Politics › Re: Nigerians What Is Corruption? by Firefire(m): 9:12am On Oct 23, 2015 |
chrisxxx: For some time now we have heard that most of our leaders are corrupt. Former Rivers State governor at the heat of political battle with the former president had always hyped on how corrupt Jonathan's administration was. In the midst of that, there was an instance where it was quoted that Jonathan said that stealing was not corrruption. Just yesterday Amaechi was asked to explain what corrruption is. Amaechi in his reply said 'corruption is difficult to define'. In view of this one could infer that corruption has been ubiquitous in our system, because our leaders have not come to term with what corruption is. Or could it be there is no corruption at all and that has been the reason while it is difficult to fathom what it is actually? Sequel to the above reasoning, I make bold to ask fellow nairalanders-What is corruption? Answers to this may not just solve a Nigerian problem but may be of help to other African countries as well. What is corruption? Dictionaries defines corruption as “Dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery”. It also involves wrongdoing on the part of an authority or powerful party through means that are illegitimate, immoral, or incompatible with ethical standards. Corruption often results from patronage and is associated with bribery. TI defines corruption as “the abuse of entrusted power for private gain”. Political corruption is a manipulation of policies, institutions and rules of procedure in the allocation of resources and financing by political decision makers, who abuse their position to sustain their power, status and wealth. Corruption involves giving of bribe by a person to an official to prevent the truth from being told. It also involves the embezzlement of public fund for personal use. Corruption is a criminal act and a crime against humanity. Continue reading here... https://www.nairaland.com/2609880/corruption-biggest-crime-nigeria#38156541 |

Be it Mr integrity PMB or Mr I ve never taken bribe in my life (lion of obima) or I didn't sign any cheque as Gov (Fashola) or I will commit suicide (Wike) or Mr uncommon transformer (Akpabio) the are all 1 and the same brand of people.

APC is a complete mistake.
They are jesters who are not yet ready for governance.
5 months into their administration no meaningful progress or solution to the many lingering challenges facing Nigeria and Nigerians.
What we have witnessed so far is infighting, the president adventuring all over the continents, media publication and immediate denials, lies, denial of campaign promises, 'hired today fired' tomorrow.
One media aid explaining "Old wine in New bottle", speculations and counter denials about appointment.
Ministerial appointments is another joke of the century.
Complaining of empty treasury but making immediate approval for billions of Naira, telling us how PDP which forms 50 percent of your party have bastardized the country, and all manners of "Tales By Moonlight"
If APC and indeed Buhary is serious about CHANGE, by now the following should have happened:
- Immediate political solution to the senseless killings across the country. (Being a president from that region)
- Immediate solution to the economic hardship Nigerians are facing: Fuel scarcity, USD now exchange for #240, few surviving industries now closing, due to unavailability of raw materials.
- Power generation and distribution is nothing to write home about, darkness has taken over.
- Most state workers are suffering, no salary for months despite the bailout and the FG refused to ask for accountability.
And many more unpalatable situation we found ourselves since 29th May 2015.
Buhary and APC should get down to work, your change time started since May 29th.
God bless Nigeria.
Shalom!

Aareonakakanfo: I've said this several times, the only way we might be able to achieve that is with our votes.Any party that's not ready to give us this then we won't vote for it but the problem here is the southwest hardly speaks with one voice, maybe if all south-west states are unified by a single party, then we might have a head way.True federalism or seccession is not achieved on Nairaland We can discuss SW politics in another thread. True Federalism and or resource control is the only way for Nigeria to achieve its dreams of greatness. What we have presently is just a complete waste of time. |

coolitempa: Attracting farmland labour should not be a problem provided the capital to employ them is there ...I know for a fact that this government plans on focusing on agriculture in a big way and continue on the gains made by the previous minister.
With regards to the aging of the farm, have you consider the use of fertilizers to replenish the weak soil ...Just asking ...no harm intended. There are soft loans which can be obtainable to re-energise your farm. Fertilizer for cocoa plantation would not be a solution to aging farmland. We are now diversifying into Oil Plantation...etc. Btw: This is one of the multiple stream .... and not full focus. Hope the govt. involvement with other aspect of cocoa farming, like preservation, storage, competitive pricing and readily available market where farmers breaks even comes quickly. |

The emboldened part is the reason why I've always wanted true federalism.Let everyone manage its resources. These are the things DAWN Commission wants to get rid off resource control is the right direction... |

coolitempa: What would you say are the problems you are experiencing that makes it difficult The current farmland is getting old, the cocoa trees are not bearing much fruits like it used to, we are yet to discover how to reenergize the dying trees. The burden of acquiring a new farm and the associated task and waiting time of between 3-4 years to start reaping the fruits of labor. Unavailability of laborers in the town to help with the weeding and other farm work etc., |

Modibbo and Yakubu have both left office without declaring the whereabouts of the N850 million meant for the plastic chairs and desks.
If N850 million was fixed in September 2007, at 14 per cent interest rate, the minimum current value now would be N1.6 billion which neither Modibbo nor Yakubu has provided answers to. |

Buhary's administration now in reverse gear. - SMH
Describing the use of mercenaries to fight militants as “shameful” during the March 2015 election campaign, [size=13pt]Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the practice. Buhari, a retired general, said the practice represented the depth of weakness of the Nigerian army.

Asked why the Buhari administration is again deploying mercenaries, the defense HQ source said it appeared to be the most practical option if headway was to be made against militants whose guerilla tactics are new to the Nigerian military.

Flets: When they were told Ambode is a career civil servant who was dismissed for corruption... they said Jimi Agbaje was an Igbo man When we told them the change was a scam, they said they were ready to vote for people without cetificates
Today, we are all reaping the fruit of ignorance, ethnocentrism and gross stupidity by the most of us.
Under GEJ, the argument was that either the lagos ibadan expway is not speedy or that the agricultural exploits are centered in the north or that the airport upgrades were not speedy or that the trains were not speed trains. We argued that the improved economic indices were not well reflected at the level of the masses. But at least, the arguments were about issues affecting Nigerians directly
Under Buhari, arguments have been Saraki, amaechi, Tinubu, ministerial nominees, stalwarts, obasanjo, secession, armed robbery etc which are of no tangible value to Nigerian masses. No arguments on policies or capital projects. We have even seized objective arguments on bokoharam and chibok girls despite their everyday rampage
This is clearly a very bad retrogression. Good Luck to Lagosians and Nigerians, they made their wrong choice. I pray God intervene, if not... |
