Good morning all,

I know the decision of the Appeal Court has left many of us devastated, demoralized, confused and discouraged but in all, there will always be light at the end of the tunnel.

We are not surprised at the decision of the court because from the out set, I read the hand writing on the wall by the level of impunity.

We shall henceforth:

1. The strike will be suspend, so as to enable us to appeal the ruling of National Industrial Court.

2. Members should endeavour to visit their offices.

3. Show lukewarm attitude towards teaching students.

4. Don't go extra miles for providing best teaching materials for students.

5. Only teach the approved number of students.

6. Only supervise the approved number of students.

7. Work for only the approved duration. No more overload of courses.

8. Ensure that laboratory practicals are conducted only for the approved number of students.

9. We will insist on payment of backlog of salaries before any teaching will be done

10. If (9) is refused, insist that the university's management should release admission list for 2022/2023 session and lecture timetable. Begin lectures for the new session and ignore backlog of sessions. If university administration refuses to do that, ASUU members should occasionally stroll to their offices and warm the chairs, sign any register tendered by the administration mass. By doing this, we have obeyed the court's other to suspend strike. When students are back and lectures are not holding because we can't attend to backlog of lectures based on FG's refusal to pay backlog of salaries,
possibly parents and the students themselves will take over from ASUU in the protest

11. The era of 11,000 - 13,000 admissions has come to an end. As you are all aware, our teaching facilities can only accommodate 5,000 students. We will compel university management and JAMB to admit only 5,000 students.

12. Those with administrative responsibilities especially Dean's & HODs should stop using their personal money to run the system.

13. Those going for external examinations should only participate after they are fully paid. Remember the remaining part of the allowance has persistently been pending since 2009.

14. Stop using our computers to do university work. We can all queue up to use the computer in the exam office (since it is the only one provided by the university). The waiting time will definitely be long before it gets to our turn to use it, but why worry.

15. Where we are forced to teach an overpopulated class, we should mark, submit and consider result for only the number of student approved by the University law.

16. Stop carrying the burden of the system on us beyond what the law says. Remember the excess work we've been doing (whose allowance we've earned and is yet to be paid since 2009).

PoliticsFLASHBACK: Why Tinubu Cannot Win 2023 Presidential Race – Fani-kayode by floret23(op): 1:03pm On Oct 10, 2022
Former Aviation Minister and human rights lawyer, Femi Fani-Kayode had on June 25, 2020, declared that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is unfit to win the 2023 election.

FFK in a letter entitled ‘An open letter to Jagaban’ said the former Lagos Governor would not succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 because he has been “used”.

Fani-Kayode who is currently a chieftain of the ruling party, cautioned Tinubu in the open letter against imposing himself on Nigerians, stressing that presidency can only be given by God.

He said, “You dreamed of being Vice President in 2015 and you failed. You are dreaming of being President in 2023 and you will fail. In all your plans what you failed to appreciate is that God alone rules in the affairs of men”.

Giving reason why the Asiwaju of Lagos would not be Nigerian’s president in 2023, Fani-Kayode said Tinubu “refused to acknowledge or accept the fact that the Presidency of Nigeria can only be given by God and He gives it to whom He deems fit by prophecy and divine decree”.

However, DAILY POST reports that Fani-Kayode, who a staunch critic of the APC and the President Buhari government, on September 16, 2021, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and joined the APC.

Before the APC presidential election, which was concluded on June 8, 2022, Fani-Kayode projected Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State as the best candidate to win the 2023 election.

The APC chieftain, who had prior to the primary election which produced Tinubu as APC candidate accused the ruling party of plotting to islamize the country, said in an interview on August 18, 2022 that he was only against the APC because he was in the opposition PDP.

After the emergence of Tinubu as the party’s candidate, Fani-Kayode defended the choice of Kashim Shettima as the vice presidential candidate of the APC amid outcry against fielding Muslim-Muslim ticket.

According to him, the former Borno State Governor had built more churches in the State than any other governor before him.

