Jodera: Lol... You're misunderstanding me. I didn't say nobody should celebrate winning a trophy or even community shield. Most arsenals fans celebrated fa cup win and I myself would have celebrated if we won Europa this season. But would I be happy participating there every season? Maybe you, but I won't. Guardiola and mourinho will celebrate carabao cup and fa cup, but do you think they'll be rated greatest coaches if it's only those two they're winning consistently? If you think yes, then you're not been honest
Arsenal presently is a mid table team, who is hopeful of been one of the top teams in England(at least to the fans). Ask yourself even with all the b2b2b Emery have never been nominated for top coaches. That's cos it's a 2nd rated cup. Any how you wan paint am, na still the division two of champions league. There's a reason Liverpool fought tooth and nail not to be there while west Ham celebrated going there. I'm never happy we're participating there, but that doesn't stop me from supporting my team to win in if I find arsenal there. Will I be happy winning it? Yes, cos it's a trophy. Will I use it to brag, same way I can't use fa cup to brag. Simple. Ofcourse Liverpool and every big club will aim higher, I don't know how Eufa rate Europa, but I feel its as good as 4th in all leagues, Yes Emery shouldn't be rated world class for Europas but, definitely above average. I said above average because Europa league for the past 5 years has been different from the past decades, we've had top teams drop there and competed strongly for it. Atlectico, Chelsea,Utd,Arsenal,Dortmund,Napoli Ajax, Rangers and other tough teams Reason why the Villarreal and Utd game had much traffic and followership. For me, Europa is becoming more competitive. |

Jodera: If he wins UCL then he deserves all the accolades. It's you guys that's overrating this Europa cup of a stuff not me. Top players and coaches wouldn't love to be in the competition. Same way Norwich was sad going back to relegation is same way top clubs will be sad for making Europa. Same way Norwich won the championship league (and are happy) is same way top club will be happy for winning the Europa. But then, is it something to be proud of? Would Norwich wish to go back there next season in order to carry it 3times in 6 years so as to be tagged "England champions". ? Europa is a very 2nd rated cups for mudtable teams. Top teams and manager never want to be associated with it. Simple. Don't just overrate it
I don't know of any one who packaged Arteta fa cup win here. Him winning fa cup just gave us optimism that maybe he'll take us to the top and soften the stance we might probably have on him. I don't see anyone even using fa cup to defend Arteta sef. We only say the fa cup was what bought him time at arsenal. Finish!! All these overrating of Europa no be am abeg Baba you think too high of this present Arsenal, At the moment, the gunners are a midtable club. Any trophy even as small as Carabao will definitely be rated by 95% Arsenal fans, Arsenal fans will value any trophy most especially having gone through trophy drought for almost a decade. Also, the Pep and Mourinho will continue to value and celebrate Carabao even community shield( the least in ranking of trophies from England).. Not to talk of the second European trophy in club football in Europe, so its funny coming from an Arsenal fan/side( with no European trophy) who I'm sure 90% of the club's fan wouldn't mind to downplay the trophy. Bro, ATM, Arsenal are not even graded good enough to play for a league ( conference cup) competition not even upto Europa. |

Spy360: Emery has 4 Europa titles with two different teams. He's been to 5 finals. How many does Arsenal as a club have? None. So if I as an Arsenal fan says he is a serial winner in Europe, it's not an exaggeration. Also, for your information, not every coach that joined PSG won titles. So if a coach does win, give him the credit he deserves.
Emery is not average. He may not be among the favorites now, but he certainly isn't average. A coach with 4 European titles isn't average.
Funny enough, I do not want him back at Arsenal, I prefer to move on. But I will not say pointless things about him now that my eyes are clear. He gave what he could while with us but was constrained by many factors. We failed to empathize with him and ended up judging him wrongly when he couldn't succeed. At this rate, Even if Emery wins UcL, Jodera will say he won it because Chukwueze was in superb form, not because it had anything to do with the coach He either doesn't like/rate Emery or he is hell bent on the belief that Emery takes 90% responsiblity of that year's problems without looking at the entire box. Downplaying 5 European finals with wins over Arsenal, utd and even against klopp's Liverpool in 2016 as average is funny ...yet they packaged Arterta's Fa cup win. We can as well say Arterta faced the Wycombe and Oxford before facing the weakest city and Chelsea side to win the Cup. |

