flyca: Common mistakes with yoruba speakers include but not limited to: adding the letter "h" to a word. Example 1: (h)add 2 + 3
Or not adding (h) when necessary. Example 2: aw are you?
Also the wrong pronunciation of letter "Z" as "S" and "Ch" as "Sh.
Generally, I have observed that Nigerians (maybe Igbos) do not pronounce "R" when it's in the middle of a word. Example 3: How a you? Instead of "How aRe you"? "What's u~a name?" instead of "What's youR name?"
So watch out for those.
The good thing is that English is now an international language, and every nation/tribe has a peculiar way of pronouncing its letters. As long you speak clearly, you'll most likely to be heard and understood.
You are already an adult so I'll advice that you don't bother about your accent. Accents are learned at childhood. Otherwise you'll begin to make a fool of yourself in public. |

Every region struggling for appointment. How has the ones appointed in your region helped anybody?
For instance, how has Chris Ngige becoming the Minister of Labour benefited Anambrarians? You will think that with Ngige as the Minister of Labour, Anambrarians will get fair labour representation or at least used his position to help a lot of people. That by making him minister, you'll at least be able to make an appointment with him to discuss salient issues. For wia!
Truth be told, except you are part of his immediate family, you stand to gain nothing in his appointment. In the same vein, even if all Nigerian senators and Ministers Igbos, it means nothing to regular Igbo on the street. These guys are after their own pocket not their region per se!
I'm not saying whether President Buhari is partial or not, I'm saying that what we need is forward thinking people in power. All these "from what region" issues is not the main point. We need goal-oriented, good policy makers in power! Strategic-thinkers. People who will drive Nigeria forward, not all these job-hunters!
I am Igbo, the reason why I am using my region as an example. |

Please I wanna add something..
OP said: Pour the blended tomatoes into a pot and let it boil until the consistency is thicker and the excess water is dried up.
I say: There is a better way to this. Blend your tomates and all. Put it on fire and allow to boil - usually 5 to 10 mins. Then pour in a sieve. The excess water just drains out! This will save time and fuel. Also prevents excessive heating of the tomatoes and makes the sew fresher.
The finer the sieve the better. The more time you leave it on the sieve, the more the water that drains out and the thicker the tomato puree becomes. A trial will convince you. |

Back then in 2013, I was living in Awka. Our then gateman, lemme call him Akin had a young wife - 17 years by my estimate and 2 kids. The older one and the younger one - a suckler. Then again, there was another young girl - Happiness (About 7years) living them, all these people in one small gatehouse with toilet inside the small apartment less that 40square meters. Back then my mum had an NGO and we kept asking this family to check ANY school of their choice within the environs, get their enrollment list and let's get Happiness to school. For wia! The only person that understands a little English then was the gateman himself. Whenever you talked to him about it, he'll start behaving/pretending to be mentally unstable. At some point, he started dodging up outrightly. Like asking Happiness or Madam to open the gate when it's either me or my mum. One day, my mum and I went to a private school just 5 mins walk from our house, got all the requirements, got back, gave it to him. Asked him to come and collect the items on Sat, so that Happiness can start school on Monday. He said ok. No show. On Tuesday, he said "madam go take them go village". By the next weekend, he "resigned". And my bro saw them two buildings away from ours doing another gateman job Summary: You cannot change a person who does not want change. so we are all helpless |

Hephgirl: u will have to pm or email Justin Trudeau.
On d serious note.. One can't say for sure.. But get ur PR and den make up ur mind after that... Or trying to be traveling to maintain status while u grow in this company... I know a couple of people who are in their jobs in naija but are residents Travelling? You mean after I get a PR? Or travelling to Canada? Or around the world generally? I don't live and work in Nigeria. And I have toured quite a few countries in the recent years - not Canda. Does this help too? |

