Because you can prevent malaria in the course of your day to day activities, you can’t prevent Covid 19 if everyone is moving freely. Malaria has a cure, this doesn’t.

I really don’t care anymore. If we want lockdown fine, if you want to open up fine. Like I said our population could do with pruning anyway.

At the end of the day, it will end one day it will end. I will remain on lockdown to give myself the best chance to be alive when it is all over!

People are free to do as they wish.
Be ready to stay home for like 5 years. I will send post cards

Ok...here is some stats from New York...

6839 people died in New York by April 14

137 had no underlying conditions.

A minority, but proof that 'healthy people die'.

People will die anyway. The flu has killed 62000 hunger kills many more. You can't cos of that ask people to stay home, you may reduce corona deaths or even suspend for a while ( as people with underlying illness will die of something else if not well taken care of) but hunger will kill not just the vulnerable but healthy too

Lol. Where did u get your stats from? Also note hunger kills 25000 everyday and the world has not ever stopped to care that much. So why is corona given an elevated status?

While your chances of passing on from covid 19 go up if you are 'old and vulnerable', that does not mean that someone younger could not die...and it has happened.
Vulnerable means people with underlying illness. They could be young or old. It's not 100 percent that these set of people will die, they just have a higher risk of dying

Why lock down over a virus that has a morality rate lower than malaria?

Cotton:
You've said it all. We can be here talking rubbish about the economy but when things overcome us we will be begging for lockdown. Do you worry about the economy in the middle of a war? Yes people will suffer and die but more people will die if we don't get this under control. If ever we lose control we will need intervention from outsiders and that would come at a significant cost. Is it the outsiders that would not enforce a lockdown before they get control? Even if a vaccine is discovered, do you know how long it would take to vaccinate all Nigerians? Before that vaccine can be successfully administered there would be a lockdown. It is operational protocol.
So you rather healthy people die cos of lock down from a virus that kills only the old and vulnerable.

Are you not a Nigerian? How efficient is our law enforcement agencies? You expect them to be in every hook and corners in Nigeria. It is very very impossible.
You cannot kill the economy cos of a virus with 1 percent mortality rate. The other option is to lock down vulnerable ppl (who will die from the virus) and ask the rest to go about with masks gloves and provide hand cleansing kits all over.
The virus will be around for a long time. So Nigeria has to adapt.

When everyone knows a friend, colleague, neighbor or family member that died, they want enforce anything. They will beg for a lockdown or social distancing.

I wonder who begged Italy and Spain in the end
Both are opening already

When the rate (not necessarily number) of infection start to flatten or bend downwards...

South Korea had a partial lockdown (it closed down high-risk facilities and banned religious, spirts and entertainment events), in addition to social distancing. Even then, there’s been a recent uptick in new cases in Korea, as well as so-called “re-infections”. Meanwhile, Ghana only literally just lifted its lockdown, and only the passage of time will determine if there’s a new spike of infections or if it’s a good decision.

Suffice it to note that Sweden suffered almost TEN TIMES AS MUCH Covid deaths than its locked-down neighboring countries.
>
So you prefer chaos over facing a challenge? Am sure there is an African country without a single case cos they have not bothered to test and am sure you have not heard that everyone there died.
Just wait till the pandemic is over and you will hear revelations and how people over hyped the virus just as they did during the y2k bug period
IslamRe: Ramadan: A Month Of Mercy And Mindfulness Of Allah by fortran12: 3:23pm On Apr 24, 2020
k4kenny:
Ramadan: A month of Mercy and Mindfulness of Allah.

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ
All praises due to Allah for His mercies and bounties. All praises due to Him, who granted us life when we were lifeless and would grant us death and then resurrect us on a Day with the equivalence of 50000 years(Q70.4)

It's another month of Mercy, a month where the gates if jahannam are shut and the gates of Jannah are opened. An opportunity to start afresh and renew our commitment with our Rabb. In spite of the current global pandemic and financial crisis, we're indeed grateful to witness yet another Ramadan. May it not be our last. Ameen.

What's so special about the Month of Ramadan?
Allah revealed the specific reason why this month stands above others in Q2.185:

This is the Month of the Qur'an, the ultimate guidance to Mankind. The unadulterated revelation of Allah, revealed to the best of all mankind through the best of Angels in the best Month of the year.

Why do we fast?
A lot of theories have come up regarding our reasons for fasting. Some say it's an avenue to feel the pangs of hunger and have some feelings of what the impoverished go through. Some say it's an avenue to reduce our meals and therefore shed some weight and be healthier. While these reasons are okay, Allah 'azza wa ja'al reveals the actual reason in Q2.183: .

