A pan-Northern group, Arewa Democratic Watch (ADW) has called on voters in the region not to vote for the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in next month’s presidential election.

The group in a statement issued by it s national coordinator, Mallam Ali Komo Musa, yesterday said the former Lagos State governor had in the past demonstrated his disdain towards the region, saying that Tinubu’s the current efforts are part to woo the region for votes seems very hypocritical.

According to ADW voters in the North need to be wary because of some anti-North sentiments that Tinubu had espoused in the past.

Musa said: “I am using the opportunity provided by this statement to draw the attention of Northerners to their responsibilities ahead of the forthcoming general election scheduled to commence next month. “The call has become so pertinent and auspicious at this time to enable us as a people to make the right and informed choice that would eventually serve our interest in the long run.”

He further accused the APC presidential candidate of sheer hypocrisy in his attempt to woo the North, adding that Tinubu had in the past been at the vanguard of championing agitations that are against the region in the past, saying electing him would spell doom for the North.

“How do you want us in the North to trust someone who had in the past been calling for Resource Control and True Federalism? Don’t forget that he once granted an interview to an influential newspaper in the South to say that he didn’t believe in Nigeria,” he said.

The group also faulted the campaign style of Tinubu which he stated is not grassroots- based, adding that rather than wooing key leaders in the North, Tinubu has been relying on governors to win, saying that won’t work out for him.

The group call on security agencies to invite the APC presidential candidate for questioning in relation to the so called Tinubu’s Army which portends a danger to the stability and peace the country.

“We must work to ensure that the candidate that would work for the North is elected next month and not a pretender,” the group said.

He needs to apologize to Nigerians. Nigerians need not worry about APC. We cannot appoint Pablo Escobar as president and Osama bin Laden as vice president," -- Senator Dino Melaye.

“Have you ever heard it anywhere in Africa before, yet they won’t vote for such a man?” - Dr Kwadwo Bempah

A Ghanaian clergyman, Rev. Dr. Kwadwo Bempah, has described Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate as a man who set a pace for other politicians in Africa.

The clergyman who stated this during a sermon in his church noted that Nigerians don’t need to conduct election but should rather hand-pick Obi who according to him is best fitted for the presidency.

In a video clip obtained by Tribune Online, the cleric lauded Peter Obi for “leaving N75 billion in the coffers for his successor” adding that such a leader deserves to be voted as Nigeria’s next president.

“Three men (Atiku, Tinubu and Obi) are standing for election (presidential) in Nigeria. One of them (Obi) when you check his records, left office as a governor (of Anambra) just like a regional minister (in Ghana) and left 75 billion in coffers for the next man.

“Have you ever heard it anywhere in Africa before, yet they won’t vote for such a man? They are voting for people we don’t know where they are talking about… wickedness!

“If anybody is normal in Nigeria, they shouldn’t even do election, they should go and pick the man (Obi) like this (demonstrating) and put him there.

“Those ones that have record of stealing are the one the masses are following,. It’s such unfortunate,” he said.

Politics2023: Who Is Likely Going To Come Third Between Kwankwanso And Tinubu? by floret23(op): 7:55pm On Jan 16, 2023
Kwankwanso is only popular in North-West but NW is not going to give anyone block votes come 2023 presidential election. Muslims votes are going to be shared into four (majority of liberal muslims are voting for Obi) while most Christian votes are also for Peter Obi.

Similarly, Tinubu is only popular in South-West but SW has never given anyone a block votes before and it is also unlikely in the forthcoming election. Muslims votes are also divided and yoruba christians have vowed never to vote Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Tinubu and Kwankwanso are the only two of the four major contenders who are not sure of winning their own region. This made me wonder who is likely going to come third between the two of them. Mind you, Kwankwanso has been having the largest campaign crowd so far but just like Tinubu, he is does not have the needed national spread. How I wish the two of them can march together to form a strong third force.

Below are pictures from Kwankwanso and Tinubu's rallies. Both in Lagos.

