Tinubu described Oyedepo, as he clocked 68 on Tuesday, as a respected man of the pulpit who is making a huge difference in Nigeria’s education sector.

Nigerians have tackled the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Bola Tinubu after he sent a birthday message to the founder of Living Faith Church, David Oyedepo.

In his message, Tinubu described Oyedepo who just clocked 68 as a respected man of the pulpit who is making a huge difference in Nigeria’s education sector.

He wrote; “I rejoice with and celebrate Bishop David Oyedepo on his 68th birthday today. Bishop Oyedepo has served God and our country very well with the life-changing impacts of his Ministry as a respected man of the pulpit. In the field of education, this venerable man is also making a huge difference for God and for country.

“We are grateful to God for Bishop Oyedepo’s life of service and his transformational leadership. As we rejoice with him for a gift of another year in good health, I wish him greater exploits in God’s vineyard and more accomplishments to the benefit of mankind.”

However, Tinubu’s birthday message to the cleric did not sit well with some who called out the politician after wondering if he extended a similar gesture last year when the cleric celebrated his 67th birthday.

Reacting to the tweet, one Twitter user @Chimamandaaa said “Pretence in the highest! Oyedepo doesn’t need your attention.”

@blessynewere said, “When did you start wishing Bishop Oyedepo Happy Birthday? Your desperation knows no bounds.”

@theoabuagada said “You don’t care Bola. Stop pretending. Did you wish papa (Oyedepo) happy birthday last year?”

On his part, Kolawole Olushola (@kopmaff) said, “This is the highest salutation from a political class, a little minutes after noon today. l was thinking if the politicos will not send goodwill messages to this giant & transformational of our generations and Gbam!!! @officialABAT (Tinubu) clears my thought, thank you Asiwaju”

@sleeks2010 said “This campaign season is really an interesting time, imagine BAT sending birthday wishes to bishop oyedepo, pls can election happen every year, I love seeing our politicians acting all nice and good”

On the other hand, some Nigerians saw the message as a good gesture.

The presidential flag-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 election, Bola Tinubu, might have sown the seed of a fresh crisis in his Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, reportedly overrode President Muhammadu Buhari, his party leadership and the governors, in the composition of the ruling party’s PCC.

The campaign council was originally designed to be coordinated by the governors, considering they were expected to lead the campaigns in their respective states. But according to This Day Newspaper on Wednesday, sources said Tinubu, without recourse to any of the other parties, including President Buhari, single-handedly reviewed the PCC list, ‘particularly, tampering with some critical areas that the president and the governors, had indicated interests and agreed with him’.

This, expectedly, raised concerns amongst other stakeholders.

In fact, it was learnt that the choice of James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives, from Ikeja in Lagos State, as Secretary of the campaign council was not well received.

Sources said the position of secretary of the PCC was reserved for the North Central, as part of moves to pacify the minority north. However, due to the fact that the Director-General (DG) of the PCC, Governor Simon Lalong, hails from Plateau State, it was agreed that the Secretary should be taken to Benue State.

Tinubu allegedly turned down two names from Benue and claimed since Kogi was part of North Central, he would rather pick Faleke, his key ally.

Meanwhile, the APC’s PCC is making moves to expand its 422-member list.

This newspaper understands that those that have been announced have started collecting their letters of appointment.

Former Arewa youth leader and aviation expert, Isaac Balami has dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Labour Party, LP.

Balami who played a major role in the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 when he mobilized northern youths across the region, disclosed this in a statement he tagged “My Critical Junction.”

The former spokesman for the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers said on Tuesday that he dumped the APC and joined the Obi-Datti movement because he shares in the pains of Nigerians, especially the Christians over the inequality and injustice they have witnessed under the APC-led government.

Lamenting the move by his former party to field a Muslim-Muslum ticket for its presidential candidate, Balami said APC undermined the relevance of Nigerian Christians.

