Nairaland GeneralThe Return Of Okadas To Lagos Roads: Progression Or Regression? by Firgemachar(op): 1:38pm On Jun 07, 2017
The fact that the ban of okadas from major roads in Lagos state has saved lives, arms, limbs and destinies cannot be overemphasised.

Since 2012 when okadas were restricted to inner roads in Lagos, the number of okada accidents and casualties have reduced drastically to almost zero according to online sources:

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/12/lagos-traffic-law-okada-related-accidents-have-decreased-orthopaedic-surgeon/

http://blog.lagoschamber.com/2015/06/30/lagos-and-the-okada-problem/

http://www.persecondnews.com/index.php/columnist/item/6737-can-gov-ambode-ban-the-ubiquitous-okada-from-lagos-roads

However, of recent, I have observed that okadas have been plying routes they are not supposed to ply freely.

And as usual, they've been disobeying traffic rules - riding against traffic, disobeying traffic lights and not using helmets. And they are fast becoming a menace to other road users.

E.g. the Ogunnusi road - Agidingbi road - Ikeja route is gradually being taken over by okadas.

Is it that okadas have been silently "unbanned" from erstwhile prohibited routes or the law enforcement agents have been compromised or become lackadaisical in the discharge of their duties?

Going by the success recorded in the past 5 years as regards okada restriction, can we be said to be making progress or regressing?

I hereby urge the relevant authorities to do the needful.

Thank you.

BusinessRe: FOREX Users Dump BDCs As Naira/dollar Rates Converge by Firgemachar: 8:20am On Jun 07, 2017
Ngasky:
Good development.
When the current government devalued naira I thought they are making a grave mistake, but thank God I was proven wrong.
The rallying of naira is in the interest of Nigeria. And from the way things are going when the dangote's refinery started production the dollar will fall to below 300 or even possibly below 200. Because the major drain on dollar exchange in Nigeria is petroleum and petro allied products. So we won't spend dollars on them anymore, the demand will fall.
Also with time the refinery will produce excess to sell to neighboring countries or even to southern American markets thereby earning more dollars to Nigerian central bank.
Another good initiative policy is the made in Nigeria policy, now with the homegrown rice production it will further reduce the demand for foreign currency, all in all the two most foreign currency demand commodity will no longer need dollars so we should only use dollars for machinery and parts.
From the foregoing Nigeria will be great it is just a matter of consistency and determination by the successive governments.
Long live FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA
God bless you my brother!

This is what speculators fail to realise. They are being carefully pushed to the slaughter slab. grin

I can't wait for Dangote refinery to resume operations. smiley