Nigeria is even worse than a zoo. It's a jungle for wild beasts like Tinubu, Shetima, El-Rufai, Gandollar, etc. But incoming President Obi is coming to change Nigeria's status.

“Compassion and discipline as well as clean and credible lifestyle, must not be a member of cults, must not be involved in drugs and witchcraft.

“Such a candidate, ”it continued, “must not be a fanatic and must not be associated with Boko Haram or other violent religion.

“Under competence, the candidate must have a record of “quality performance in previous positions, good education sufficient to manage a complex society, effective management of human and natural resources.”
This is a perfect description of H.E Peter Omoluabi Obi and an exact opposite of what Thiefnubuu represents. Vote wisely, Vote Labour Party.
PoliticsVote For Candidates, Not Parties, CAN Advises Christians by floret23(op): 1:55pm On Jan 15, 2023
The Umbrella body for Christians, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has enjoined its members to vote for candidates and not parties in the forthcoming general elections billed for Saturday, February 25 and March 12 for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and House of Assembly elections, respectively.

That was even as the body set out criteria/qualities a candidate must possess to be voted for by Christians.

The directive was contained in a document produced by the Political and Strategy Committee of the CAN, which Sunday Telegraph , exclusively obtained.

According to the document, in considering a candidate of their choice, he/ she must have what CAN called, character, capacity, competence and policies or (CCCP).

According to the document, under character, the candidate must have the “fear of God, honesty and truthfulness (in his/ her dealings with others). He must have respect for the rule of law, justice and fairness for all, respect for religious and ethnic diversity.

The document added that anybody to be voted for must have: “Compassion and discipline as well as clean and credible lifestyle, must not be a member of cults, must not be involved in drugs and witchcraft.

“Such a candidate, ”it continued, “must not be a fanatic and must not be associated with Boko Haram or other violent religion.

“Under competence, the candidate must have a record of “quality performance in previous positions, good education sufficient to manage a complex society, effective management of human and natural resources.”

Talking about capacity, CAN wants its members to vote for a candidate who has the “ability to envision transformation and to communicate the vision of the same.

Must have good health, sound mind and physical fitness for the job (office being sought for). It is not just the three Cs alone, the candidate must also have programmes under what it called policies. And for this, CAN advocates for: “state police, religious neutrality of the Nigerian state, enforcement of fundamental rights of all Nigerians, restructuring to decentralise governance, equitable enforcement sharing of executive positions, ethnic and religious representations in military and security agencies.”

Furthermore, the candidate must be one that has determination for all Nigerian people.

It said: “No to RUGA (Rural Grazing Area), but yes to ranching.”

Continuing, it said that it wants education and free healthcare for all Nigerians (including Almajiri).

Furthermore, the document said: “No to open grazing (rather modernization of animal husbandry, local control of local economy (resource control), including waters, rivers and forests.”

Sunday Telegraph checks revealed that most churches have taken the “gospel” and are running with it.

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), an arm of the CAN, devoted to this, has set up the Directorate of Politics and Good Governance, headed by a National Director, Pastor Femi Emmanuel, a former deputy speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly.

In a previous interview, Pastor Emmanuel, who is also the General Overseer, Living Springs International Church, Lagos, said they were working towards encouraging Christians to set up same, especially, the mega churches such as the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Deeper Life and Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM)

He said: “The DPG has established the structure that we have appointed 36 State Directors, 774 Local Government Directors and we are trying to install the 8,080 wards.”

It would be recalled that the RCCG, in March last year, during its Special Holy Ghost Service, announced the formation of its Directorate of Politics and Governance, which has since been driving the process.

Just like the political parties, it has structures in all states, senatorial districts, local governments as well as wards.

At a meeting recently, the church enjoined all to join political parties of their choices and encouraged them to be part of the executive committees and the caucuses as well as be part of the delegates as they are the ones who decide who becomes the standard bearers of the party and eventually run for the elective office.

Sunday Telegraph gathered that although it is late for them to promote or adopt a particular candidate, they would support any member of the church, who decides to contest for an office. But subsequently in 2027, they may form a political party as is done elsewhere.

