Hello Uber drivers. Hope Nigeria is treating you well. I need your expert opinion on a serious decision I am about to make. I am looking at buying a Tokumbo 04 Camry or Corolla for e hailing business (Though I prefer Camry cos Corolla and theft issues scare me a lot). I last did the job back in 2020 (with a vehicle under hire purchase) so I have an experience driving round Lagos as well as using Google maps. I know a lot have changed since 2020 given the rice in petrol prices and car maintenance. I have had hire purchase offers but I just don't want to go back to my vomit again. I really would like to own my vehicle and drive to earn a substantial amount. Because of this, I was able to save some money to the region of #3•5 million from my petty contract works over the years. My question is do you think it's a wise investment to buy a vehicle for e hailing now bearing in mind the increasing fuel prices? Please I really need your honest inputs or suggestions. Do you know that you cannot just export what other countries do not want or buy in advance?

Do you know that exporting finished products is better and more economical than raw materials in order to prevent deficits?

Do you know that our producers have been using other countries' labels to ship products for acceptability outside Nigeria?

Now that we have established all the things you do not know.. Now, the Fed Govt realizes that instead of shipping raw materials, they can ship finished products, and this is why you have the largest rice mill in Lagos, and the largest storage certification facility being built in Lagos that meets international standard. That is why you also have automated Lekki Deep SeaPort. That is why they stopped Lithium export; now we have companies building battery production plants in Kaduna. Now we have LNG and LNG stations springing up, and also battery powered vehicles. Now, we have vehicle assembling plants that will eventually use Natural Gas and Battery.

We have the population to consume what we produce, and self-sustainability is the first step to a prosperous Nigeria not looking for things to export. Please READ...it is good for the soul.

Most Nigerians don't pay taxes officially, but they pay it informally. Every time you want to do something you pay bribe. You put money in your account the band every imaginable fees under the heavens. To get money from the banking hall even before the new naira palaver, you spends at least 30 minutes to 1hr or you have to bribe someone. The road is so bad you, tires meant for five years does not last beyond one years. You pay electricity bill for light that is not regular that you will have to supplement with generator, cost of gas and maintenance is a tax.

I always say japa is not for everyone, if you are in business and the business is prospering on its own merit , you don't have to Japa, but if you are a salary earner with a monthly salary under 2 million naira and you are under 50, if you are saying you don't have to japa when you have the opportunity, you are deceiving yourself. Most people in such category eventually regret not using the opportunity when they have it.
