lovewins: I should probably have clarified I primarily meant running sports.
1. I agree government should invest in basic infrastructural development that will serve as the pedestal for discovering local talents.
2. Competitions do not necessarily have to be government initiated. I remember Milo used to solely run basketball ball events for secondary school across Nigeria. Private organisations can handle this quite frankly. I am not averse to government organising this, they just haven't shown to be good managers of programs like this.
3. 100% of our athletes currently in the US are in scholarship with no input from government. Trust me if this was a government program nepotism and quota system will destroy it. There was a scholarship program (not sports related) that the Jonathan administration was running for first class students and it was based on merit cause they had to write exams. Immediately Buhari was elected he stopped it because a section of the country wasn't properly represented as winner. We just need to develop good enough athletes, American schools are on the hunt for talents they will better their programs. BTW, Jamaica too now outsource their talents to the US now.
4. Being a past athletes doesn't necessarily translate into being a good administrator or coach. One thing with getting private sector run programmes is that they very rarely allow sentiments thrive because investors want returns on their investments. My point is government should be the catalyst for this to run. |

Many could not meet the Olympic standard but they would by 2028. Just be patient! 2028 will shock you! Are you talking about athletics alone? I am talking about sports industry generally not only athletics. Nevertheless, what they are getting is just 0.01% of the talent available. My son can run 100m but I no wan make em go because he prefers football. However, if it's made compulsory in secondary schools and he eventually participates in a state competition, peradventure he can be scouted. I am not saying he's the best but I am saying if there's a process, perhaps it should be more than 1,000 which is too small for a country with 250m population. |

Once u think someone is not on your “side” you want to go against every thing they say. That’s childish. I understand but either of you are objective. Just consider both are there own perception. lovewins: No one is absolving government of responsibility, if you read my post carefully I said as much. The crux of mt my argument is even with good administrators and policy backup there's little we can achieve because Nigeria sadly isn't rich enough to fund sports. It is why my advocacy is for government to completely handsoff sports in Nigeria.
So my argument isn't for more government policies but just one policy, which is government divesting from sports.
Also, the private sector in Nigeria is well equipped to fund sporting events in Nigeria. The only reason they won't right now is because there's little or no return on investments when they partner with any sporting brand. Government divesting totally from telecommunications and entertainment is what led to the boost we've seen in both industries. BB naija which is just a program here more sponsorship yearly than Nigeria's biggest sporting brand the Super Eagles and all their money comes from the private sector. Not saying you are wrong but I will say government needs to play part in it. How? 1. Provision of facilities from primary to university 2. Initiate competitions for primary and secondary schools from local government, state and federal level. Including university. 3. Give incentives to prospectus winners. Such as scholarship and full sponsorship for competitions abroad. 4. Develop leagues for various sports and get it sponsored by private sectors. Etc. 5. Employe former gold medalist as national coaches. For example, our wrestling improved because of Daniel Igali. As at now, all these are dead like dodo. We use to have them before but politicians are fiction on oil money because they don't understand Sports can used to create employment and wealth. |

No consultation, no media interaction, not even to sit in the seat of power for 24hrs to have a feel of what the seat is all about. This is why he has agberos everywhere because he too behaves like one. Why an acclaimed educated man failed to first understand the duties of a president by at least going into his new office before delving into such a sensitive issue like fuel subsidy still drives me insane. Triton1996: Minister of Interior, Bunmi Ojo, Embroiled in New Passport Fast-Tracking Controversy in London
In a development that has raised several eyebrows, Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Bunmi Ojo, is once again in the spotlight following allegations of unethical practices concerning passport procurement. Reports have surfaced suggesting that Ojo has been involved in a scheme in London, wherein expedited passport processing is offered at the hefty price of $300.
Why many are not pleased with him is because the passport acquisition is becoming difficult these days which takes months unlike what he promised after he assumed office. When he came on bored as a minister, he outlawed the previous process and made the Nigeria House clear the backlog of passports that many hailed.
Unfortunately, with the new introduction of the fast track payment, the process has gone back to being cumbersome which makes many feel it’s a deliberate act to force people to pay the three hundred dollars. This is not the first time Minister Ojo has faced scrutiny. His tenure has been marred by previous scandals that critically questioned his adherence to ethical standards. The latest allegations have reignited concerns about corruption within vital government services, prompting a wave of reactions both domestically and internationally.
According to sources close to the matter, individuals needing urgent passport services in London have been coerced into paying the fee, which significantly surpasses the official rates. This practice not only undermines the integrity of public service but also exacerbates the financial strain on citizens who may already be in distressing situations.
Several advocacy groups have voiced their discontent with the ongoing situation. Transparency Nigeria issued a statement demanding a thorough investigation into the claims. "Such allegations, if proven, speak volumes about the decay in our public institutions," the statement read. "It is imperative for the government to act swiftly and decisively to restore faith in our systems."
On social media, the public's reactions have been swift and unforgiving. Hashtags such as #OjoScandal and #CorruptionWatch have been trending, with citizens expressing their frustration over the recurrent theme of corruption in key governmental positions. "This isn't just about one man; it's about the systemic issues that allow such practices to thrive," commented one user.
Ojo's office has yet to release an official response. However, insiders suggest that an internal review is imminent. The Nigerian government, already grappling with multiple fronts of public unrest, cannot afford to turn a blind eye to such grave allegations.
International ramifications might also ensue. If substantiated, this scandal could strain diplomatic relations, particularly within the context of immigrant communities relying on streamlined consular services.
This unfolding story serves as a poignant reminder of the critical need for transparency and accountability in public service. It also underscores the importance of citizens' vigilance in holding their leaders to the highest ethical standards. As the my investigation progresses, all eyes remain fixed on the authorities to see how they navigate and resolve this contentious issue. Nonsense write up. The albatross are the immigration personnel sabotaging the process. |

They kidnapped a full peace mass passengers just 2 weeks ago. The soldiers couldn't enforce anything.
HE President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR should as a matter of urgency change the security architecture if Nigeria with immediate effect as.
2nd term tenure is not guaranteed if insecurity doesn't improve especially in his own region.
My 3 advice to improve security are:
1. Provide means of identification for citizenship. That NIN number shall not be used to define anyone as a citizen of Nigeria because many foreigners have that card. Buhari wanted to used that to Nationalize some people.
2. Build border lines. Due to our porous borders, it is neccessary to build a wired fence and trench along the borders. We can use both the army engineers and corpers to achieve these.
3. Decentralization of police. We need local government police, state police and federal police. In addition, forests rangers to protect our forests from intruders. |
