[quote author=Eporshe post=73979724]Guys, i was denied visa at Lagos embassy despite my full tuition waiver and 1,086 dollars monthly stipends.
Here is the transcript.
Me: Good morning VO: frowning
VO: your pass and I-20 Me: pass
After typing for what I believe is my service Is service number, he then ask why do I want the school
VO: So why WIU? Me: Aside the fact that this school is known for its groundbreaking research in Aquatic biology, which attracts me, I have been offered a Teaching assistantship with full tuition waiver and monthly stipend; Also, WIU is located along Mississippi River in moline, where the school has been able to carry out series of research on aquatic ecosystems protection and fisheries management control. Which is in line with my research interest. I have also been offered a lifetime academic opportunity to engage in aquatic research and have international university teaching level experience, which will enhance my chance to continue to the post of assistant lecturer at university of Lagos.
VO: but your uncle will paying your deficit Me: yes with my mum.
Vo: Have you traveled before, Me: No
Then he typed and gave me blue paper.

jerrypeacelinks: So sorry about your denial dear. Your answers were okay and I will encourage you to try again and maintain consistency. But if I may ask, did you fill your DS yourself all through the times u have applied/ been applying? I asked because if someone else did, maybe they might have mistakenly inputted a travel history for you without you knowing it making most VOs to scroll through the pages of ur passport in search of a visa stamp. More so, I think with regards the question about your sponsor, you should have first stated who your sponsor was FIRST before talking about the funding. Remember the question was about WHO YOUR SPONSOR IS and not if you had a funding.
I have read your transcript over and over and I suspect it's about your response with regards your sponsor. Let us learn to Answer what we are asked FIRST before adding jara or better still leaving it at that
I may be wrong but this is my observation. Next time tell them who your sponsor is first cos VO may wonder, doesn't it mean u wouldn't have schooled or wanted to pursue your studies if u never got funding? Again, my opinion though.
I wish you the best. But please, do not give up. ur opinion is right, very right. Especially d travel history part. |

Olumuyiwalasode: visa delayed at the US consulate in Lagos... i must confess, i find it difficult to understand the reason... i wasn't even asked about any standardized test... below is my transcript....
VO: good morning Me: good morning (passes passport and i20) Vo: which school are u going to? Me: East Tennessee state university Vo: what course? Me: Engineering Technology Vo: what's ur highest level of education Me: Bsc in Physics Vo: which year? Me: 2014 VO: What have u been doing since then? Me: After my Nysc, i could not get an offer in my field, so i've been teaching since Vo: Did u get a scholarship? Me': yes, i was awarded a merit-based scholarship which covers 50% of my tuition Vo: Did u apply to any other schools? Me: yes, university of Idaho Vo: were u accepted? Me: yes Vo: so why did u choose ETSU Me: ETSU has an option in Electronics engineering technology,. I got to know about some of the ongoing research in the department from Dr. Uddin, the graduate coordinator, especially digital signal processing, coordinated by Prof Paul Sims, an expert in the field. And because of my interest in the pursuing a career in communications engineering when i return, i believe it will give me the opportunity to gain world class skills required to make me indispensable in the field. Vo: who's ur sponsor? Me: i was awarded a merit based scholarship which covers 50% of my tuition, and my Uncle will be responsible for the rest of the fees Vo: what does he do? Me: He owns a company that produces poultry feeds, he also imports trucks into the country Vo: Do u have his statement? Me: yes, passes the statement Vo: (checks the statement for a while, and Returns it Then types for a while
After some time, prints the blue paper u almost got this but i think ur bank statement was insufficient. Check the statement urself n do the calculation. Do not give up,hit em again,be sure not to change too much in ur next application, put God in this, and goodluck! |

Pefuele: Two things I noticed: When the VO was typing you shouldn't have talked about your father. In my interview, the VO typed for a while before asking me questions.Infact, she asked me to wait a bit.It is part of psychology... However,a more productive interview should be more detailed and with clarity. It is more about knowing when to talk and when to keep mum. Also, you shouldn't have asked to give SOA it shows desperation. This is why she said you should wait for her questions..Honestly,it is better to give document at the VO's demand. True talk....my own observation too |

Kirusky4life: I had my interview on 4th December at Lagos Embassy.
V.O: Good Morning, Can I have your Passport and I.20 Me: I obliged. V.O: What course are you going to study? Me: Am going for my graduate studies in Computer science at TAMUC V.O: Why Computer science: Me: I did computer science as my under graduate course, during that time, I developed a penchant for programming. It has been something am very passionate about, so I decided to get an advance degree and specialized in the field. V.O: How did you hear about the school? Me: I was doing a research online on school that offers database administration as an option in computer science, TAMUC was one of the schools I came across. V.O: Why do you want to specialize in Database administration? Me: (I didn’t prepare for this, but I had to come up with something). Database insecurity is one of the major problems facing Nigeria at the moment, we hear every time about people’s account being hacked in and the issue of cyber-theft is not left out. All these challenges are cropping up because of the poor implementation of the database servers. I want to specialize in this area so that I can contribute to combating these acts. V.O: Did you apply to other schools? Me: I applied to three schools, MTSU, Illinois state university and TAMUC V.O: Did they all admit you? Me: YES V.O: so why TAMUC? Me: The computer science department at TAMUC has a research area that most interest me and can benefit Nigeria if well detected. That is on Database SQL Injection and The implementation of ACID property of a database. Also I was awarded $1000 scholarship which also qualifies me for in-state tuition. V.O: What is SQL Injection? Me: SQL Injection is a technique used by Database hackers to add their own SQL code to the database via website input thereby making the database work out of the normal ways and work as they intended. V.O: (He types something that looks like forever and continued). How did you hear of these research? Me: My course advisor told me about it during one of our conversations. V.O: and what did they find out after the research? Me: The research is still ongoing, which is why am keen to know more about it. V.O: Did you write any standard test? Me: Yes, I wrote TOEFL and GRE V.O: Who is sponsoring your trip? Me: My cousin V.O: Do you have is statement of account? Me: Yes. Passed it on. V.O: (He looked at it and returned it, then started typing again and brought out a white paper, wrote something on it and returned it with my passport and I.20). Your scholarship is not reflecting on your sevis profile, update it and submit your evidence and passport to us via DHL. No need for you to come back here to submit. Go through the paper I give you and see what you have to do. Me: Okay. Thank you sir
I just sent the updated I.20 today and the dhl said it will be delivered within 21 working days. Please any1 sent additional documents to the embassy recently, How long did it take to deliver it. The thought of that 21 days is killing. school starts on 10th January. I must confess,ur responses in the interview was top-notch...u nailed in everything. Relax dear,u will come out through with all, bless up! |