Fani-Kayode’s current articles are targeted at the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the presidential flagbearer of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, revealing why they cannot win the election.

PoliticsObi Mourns The Death Of Chief Vincent Ogbulafor by floret23(op): 7:42am On Oct 10, 2022
Earlier, I received the report of the passing unto glory of Chief Vincent Ogbulafor. He was a very respected, experienced, diligent and discerning politician who added great value to any enterprise he was engaged in.

He constantly bared his mind on national political issues and contributed his quota to the political development of the nation. His passing is a huge loss to his family and Nigeria's political class. May God grant him eternal rest and comfort all who mourn him.

As for Tinubu, it is too late to learn from Obi because of old age and degenerated health.
PoliticsPeter Obi's Full Speech In Oxford University by floret23(op): 4:19am On Oct 08, 2022
It is a pleasure be back to the grounds of this great citadel, University of Oxford.

Today, I will speak briefly and then interact with you on “Trends and Prospects of Nigeria's Economy: Broader implications For Africa’s Development.”

You will no doubt have heard the name Nigeria mentioned with various superlatives: the world’s most populous Black Country with a population of over 217 million; Africa's largest economy, and a significant trading partner with the United Kingdom.

Nigeria, indeed is a large and prosperous nation. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) ranks Nigeria the world’s 27th largest economy in the world. That is significant, but here is the reality. Nigeria is also a challenged country.

In February 2023 She will hold her next presidential elections; in doing that she will like the U.S. canvass for electoral legitimacy, that will hopefully translate to governance legitimacy. We are involved in that process.

Our primary goal is to enhance government performance legitimacy and reform the machinery of government. Nigeria and the UK are historically linked by democratic values, and by global trade and commerce; and inextricably so, by the global supply chain.

While we don’t expect that Nigeria will always remain the centre of U.K. Strategic engagement in Africa, we envisage that for long she will enjoy a prominent status in geopolitical and geostrategic consideration.

Nigeria remains a key member of the Commonwealth. A United, secure, stable and productive Nigeria, is of great interest to the U.K. Given her historical leadership role in west Africa and Africa as a whole. Her role remains vital to U.K strategic interest in Africa.

Nigeria-UK collaboration and constructive engagement in and era of globalization is anchored on three main policy areas : trade and investment, economic assistance through a variety of instruments; collective security and humanitarian support.

From my vantage position, I believe U.K's long interest and support for Africa should transcend the promotion of democracy, and include a broad range of economic related issues, in particular support for Africa continental free Trade Area.

Current outlook, Nigeria the U.K. and many other countries were adversely impacted by the covid-19 pandemic in the post - pandemic period, the so called recovery mode and economic recovery, Nigeria is showing discernible she strength on the back of services and agriculture, with GDP growth reaching 3.6% year on year in the first quarter of 2022. While Nigeria is dealing with inflation like so many countries right now, we have a healthy economic report card and look to more prosperous times ahead, given the country’s huge growth potential.

But we must have peaceful ad credible elections to sustain the required stability for growth. But investor interest is increasingly motivated by other opportunities that we offer, notably in agribusiness (Nigeria and the 52 other African nations are home to 65% of the world’s arable land), in infrastructure and manufacturing, in technology, and the production of consumer goods. Of course, we want this investment because this is what will help us create jobs, strengthen our economy even further and improve the quality of life of our people. It is also good business sense for investors. Africa is the last frontier for smart investors and Nigeria offers some of the largest investment opportunities.

Nigeria is poised to lead African countries as we leverage more private funds to meet our continent’s infrastructure financing needs. Those needs are estimated to be between $68 billion and $108 billion annually.

Accordingly, we anticipate opportunities for leveraging more private capital to finance regenerative infrastructure projects—as part of public-private partnership. Availability of such funds will help free public funds to projects shunned by the private sector.

In the face of all these challenges, though, the UK remains one the largest foreign investor in Nigeria today, those UK firm conversant with Nigeria, understand, despite some reservations, that Nigeria has a large and growing consumer market.

