This is a very technical question reason been that,
1. How many farmers used a particular feed brand to harvest

Due to cost of feeds, many farmers resort to alternative feeds hence making it practically impossible to determine accurately.

2. Your pond management in terms of stock density, water quality, feeding frequency, species,etc plays a significant part in your fish development and total feed conversion...

Finally, professional farmers are working hard to even attain a lesser fcr to make fish affordable if you juxtaposed a kg fish vis-a-vis cost of 1kg feed against Sp of 1kg fish.

WHY MANY PEOPLE GET RETIRED EARLY AS FISH BREEDERS?

Fish farming is a lucrative business, don't mind the naysayers, however if not done well, you will fail. I know you have faith, I am a man of faith by His Grace, but I will do my part (only God is perfect) and base the rest on faith.

In business, you need to be physical (work) and spiritual (pray), though it is an open fact to the dimension of some people's spirituality. However, I am not making any sermon here, but talking fish farming.

Hence, for fish farming, if you don't have a plan, you have no defined direction. if you have no water, enough water, not wise to start, except you intend to do Recirculating system (not system) and this is not cheap.

Now to the main course, fish breeders, it is no news that many are quitting, however many too are inspired to come in because they hear you can make millions in fish hatchery business in few months.

The fact remains that fish hatchery is the area where expertise is most needed. Aside skills, everything should be in place and those employing breeders should enumerated well. Any breeder that is paid less than N200,000 monthly as salary is been cheated, irrespective of qualification (Though, this is Nigeria, people get paid anything).
Such breeder should be ready to produce at least 300,000 fingerlings plus yearly (this could also be accomplished in 2 months provided the broodstocks are good, sufficient water, enough facilities, money to mention a few.

The reason why many retire early is MONEY AND MONEY. When they fail, no money to get back on and worst is the situation where those that lack agricultural knowledge or business evaluate agricultural business for access to funding.

When money is not enough or sufficient, there is bound to be many mistakes. And when the mistakes begin to happen, everyone becomes suspect. And because not all have the financial muscle to hold on, they get retired early.

Hello my professional colleague.... I just went through this post.... I think you need to modify it. 300,000 fingerlings is way too low annually against #200k salary. This in assumptive figure
gives #2.4M @#8/fingerlings same as the annual salary. As you have rightly stated...fries production is the most technical aspect but money spinning in catfish farming, hence, its unpredictable.

Do not forget the feeding of the 300k, water and other operational expenses.

Good afternoon,pls my juvenile are not responding to feed only few come to feeding spot, some were lying flat on the surface of water and slow in movements and some have 1 or 2 whitish mouth fins. I av wash the pond with salt and give them 1 hour salt bath in the pond. Pls help a farmer friend in need,what can I do?

Hello, their are a number of things that may lead to loss of appetite in no particular order....you need to find out what you might be doing wrong...
* are they really juveniles?
* what size of feed are you giving them?
*is it the same size the producer was using before you bought them?
* is the feed a quality brand..the name please.
* what is your type and water quality¿?
