erico2k2:stop embarassing yourself in public, umts is a 3G standard based on wcdma(3G). with a little software upgrade you get hspa. (3.5G) |

these days i don't know if they even charge you for stepping into the banking hall. i just can't explain some of the deductions on my account. |
@*toyinrayo. there is a reason acer is the no. 1 laptop vendor in asia and europe. ofcousre sh1t happens sometimes. i had a problem with my aspire webcam but had it replaced by Compuleb at Ikeja free. there's an international warranty on acer products, if you have authentic invoice i don't see why you can't have your laptop fixed. check out their TIMELINE range, they would blow your mind away! |
@tudor. Don't say you are a gamer, just say you like to play games on pc. Your laptop is very unsuitable for playing intensive games. Your choice windows OS, gamers prefer XP. 1 GB RAM is inadequate, 4GB is more like it. A dedicated or discrete graphic card like some nVidea or ATI cards not the integrated Intel card that must have come with your lappy. The latest core2duo processor and a machine with an efficent cooling system are all you need , bro. |
Avoid modems from Chinese companies if you have a choice. Always known the Genie was no good for anything. |
@ bigbrovar.not like i have much use for it right now. My pension manager's website seems to work best with it. Why are my screenshots so large these days? I noticed that after a massive update. I would love to upload my desktops and others but the files are always about 900 + kB in .png |
thanks bigrovar. i successfully installed internet explorer today.

hi. guys. i tried out the KDE in ubuntu. i must confess i don't like it. problem is when installing KDE i opted for KDM, now i want my GDM back, how do i do it? |
i decided to give KDE a try.
|
@bigbrovar. how about the debian distro. what's your impression. |
@oyb. if you handle this baby would fall in with it. I am a frequent traveler. I wanted a 14.1'' rugged laptop, so i considered hp EliteBOOK 6930p and Thinkpad T400. I love the T400 for it's switchable graphic cards, longer battery life, roll cage technology, light weight, etc. T400 is a redesigned T61p. I will furnish you more details later. |
most business laptops come with an xp downgrade dvd. like my thinkpad T400. but i'm not making that switch. my processor is more than enough for vista. |
blackweaver:installing linus distro like ubuntu has never been easier. defrag, and let the ubuntu disc do the partitioning for you! |
no sc. shot. my point is consistency. we all can 't be night browsers. |
this acer laptop never still de connect to the internet? abeg leave the thing alone, no be by force. if the laptop is afraid of the internet, then let it be. haba ![]() |
it's a shame we get speed like that from a mobile " broadband provider". nothing to cheer up about. i was in a hotel for 3 days in ikeja, the wifi remained constant at a download rate of 44kB/s. not that the speed is so good but i just liked the consistency. something starcomms can never do. |
the article base on which you made that post is dated. no laptop in your list appeal to me. |
if you have a glo postpaid line like i do, your call gets answered before you even hear the ringing tone. ![]() |
@dual core. That was before. MTN is a total mess now. |
really i don't have any serious issues, just that i'm sorta glued to my laptop since i installed ubuntu. i have been busy exploring and digging the OS. that's what i mean when i said fiddling. i have been reading books too. my test bed is my acer travelmate 5720 laoptop. no hardware issues at all. my webcam works(thanks to cheese), my acer utility buttons work(thanks to acerhk-source), my sierra wireless aircard 580 worked right of the box. etc. some of the books i read now: my next step is to install the OS in my lenovo thinkpad T400.(my ultimate machine, set me back by £1000+) i understand it's only fedora that has a driver for the fingerprint reader. well until then,

i have had to reformat my vista laptop 4 times to get thing working well again, but the next time i am wiping off that vista partition to give way to ubuntu. it's been 3 weeks now and i am still fiddling with ubuntu. my work is suffering o! just love the high degree of flexibility with this OS. |
@Ex. what's your impression using ubuntu? |
Note to people: HP and Acer sucks. The only good thing about HP is it's unique look
wrong my dear.very wrong. when you have issues, deal with them. don't go saying this or that sucks. |
vista runs smoothly if the spec of your machine is just right. xp looks outdated to me |
@obinna. you know starcomms nah. one minute you are downloading at an incredible speed the next minute you practically at a standstill.
|
@lynx. that's the ubuntu's transmission bittorrent client. i am downloading openSUSE for my thinkpad. ubuntu is running on my acer. sweet OS. |
check this out.

is this now an iphone thread? |