My administration, when I am elected President of Nigeria, will make sure that we do everything to sustain these crucial investment inflows. I do not like to talk much about Nigeria’s “potential” because ‘potential’ is a word that we have come to over use.

We should have long reaped the fruits of that potential by now if we had had the serious leadership commitment to do so. That said; let me say that Nigeria does have the potential to be a key exporter of agricultural produce to the world.

My country—richly endowed with God-given resources—has over 84 million hectares of arable land. To put this in geographical context, Nigeria’s arable land is larger than the entire land mass of Turkey. And barely 40% of this arable land is cultivated today.

Nigeria’s arable land is her new oil and gold. The Obi-Datti administration, from its inception will continue to encourage investment in infrastructure - energy, transport, irrigation, and telecoms—to grow these and other sectors. We are eager to quickly close the infrastructure gap between now and 2030. That is the Nigeria and the Africa that we want by the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals target year.

That is the Africa we want by our own African Union 2063 framework. Nigeria will remain a highly valued contributor to the global economy. We will invest in security, in diplomacy, and in economic engagement with our partners like the UK and other democratic nations.

With the kind of reforms that my government will make, we will ensure that investment—both domestic and foreign—will grow our agriculture sector to feed Nigerians and the wider world.

My last points could easily have been my first, but I preferred not to lead with them. It is the issue of corruption and investment protection. It is no secret that corruption has been endemic and one of the biggest obstacles to our economic progress in Nigeria.

We are not proud of this, and my administration, when we come in, will tackle this challenge head on. We will have zero tolerance for corruption. You can expect a sledgehammer approach.

We look forward to the international community supporting Nigeria's efforts to promote economic growth and social inclusion; to our boldly tackling corruption from its roots.

Furthermore, we will enforce the legal framework protecting foreign investors and their indigenous partners. This is the only way to tamper capital flight.

I thank you for your kind attention.

PoliticsOpposition May Manipulate Religion, Ethnicity Against Obi, Says Us-based Doctor by floret23(op): 6:19pm On Oct 07, 2022
Opposition may manipulate religion, ethnicity against Obi, says US-based Nigerian doctor
Isa Brimah, a Nigerian medical doctor who lives in the United States says candidates of opposition parties are afraid of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP).

Brimah said this during an interview with Rudolf Okonkwo, host of 90Minutes Africa.

The medical practitioner, who identified himself as a Yoruba native from Kwara state with Fulani ancestry, alleged that some politicians may resort to the tactics of religion, ethnicity and insecurity to prevent the presidential candidate of Labour Party from winning the 2023 election.

“Once they start to manipulate and play the religious and ethnic cards, I’m afraid what follows will be a resort to terrorism,” Brimah said.

“We have travelled this road many times before. They are attacking Obi because they know he is the front-runner, and that scares them.

“Obi’s campaign message is ‘take back your country’. Everywhere he goes, whether a church, school, or mosque, the message he preaches is ‘take back your country.’

“But his detractors have gotten so desperate that they are cutting clips and manipulating it. Nigerians should beware because after the manipulation fails, they may become more desperate and resort to terror tactics and start threatening people that if you continue this movement, we will kill you.

“I think it’s looking very good for Obi right now. If half of Nigerians are Christians, they should vote for him; non-fanatical Muslims will vote for him; people who just want change will vote for him; people who are tired of being killed by APC and PDP, that are tired of terrorism would vote for him; people who believe in fairness and equity that it should be the turn of the Igbo would vote for him.

“So, we have many classes of people that will vote for the Obi-Datti ticket.”

PoliticsOsun: Ademola Adeleke To Review All Last Minute Appointments, Contract Awards by floret23(op): 9:04am On Oct 07, 2022
Press Statement
06/10/2022
Ademola Adeleke to Review all Last Minute Appointments, Contract Awards and Asset Auctions - Transition Committee

The Ademola Adeleke Transition Committee is constrained once again to alert the people of Osun state of intensive illegality and looting of state assets ongoing in this twilight of Governor Gboyega Oyetola's administration. We want to add that the plundering of state assets and multiple illegal appointments have become more widespread since the court nullified the Governor's candidature at the last election.

