Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 Vice Presidential candidate and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has responded to the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, over his comment in the state.

Recall that Tinubu had on Saturday, during his presidential rally in Delta, slammed the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for his consistent visit to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to Tinubu, the Wazirin Adamawa loves Dubai more than Nigeria. The APC presidential candidate also accused Governor Okowa of making his state’s resources available to fund Atiku’s exorbitant lifestyle.

The former Governor of Lagos State also warned that Delta was not an Automated Teller Machine for migratory politicians from the state. Naija News reports that Tinubu’s comment was contained in a statement issued by his media officer, Tunde Rahman.

The APC candidate in his address at the Warri Township Stadium accused the opposition party of abandoning infrastructural development in the state and leaving Delta to rot away.

He said, “Delta is among Nigeria’s largest oil and gas producing states. Revenue from oil and gas has historically been the backbone of government revenue and foreign exchange earnings.

“As such, your state and other oil producers have made a one-of-a-kind financial contribution to the building of modern Nigeria. The nation is thankful to you.

“Delta has all it takes to be great and help lead the nation forward. Yet, for the past 23 years, those governing your state have taken you for a hard and long ride by selling you short. They have not done the things they should have and could have done for you.

“The infrastructure in the state was better 30 years ago than it is now. The state has recorded historic debts run up by the incumbent, yet the infrastructure and other things still remain lacking because of under-investment and neglect.

“The money is much, but it does not have legs. Where did it go? Not to your welfare. Perhaps, it has found a home with a certain presidential candidate who loves Dubai more than Nigeria.

“But Delta State is not an ATM for migratory politicians. It is a place where good and hardworking people reside and work to create decent and peaceful lives for themselves and their families.”

Your Identity Still Unknown – Okowa Fires Back At Tinubu
In a swift response to Tinubu’s allegations and demeaning comments about his person and relationship with Atiku, Okowa said he does not have time to respond to someone whose identity is still unknown to Nigerians.

Speaking through a spokesperson for the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation and Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, the PDP Vice Presidential candidate said Deltans appreciated the state’s infrastructural development and that the state was “not like Lagos that Bola Tinubu put in his pocket.”

Aniagwu, while interacting with The PUNCH in an interview, said “We don’t have time to respond to somebody whose identity is still unknown. Let him first of all go and clear himself; when and where he was born, the schools he attended and other records about him so we can know who we are talking to.

“Somebody whose records are still in doubt cannot be the one talking. Our state cannot be in his pocket the way he did Lagos. Delta is not Lagos, and our people cannot be deceived by such a person.”

The Defeat In Edo Is A Child Play – Okowa To Oshiomhole
Replying to former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, who also took a swipe at him ahead of the 2023 general elections, Okowa, through his aide, said he thought the APC chieftain would have learned from the past events.

Aniagwu said the defeat Oshiomhole and APC suffered in 2020 in Edo will be less compared to what he will suffer in Delta come 2023.

He said: “With the kind of wonderful defeat and disgrace he, the APC and Adams Oshiomhole suffered in the last Edo State governorship election, we thought he would have learnt some lessons. That 2020 defeat in Edo will be child’s play compared to what they will suffer in Delta State in 2023.

“Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has been prudent in managing the state economy. We have a lot of infrastructure on the ground for all the money that accrued to the state, ranging from roads to bridges, schools and human capital development. Their (APC) governorship candidate did not tell him that the road from the airport to the stadium is a federal road the APC-led Federal Government failed to fix,” the statement added.

Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, has received a variety of responses following his unsuccessful attempts to pronounce a word at a public event.

Tinubu is well known for making mistakes when giving speeches in front of large crowds. Most recently, he made news after accidentally praying for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A significant feature of the occasion was Tinubu purportedly “struggling” to pronounce a word when outlining his goals for Nigeria if he is elected.

Many Nigerians have persisted in trying to understand what the presidential candidate was trying to communicate. Many people have continued to speculate that the APC presidential contender was trying to pronounce Hullabaloo, while others are still trying to figure out what he was trying to say.

However, the fact that Hullabaloo is today popular in Nigeria suggests that many Nigerians think the former governor of Lagos was attempting to say the English phrase.

The Knight of Saint Mulumba, Nigeria, has supported the position of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Muslim/Muslim ticket of All Progressives Congress (APC).

CAN had opposed the issue of same faith ticket as adopted by the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu.

Answering questions from journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, the Worthy Metropolitan Grand Knight, Knight of Saint Mulumba, KSM, Nigeria, Michael Aule, said his members were in support of whatever position CAN had taken on the same faith matter.

Aule also disclosed that KSM would at its Supreme Council Convention next week in Abuja, deliberate on the role of the Church in the advocacy and the promotion of peace, equity, justice and development in the democratic transition in Nigeria, which incidentally was the theme of the convention.

Asked the position of the Catholic Knights on the Muslim/Muslim ticket as adopted by the APC in chosing its presidential candidate and his running mate, Sir Aule said: “We encourage our brothers to join politics, many of our brothers are politicians and have been elected into positions.

