And let me add to it that Fashola is a very effective guy.

He only needs minds like ours to bring issues like this to him, so he can take actions at his own level of governance. Its only a pity that the case will directly be handled by guess who;

1. Ministry of transport (Federal)
2. Road Safety (Federal)

And of course, you and I know that Maballack only needs to have a one-on-one conversation with his cheque book and the officers in charge and we will all be smiling again. cheesy
I totally agree fashola is an effective governor- well more effective than the rest

But i think he will write his name of more Gold if he can bring this to the attention of Lagos and the Federal Government by kick starting a ban on moving coffins in his state and Nigeria as a whole. I think many Nigerians will support this- until today i thought its impossible to make/sell a car without airbags esp cars over 10years old

@Fiver
Endorsing the service is one thing, the other thing is to set a standard and specifications of the vehicles in use. I am not aware that Fashola is directly linked to any of the cab services; I had always thought the Transport Commission handles the permits and scrutinization.

Its a mess all the same sir!
which also comes under the leadership!

its a total shame Nigerians look out for all the effizy (auto seat massager, auto head adjuster) in cars and pay little attention to safety, i can just see the dealers offering cars with no seatbelt!

maballack:
Let me specifically state to you that the Toyoto Corrola from whatever to 2009 base model nigerian doesnot have an airbag , that i am 100% sure of except maybe a GLi which i have seen quite a few , enough to draw up an inference it doesnt have it even written ont he stering whell to say its there and was removed,
am 100% sure does not have an airbag because i have them all
wow so buying a new car in nigeria is  lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

Onwan:
@Siena
They end up in branded boxes to be sold to us here in Nigeria. Its terribly unfortunate that these kind of things actually take place. We need him to kindly let us know some details that will help us know IF a major official  distributor by any means CAN be involved in selling these coffins.

I just need that person to help us out here by answering these questions:

1. Did you know that those "moving coffins" were without airbags when you bought them?
2. Did they give you other options of another model with airbags, OR those were the only models available?
3. Where did you buy them from?
4. How on earth would you roll out a cab service with those coffins knowing fully well the consequences and the risks they pose to your customers? I have an idea how much you would spend equipping each with a tracker, and thats more important to you than the lives of your customers?

We need these answers Mr. Maballack, because this is not supposed to end here.
You mean the cabs FASHOLA endorsed in lagos state? shocked shocked

i can just see the headlines in a 'normal country' Fashola supports flying coffins!!!!
TravelRe: Bbc Report On Lagos Nigeria by Fiver: 3:53pm On Apr 18, 2010
It is not a report on Lagos, It is a documentary about the shanties towns

When the ymake a documentary about drug dealers in UK i don't expect them to show the affluent areas of London!!!

Its only Nigerians that get angry when they don't show the few beautiful areas in Lagos or we always ask why cant they show Abuja, Well get your own TV station in London showing those few beautiful areas. Why are we always waiting for them to show this or that about us- are they our publicist?

My slogan has always been that it is better to buy a cheap new car than to buy an established brand name car that is second hand!!!!
saddest comment on here!!! sometime we nigerians cant shake off 'status mentality' everywhere we go no matter how educated we seems to be

Can anyone say how much exactly would the dealer/buyer be saving from have a car with no airbag, i doubt its upto N10,000!!

Going the extra mile to remove a standard equipment from these cars is a bit weird to me (wont that be more expensive?)

so what is responsible for this gradual surge too much money in the system?
PropertiesRe: Welcome To My House by Fiver: 5:30pm On Mar 21, 2010
Bisowo:
@ Fiver,
Generally, the landlords are not responsible for providing alternative power supply for their tenants. Everyone takes care of their needs according to their 'abilities' to generate the much needed power. That's why we have different categories of 'power pullers', ranging from those with large and noisy gen sets, to the not-so-large but equally noisy sets, to the small, petit, and wildly noisy ones. The 'I-better-pass-my-neighbors' generally fall in the last group. This is Las gidi. Wetin man go do na.