daveP: I totally agree that the board wanted reaping where they never even viewed as farming land.
I hated the signing that came in under him. Fact was even if it was two top signings that they got him, it would have shifted blame enough to Emery.
However he lost it with all those crappy tactics he was employing. Who recall the match Guendozi was expecting Xhaka or so to tackle an opponent that just dispossessed Guen??!!
The board extended their greed to Emery. Its been there all Wenger days.
60-40 is the ratio of blame for Board and Emery. I'm glad you understood me I mean Emery can never be so daft to prefer Litchtener, Luiz and Sokratis to the Maguire, V.dijk and Laporte of this world... In fact he said he wanted Maguire.. Also no matter how Guendozi impressed me, I knew deep down he was supposed to be understudying the likes of Parteys in midfield from the bench, I'm sure Emery can't have Partey and play Guen...in fact he wanted Partey that year... There was a Pepe and Zaha saga too. Unai Emery: “We signed Pepe. I favoured someone who knew the league. Zaha won games on his own: Tottenham, Man City, us. Incredible performances. I told them: ‘This is the player I want.’ I met Zaha and he wanted to come, but the club decided Pepe was one for the future." See how Utd fans are all on Ole, he had the backing of the board yet failed to win against an average side in Spain. To me, the blame is justified. Like you said, They took the greed to Emery, for me they are doing that with Arterta...Arterta got his issue too, but he isn't backed the way he should of the target is top4 and UCL.. The board knows fans will be excited with a 6/7 games fa cup win. Watch out how they will cash in on Willock,Guen and Torreira just to balance Party's fees. |

This is one of the worst Arsenal sides I have ever witnessed. Not in quality but in attitude, will to win, turn up at important games, motivation etc. etc. There are a few quality players especially in some of the youngsters who are in danger of being overplayed. When results don’t matter we suddenly win 5 meaningless games in a row at the end of the season I will sit and take notice if we win the FIRST 5 games of next season. The sad fact is, we have become a mid table side with a mountain to climb to even get back to our previous default position of top 4 in the EPL. #copied
Attitude and Motivation, another pressing issue I feel can only be solved by flushing half the squad and bringing in energetic and spirited players like the Sanchez and Kantes. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Fkhalifa(m): 5:41pm On May 27, 2021 |
Jodera: 1...I get your point but then you're looking at Emery as a coach that can take a mid table team to champions league. That I felt was your mistake. Arsenal was not a mid table team, we were always top 4 contenders and the board hired him for such, not that the hired him for us to be finishing 6th and 7th while winning Europa.
2... When he came initially, the atmosphere was bright and all. Everyone wanted to play for him. If it later turned sour, maybe he should look at himself also. Bear in mind that he wasn't able to fully control a room with neymar, mbappe and cavani, how much more a volatile personality like ozil.
3... I think he sanctioned the transfer of guen and torreira with sokratis. Maybe aside lichs, but he sanctioned those first 3
4... As for the lackadaisical attitude and mentality, it's the job of the coach to make them winners. Klopp did it when he came to Liverpool. You could see his fighting spirit in the team. I give it to Emery that he started giving them that winner's attitude and improve our mentality, but along the line he lost his way. Reason why our first season ended poorly and his 2nd season was damn so bad.
And as for klopp and guardiola, why they might not win trophies with this present squad, buy one thing is certain, you'll surely see improvement in play and mentality. With those two attributes added, he can then phase them out gradually while bringing his players. Emery didn't reach the stage to phase them out gradually reason why he was axed.
Hope you get my point tho You still do not get or agree with some of my points and I don't know how to explain further than I've done. Summarily, My point is Unai Emery has proven he is not a bad manager( with his trophies in Europe and France), good enough to take Arsenal to Europe only if the board were financially ambitious enough, and have players who can fight with blood on the pitch as we've seen with his previous teams... Jodera: I dont agree with that bolded one bit at all. Maybe presently but never ever when emery was initially employed. I mean we just finished 6th the previous season before he was employed and that was once in over 20yrs. How then are we a mid table team or a relegation looking team? Reason we employed Emery to take us back to the top(at least top4) since we saw him as an elite manager and not some mid table manager like Moyes or sort. Emery failed such task in his first season and looked far worse in his 2nd season and you want us to be happy because he took sevilla to b2b2b Europa? Wetin concern us with sevilla?.
Please, we still had hope of having top 4 reason why we employed Emery, he failed in it and that's fact. We left him till the 2nd season and he got worse, thus rightfully deserving the sack. Let us don't paint Emery as if he was one klopp or guardiola that guarantees standard top4 every season. You don't get me, Arsenal was like relegation threatened teams who often call up on Allardyce to safe them, I only used that simile to buttress why Emery wasn't hired majorly to win the league or UCL but rather take midtable teams back to UCL which I feel he was good enough and could have achieved in a sane environment he proved again yesterday anyways. You said Emery failed in his first season but if you look deep inward you'll know with the bad Atmosphere he had, he alone shouldn't take the entire blame... If you consider facts like him having no say on players signings and no backing from the board( Which serious club concentrates on bringing Retirees like Luiz and Litchtener while your rivals were signing the Maguire,V.dijk and Laporte) who allowed players to disrespect mock the coach... Also, club where every players are mostly insipid and lackadaisical with zero fight of every drop of their sweat and blood... Bro, The problem is the mentality and atmosphere around the club from the owner to the board to the coaching crew and players even to some of the fans. I want to see how Pep and Klopp will survive competiting with Luiz,Mustafi,Kolasinac,Litchtener against Laporte,Diaz, V.dijk and Maguire. |

