As the 2023 election approaches, the Middle-Belt Congress (MBC) has told the vice presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Kashim Shettima, to resign as Bola Tinubu’s running mate, ‘to save the party from perceived impending electoral misfortune’.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that MBC’s leader, Bilal Abdullahi, made this demand while speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.

MBC expressed its aversion to the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“The Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC comes with its attendant political baggage,” Abdullahi said.

“If the APC, as a party, is desirous of making any meaningful impact in the 2023 presidential elections, it behooves on the party to retrace its steps in the composition of its presidential ticket.

“We are constrained to believe that the self-confession of Senator Kashim Shettima towards the Christian community might be a ruse, as his actions of late do not indicate that of a religious tolerant individual.

“It remains a statement that since the nomination of Senator Kashim Shettima, the APC evolved into a riotous organization with various stakeholders in abhorrence for the choice of a Northern Muslim at the detriment of credible and capable Northern Christians."

Nigerian Catholic priest serving in Malawi, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu has said some Nigerians opposing the presidential ambition of Peter Obi never had sense.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Fr Kelvin stated that the current movement for the Labour Party presidential candidate is not ordinary.

Citing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the LP and his wide acceptance across the country, the popular clergy described Obi’s ambition and move as a divine arrangement.

He called on the attackers of the former Anambra State governor to reverse, stating that they “can’t fight him and you can’t stop him. Just remove hands for im matter”.

According to the priest, every single person that had tried to pull the LP candidate down so far had “ended up killing and making a mess of their reputations”.

He wrote, “Whatever is following Mr. Peter Obi is not ordinary. If you sincerely reflect over every step he had taken so far, from leaving PDP to finding his running mate,cthe timing of his moves, accuracy of plans and thoughts. They are nothing but divine arrangements.

“Some of those fighting him actually never had sense before, but we never knew, we were even ‘gbaming’ them then. . .but with Peter Obi, every doubt about them has been totally removed

Another terrorists’ commander of the dreaded Boko Haram group, Alhaji Modu, popularly referred to as “Bem Bem” has been killed along with 27 other terrorrists by troops of the Operation Hadin Kai Air Task Force ATF, in Borno State.

DAILY POST learnt that Alhaji Modu was a renowned drug baron and armed robber before he joined the Boko Haram sect.

The terrorists’ commander and 27 of his gang members were killed during a military airstrike around Mandara mountains in Gwoza Local Government Area of the State.

While confirming the report, military sources disclosed that the operation was coordinated following credible intelligence reports which revealed that the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters had converged in large numbers in the area in readiness to launch fresh attack in some areas.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Sunday met with former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.

Obi met the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain at his residence in Lagos.

An ally of Fayose, Lere Olayinka, confirmed this in a post on his social media handle.

Lere Olayinka had shared photos of Fayose and the former Anambra State Governor, with the caption: “Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi visits former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose in his Lagos residence today.”

DAILY POST recalls that Obi dumped the PDP after obtaining the party’s presidential ticket to become the candidate of the Labour Party.

The purpose of Obi’s meeting with Fayose is not yet known, but there are insinuations that the Ekiti former governor might be planning to work for him in the 2023 election.

Fayose had earlier stated that he would not support the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over the way he and other PDP leaders treated Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State after the party’s primary.

Terrorist’s leader, Abdulkarim Faca-faca, suspected to be among the masterminds of the attack on President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance convoy to Katsina during the last Sallah holiday has been killed along with eight of his gang members.

Faca-faca was reportedly killed on Saturday in an airstrike by a team of the Nigerian Air Force when they raided some terrorists hangouts in Marina village in Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State.

According to a local source who crave for anonymity, aside those killed, many of the terrorists secured gun wounds, though they managed to escape. He also alleged that all their rustled cows were destroyed in the process.

Confirming the report to VANGUARD, Hon. Abduljalal Haruna Runka, the lawmaker representing Safana in Katsina State House of Assembly said,

[“It is true. Nigeria Air Force raid the area late evening on Saturday and continued with the mop up operation this morning. Abdulkarim Faca-faca and eight of his boys were killed in the attack. They were buried in Marina, his hometown this Sunday morning,” Runka disclosed.

In the same vein, the Katsina State Police Command says it succeeded in rescuing six kidnapped persons after it raided some terrorists hideouts at Tandama Village in Danja LGA of the State

SP Gambo Isah, Police Public Relations Officer, Katsina State disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

The statement reads: “On Saturday 6/08/2022, at about 0530hrs, based on credible intelligence, the command raided terrorists hideouts at Unguwan Dako, Tandama village, Danja LGA and succeeded in rescuing six kidnapped victims.

“Those rescued are: 52’years old Alh. Garba DanMallam, of Unguwar Nuhu, Danja LGA, Rabiu Idris 45, of the same address, Abba Samaila 38, of the same address, Yunusa Sani 54, of Layin Sani village, Kafur

Ishaq Yakub 40, of the same address, Danjuma Samaila 45, of the same address.”
