Guy, Nigeria is a tribal democracy. And that is just the natural consequence of the amalgamation of 1914. Nobody's fault. The best solution is a return back to regionalism - with control of borders by each region. There is no problem with tribal democracy. The key is to give each tribe (or group of tribes) the freedom and opportunity to fully express themselves. Hence the need for regionalism.