“The issue is that we don’t regulate the activities of brothers who are in politics but we support 100 percent the position of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). We are members of the Christian Association of Nigeria and we stand with what decision they have taken.

“On this issue of Muslim/Muslim ticket, we are also standing for what CAN has taken. The decision of the Christian Association of Nigeria is the decision of the Knight of Saint Mulumba.”

He explained that KSM Conference next week would also discuss the Catholic Church in Nigeria and the growing challenges of supporting Christians and victims of religious conflicts in turbulent regions of the country.

The Metropolitan Grand Knight of Abuja Metropolitan Council, explained that the Order counted on its members, men and women who, because of their education, social position and material resources, could fight a good cause with success for the greater glory of God, the Church and the progress of the country, using their (3 Ts) Time, Talent and Treasures.

“The Supreme Convention of KSM Nigeria is a platform for the promotion of the values of the Order through open discussions on vital issues such as the Christian faith, religious harmony, good governance, sustainable development, peace, unity, and equity as they affect our beloved country,” he said.

He said those expected at the ceremony are the Papal Nuncio to Nigeria, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, all the Bishops in Abuja Ecclesiastical Province, the Bishop Chairman of Laity, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Minister FCT, the governors of Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau and other states as well as the deputy governors of Kogi and Nasarawa states.

He further stated that the convention would also be attended by over 350 delegates from the Order which will include the Supreme Executive Board members, designated Metro Officers and the Grand Knights of all the Sub-councils in the country.

His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan will deliver a paper on the convention’s main theme, while the second presentation will be done by the Bishop of Maiduguri Diocese, His Lordship, Most Revd. Oliver Dashe Doeme.

Best is for Shettima to be withdrawn for Lalong to ensure the ticket is balanced and federal character is included tbh. If I were him, that's what I would do. I mean, everyone has to be selfless here. Tinubu did for Osinbajo for example.

Besides, all the major candidates have got two zones. Atiku has NE and NW while banking on whatever votes he can get split from anywhere.

Obi has SE and SS while banking on whatever votes he can get from anywhere.

Tinubu has only got SW plus Kwara and then the likes of Yobe and Borno which aren't even up to a zone considering Atiku is contesting. So, what's Shettima persisting with exactly?

If Lalong is brought in, it would be SW plus NC. Then whatever votes votes he can get from anywhere else. And since everyone is included, a lot would join the pool, including some south South.

I hope Tinubu is not overlooking the South South and even the SouthEast and the ones in the North. These people should be involved. You need to bring them into the equation hence remove the double Muslim Muslim ticket.

The Labour Party (LP) has accused the Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kashim Shettima, of flouting the terms of the Peace Accord signed by all 2023 presidential candidates.

LP noted with regret the actions of the former Governor of Borno State, saying that the APC chieftain has continued to make reckless and irresponsible remarks about other presidential candidates, especially its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

It asked the ruling party to caution Shettima to be mindful of his language in addressing other people ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Naija News understands that LP noted this with disdain in a statement signed by its Director-General Campaign Organisation, Dr. Doyin Okupe.

According to Okupe, Shettima has failed to respect the terms of the peace accord signed by all political parties under the supervision of the National Peace Committee headed by a former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

He described the language being used by Shettima as offensive, derogatory and unethical. Okupe stated, “We have watched with dismay and disgust the various unguarded insults and disparaging remarks passed on our presidential candidate and other candidates by the vice-presidential candidate of the APC, Kashim Shettima.

“Whereas our political parties are all signatories to the National Peace Accord, supervised by General Abdulsalami Abubakar’s National Peace Committee, which represents the bonafide code of conduct for all corporate and individual direct participants in the current electoral process.

“In the peace accord signed in Abuja, it was expressly stated that candidates would avoid using abusive and offensive language throughout the campaigns. It is, therefore, very unfortunate and regretful but not exactly surprising that in flagrant disregard for the clauses and principles of this accord, the APC vice-presidential candidate, in particular, has continued repeatedly to play the court jester by persistently, irresponsibly and recklessly making all sorts of derogatory comments, totally at variance with good manners and decorum.”

Shettima Can Never Measure Up In Integrity With Peter Obi, Others
Okupe added that while Shettima has consistently abused the opportunity of the public audience by making snide remarks about Obi and other candidates, the APC chieftain cannot in the least and in any way ever measure up to his political superiors in integrity, character, and status.

It could be recalled that the former Governor of Borno State had on a live TV programme said swiped at former presidential aspirant and current Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, when he described him as a man who should be selling popcorn and ice cream.

“Osinbajo is a good and nice man but nice men do not make good leaders, nice men should be selling ice cream,” Shettima remarked about Osinbajo.

“The training that the elder statesman got from Kano School of Hygiene is that of a ‘wole wole’. And believe me, the ability to sell bottle water does not make one an expert on the economy. Atiku Abubakar is not Abraham Lincoln, he is more of a Raila Odinga.

“Peter ‘Gringori’ Obi is my friend but Gringori has absolutely nothing to offer apart from dubious statistics,” said Shettima while mocking Atiku and Obi in his presentations.
