I heard few efia in my nursery. The harvest can last for how many months? Can it yield like hybrids i.e avenir f1? Did you topped it too? okoroemeka: we are not critical of East West seed,we just did an experiment that proves beyond any reasonable doubt the economic viability of planting monalisa in the south east, for me farming is not a hobby or passion, its my business and means of livelihood, today we transplanted 2000 Efia pepper by East West seed in our pepper megaproject alongside Cameroon habaneros,we will also order on Friday a further 4000 seeds from Mr olatian in East West, they are a good company no doubt, but I think it best for farmers to know were the pitfalls are, their habanero pepper has a good track record ,but I can't say that for the monalisa, pics of site B,Efia habaneros (East West)field transplanting. |

Pistotita: Magnesium change a light green cucumber to darker green? Are you kidding me? I need to try it. Very light green to dark green? Are you for real? Cos it is simple to test. We just feed cu999 only well, and we see if it can produce such dark green color. Nutrition change the genetics of a variety?
This is new. It is going to open a new approach I am working if this is true. Please, I want to know more about it. I am always opened to new ideas. My apologies to @okoroemeka if this is true. Cos if there is a witness, there is an element of truth. I have to really test it. There must be something about manure. Just thinking....can it be Magnesium? Can it be the nutrients inside? Or what exactly is in manure that alters the gene? It is why I say that I use compost more for organic matters cos what is in that stuff and with microbes cannot be underestimated. This should be really investigated well. The more I study microorganisms activities, the more I just say "There is a supreme being somewhere".
Not that I have accepted your theory, but it's worth looking into. And with a practical farmer like @okoroemeka put it here, then, I should check it well. cu999 from my farm today. You can google it, magnesium let you harvest more greener cukes

DeLaRue: Interesting. My downy mildew-infected Tokyo seems to produce much darker fruit than normal. I wonder if it's to do with the magnesium sulphate I applied when I initially mis-diagnosed the yellowing leaves as possible magnesium deficiency. magnesium nah baba oo, your yield will be crazy, I've harvested 10 times, some plants are still blooming. I spray organic too |

Very true sir, if well fed with organic and trained on trellis. Theoretical, Magnesium supplement help in darken cucumber too Pistotita: Not sure how feeding well a variety will change its genetical skin color. How possible is that? Not just right to discard that variety cos of your experiments which I have shown you the flaws in it before they even start flowering. I already know the result. Also, it is wrong to cultivate a variety without mildew resistant during rainy season and expect it to yield high. You don't just cross pollinate all cucumbers or pairs anyhow. It does not work like that. Cucumber is a different kind of crop. Still surprised high feeding rate or high organic matters can alter genetic composition of a crop. First time I heard such. That's a theory I frown at. Likely false. |

What's different between parthenorcarpic and alpha beit Pistotita: Gynecious. One of the most affordable around. I was told one time that it comes with 10% Marketmore. If I am using gynecious, this is my favorite. I have achieved 1,300 bags on 1 acre. It is nice. But if I use my present tricks, and I have access to workers who will not stress my life, hmmmmm! Darina is very good. But if I'm experiencing too many diseases, I prefer to combine varieties like Murano and a dark green very big fruits like yours. Would intentionally make some huge just to fill bags with fewer cukes, cos if I dont, diseases will still cause high abortion rate. You may have your own method. I keep saying it, there is no "best" variety. I know farmers who don't like Murano, but can make huge harvest with Tokyo. And I know a guy who is all about Monalisa. He's just good with it. |

Pistotita: Please, just sit down at home and practise very well. I do not believe in training inside bush. I do not believe in not practising before going to farm. Do Your Home WORK well, formulate strategies that work for you. And keep improving. Be a scientist on your farm. Make me want to learn from you too sir. I believe you can do it.
For me, it's getting close to 70 tons per ha (2,000 35-kg baskets) should be the average yield of most farmers with the technologies around. While I am stretching to 120tons, I believe it is possible. Also, I am trying to see if 60 tons for Rio Grande is achievable. If yes, I am dumping all hybrids. And then, I will keep pushing it till I get to 120 tons. Might be I will have to start making my own hybrid. That is my next plan sir. Ordinary farmers who were not contended with seeds around made good varieties we are using today. Companies just bought the patent from the "exordinary" ordinarily farmers.
Best of luck sir. great vibes, you always speak out all my thought from every comment you do made and I've learnt alot from you, respect boss.

Idemujoseph: I am interested in this okro farm. How is the yield(harvest) so far? Is it hybrid you planted? How many plots? Which is more profitable between okro and maize? Good morning sir; Its hybrid, kirikou f1 from technisem. Both are profitable but you need more large space for maize. Okro is still one of easiest vegetable to cultivate, you make good cash from it during dry season if well done. |

okoroemeka: 1300 bags from 6 plots,216 bags from one plot, hmmm, this production is completely outregous, Even Thai agro can only boast of 100 bags from 1 plot,if what you said is really true then you must be an agro wizard. its realistic bro, if you can squeeze up too 3000 plant (2 cans) on plot and a plant produce 8 marketable fruits of 400 grams each. That's 3.2kg per plant making *3000= 9600kg. If a bag its 40kg that's means you get 240bags. Only experience and hardworking boss like pistotita can achieve this. |

Its was mistakenly skip in the previous, that's why it reach that stage, my client later use it for salad. Thanks. Its darina predominantly female and does it produce more male flowers? Pistotita: It is a big mistake to allow cucumber grow this big. It kills the plant. You have reduced your yield drastically.
Most monoecious will produce big fruits like this, and not just cu999. But monoecious does not give higher yield. Let's learn flowering pattern of our crops well. Gynecious if well pollinated and predominant flower will out play any monoecious anyday, anytime. And pathenocarpic will yield 10 times more than monoecious too. Even pricklings will out play most monoecious. The only advantage I see in cu999 is that it has very high reistance to many diseases. It is not the special and nicest variety around. Just ok.
Harvesting this cucumber at 1.5kg is funny. I can't eat the strong seeds inside? Lol. I don't know why anyone will allow the fruit grow this big. As soon as I see this kind of fruit big like this, I know that huge number of flowers have aborted on that farm. Any farmer who allows cucumber grow this big is careless. I am not attacking anyone but correcting the bad practices among gardeners in this forum.
You take it to market and they even reject it because it is too big. Christ! You also try to eat it, and tell me if you really can eat the seeds inside which are suppose to be more nutritious even than the flesh.
Anyday, anytime, optimum production of darina and greengo will give 3 to 5 times of this variety. This is what I have really tested. Even murano can get very big, but may not be like this. And it is bad. Try harvesting medium size cucumbers. Harvest them very fast at medium sizes, keep diseases off, return and tell me your yield.
Don't fall for pictures using buckets, pen, ruler to show cucumber size. It is a wrong approach.. Early harvest of cukes is the best. Renember, they are sweeter, more nutritious, and fresher when harvested before the fruits fully matured. The same way microgreens are more nutritious than fully grown plants. |
