I’m new here and have a question; some questions actually, especially regarding the visa application and documents.

I saw a video where the lady advised that one applies for an appointment date before even applying for an admission. Is this still valid now?

Also i don’t think applying to schools should be that much of a hassle but i’m a bit confused on the documents needed to apply for admission.

I saw somewhere that English proficiency test is needed; that would be getting a letter from my undergrad school to testify that i did undergrad in English, right?


Then as regards certifying your documents. Would it be all the documents I intend using that needs to be certified?

Also how can one go about the it? Where and what does it cost?

I landed In London-gatwick airport on thursday morning at 6:26am.

The Officer in charge wan whine me buh I no panic.

He ask me series of questions with a straight face.

This is how the conversation goes

Me: Hello good morning,

Officer: which course will you be studying?

Me: Yea sir

Officer: Let me see it

Me: I brought out my phone and showed him.

Officer: which course did you say you are going to study again?

Me: Told him business analytics and big data.

Officer: do you mean to say Business Analysis ?

Me: No, it’s business analytics sir (the whole time he was looking at the CAS) I’m sure he just said the business analysis just to see if I know what I’m saying.

Officer: How much have you paid from your fees ?

Me: I have paid £2000 and I also have £7500 schorlaship from them.

Officer: wow, £7500, how did you get this much schorlaship?

Me: I think I submitted a very strong application, the school was also impressed by my undergraduate degree transcript, and my SOP.

Officer: How are you going to pay your tuition balance?

Me: I have personal savings and support from my family, I have the money ready.

Officer: You said personal money, how did you get that much money.

Me: I have been working as a freelance writer for the past 7years, I get most of my client from fiverr and Upwork.

Officer: nodded is head and said impressive.

Where will you be staying? Did you pay for school hostel or you will be staying at Airbnb?

Me: I will be staying with a family friend in Leeds till on Sunday (when I said this, his facial expression changed abit, before moving to Liverpool.

Officer: Do you have the address of the place you are going in Leeds ?

Me: Yes sir

Officer: Let me see it (so he gave me my phone back)

I then go to whatsapp to show him the address.

Officer: how will you get to Leeds from here ?

Me: I already booked a train for this morning sir.

So he looked at the passport again and gave me a big smile 😃 and said Welcome to the United Kingdom.

Note: The man interviews one black guy before me, he drilled him alot and collected his passport, I don’t what happen buh the guy left to see another officer which I Beleive to be there supervisor, he came back and stand behind me sha.

Yes, your uncle's surname don't necessarily have to be the same with yours (it could be from maternal side). You can provide a letter of him attesting to your relationship with him and his consent to sponsor you

Mechatronics covers engineering topics like Circuit design, Control Systems, PLC, Automation, Robotics, Embedded firmware etc. I would assume a significant portion of your undergraduate classes covered these topics. If you really want to pursue a master’s, I’d suggest you shoot for CS or EE. If so, brush up on data structures, algorithms and writing clean code with C++ or Python. That’s my opinion sha.

You are right, it consists of the topics you listed and that’s the main reason I don’t see myself threading that career path.
If I could, I would have changed department to something more related to production/manufacturing for BEng.

Confession time:

Since I stumbled on this thread, you have served as my anonymous career mentor.
I’m currently utilizing this ASUU strike to learn Data Analytics skills mainly because you recommended that it will aide my career as an INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER ( Ps. I’m in my final year studying Mechatronics Engineering, almost similar to Mechanical Engineering you studied in your undergraduate, ).

I have also researched some schools that offer MEng in Canada ( my preferred country ) like Concordia university in Montreal and Ryerson university in Toronto ( MEng in these schools is for 2 years and equates to 3 years post graduate work permit in Canada ).

If Canada doesn’t work out then it’s definitely going to be Texa A&M University ( ) . I have lots of uncles and even a white woman I call mom in this state reason it’s easily my first choice to school in and also my dad’s most preferred japa location lol.

Sir what I’m saying is that I was basically able to gain directions about my engineering career and draw a feasible roadmap mainly because I came across you, your story and the guidance you rendered.