The reason stated here is that we may be 'tattaqoon' i.e. pious or mindful of Allah. How is this so? Allah is telling us to abstain for a whole month from that which is halal and tayyib (good). Think about it, we see plates of delicious, nutritious meals and drinks but we stay away, even if no one is around. This is mindfulness of Allah. We know he is Al Baseer, and Ar-Rakib so abstain from the Halal food and halal relationship with our spouses just for the fear of Allah. Allah is showing us in essence that if we can abstain from the Halal for a full month, then we should have no problems abstaining from the haram all year round. Yes it's achievable if you have taqwa. The purpose of fasting this month is to build our taqwa and grow our imaan. May Allah accept our acts of ibaadah this month and beyond.

Remember, this is the month of Mercy, as we fast with our bodies we purify our souls. We should seek 'afuw and istighfar as much as possible this month. Now is the time to optimise our good deeds acts of ibaadah. Remember each good deed earned this month is multiplied, so grab the opportunity.

May Allah grant us ease this month and see us through to the end and keep providing for us.

مرحب يا رمضان

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركة

PoliticsRe: COVID-19: Can Africa Afford Lockdowns? - Charles Soludo by fortran12: 10:09am On Apr 24, 2020
abdullkabar:
lockdown is a necessary/compulsory measure. Isolation/quarantine centers can be sorted out, other preventive measures can be discussed while limiting the spread by locking down. The number of infected people would have sky rocketed without lockdown.
I think the compulsion of nose mask, eye glasses(fr the eyes), washing of hands, and other measures will limit transmission of the virus, and also infection after the lockdown is lifted.
The lockdown is a short term preventive measure on its own(you can't lock people down for long), it was to strategies the next step
They have done lock down for 4 weeks lets see their next step,

Again, the point of the lockdown is NOT eradication but reduction...

EVERY positive case, whether symptomatic, mild, moderate or none at all, still has to be isolated...
So, even if the extreme cases are less than 10%, healthcare facilities will be overstretched by sheer numbers.
>
So at what point should the lock down be lifted when you know that locking down has economic impact, why should the whole nation suffer because of a few people. There are better ways to treat this, there are some countries that managed the situation without a lock down, Sweden and S. Korea, even the Ghana lock down was 3 weeks and the country used the period to study and analyse the best way to tackle the virus. Nigeria's lock down has no strategy

Neither are the mutually-exclusive...
Accordingly, no reason we cannot use BOTH.

Neither a lockdown nor social distancing can be implemented 100%...
Nonetheless, the less people you have roaming around, the less the chances for transmissions even if distancing is not 100%.
>
If you say lock down, people stay in their houses, how are you sure they are distancing themselves?
What if people are allowed to have the virus and develop immunity as some people have already, then use their anti bodies to create a vaccine

The point is that its a communicable disease, you cant erradicate until a cure is found, and most people who have it will get well. A lot of people get well without medication

You guys are really talking out of sense, you think government is hyping result to keep u at home and damage the economy?
Even if they want to steal, keeping people unproductive has reduced what they will steal.

Take your calculator, do ur statistic and compare other countries to Nigeria and see that the result is infact under reported due to lack of massive testing kits.
Just know that if government test 1 million people today in high risk area, expect result of tens of thsusand infected.

The only good news is that only 20% of infected person will show symptoms while only few of the people with symptoms will die.

Always use your head even if it makes u happy to blame government.
Hyping does not mean inflating the numbers, its making corona bigger than it is, its mortality rate is less than 1 percent, most people who have it will recover.

To be honest with u Nigeria is poor. The government have sucked the economy dry that is y u see alot of ppl donating money and food stuff. For me I think if ppl keep donating what the have to support the government it will go a long way. I feel it's the right approach. Just take a look at United States the number of ppl dying there. Trust me this virus can spread like a wild fire and when it does my dear only God will be our saviour. So lets not give up on this fight.
Nigeria is really poor. Check the numbers, also the virus has a low death rate. Most people get better. Hope u know there is no cure for the flu, it kills thousands every year and the sky has not fallen yet. Don't let the media hype the virus for u. Research and check the numbers yourself.

People clamoring for the FG to lift the lockdown. I know its terrible but trust me, if this lockdown is lifted, without a vaccine to this virus, I assure you that this will lead to the apocalypse.

There will be reinfection, people will die, plenty people will die.

A vaccine is the only way out. This virus is terrible.

For the students, forget school for now. Learn something new online.
What about countries that flattened the curve without lock down. Why not learn from them. Best to learn n salvage the economy. Corona virus has less fatality rate than malaria. You're more likely to be hit by a car than die of corona.

These are experts with in-depth knowledge of what we're dealing with giving us information but no. We will rather play politics with it.

Government should just find a way to send palliative measure to cushion the effects of the lock down cause we don't have the capacity to handle mass infections. Kano with less than two hundred cases just ran out of test kits. Imagine what it will be like if becomes a mass problem
Where will Nigeria get the money from. Oil sales are poor and the economic power houses shutdown