The statement reads in part, “At this juncture, I want to thank the APC-led government for awakening the consciousness of well-meaning Nigerians. Without them, we would have still been carried away with the deep deception that has mismanaged and caused doubts concerning our beliefs and perceived ones in Nigeria.

“I have awoken to the fact that the APC as a party and its presidential flag-bearer, have unequivocally decided to undermine the relevance of Nigerian Christians, and Non-Christian good-wishers that understand the importance of managing our diversity at this very critical point in our nationhood.

On why he is joining to Obidient movement, the former youth leader said, “the youths are the posterity of a nation. The finest of people are moulded in their youth.

“I have grown and come of age among the elders of our land, learning and demonstrating obedience, clarity of thought, and choices – some of which have been criticized, and a greater number thereof have, on the other hand, been accepted and commended”.

Details have emerged revealing the discussions between leaders of the Arewa Church under the aegis of the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria with the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Naija News earlier reported that Tinubu had met with the Bishops last Thursday at the APC Presidential Campaign Headquarters in Abuja over his decision to pick former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate.

Tinubu stated that only competence can resolve the political and socio-economic challenges bedeviling the nation.

He said he has always been a friend of the Christian community and he should be considered based on his track record, plans, and agenda for developing Nigeria.

A source at the meeting to Sunday Vanguard that most of those in attendance had rejected Tinubu’s decision to pick a fellow Muslim from the North, Senator Kashim Shettima, as running mate.

The insider said the Pentecostal bishops were meeting for the first time to engage the APC candidate on the rationale for his “divisive” decision as well as his plans for Christians in the North.

Three Important Questions Bishop Asked Tinubu
The source disclosed that they grilled Tinubu on three questions considered to be of fundamental concern to Christians in the North, but were not impressed with some explanations given.

The source said: “We were led to the meeting by the Deputy President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Archbishop John Praise, who made it clear from the onset that it was not an endorsement event, but a forum to listen to Asiwaju with a view to understanding why he paid deaf ears to the outcry against his party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“To buttress his point and set the tone for the engagement, he quoted John 7:51 which reads, ‘’Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him find out what he has been doing?’’

“We asked Tinubu three burning questions agitating the minds of Christians in the North. First, we asked him: What are your plans for Christians in the North in light of your insistence on picking a Muslim vice-presidential candidate from our region?

“We also asked him to respond to the remarks by Shettima at the NBA Conference that he will oversee security while Tinubu will direct the economy. Finally, we asked the APC presidential candidate for his views on the incessant attacks on Christian communities in the North.”

APC Presidential Candidate’s Unconvincing Response
Multiples sources told Vanguard that Tinubu spoke of the Muslim-Muslim controversy in a bid to allay the fears of the Northern Christians.

One of the sources said: “For our first poser to him, Asiwaju said much, but to summarise his response, he simply told us he cannot talk about sharing a cake that has not been baked.

“His response to our second question was that the Constitution specified the roles and responsibilities of the President and his vice. So, there is no doubt about who will do what in the office if they win 2023.”

On the killing of Christians in the North and possible Islamisation, another source said Tinubu said he would not be part of such an extremist agenda, stating that he has not Islamised his immediate family and wouldn’t do so to over 200 million persons.

Another source added: “Some of us are not satisfied with his reasons for picking Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate. He failed to convincingly justify the fact that in all the eight Northern states dominated by Christians there was no qualified, politically exposed and upright Christian fit for the office of the vice president of Nigeria.

“We believe that Tinubu himself, like most of us at the meeting, is at a loss on how to convince Christians that he will not sideline the Church.

“How can we work for a presidential candidate who appears to be already sidelining people that are not of his faith?”

In a post shared on the micro-blogging platform, Twitter, the singer narrated how pro-Obi supporters out of excitement tore his trousers, shirts despite having about fifteen bodyguards with him during the fitness walk for Peter Obi.

He added that his guards had to bundle him into a car when the crowd became overwhelming, noting that what he saw at the Abuja city gate was a political revolution and not a rally.