However, there's a new emerging trend of inverter users who are helping to reduce this wild competition, (at least at night) These days, we sleep better in our house since the generators have been given the red card with the advent of our precious inverter. I tell you, GET ONE TODAY! lol
Yea I told my uncle to get one maybe next time I'm around

If the landlords don't get it the Tenants themselves can just come together to get a big one instead of having different buzzing noise at different hours.

this site is getting much more interesting by the day, blieve it or not its quite educative and infortainment, its great,
my collegue had my giggle now and had a look on wat i tickled my fancy(landlord buying big genset for the house and share it with the neighbors) gues wat his reply was, all fingers are not equal, some can afford to use their gen set all nite whil;e some its just 4-5 hrs a day etc.
It can work if everyone contribute a minimum amount then keep the Gen on till about 10pm max then individual flats can use an inverter till the next morning= quiet night for all cheesy

I am looking for a 'quiet' holiday flat somewhere central to all the fun places in Lagos

Nice thread here!!

Noise Noise Noise all over Lagos!!

How do you deal with noisy neighbours as in one that wont stop honking to get into the compound, had to throw a coke bottle at my uncles neighbour in anger, why cant people just get down to open the gate or call his obese wife to the door?
good thing is I don't live there

Why cant landlords get a huge generator instead of making each tenant buy their individual generator or perhaps ban tenants with loud generators, they are only allowed a certain noise level  angry

CCTV and concierge ensures residents dont just park or throw filth anywhere things are more orderly

where's the finally picture? wont be surprised if the sand and bricks used are still laying around the buildings

TravelEu Depedent Status For Residents In The United Kingdom by Fiver(op): 5:28pm On Mar 25, 2009
Hi immigration experts

I have a friend who was previously on a student visa but failed to return home after the expiration of her visa in 2005
She heard about the EU resident route, whereby someone with an EU settled status can apply for dependent (i think up to three people) as dependent, after application they qualify for genuine working national insurance and after some months they get about five years leave to remain- she is paying someone upto £4000 for it including the lawyer fees

Is this route genuine, considering she has an expired visa (she will pay £400 for new passport from nigeria house)
she has been living illegally for about 3-4years and working

I have heard some other people doing it successfully but you know our people, it is all hearsay

can anyone explain the process, duration and the price

Thank you
CareerRe: A Banker's Ordeal= Advise Needed by Fiver: 5:54am On Mar 08, 2009
erm are you barred from your workplace? as in cant you make it to the HR or even your office to see the manager
talk face to face. we blame politicans everyday lord knows what those 'professionals' with 'certificates' from here n there
are doing in their own corner

I think you should make an appointment with the HR manager and afterwards make an appointment with your line manager preferably on the
same day, just in case one of them 'is not on sit' as usual, go with your letters-school certificates, medical notes and communications you've had with
the guy that gave your approval to go sort stuff out with your school-don't be confrontational remember employers in Nigeria feel they are doing their employees
a favour!

PS stop leaving it to the hospital to 'communicate same'(typical naija bank lingo lol) to your employer if possible get them to send a copy to you too!
I'm yet to see a successful court case by an employee against a bank/company in Nigeria, they know they have the TIME and resources to frustrate you!

PropertiesRe: Who Is Buying Land Now. by Fiver: 4:58am On Mar 08, 2009
have you noticed, most of he estates advertised along the expressway n new ogun state are still undeveloped
seems many people buy to re-sale the land, it is very hard to now tell if those things promised by the 'developers'
are provided, how secure are those place for people who intend to build right away? many people buying land now are usually buying
just to sell them in the future-good business but when people are not forced to build withing stipulated times, those that build will be living with
uncompleted building or in construction zones, i doubt any developer will provide water, electricty and other things just because of some few occupiers
PropertiesRe: Brand New Government Estate, Igbogbo, Ikorodu by Fiver: 4:49am On Mar 08, 2009
wow its a bit expensive
when are they going to remove those sticks and do the road, still looks like a construction zone
i hope they clean it up because most building contractors just leave things after working

what are the things provided? water? electricty? intercom? lift perhaps?
is the estate for civil servant or anyone
whats the going rent for that area?

ps 5 gbosa for the pics how about the interior, hope im not asking for too much