Before listing out the cases of maladministration, diversion of assets, illegal appointments and contract award in violation of due process in recent days, we want to declare that Senator Ademola Adeleke will upon assumption of office institute an asset recovery panel, a contract audit panel and an appointment review committee to conduct requisite review of all last minute employments, contract awards and asset auction by the Oyetola administration.

We assure the people of Osun state that all illegal decisions of the outgoing administration will be reviewed with a view to protect the integrity and collective assets of our dear state. We are in full possession of all manners of shenanigans ongoing within the administration and we call on bureaucrats not to jeopardise their career by collaborating for illegality.

Recent examples of illegal activities are as follows:

1. Information reaching us is that the government is currently awarding contract through SUBEB. It was alleged that the contractor is being given 50% of the contact sum while je or she is expected to return 20% to government. The contractor will be Keeping 20% for himself and shared with SUBEB staff. The balance of 10% will be used for the job. The goal is to increase state debt and burden incoming administration from performing.

2. In contravention of extant laws , the Governor is reportedly planning to appoint a Vice Chancellor and Registrar foe the new University of Ilesa. Without advertisements, due process and community consultation, the Governor is planning to install his cronies.

3. Another report reaching now is that Government Quarters is been cannibalized by removing all removable, even pumping machines is being replaced with inferior ones. Even the two pilot hilux attached to the deputy governor is undergoing refurbishment to be carted away.

4. The Governor has issued directive to local governments to pay severance packages of local government caretaker committee even though they ate not elected officials. A brand new car is also approved for the caretaker members.

5. The Governor has increased the number of health workers he was secretly employing from 500 to 1000 with interview still ongoing as at the time of filling this report. The appointment process is shrouded in secrecy in violation of due process and rules of service staff recruitment.

While more unsavoury developments are unfolding, we call attention of job seekers and contractors to be wary of becoming a tool in the last minute illegality of Oyetola's government. The Adeleke administration will reverse all illegal decisions from November 28th.
E-Signed:
Mallam Olawale Rasheed,

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) on Wednesday said it is suing the Muhammadu Buhari administration and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) over reports of intimidation and attacks on supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that SERAP made this known via its verified Twitter handle.

This newspaper had reported that Obi condemned the alleged arrest and intimidation of his supporters, also known as Obidients.

In a tweet thread on Tuesday, the former Anambra State governor described as disturbing and condemnable the recent reports that some security agents silently arrested some Obidients.

He added that elections would not be free and fair when some groups intimidate their opposition, both during campaigns and at the polls.

Peter Obi's supporters have taken his campaign to the streets across Nigeria while Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar ponder issues in the APC and PDP.
By Bisi Abidoye

Peter Obi’s supporters got their noses in front of the field in the opening week of the campaigns for the 2023 presidential election. While the two major parties are still trying to put their houses in order, the upstart Obidients are already in the streets showing off their numbers in simultaneous outings across the country.

They appeared to have seized the initiative in this campaign from the moment in June when Mr Obi abandoned his bid for the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and entered the race on the pony of the then unfashionable Labour Party. Since then, the supporters have managed to shove Mr Obi and themselves into the centre of national and even international media attention in their audacious efforts to rewrite Nigeria’s political and electoral scripts.

Adopting their moniker from the candidate’s name and branding themselves as a movement of the Nigerian youth angry with the status quo, they launched their campaign on Twitter, the microblogging platform that had been used so effectively a year and a half earlier for the #EndSARS protests of October 2020.

On Saturday, the Obidients marked Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Anniversary with rallies and street marches in many cities across Nigeria. Although the candidate did not appear in any of the events, his supporters defied the elements and attempts by the authorities to restrict them in some places and poured out in their thousands chanting the praise of the candidate and dancing to Nigerian pop music.

In Lagos, despite an early morning downpour, the supporters gathered at Lekki, Surulere, Ikeja, and Festac Town for what the organisers called a #4MillionManMarch4PeterObi. But they also made themselves seen in Kaduna, Bauchi, Uyo, Warri, Benin and other cities where they caused traffic gridlocks with their carnivals along major highways.