Jodera: You're talking about the good sides, but in reality, it's not the good side that got him sacked. It's the bad side unfortunately. You seemed to skip my first point. Any coach the loses his dressing room, NO MATTER HOW GOOD(emphasis on the capitalized words), deserves to be sacked. Emery didn't only lose the dressing room, he lost the fans as well. Fans appearance to the stadium dwindled each passing week as well as losing his players. Even a guardiola or klopp can't escape such sack talk more of Emery. The reason Arteta saw out the season even with worse result than Emery was because he never lost the dressing room. So you bringing up his first season positives does no justice to counter his sack if we're been realistic.
Reason why I brought up mourinho man u sack. The moment he lost the dressing room, his 2nd position and trophies of previous seasons counted for nothing. That's the harsh reality of football. Well, if you say lost dressing room reasons, I have no issues with that. |

The truth is pride and Ego will not let many admit some facts, Saying Emey found his level is funny, i mean he has been taking midtable teams to UCL and he has done it again..
Your Arsenal is like a relagation threatened side who needs an Allardyce to take them back up, so Emery is a typical manager to take Arsenal back to UCL( May not win you league or UcL though)..
Emery may not be up to the Pep and Klopp to take your club to the top, but with proper ambitious Owners and players with guts and fire( like we saw in a Villarreal side with no special players as against the bottlers who would disgrace you by losing 4-1 in a cup final), He is good enough to at least patch this yeye club back to Europe either through 4th or Europa.
It is not easy to get rid of bad owners like the Kroenkes and the bad players, but easier with the coach.
I said it that year, no big coach will take this Arsenal job, Allegri rejected it, Ancelloti preferred Everton and Mourinho opted for Tottenham... Klopp and Pep will have their image soil also in this football club, only a youth corper will take the Arsenal job.
I can agree Emery got some things wrong, didn't communicate well, had bad relationship with some players etc but that's not the total package...
My problem with him was sticking and having faith with useless players like Xhaka instead of doing a Conte by stepping down, A Nuno Esperito could have gone to Portugal and get you fresh talents. |

Jodera: Any body talking about how it's wrong to sack Emery have forgotten how bad we really are. Like I said earlier, sacking him isn't wrong, but maybe replacing him with Arteta. It's just like man u fans asking why they sacked mourinho cos of Ole failings.
Seems we've forgotten how Emery was for us, lemme do a little refresher
1... Emery lost the dressing room. Any coach, no matter how good, who loses his dressing room deserves the sack. No two ways about it
2... Who has forgotten Emery countless formations? Today we'll do 3133, tomorrow 3313. Next week 4231, then the next 4312. The players are always confused and he also seem confused too.
3... Who can forget the shots we receive per match? Almost 15+ averagely, if not for the heroics of Leno then, na basket we for dey carry goals weekly.
4.. Against Southampton, lacazette scored the equalizer and made facial expression as if he regretted scoring. Worst part is nobody even met to celebrate with him. That tells you the unhappiness in the camp. Our grinding machine nko?
Abeg, I detested the last days of Emery era and nobody can convince me otherwise that the board made a wrong decision to sack him. His found his level, kudos to him Those saying he shouldn't have been sacked may have their points but what I stood/spoke against was scapegoating him all alone for the 2nd season woes. I mean the useless board, players and even the fans taunting and asking him to play their favorites against his wish had a larger share in the blame, but Arsenal fans want to see the Fc as a big club too big for Europa and Emery only to end up outside everything in Europe. You listed the bad sides of his tenure while forgetting the good parts, let me also recap the good times he had that could have earned a stay... Some haven't so forgotten how he finished 5th on 70 points(better than Wenger's last 2 seasons) and was literally 1 win away from from 3rd ( due to many erratic displays from the Xhakas and Mustafis you will hardly see from Villarreal and previous teams he managed) in a season where 1st and 2nd had 99 and 98 points respectively. Got to the European final and semi final of both domestic cups coupled with a 22games unbeaten all in his first season with a worst squad than we have now.. I mean a manager with previous 3 Europa trophies with orther 7 trophies with PSG in France will never be called a bad manager not worth a job at this present Arsenal. Going back to an average Villarreal to trump Arsenal and Utd to the 2nd biggest club trophy in Europe and bringing them to the UCL is a clear indicator once again he wasn't the major problem at a club who can't even make euro conference after sacking him. |