But the move elicited not a few reactions, especially among their Muslim counterparts, who have also rallied members to vote for their own, especially the same faith ticket.

Sunday Telegraph reported last week of a 2 minutes, 20 seconds viral video in which Governor Umar Ganduje gathered all Muslims in the North West to tell them of the need to vote for the APC, in a meeting with Muslims and Islamic clerics from all the North West.

Ganduje, who in his welcome address, stated the purpose of the meeting, speaking in Hausa language, said: “History will not repeat itself and there will be no annulment this time around (referring to the Muslim/Muslim ticket of Abiola and Babagana Kingibe in 1993).

Dr. Abdulmudaib Muhammad, the Convener of the meeting, stated the purpose of the meeting thus: “The participants are Muslims and Islamic Clerics. We gathered Muslims from all persuasions to enlighten them on ensuring that the Muslim/Muslim ticket succeeds. We invited over 75 Islamic groups from several states, including Yoruba and Igbo Muslims

“We told the Islamic clerics and participants that the issue is not about building infrastructure for the nation but the major issue is who will promote Islam.”

He continued: “We told the participants that a Muslim wherever he is, is better than a Kafir (infidel) or non-Muslim, and if you bring two (2) Muslims together (referring to the Muslim/ Muslim ticket of Tinubu and Shettima), they will give you the victory that one Muslim will not be able to give.”

Stating what the same faith ticket means to them, he said: “This is the reason why we are enlightening people to understand that the main objective is that Muslim/Muslim ticket is a Jihad to us.”

Speaking in the same vein, leader of Izala Kano State, Sheikh Abdallah Saleh Pakistan, said: “We traced the history of how the candidate (referring to Tinubu) has always desired for as well as worked for a Muslim/Muslim ticket.

“He ensured Muslim/Muslim ticket between Ribadu and a Yoruba Muslim. He also heavily supported the Abiola /Kingibe Muslim Muslim ticket.

PoliticsWhy Peter Obi Must Be The Next President Of Nigeria – Afenifere Leader, Adebanjo by floret23(op): 11:06pm On Jan 14, 2023
Ayo Adebanjo, an elder statesman and leader of Afenifere, the apex Yoruba socio-political organisation, affirmed that the passion Nigerians have for Peter Obi of Labour Party is incomparable to that of other candidates.

Adebanjo made the claim while fielding questions on Arise Television’s State of the Nation news program on Thursday., January 12, 2023

He reiterated that it is the turn of the South East to produce the president, saying he was the first person to cry out about that.

Adebanjo said, “Well, I believe those who have love in following the trajectory of the Nigerian election must know why we are supporting Peter Obi. Of course, you must remember I was the first person to cry out that it was the turn of the South East. The parties had not done their primaries at that time, but I was just thinking about the constitutionality, logicality, and equity of the situation of Nigerian politics from the time of independence.

“I think all passion for Obi cannot be compared with others. It is historical, philosophical, logical, and constitutional, and even a question of inclusiveness if you are sincere about keeping Nigeria together.”

Afenifere Raises Alarm Over Expansion Of Terrorist Territory Into South West
The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has expressed concern over kidnappings in the Southwest, especially along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in recent times.

In a statement issued by the body’s national publicity secretary, Jare Ajayi, on Monday, November 14, 2022, the body stated that the frequency and ferocity of kidnapping in the area lately is generating concern regarding the territorial expansion of terrorists and bandits.

Afenifere recalled the kidnap cases near Dominion University and Sagamu Interchange on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the past weeks. Recall that on October 27, 2022, suspected Fulani bandits attacked travellers, abducting five persons and killing others. One of the abducted victims, former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Adigun Agbaje, was released after payment of ransom running into millions of naira.

Two days after, on October 29, seven bandits in Irele Ekiti-Oke Ako Highway, Ajoni Council of Ekiti State abducted four travellers. Last Tuesday, November 8, gunmen dressed in military uniform again attacked commuters travelling on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The gunmen stormed the road near Sagamu Interchange and shot at commuters in an 18-passenger inter-state bus.