Mocking Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the impressive numbers at the rallies in areas considered his stronghold, a spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar campaign organisation, Daniel Bwala, wrote on Twitter:

“They kept saying @PeterObi would steal @OfficialPDPNig votes until they saw the Obidient Lagos rally, then they realized Pitobi is on a mission to plunder Emilokan’s south west votes. Obi’s voters are all over the south west, cities, towns and villages. Hahahahahaha.”

In a second tweet, Mr Bwala also wrote:

The crowd at Pitobi @PeterObi rally in Kaduna despite @elrufai,..,suggest the decline of APC in that state. This is even labour, not PDP, Obi not Atiku. The EA amendment has de-mystified governors. If 2015 APC victory does not humble APC, the 2023 APC defeat would humiliate them.”

The tweets were good music in the ears of the Obidients. One of them responded to Mr Bwala with laughing emojis:

“What a time to be alive. They are no longer living in denial. APC is saying Peter Obi will take PDP’s vote.PDP is saying Peter Obi will take APC’s vote.Ladies and Gents, Peter Obi is the next president of Nigeria.”

Mr Obi has been mocked over his decision to run on the platform of the Labour Party, which had never made a serious impression in a national election. He was the running mate to Atiku of the PDP in the last election and started this one initially hesitant, before declaring his bid for the main opposition party’s ticket. His hesitation was then seen as a signal of his preference to pair again with Atiku, a man he still publicly reveres as “My leader.” His appearance at the public declaration of Atiku in Abuja earlier in the year had lent light to that view.

Thus, when he suddenly announced his departure from the PDP and picked the ticket of the Labour Party a few days later, many observers saw it as an act of desperation. Even the immediate traction that his candidature gained on social media did not impress many observers who noted that the party does not have structures in any state of the federation. He had countered that by describing his supporters as his structures. And with what we have seen over the past four months, and especially in the last few weeks since they took the online campaign to the streets, many may want to pay Mr Obi more serious attention.

The Obidients may be blustering political neophytes. But the marks they are making in this campaign and the attention they are drawing, even from their most arrogant opponents, show their hope of “taking back Nigeria” may not be as illusory as it first appeared.

APC, PDP distracted
While the Obidients are in their elements, the two major parties are being distracted by internal issues. The two had dithered over putting together their presidential campaign councils. This was more surprising for the APC, which appeared to have escaped the post-convention conflict that has manacled the PDP. However, soon after announcing a 422-member council, it emerged that powerful elements in the APC were squabbling over what roles to play in the campaign.

Some of the 23-member governors’ forum of the party complained that their nominees into the council had either been excluded or assigned minor roles. The bickering was confirmed when the draft of a letter was leaked to the media in which the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, expressed his frustration at Mr Tinubu not carrying the national working committee along in his preparations for the campaigns. Although the spokesperson of the party, Felix Morka, later denied the authenticity of the latter, the party has confirmed that the list was being reviewed.

This was one of the reasons why the schedule for the inauguration of the council on Wednesday was cancelled. The minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo, who is the spokesperson of the Tinubu campaign, later said the party will issue an expanded list of over 2000 members that would accommodate all interest groups in the party.

However, even that list will not accommodate Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha. Mr Keyamo said President Buhari had directed that the two be excluded from electioneering activities so that they can concentrate on government business in the final months of the administration.

That looks like a convenient ruse. The two men happen to be the most senior Christian officials of the administration who may not be pleased with Mr Tinubu’s emergence as the candidate and his nomination of a fellow Muslim as running mate. Mr Osinbajo was Mr Tinubu’s bitter rival in the party primary while Mr Mustapha was one of the Christian names Mr Tinubu was said to have rejected before settling for Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

While all the fighting over the campaign council was going on, Mr Tinubu suddenly left the country Sunday morning for London. His aides said the trip was to honour an invitation to a meeting by a group that they refused to identify but a section of the media reported that it was for a medical purpose. That report has taken the speculations about the state of the candidate’s health back to the front burner.

