Doctors have removed a 100-pound tumour from a woman's body that she had been living with for five years.
The Brazilian woman, who stood 4-foot-9 and weighed 330 pounds, had reported to the clinic after suffering from shortness of breath, allegedly caused by the massive tumour.
There, doctors discovered that her midsection harbored a tumor weighing 100 pounds — as much as a baby hippo and comprising nearly a third of her body weight.
Surgeons removed the tumour in an operation that lasted 2 hours, giving the woman a new lease on life.
Photos of the tumour are currently blowing up on Facebook after Dr. Boechat shared them online. The photos depict the growth before and after extraction from the woman’s body.
"It is not every day you operate on a tumor of that size!" presiding surgeon Glaucio Boechat told Jam Press of the unprecedented procedure, which went down on Aug. 31 at the Hospital São José do Avaí in Rio de Janeiro.
He added: "It was the biggest tumor I have operated on and certainly one of the biggest that anyone has ever removed."
After a brief evaluation, the team decided to remove the titanic tumor immediately.
"There were about 13 or 14 people in the operating theatre," Boechat described."The whole hospital mobilized to perform the procedure for the patient."
Two hours later, the tumour was extracted and the patient is "stable, and breathing without the help of any equipment," according to the doctor.
Scientists speculated that the mass originated in the woman’s uterus but won’t know for sure until the results of the biopsy arrive in approximately 20 days, Jam Press reported.

Liz Truss is widely expected to be confirmed as Britain’s new prime minister today, September 5, before officially taking over from Boris Johnson a day later.
Boris Johnson was forced to announce his resignation in July after months of scandal and will travel to Scotland to meet Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday to officially tender his resignation.
The Foreign Secretary is believed to be on course to comfortably beat former Chancellor Rishi Sunak to the keys to Number 10, which would make her Britain’s 56th PM.
Truss, the front runner in the race to replace Johnson, if appointed, will become the Conservatives' fourth prime minister since a 2015 election.
Confirmation of the result will come at 12.30pm. In a break from tradition on Tuesday, Mr. Johnson and his successor will go to Balmoral rather than Buckingham Palace to meet Queen Elizabeth, who will ask the new leader to form a government.
The Sunday Times reported that the pair would fly there in separate planes for security reasons.
Ms. Truss will start work as PM on the flight back, barring a major upset unexpectedly putting Mr. Sunak in charge.
The Queen will receive Mr. Johnson at her Aberdeenshire home, where he will formally tender his resignation.
On Tuesday, the winner will travel to Scotland to meet Queen Elizabeth, who will ask the new leader to form a government.
The new PM inherits a flagging economy, with inflation at a 40-year high.
Ms. Truss, tipped by pollsters to win the contest, has promised to announce further help to shield consumers within a week of taking over. She plans to deliver £30bn in tax cuts through an emergency Budget later this month, arguing the UK's tax burden is behind sluggish growth.
Her rival, former chancellor Mr. Sunak, has signalled he believes he has lost, saying his job "now is just to support a Conservative government".
She is planning a significant intervention this week, where tens of billions of pounds will be committed to helping with rising bills and inflation. That will include tax cuts and help for families and businesses. Expect her to also talk about an energy strategy to protect the UK against further turbulence in years to come.

Dozens of critics of Russian leader Vladimir Putin have died in mysterious circumstances over the past few years – many of them apparently jumping or falling from windows
Ravil Maganov, boss of oil giant Lukoil, is the latest high-profile critic of Russian leader Vladimir Putin to have died from a mysterious fall from a window.
It’s a fate that is all too common for critics of Putin’s regime.
The official report says that Maganov, who had issued a statement opposing the war on Ukraine, “fell from a window at Central clinical hospital” where he was being treated for a mysterious “severe illness” that has not been specified.
According to Russian Telegram channel General SVR, which frequently posts nuggets of gossip from inside the Kremlin, Maganov was “beaten' before he was 'thrown out of a window’.
Putin critic Dan Rapoport, a prominent critic of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, was found dead outside an apartment building in Washington DC in August this year, just weeks after he mocked Russia's nuclear capabilities and said Putin’s army was becoming “weaker every day".https://i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk/incoming/article27895137.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/1_Image.jpgThere is widespread suspicion that the death of Dan Rapoport was not a suicide
Bill Browder, an American financier who was formerly based in Moscow, said the circumstances of Rapoport’s death were “extremely suspicious”.
In an eerie coincidence, Rapoport’s former business partner, Sergei Tkachenko, fell to his death from a Moscow apartment building in 2017.
While Zhalo appeared to have fallen to his death from an upper floor of the building, no official cause of death was established because the embassy refused an autopsy and German prosecutors have no jurisdiction because of Zhalo's diplomatic status.
Zhalo was the son of prominent FSB officer Lieutenant General Alexei Zhalo, who has been linked to the poisonings of numerous Putin opponents, including Alexei Navalny.
The Covid-19 pandemic saw a number of Russian healthcare experts fall from hospital windows, and in December 2020, Alexander "Sasha" Kagansky, a top Russian scientist involved in vaccine research, died after falling from his high-rise apartment in St. Petersburg.
His body was found to have a stab wound along with multiple injuries from his fall.
Some of them, such as Nikolai Glushkov, were killed by unknown assailants that are believed to be connected to Russian intelligence.
Others have been recorded as suicides, even though the dead men showed no signs of depression or other triggers.
Russia expert David Satter, who in 2013 became the first American reporter thrown out of Moscow since the Cold War, says “There’s an old saying that anyone can commit a murder but it takes brains to commit a suicide."
