preparing the mega nursery for 7000 plants in paper cups,the crops will stay 10-12 days before going to the field,many may question the need for such stress in doing a nursery,well we discovered that nematodes reduce the yield of cucumbers by 50%,so we used a super treated potting mix in the nursery and when it will be transferred to the field it will fumigate the soil very effectively it lasts 70days in soil,pls don't ask the name of the nematicide u can't find it in nigeria.we have plans of planting such every month and will increase the number when our mechanized equipment arrives,this will surely be an interesting year.

With our raised bed system we have been having 5 bags per bed.

An acre has 80 bed with our kind of measurements.

However several things need to be put into consideration
* Manure application
* Plant population at planting
* Water management
* Pest and disease control
* Staking and training
* Prunning etc

It's only when you get all this right that you can attain that average no of yield

it depends on soil,some soil are so infertile that fertilizer is a must,while some will give a good yield with only manure and foliar sprays,and also in very big farms using manure every 2 weeks is almost impractical,moreover the 1500 batch we planted without chemical fertilizer is out we have harvested twice and it is still like new..inorganic fertilizer is a double edge sword it will give u good healthy crops ,if used well but it will gradually destroy the land,if manure is used on a land it reconditions the soil and the microfauna that the soil can be used indefinitely without losing fertility. if given a choice I will take manure we don't have large lands for crop rotation in the east.and also note that chemical fertilizer do not increase yield it only makes the crop healthy what gives yield is the genetics of the seed,A GOOD YIELD STARTS FROM THE SEED!

yes u are right.we have stopped using chemical fertilizer but we apply foliar fertilizer for micro nutrients, going organic all the way.more stress but u can reuse the same soil indefinitely, we have now planted 6 times with the same soil in our sack farm,we top it with manure every 2 weeks

(1)the type we are using is 100 metres radius(300 feet),it covers 2 plots at a go,the time it will take depends on how wet you want the soil.at less 20-30 mins the ground is already wet. (2)drip tape needs elaborate set up ,overhead tank,PVC pipes and assesories,if u are planting in the deep bush that is not acceptable u need a setup that is quick and easy to install.(3)price #50,000 without stand ,3 inch's china water pump and blue flexible hose.

we put manure (pig or chicken)and turn it with the soil inside before planting.this is very important it will be the first nutrients the young roots will get.

went to the farm we are doing in partnership with eagle food processing,the farm is so big that 4 guys are working everyday just harvesting cucumbers. we had problems with one of the rainguns,problem later solved, we have plan a,b,c,d,e even to k.