The trip also kept him away from a ceremony in Abuja for the signing of a so-called peace accord in which the 17 candidates committed themselves and their supporters to responsible conduct during the campaigns and elections. Mr Tinubu was represented at the event by his running mate, Mr Shettima, who had earlier been reported to be in London with him.

The ruling party candidate’s absence expectedly drew the ire of his critics and the mockery of his adversaries who also noted a trend of his avoidance of public events arranged to bring the candidates together. Mr Tinubu had been absent at a conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Lagos where the candidates were asked to speak on their plans for the country. He also did not turn up at a similar platform organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry where he was also represented by Mr Shettima.

His critics also noted that he has not granted any newspaper an interview or appeared on a live television programme like some of his major opponents. Is the APC candidate avoiding speaking with the Nigerian public and electorate?

Aides said Mr Tinubu will return to Nigeria on Monday ahead of the inauguration of his campaign council and the kick off of his first presidential campaign. The next few weeks on the hustings will answer some of the questions around his person and candidature.

Atiku faces perhaps bigger problems than Mr Tinubu in his own party. The PDP candidate has inaugurated his own over 600-member campaign council and has made strategic appearances in Enugu and Gombe even while he is yet to formally begin his third campaign as a presidential candidate.

However, since his nomination at the end of May, the PDP flag bearer has been enmeshed in a well-documented rift with the runner-up in the party’s primary, Nyesom Wike. The Rivers governor has since escalated that into a conflict between the southern and northern sections of the party.

Some leaders of the party, including at least four other state governors and many former governors joined Mr Wike in pulling out of the presidential campaign council in protest against the rejection of their demand for the sack of Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the party. They want Mr Ayu to make way for a southern substitute so as to correct a regional imbalance they cited in the party. But Mr Ayu has vowed not to resign and has the backing of the national executive committee of the party which has passed a vote of confidence on him.

The dispute has confronted Atiku with the dire prospect of going to the election without the support of the powerful Rivers governor and his colleagues who have stood on his side. But the clouds darkened considerably more last week for Atiku and the PDP when a financial scandal in the party blew open.

Suggesting that Mr Ayu had attempted to bribe them, four members of the national working committee returned sums ranging from N28 million to N36 million paid into their bank accounts by the party. They said they noticed the payment after the media accused them of taking bribes.

Those who returned the money are the the Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja; National Vice Chairman (South-West) Olasoji Adagunodo, National Vice Chairman (South-south), Dan Orbih, and the National Women Leader, Stella Affah-Attoe.

The scandal exposed the PDP to ridicule over its history of alleged corruption by its officials when it ran the federal government for 16 years until its displacement by the APC in 2015.

In spite of being rebuffed several times, the candidate has persisted in his efforts to appease Mr Wike. Both men met again in Abuja on Friday but Daily Trust reported that no truce was reached. The Rivers governor has since that meeting held another one with Mr Obi of the Labour Party. As things stand, PDP may be heading into the campaigns and the elections as a broken party. That, and the blues Mr Tinubu is facing over his decisions in and outside his party, must be sweet music for the Obidients.

APC and PDP are in disarray.

Fr Kelvin wrote, “I never knew Atiku is this old. I never knew Tinubu is this sick. The dance video exposed Atiku as one who is really old and frail.
“The cycling video exposed Tinubu as one who is so sick and in need of validation with any video, even if it is an old video.

“The big problem with both of them is greed. The biggest problem with both of them is that those around them are more greedy. They successfully surrounded themselves with sycophants and parasites than true and genuine lovers who would tell them the truth to their faces.
PoliticsAPC And PDP Are Now Playing The Role Of Opposition Parties To Labour Party by floret23(op): 8:22am On Oct 03, 2022
This is how it supposed to be. Let sane people rule while the other people complain. It shouldn't be the other way round.

The Kleptomaniac parties have started rehearsing for 2023 and beyond. The only thing in between Obi and Aso Rock is time.