Yes I know life can move crazily and easily scatter my roadmap but I want to know that at least I got the best advice possible and tried my best to achieve the goals. I believe with God, guidance and a good plan backed with actions, everything is possible.

Please my system screen has issues. It initially was showing green lines and some patches but after a while the screen stopped coming on ( just a dark blank screen ). if you hit it sometime it comes up but goes back off.

Most of your insights are very great and I used them. the basic thing is if you go to class and you do assignments you can have an A before finals. Yea, it's a very calm district, the road network is great it's actually a newly developed part of Lagos, most of the roads are intelocked roads, like the ones you See in some parts of VI and Lekki.
It's closer to Mile 2, Okota, Ago palace.

*It's very quiet with educated and middle-class people contributing a larger percentage of the population (more than 80%)

* The people there are largely Ibo and SS minorities.(Yorubas no too dey live there)

* You can connect to the island through the Oshodi-Apapa expressway.

Festac is not a newly developed part of Lagos just that it is really calm and we don't hear much about the area.


You can also connect to island via mile 2 - orile - national theatre route ( added advantage if you own a car ).


Op if you bank is large enough, you can check the residential area of Amuwo Odofin ( Ago bridge - Apple junction, festac link road, Durba estate axis ). Their estates are really cool.


Nb- police wahala is kinda on the high side in festac and Amuwo.

Everyone should know data analysis because manufacturing usually requires looking through production data for insights which could be throughput, failures or for forecasting as examples..

2. Will explain longer below...
Check on YouTube for any 15 to 45minutes video on data analysis with excel, this is the entry point.

When I went through your thread the other time, I remember you saying that you went into Data Analysis ( R ). As someone that also have a big interest in IE (all thanks to you ), I'm considering learning a skill that's related to Mechatronics Engineering ( B.Eng ) and also useful in IE.


1. Based on your knowledge and experience as an engineer, which skill between C.A.D ( Solidwork, AutoCAD etc ) and Data Analysis is more relevant to a person looking to do masters in IE.

2. If Data Analysis, what software are majorly used as related to IE.

As a student, you are forbidden to work or engage in any business not sanctioned by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (oisss).
Every school has this department and they have direct authority to declare you out of status.

Those trading were done post graduation as a permanent resident.
I stopped the "gambling" so I could concentrate on building my career which was a "sure" path. As we can see, it has paid off very well.

I still buy crypto monthly, it easily asked me send money to Nigeria.

After reading the first 2 pages I jumped to the last page to see how it's going only to see that you were planning to move your wife, daughter and mother in law to Texas ( I thought you were moving them from Nigeria ). I wanted to know how you were able to achieve all these within 4 years, so I went back to page 1 and read everything up until now.
I'm really amazed for real.

I have also made up my mind to go for I.E in my masters but in either Australia or Canada ( they seem to have a more straightforward immigration pathway )

Yes, but sometime the screen comes back on with red colour on the screen before it goes back off.

Funny enough I used an Agent before I came across this trend... I did biometrics since April, I finally received messages in my email yesterday and told him to check it out for me because he didn’t give me the login to my portal.. So he sent some pdf files stating I was denied due to personal Assets and financial status.. he said I can reapply with a landed property document or CAC.. I’ve been asking him for the login he refused.. what do you suggest please?

Please I have some questions to ask but here is a little back story.
My younger brother who is currently taking SSCE has interest in Cyber Security ( All thanks to his CISCO teacher ). He intends going for it in his Undergraduate studies and plans to apply to FUTO. I really like the amount of interest he has and I have source for some beginner level online course on Cybersecurity for him to take ( that's after his SSCE ).

The problem now is that I dont want him to study this course in a Nigerian University as we all know what ASUU have done and will still do.

So, my questions are,
1. Is it too early for me to give him Courses on Cybersecurity or should i wait till he starts his undergraduate journey?

2. How possible is it for him to get an undergraduate scholarship to study Cybersecurity in the US?

3. How can we go about getting a scholarship. ( I know that he would have to get a good score in his GRE or so ).

4. Finally, any other tips on how to help him develop his interest and knowledge would be appreciated.

Very right chief, no where is easy. Even Ghana has some level of difficulties attached but if you have the money, proper documents and will power, you would scale through.
