pazienza: Ironsi abolished democracy! The military worked by Central command so Ironsi needed to unify the civil service to retain Central control. But he never dissolved the regions. He had military governors for the four regions under him!
Ghana had many military regimes, non tampered the regional structure, they only centralised the command as obtainable in all military autocratic regimens. If Gowon under wicked Awolowo and Yoruba counsel didn't dissolve the regions, Nigeria would have returned to democracy in 1979 with the regions still intact as happened in Ghana. But Awolowo/Gowon ie Northern/Yorubas alliance, took that away from the country by dissolving the regions and creating dysfunctional entities called states out of desperation to stop the East from secession. And today these lots want to lay the blame for their senseless wicked ill thought actions on Ironsi and Ndiigbo.
Bunch of jokers.
Ironsi destroyed our system of government by abolishing autonomy. All that was left of the region was authoritarian system of governance. Not different from Niger or Borno that are almost the size of Eastern region without autonomy. Gbam.
You can try gard to change history but you can't rewrite what has been written.
Ngozi123: Yet every region still had control of their resources. What government put an end to that? Why don't they get as much blame as Ironsi? The same Ironsi, who died 2 weeks after this Decree was made.
How do all regions have control over their resources when autonomy has been removed and Ironsi ruled by fiat?
First they said it was Ironsi that abolished the Region. When they were shown Gowons Decree 14 that abolished the 4 Region's Nigeria had, they switched and saud Ironsi brought unitary rule. Then they were shown Gowons Decree 15 that abolished resource control
Now they have switched and said that Ironsi took the autonomy of the Regions when they know quite well that there is nothing liked autonomy in military rule
Goalposts shifters everywhere
Now that you have come to term with the fact that Ironsi abolished autonomy, there is no more argument because autonomy comes with self goverance and resource control but since it was abolished, all benefits that comes with it was also gone. Gbam.
gidgiddy: Decree 34 was nothing but a civil service decree. Ironsi did not touch sections 141 and 164 of the constitution, which was resource control and revenue sharing formula agreed at independence. Gowon removed both with Decree 15
gidgiddy: You're the one that is blind. In military rule, everyone is subject to the military authority. Military rule is not democracy. What Ironsi introduced is military rule.
Did Ironsi abolish the 4 Regions Nigeria had? No
Did he stop the 4 Regions from controlling their resources? No
But Gowon abolished all 4 Region and stopped resource control with Decree 14 and 15
Ironsi abolished autonomy of the region. That's the point.
You seems to be uneducated about constitution and governance.
What Ironsi did was transit from 1963 constitution that empowered all regions and gives autonomy without interference or recourse from the central government to military degree that removed autonomy and forced the appointed military governors to the control of central military government.
gidgiddy: Yes he introduced military rule and siezed power, where did he abolish the 4 Regions Nigeria had?
Are you blind or what? All regions shall be subject to... What does that mean?
for the purposes of administration each group of provinces shall, subject to the authority of the Head of the National Military Government, be under the general direction and control of a Military Governor appointed by the Head of the National Military Government
Napoleon55: I have not seen any exceptional short players that Nigerian coaches has failed to select in the past. However,a Nigerian team team should not be made up of more than 30% of short players, especially in defense and midfield, otherwise we would be bullied by other African teams.
Most of Argentine greatest players are short though.
You haven't seen in the national team but I have seen in academies.
I am talking about Nigerian coaches not using potent striker that are short not all positions.
If you are a good striker but short, Nigerian coach will prefer a goliath that doesn't know where post dey because em believe height and body be striker.
No wonder sey can't make it outside the shorea of Nigeria.
Napoleon55: Messi and Aguero are exceptional players, both taller than Chukwueze and Moses Simon who is just an average player, yet selected by Nigerian coaches.
But me as Nigerian coach, I won't be looking out for short players unless they are above average or exceptional, because we are not known as people of short races, unlike countries like China,or in Argentina which u would not be taken serious if u are tall
Who told you Argentines are short?
Nigerian coaches mind set needs to be changed. Such conception deprives exceptional players from getting a look.
Joebie: I keep forgeting Awoniyi. We have strikers to stand in for Osimhen. And they will deliver given the time Onuachu got. why the delay in calling up Adebayo?
bentenny: Since we are doing comparison, can we start with the value of both country's currency? Are you not aware that we haphazardly copied the structure of America? We have gone past regionalism! What we need is the full implementation of fiscal federalism! Every state should have their own police! Every state should be given full autonomy to enjoy the benefits of their natural resources! Every viable state should have their own access to seaports!
We copied but it has failed us woefully. Prior to copycat we were doing well when we practiced regionalism.
The value of the currency was far better when we practiced regionalism. The reason we need a change back to what has worked for us.
So, it's common sense we have to move away from this shocking federalism that was forceful forced on us by the military government.
bentenny: These people are still wallowing in the past! We have gone past regionalism! States should be given full autonomy according to true federalism to stand on its own and use it's own resources for the benefit of its domain or citizens while giving an agreeable percentage to the centre every month! This is what the Americans that we copied federalism are currently doing! What we are currently practicing is feeding bottle federalism making state governors lazy and LGA chairmen docile! The Senate must start with the decentralization of policing, resource control and ports! Let every state fend for themselves and watch how development will reach everyone!
GUNITGuy: That's another disaster waiting to happen ....Southsouth people would start boundary dispute among themselves...Another version of Nigeria go start from Niger delta ....Ijaws and kalabari be ones majority while the likes of Ogoni, Isoko, Auchi gets to become minority
It's written any ethnic group can decide to form their own district. Gbam.
