Head Coach Patrick Bassey has called 23 players to the camp of Nigeria’s U15 boys, also known as Future Eagles, ahead of this month’s FIFA U15 Youth World Cup and Festival taking place in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan.

The tournament is taking place 22nd – 31st October.

The players have been instructed to report to the NFF/FIFA Goal Project Hostel inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, 13th October 2026 with their proper football boots for artificial turf that will be used for training in Abuja and Baku, and for matches during the World Cup & Festival.

All State FAs, Clubs, academies, schools and parents/guardians whose players or children are invited have been advised to personally bring them to the camp in Abuja.

Thank you for all the comments on my last article. I read every single one and feel really touched by the plights of Nigerians.

You are angry. You are hungry. You said: "Does our own oil go through Hormuz? Why should Iran-US war affect us? What do we enjoy from government? Why can't we just refine our own crude cheap for Nigerians?"

You are right to ask. Let me answer you truthfully, not as a government defender, but as a fellow Nigerian who is also feeling this pain.

NO, OUR OIL DOES NOT GO THROUGH HORMUZ — BUT OUR PRICE DOES

This is the painful truth about how crude oil is sold in the world. Nigeria's crude does NOT pass through Strait of Hormuz to get to Dangote Refinery in Lekki. Our crude moves from Niger Delta to Lekki directly.

But the PRICE of our crude is not decided in Nigeria. It is decided in London and New York. The world uses a benchmark called Brent Crude. When there is war in the Middle East and Hormuz is threatened, Brent jumps from $65 to $105 — for EVERYONE.

And here is the wicked part: The law we passed — the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) — says even Dangote must buy Nigerian crude at international market price. No discount. NNPC cannot dash him crude for N10,000 per barrel. It must sell at full $105 price, even if it will be refined in Nigeria.

So when Hormuz shakes, our crude price automatically shakes with it. That is why a country producing 1.5 million barrels per day still pays N1,450 per litre. We produce crude, but we do not control the price.

This is not government excuse. This is how Dangote himself explained it. In 2025, 60% of his crude came from Nigeria under Naira-for-Crude, but he had to buy 40% from America and other countries because NNPC could not supply enough. Even the Nigerian crude he got, he paid full international price for it — only the payment was in Naira, not dollars. [Dangote prospectus, 2025]

WHY CAN'T GOVERNMENT JUST REFINE OUR OWN CRUDE CHEAP FOR US?" — BECAUSE GOVERNMENT REFINERY DIED

You asked a very sensible question. This is what every sensible government does.

Saudi Arabia produces crude and refines cheap for its people. Why not Nigeria?

Because for 30 years, we refused to maintain our 4 government refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna. We spent over $25 billion in Turn Around Maintenance and nothing worked. So we became the only OPEC country that produces crude and imports petrol. We were importing 100% of our fuel until 2024.

Now we have Dangote Refinery. But let's be clear: Dangote Refinery is not a government refinery. It is a private business built with $20 billion loan. Aliko Dangote must repay banks. He must make profit. Government owns only 7.2% there.

Government tried to create an emergency plan — the Naira-for-Crude deal you heard about. The plan was: FG gives Dangote up to 450,000 barrels per day, Dangote pays in Naira, and sells fuel cheap in Naira to Nigerians. Tinubu started it in October 2024.

It worked for a few months and fuel came down to N860. But it is now struggling. Dangote said he needs 13-15 cargoes per month to run at full capacity, but NNPC is only giving him 5 cargoes. So he must import the rest at $100 per barrel from America. When he imports at $100, he cannot sell at N750. He now sells in dollars again.

That is not wickedness. That is the reality of a private refinery that government does not fully control.

"WHAT DO WE ENJOY FROM GOVERNMENT? NOTHING!"

I felt this comment deep in my chest.

We are hungry. Transport is double. Food is triple. Salary is still N70,000. And you hear allocation has tripled to N3.2 Trillion FAAC every month. Where is it?

This is the truth: The benefit of subsidy removal was NEVER supposed to be cheap fuel. The benefit is that the N7.5 Trillion we were paying to 3 rich importers every year for fake subsidy is now free. That money is now shared to 36 states.

The Federal Government's share of that money is being used to pay debt, build Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, Badagry-Sokoto Highway, Student Loan, and fight insecurity. Whether it is enough — that is a debate.

But the real enjoyment should come from your STATE GOVERNMENT. Your governor now collects 3 times what he collected under Buhari. From N4.3bn average to N12.3bn per month for states like Nasarawa — a 185% increase. That money is supposed to be your emergency cushion.

Does your governor give you free school? Free hospital? Subsidized transport like Lagos did with BRT? Farm support?

If not, that is not Tinubu's failure. That is your governor stealing your emergency fund. Tinubu freed the money from cabals and gave it to your governor. Your governor is now the cabal.

"YOUR ANALYSIS WOULD HAVE MADE SENSE IF WE WERE NOT PRODUCING CRUDE?"

My brother, you are 100% right. It does NOT make sense that we are suffering in the midst of plenty. It is disheartening.

But this is the honest picture:

We produce plenty crude, but we spent 30 years refusing to build refineries that work. Now we have one private refinery that still depends on foreign crude and foreign price. And we have 36 governors who collect triple allocation but build nothing to help you survive N1,450 fuel.

So the pain you feel is real. It is not because I am defending government. It is because our system was broken long before N1,450.

What should we demand now?

Not return to subsidy — that will take us back to 3:53 AM fuel queues and smuggling to Niger Republic. Demand this:

A. Government must enforce the Domestic Crude Supply Obligation — NNPC must give Dangote his full 450k bpd, so he stops importing and price drops.

B. Government must be transparent: When Brent falls to $65, Dangote pump price must fall to N850 same week. No delay.

C. Hold your governor accountable. Ask him every month: "You collected N15bn FAAC, where is our palliative? Where is our bus? Where is our farm support?"

The N1,450 is painful. But it is not because our crude went through Hormuz. It is because we produce crude like a rich man, but we manage it like a poor man who must ask the world market how much his own property is worth.

And until we fix that — with full local supply in Naira, with more than one Dangote, with governors who work — we will always feel like strangers in our own oil-rich country.
