Ok, it won't connect me to the net.has it occurred to you that laptop could have been barred from accessing the internet. maybe some things you do on net. UNLEASHED:my very first laptop was an acer, second and third. acer makes good machines. don't generalise, his own case is peculiar. no machine works endlessly without some occasional problems. |
@my poster. acer has two service centres in Lagos, redington at aswani and compuleb in ikeja. take your laptop, it would be fixed for free. |

sniperwolf:wrong. cheap doesn't best. quality costs money. |
in the event of a major disruption in internet service, courtesy demands MTN makes an apology or advance warning and compensate appropriately its customers. visafone did apologise and compensate its customers when it had a similar problem. why take people for granted. imagine a night subscriber who never gets connected till 3.00am and loses connection an hour later. so many wahala with this MTN these days. in fact everything in this country is a struggle. roads, fuel, electricity, security etc abeg i tire for 9ja |

" 'Want the best value for your dollar in terms of PC reliability? For notebook PCs, Asus and IBM/Lenovo are the best, and Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Sony are the worst for reliability, according to a new report from Rescuecom. If you are looking for a reliable notebook PC, Asus and IBM/Lenovo may very well be your best choices, not Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Dell or Sony. That’s according to the most recent Computer Reliability Report from Rescuecom, based on 15,000 consumer service calls throughout the first quarter of 2009. The rise of Asus and IBM/Lenovo is Apple’s loss. Apple had secured the top spot on the list of most reliable laptops at the end of 2008, with the fewest number of service calls, according to Rescuecom, a New York-based reseller of computers and IT services. In the first quarter, Apple slipped into third place. According to Rescuecom, the PCs reported to have the strongest reliability scores are: Resource Library: The Hidden High Costs from Older Notebook PCs The Critical Role of New Notebooks PCs Justification of your RFP IBM System Storage DS—Reliable Data Storage for the Electronics Industry The Art of Mobile Computing: Dell's New Latitude Notebooks and Windows Vista Set the Standard 1. Asus and IBM/Lenovo (tied) 3. Apple 4. Toshiba 5. Acer 6. HP/Compaq 7. Dell 8. Sony Rescuecom’s rankings are based on a proprietary formula that takes into account market share based on IDC numbers and Rescuecom’s own consumer services calls for tech support. Although Lenovo separated from the IBM brand nearly two years ago, analysts continue to list the two companies as a joint brand because of legacy systems in the install base. Rescuecom President Josh Kaplan notes that Asus’ high reliability score this quarter may be misleading because the company made big market share gains since September 2008 when it released a highly popular subcompact notebook. But that notebook’s long-term reliability has yet to be seen, says Kaplan. Other factors that can affect a vendor’s ranking include the vendor’s ongoing support of its own products. For example, Apple users may likely be going to Apple stores for tech support. Vendors that provide better product support and vendors that have more reliable products are more likely to rank high on the list, Kaplan says. "In this economy, consumers and business owners want to know a computer is reliable before they invest hard-earned dollars," says David Milman, founder and CEO of Rescuecom, in a prepared statement announcing the rankings. "Our reports are intended to empower consumers when they head out to make purchasing decisions. Since technology develops at a rapid pace, our quarterly analyses provide a timely resource." that's why i got myself a thinkpad! superb machine! work seamlessly well with Ubuntu too! |
lynxnoon:intrepid ibex. 8.10 |
lynxnoon:for da screenshots huh? |
for some reasons i don't understand, couldn't install ubuntu on my acer travelmate laptop. today i decided to battle it out. after 3hours of manipulations i finally succeeded in creating a dual boot with my vista. every thing is working fine, the most interesting part is that my starcomms data card is working perfectly well, no software installation required, is like all the drivers are already there. |
my starcomms sierra wireless aircard 580 worked without any stress. just inserted, was asked for my username and password. thats all! |
texazzpete:60k. i would have my friend pick it up on monday. deal? |
never really had any serious problem using starcomms.one year plus. |
i would give the linux version(chromium) a try. |
what a relief. |

Mackee50:if him heart carry am go mtel nko? |
@ cube63. nice to hear the speed you get is good. i wish it's available in PH. pls be friendly with hayprof and lynx. they are good guys. |
want to be free of viruses? get linux or apple |
cube63:MTN 3G is fine but the 3GB data cap is a minus. but lately in my experience and location, their service has been a total mess. no connection for days. and badly no apology from MTN. i am sure if you live within multilinks EVDO coverage you should get good speed. that 21k no be for nothing. |
@lynx and hayprof. now concerning that screenshot. the transfer rate capture is usless and it does not show in any way your true download speed. speed is the average transfer rate over time. . 2MB/s? no wireless on earth can give you that speed, but 2Mb/s( take note of the unit) well that might be possible. point is the network doesn't offer that kind of speed, talk less of your modem supporting such speed. that ?MB/s you see happens immediately you start downloading. it's a spike or flash. lasts for a few seconds. that no way your speed. |
@cube63. since you stay in Lagos get multlinks EVDO. i hear they hot!. seriously starcomms got no business banning people for downloading movies on the net. o'l boy get a lawyer. if starcomms have records of your web activity on their network, demand to see it. |
@hayprof. no modem on the market can give you that kind of speed on the cdma platform. i will explain. that transfer rate in your screenshot is a fluke. |
I always wish to get the USB modem because it will work with ALMOST ALL Platform of PC.@hayprof. you have a point. |
@Ex. the at&t iphones are locked to their network. just no contract. |
