Seriously i cant believe the level of ignorance and stoopidity of some people on this thread. Just because you have no one to celebrate it with doesnt make it less worth celebrating for people who do.
Ofcourse you show love every other day, but this day is just like a special day to do special things for the special people in your life, not just your partner, family members too. You cant do special things everyday of the year, or buy gifts every day of the year, valentine is not just for showing love, you can do it any other day.
Its just like your birthday, it doesnt mean people dont love you, they just chose it as a day to do something special for you, doesnt make them love you less the rest of the year.
Or like the armed forces remembrance day, or christmas, or independence day, or children's day or any other day!!

On this matter, I do not think there's any concrete conclusion. Men and women are as good as they may come, and finding a good partner as a man or a woman is pretty much left to the person in search. However, I think it's fair to tolerate the little probablity that, given their relative sensitivity, there are many more women who seek to marry than there are men. This is probably enough to tilt the difficulty in finding a partner towards the women folk
