where he falsely claimed that George Floyd wasn’t murdered but killed by fentanyl.

On Oct. 17, the fashion giant issued a statement saying West’s runway look from Balenciaga’s Spring 2023 show at Paris Fashion Week had been deleted from Vogue Runway, as well as the Balenciaga website.

Additionally, Balenciaga said it had removed a section on its website dedicated to the three Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga collaborations, which launched earlier this year. Those items were also no longer available on other online retailers.

Following its third-quarter earnings report Thursday, October 20,2022, the fashion label’s parent company Kering said in a statement to WWD, “Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist.”

With Balenciaga severing ties, West has lost one of his closest and oldest partners in the luxury fashion world. The two have been entwined for years, largely thanks to West’s long-standing relationship with the fashion house’s creative director Demna Gvasalia, which dates back to around 2014, when Vestments — the label Demna founded with his brother, Guram Gvasalia broke through in the fashion world.

In 2015, the Gvaslia brothers consulted West on his Yeezy Season 1 line, and by the end of the year, Demna was signed to head up Balenciaga.

West and Demna’s relationship really solidified in 2019. The two texted constantly and eventually started working together again, with Demna serving as the creative director on West’s Donda listening parties in 2021.

“With Ye, I have something that I don’t really have with other people, where anything is possible,” Demna told The Times last year. “For me, talking with him is like going back in time to the 8-year-old me who doesn’t have all these barriers and filters. We spent like two and a half hours talking about buttons. Those kinds of conversations help me to evolve as a designer because I think: ‘Yeah, why do we do it like this? Why buttons? Why packaging?’ I never thought about that before.”
