starcomms doesn't seem to be making attempts to improve. when visafone took over bourdex, coverage was poor in many areas with me getting like one or two bars in my house, now i get full bars in my house and in most areas of the city. this shows the company has really improved coverage. the same can not be said of starcomms, i stll get maximum 2 or 3 bars in my house. bandwidth has no improved too. i doubt if it will ever upgrade to Rev. A it existing Rev. O network. meanwhile Rev. B will go commercial this year. i wish visafone has EVDO working in PH, would have made that switch. use to hear about Prestel launching Rev.A in PH and Lagos. the company just went dead silence. wonder what plans zoom, intercellular, mts, oduatel, have. ![]() |
aieromon:funny. when i was in Lagos it was nitel, then multikinks. when i got to PHC i subscribed to starcomms. on phone browsing, i use MTN and glo. glo 's gprs is the most consistent. sadly no glo 3G in PHC yet. |
aieromon:NA TRUE SHA |
i receive mails like that telling me to update on some fake interswitch site. this guys come to nairaland, copy all the email adds and the forward these fraudulent mails. i just laugh when i get them, because the email add i posted on nairaland is a disposable one. ![]() |
cabali:thanks for the compliment. |
cabali:where you from de hear all these things. your ear carry radio? state your source nah even if na hints magazine or those 20 naira evening newspapers you read am.what do you mean iilegal browsing if it's a promo? |
lets continue the discussion. @ tex. that your reuters ref is not necessary. i was not comparing the iphone to nokia.stop being bitter. this your iphone no de give you joy at all your bad belle too much. |
zain never get gprs right them se them wan do 3G. check out the zain thread. men de use all manner of software and proxy or apn settings just to browse, with funny names like: tunnelling, cave, gpass, mountain, valley, tornado, hurricane, earthquake, abeg i no fit laff. if zain de work well why all the wahala becos person wan browse? |
cabali:you don manage now buy zain modem person no go hear word for you. i have been using the internet before you ever punch a key on a keyboard. |
texazzpete:this is a general discussion on the iphone, good or bad. no be your papa invent the iphone. is the iphone in any way nigerian? texazzpete:Nokia didn't pull out of Japan, their Vertu brand of phones are selling. nokia is not the only symbian phone maker. panansonic, sharp, nec, mitsubitshi, fujitsu etc that dominate the japanese market make symbian phones. texazzpete:old enough to be your dad. frankly. and you think you don't sound condescending and stupid when any comment about the iphone you take personal? is money the issue here? i make enough money i can pay your ass thru a british university. |
one laptop remaining. |
Bosunojay:i agree with you. zain has 3G alright but service is restricted to a few spots in Lagos only. cabali:my friend shut up. you talk alot of trash! this guy has a modem he bought from zain, if he can't get 3G, then it's not available where he is. it has nothing to do with proxy settings or apn |
@lynx. Yes those modems are Rev. A capable but Starcomms has Rev. A network only in Abuja, Multilinks, Visafone , Prest are deploying Rev. A Rev. A , Rev. B or Rev. O won't make any difference if the operator doesn't have sufficent bandwidth for the teaming subscribers eg Starcomms. In the USA, Verizon and Sprint which have Rev. A networks offers better speed than at&t 's 3G(HSPA) network. |
@ hayprof. We have been on Rev. O. Rev. A is available in Abuja only. |
@ tex. While not making comparison here, note the symbian OS powers over 80% of the smartphones in Japan. The Japanese simply could not understand why a multimedia phone, that "won awards", or mesmerised hundreds of jobless youth to stand in a queue for hours, can not record video or send mms. |
i have nothing against the iphone. but there more to user preference for a particular phone than just touch input. for a 3G phone, i would have loved it if i can use it as a modem. that small screen would not let me enjoy all that bandwidth ,worse still is a browser that doesn't support flash. Currently almost all the apps available from the app store are useless, surviving a user lifespan of one day! |
just one more to go! |
texazzpete:judging from your manner of replies, you are the real troll. |
talking about experience. no screenshots, no mention of download speeds. and if zain is so good why use proxy, tunnel, cave, mountain, valley or whatever app just so that you can browse? common guys, give us screenshots let see your speeds. |
@poster so your computer don de attempt suicide? ![]() |
the iphone has achieved a resounding failure in japan where in response to this the carrier operator , softbank, is luring customer with a zero price tag for a two year contract. the savvy japanese consider the phone too backward and ugly. interesting. |
i am sticking to starcomms. while they are not offering out of the world speed, i have not experienced any major problem on their network. imagine , MTN just yanked their gprs, EDGE and 3G off the air without apology, forewarning or regard to customer live subscriptions. 4 days now no gprs in PH. |
still available |

sms is not free nah. u pay for it when u pay for sub. sms is part of data. just that even when your sub don expire the thing still de send msg ![]() |
lynxnoon:yes. |
lynxnoon:that's my point. they don't have enough bandwidth to support the army of download freaks. banning users that use torrent in my opinion is wrong. if they don't want people doing this massive downloads, then cap the usage. or do they expect us to just browse just like that? any way like i have said before get a good internet security app that can block intrusion from starcomms, |
so starcomms has started policing their subscribers. whats wrong using torrent? this is admission that they are struggling with bandwidth. if they can offer the speed MTN 3G does am very sure they would cap it. |
i think i will get this one@samir |
your laptop de vex for MTN? ![]() |
infobaba which area u de for lagos? bi like se na only u de enjoy ds zain. ![]() |