einsteino: I am still skeptical about PNP not needing POF, too lazy to research it, so i would leave the experienced folks to confirm that. in all, its really up to you. santino pointed out that canny is pushing for more immigrants as indicated from their liberal immigration policies; this is true. but what he forgot to say is that this is because the govt in charge is liberal, though they may be re-elected, no one can say with conviction that a conservative govt wouldnt come in and shake things a bit.
moreso, the reduction in minimum years to meet eligibility for citizenship implies those who study in canada and proceed to pgwp would now be able to fill up a portion of the immigration quota faster. Also, this reduction would be an incentive for immigrants to pick canny over the likes of australia, coupled with the fact that canny's is cheaper and less stringent process. this would mean far more people would be in the pool soon and consequently higher cutoffs for draws, all things being equal.
all i am saying is, tomorrow is not promised. Many of us applying for this EE still do not have the POF that is dissuading you from the EE. some didnt even have money for ECA, na play play dem take sort am out one at a time. I would say look inwards and see if there is more you could do, speak to family and see if they could gift you part of the money.
but you know what best suits you, so whatever you choose is fine. Thank you so much |

Santino1: The problem with that is that most PNP at the moment are kinda tough (either you require a job offer or some previous ties to the province in question) except PEI and Nova Scotia (if your occupation is on the list of priority occupation). Would it be any easier with a good and required job experience? I'm looking at applying Power Systems Engineering jobs in BC? I saw many Canadian jobs on LinkedIn and co with requirements that I already have and the rest I could get in the next 12months. I could expertise in programming a PLC using TwinCAT and Siemens. Adding to what I already have. Isn't this gonna give me a leeway? What do you think please. |
Travel › Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Workers Program-Connect Here Part 2 by flyca: 6:48am On Oct 13, 2017 |
einsteino: wait. lemme get you straight, if u dont live in naija, why are you considering leaving your present location since you say you have a good job there? PNP isnt as easy as you think, i may be wrong but PNP does require POF. Yea, you are right - the reason why I want to leave my present location is choice - just choice. PNP is not easy but when you have what to offer - when you are convincingly good at what you do, it becomes easier. So I wanna see if I can get there. I think I've got what it takes to get there. And also, PNP doesn't require POF. Also with good job experience, you can apply randomly for Canadian jobs. And your employer gives you an LMIA number which adds 600 points to your score and automatic ITA! I got all these info from online sources. My problem now is how to time right. Any help? |
Travel › Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Workers Program-Connect Here Part 2 by flyca: 6:04am On Oct 13, 2017 |
@OP @Elfmann Please advice me again. I don't have any substantial amount for POF so the best thing I can think of is to get a valid related work experience and go for PNP. Thanks. Elfmann, I do have a one year work experience from Naija (plus NYSC -Do they even know about this?). But no money for POF Please can you give me a link to the tool to use? |

einsteino: you sound just like me 3yrs back. i had the option of leaving for a masters but insisted i wanted to get solid work experience first. the masters could wait, i thought. 2yrs later i so badly wanted to leave for a masters, thanks to buhari. but pops said the cash wasnt available anymore, plus exchange rates had seen the buhari effect lolz. i scraped up all my savings and applied for a very cheap pgd instead, study visa got denied due to insufficient funds. that same job that kept me back, i have resigned from it
see eh better apply for the permanent residence/EE, if you get it, you can do short landing and return back to Nigeria to continue your job... i hope its shell or Schlumberger job sha . On a more serious note, its important to always keep your options open. I also think the younger you are when you leave naija, the easier it is to setlle and rebuild your life. so if the pr comes, move asap jare! dont drag feet, the much older folks who u see taking their time are not like us trying to escape poverty.. i have realised half of the much older folks leaving are only doing so for their kids. i say again faschi whatever immediate comfort that job gives u, people move from 100 to zero in a second in naija! consolidate your future!
all this one wey u dey talk sef. as for me eh, if PR comes for me today, i no go even think twice or wait for weeks to leave. all i am taking with me is my certificates and a small box of clothes. my siblings don already dey fight over the rest stuffs even this phone wey i take de type, dem don share am. This world sha! i been think say na only when person die na him family dey share e property o. @OP @Elfmann Please advice me again. I don't live or work in Nigeria. And I have a Masters degree. I don't have any substantial amount for POF so the best thing I can think of is to get a valid related work experience and go for PNP. Thanks. |