Afenifere also lamented the burning of offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and Ede, Osun State, last Thursday.

The statement reads: “Unauthorised burning of any property is condemnable by all standards. The fact that this type of arson reared its head in the Southwest is unacceptable. It should be thoroughly investigated and made to be the last of such occurrences. There should be no excuse whatsoever to put the 2023 general elections in jeopardy,” Ajayi said.

Besides gunmen’s invasion of a Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, in June this year, Ajayi also cited various kidnap incidents on a farm near Ipapo and on Okaka-Otu Road both in Oke Ogun, as well as the ones that took place in Ibarapa area of Oyo State.

He added that efforts should quickly be made to ensure that the situation in the region does not degenerate into what is presently obtainable in certain parts of the North. He urged that efforts be made to put an end to the ones happening in the North and elsewhere as well.

“It would be recalled that the situation has become so dire that marauders do even invade houses to pick victims. For instance, last week Monday, a Catholic priest, Father Kunat, and eight others were abducted in separate attacks in Idon, Kajuru Local Government Area, and in Oil Village, a suburb of Kaduna metropolis, located near the Kaduna refinery.

“Afenifere, hereby, implores the Southwest sub-national governments to turn Amotekun into a strong regional outfit to protect the region. The governors should collectively approach President Muhammadu Buhari along with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to let them save our people from being enslaved by bandits. Drones and relevant security equipment must be purchased and deplored to quickly snuff life out of the monster that is threatening to consume us.

“Everything must be done to ensure that normalcy returns and that Nigeria does not become another region where terrorists hold sway. Southwest governors should do more,” Ajayi stated.

Comrade Emma Powerful, the spokesperson of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Monday, November 14, 2022, insisted that the security challenges ravaging Southeast are not caused by IPOB and Eastern Security Network, ESN, but the bodies have rather helped to curb the spread of state-sponsored armed militias in the region.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Powerful noted that the aim of forming ESN was to safeguard the region from Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen in the bushes and forests, adding that in the effort to blackmail IPOB, some politicians are sponsoring criminal armed groups in the Southeast to create insecurity so as to blame IPOB and ESN.

He said: “We, the global movement and family of IPOB, under the command and leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to reiterate that IPOB and ESN operatives are not responsible for the insecurity ravaging the Eastern region.

“Biafrans must maintain the peaceful agitation because the international community has refused the proscription of IPOB as a violent or terrorist organisation.

“Till date, the Nigerian government is still hunting and supplying fake information to the international community to justify their terrorist tag on IPOB. All efforts to tarnish the image of our movement has turned against them and we are still gaining higher grounds in our Independence movement.

“We advise patriotic Biafrans to stay on the strategy that IPOB has set for us. What will make the international community to change their minds against us is when they find that we are responsible for the criminalities going on. Then we have scuttled our chances of getting Biafra’s independence. Therefore, we must expose all criminals and wash our hands from all evils,” the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the National President of the Middle Belt Forum, MBF, Bitrus Pogu, has said the military has all the intelligence to apprehend masterminds of terrorism in the country.

Pogu, while reacting yesterday in Makurdi, Benue State, to the list of 19 most wanted terrorist kingpins/commanders released by the military high command and the bounty of N5 million for the arrest of each of the terrorists, said: “The military has higher intelligence than you and I. The Directorate of Military Intelligence, DMI, Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA, and lots of their other security organisations have a lot of intelligence than all of us.

“Now, if they feel that these wanted terrorists are not easy to hunt and they need public assistance, so be it. Nobody will say no if something will add value to our situation.

“But the truth remains that I believe these people know where they are. All these while when Nigerians are lamenting and crying, I believe our military have adequate intel to track these people. To me, it is more of a diversion than what it really should be.

“So, let the military put its acts together, and let’s make progress. We know that our military is capable of crushing the menace from wherever it is so we can have peace in the country. May God help us.”
